Monster Hunting (A-rank Midgame Grind) Empty Monster Hunting (A-rank Midgame Grind)

Post by Ling 11th August 2020, 9:58 pm

When the locals of Shadow Island sent out a request for the mages of Fiore to participate in something like population control of the island's wildlife, they were never expecting it to reach so many ears. Whether it was because of the generous jewel reward they offered or the rumors that the monsters in the area sometimes horded powerful equipment for one to pillage if they so chose, they never anticipated so many mages to show up.

Ling was a sorcerer from Silver Wolf, almost comically shy, soft-spoken, and easily flustered. He had especially pretty and feminine features despite being a man, and one of his greatest quirks was his stutter and the long, white cloak he always wore and could never seem to do without. It seemed unlike a man of his bashfulness to answer to a call that invited so many people, but his desire to help others and make the most out of his strength outweighed his inability to interact with people, if only by a little. But he couldn't say he wasn't a little excited. After all, he was able to come to Shadow Island for the first time and saw the beautiful stretch of the sea as he crossed it.

Monster Hunting (A-rank Midgame Grind) DMOFRSB

Shadow Island was a strange place, unlike anything the girl had ever seen before, not in Bellum and not in Fiore, at least. The island itself was, well, excotic to say the least. The sky was dark, clouded in an ominous and overarching twilight that held this little spot of land, surrounded by a similarly dark ocean, in its grasp. It was quite fascinating to the young girl, Taylor peering over the railing of the small boat that was about to dock at the small, sorry pier that extended somewhat into the cold waves. The day was relatively frigid, and the girl imagined that it would be possible for snow to fall. The girl figured that the cold climate would have to be attributed to the absence of the sun, of course, though she wouldn't let herself be bothered by this. Still, relatively speaking, she had not been out of Bellum and away from her home and family for long. Now a guild mage of Fairy Tail, the girl was determined to make good use of her newly found freedom, and a thing that especially excited her was that this was an official job. It was her opportunity to prove her skill and power as a mage, and, of course, to explore the world and learn.

So eager had she been to accept the job that she had come here without much of a basic understanding of what exactly it was what she was supposed to do here. Well, she knew that they were supposed to hunt some of the beasts that lurked here on Shadow Island, which allegedly were supposed to be highly territorial and gave the locals a lot of trouble. What kind of beast, animal, monster, creature it would be that she was supposed to hunt? Well ... that was an entirely different matter. Hopeful and determined, but a little confused, the girl stepped of the boat, handing the ferryman his Jewels before turning towards the coast. It seemed that another individual to accept the contract was already present, the blonde girl not hesitating to raise her hand in greeting before getting closer to what appeared like a young, blonde man, a long white cape wrapped around his form, a wide and friendly smile on her face. "Hey!", her greeting was short, to the point, but also noticably excited. "Are you here for the job as well? Oh! Are you a mage? I'm Taylor, what's your name? Wait- I have a question!". As usual, the girl could barely hold back all of the questions that danced through her mind, blatantly spewing out anything that happened to cross her thoughts in an unfiltered cascade of words. "Do you have any idea what we're supposed to hunt here?".

Post by Lehanna Seraph 13th August 2020, 11:14 am

The travel to and from the guild and her schooling had been very taxing. At first, it wasn’t much of a big deal that she spend some time there, like anyone else, she had run low on funds and began to need adjustments to her stay of place in order to keep up with everything. At first it wasn’t so bad, however the more this happened, the more the fire mage had begun to feel this was impacting her negatively. Her grades started to begin slipping and immediately she knew doing so was not an option to continue doing at all. Something had to change that. It hadn’t been until she got back to her guild over the weekend that she’d noticed there was a request called for. Having not really done much, there was a feeling for the brunette to put herself out there as a potential person to join this request. Who knows, maybe she’ll grow a little more than she had. After all, she’d been known to be someone who could bury herself in her books for the rest of her life if she wanted to. But that wasn’t the purpose of her learning magic, just to sit on it without ever using.

Of course, the turn of events in her accepting this crusade of hunting didn’t begin very well at all. Her task was to join up with another member of the guild in order to go with them. Unsure honestly of whom that was, just meeting by the nearest port to join them was the plan.... only she didn’t make it. Why? Well, everyone has one of those days. Taken the trip up to the guild the day prior wiped her out. That in turn led her to oversleep drastically. And in turn led to a slight feeling of horrible flashbacks of past foster homes that she’d done so in. Each one varying in how they dealt with that sort of accident, but none of them ever good. Pushing her time back even more, she didn’t think it was any sort of good for her or anyone else that she do this. It put a huge damper on her mood, more over beginning to motivate her to want to hit something that hate herself. Perhaps a good sign she really did choose to hunt down monsters rather than people. Less moral repercussions.

The boat was a good way to relieve stress. Just some time to low off steam, work on a bit of side work of her own accord was just what the young girl needed. Helping to pass the time until she arrived onto Shadow island, Lehanna grabbed a small bag, a sketch book, and a couple other tools to help her. The way the island looked was extremely unique, almost unnatural. Wanting to make notes and research, she prepared herself for nearly anything. Just so long as the sword on her back didn’t cut her bag strap either, at least. Just off from the dockside had been two others that seemed to be a little lost for wears, so to speak. The blonde.. male(?) with a long, white cape was making what she could only perceive as small talk with a peppy lighter blonde. It went without saying that she was probably able to fit just right with them as a growing crowd of strangers. ”Excuse me, are you both here for a hunting job?” She asked, attempting a bit of formality without wanting to waste time should her actual party have run off without her.

If the wind in my sail on the sea stays behind me
One day I'll know, if I go there's just no telling how far I'll go
    Pimwadee Chakri

A heavy uncertainty lingered over the Lhukian woman's heart, on one hand, she wanted to help people. The knowledge that the people of Shadow Island needed such aid had pulled at the woman's heartstrings. But the possibility of culling the wildlife was something that strained her she wasn't even sure she should be going. But also she found that if she didn't go, would be equally detrimental. Perhaps choosing to go and see things for herself would help ease the discomfort she felt over the matter. She understood the circle of life and the need to protect one's species from the overbearing dangers of another. But this would undoubtedly need to be something she should see for herself.

It was nice to travel by boat again, travelling was always an enjoyable pastime for the woman. And the prospect of seeing a new place with new traditions and cultures always stimulated her love of exploration. If only it didn't come with such a worrisome purpose. As the ship she sailed on pulled into the docks she would stride off the boat, due to the nature of the event she wasn't in her usual woolly attire. The heavy jumpers and thick tights she often sported around the Silver Wolf guild hall traded for her Lhukian clothes. A thin white top and skirt, accessorized with gold pieces made from the women of her homeland. The convenience of mobility and lightness a perk, not to mention it took her back to her roots. She would feel that in order to make the right decision today she would need to feel close to her people and think as they would expect her too. In addition to her Lhukian outfits, just in case she had brought some combat-related items. Strapped her back was her bow and at her hip a glass jar that glowed with mystical green energy.

As she stepped off the boat she would turn her body, left and right, trying to see if she would spot anyone familiar. And whilst she hadn't expected that she would, her eyes would land on a family figure. Her eyes lit up at the sight of him, and her mood was fractionally lifted. Her feet would be to pound against the ground as she immediately made her way over to him, her arm waving vigorously over her head. "LING KAAAAH!" She called to him excitedly. She would stop running a few metres short from him, realising he wasn't alone. There was also a beautiful blonde woman talking to him, as well as young teenager with mocha brown hair. Pimwadee would bring her hands together, palms pressed she would bow in greeting to them both. "Hello I am Pimwadee. I am from Silver Wolf, nice to meet you." She greeted to the girls, before turning her gaze to Ling. "I am so glad to see you Ling, now I don't have to do this alone." She told him wearing an earnest smile as she did so.

I have died everyday waiting for you, Darling don't be afraid
I have loved you for a thousand years, I'll love you for a thousand more
    Nessa Cordelia Lux

When Nessa had gotten the notice of the incident occurring on Shadow Island, she had volunteered herself immediately for the task. This wasn't the first time the woman had encountered problems with this land, recalling the time she had come here with Johann to deal with the Clockwork monsters. So to know that this place and its people were once again in turmoil, she felt obligated to provide aid. Unable to just sit back and let the trouble digress, she was a Wizard Saint after all.

She hadn't needed to take a boat, the fact that she had been here before meant she was able to open a portal here straight from Valhalla. On the docks, a white pool of energy would appear, from which the woman would step out of. Not alone either in toe with her was two Valkyries. The first Valkyrie, Tiphanae was a beautiful slender individual with long fair hair. Her features were youthful and delicate, which was a wild contrast to the form-fitting armour she sported and the longsword at her hip. Her stature made only more impressive by the glorious white wings that protruding from her back. Then there was, Elgorea, who looked less like a Valkyrie and more like a demon. With her bat-like wings, flaming red hair and the giant claw in place of her left arm.

"This is Shadow Island?" Elgorea would ask anxiously, looking up at the sky, "Seems fitting I guess." She added, Tiphanae nodded.     "It certainly is. How would you like us to proceed Nessa Lux?" She would ask. Nessa would close the portal behind them, taking a moment to ponder this. "Nothing yet, first we need to figure out where the rest of the hunting party are, and then we can set off. Just stay close in the meantime." She told the Valkyries, both of whom nodded in understanding. The group of women would begin to wander the dock, trying to find someone to talk to about the mission. "I think... the humans are staring at my arm." Elgorea remarked nervously, trying to use her other arm to hide the demon claw. Nessa chuckled, shaking her head; "Don't worry Elgorea. I think you underestimate the uniqueness of the people who come through this place, I'm sure they've seen all sorts. And they're less likely to attack you for it than they might have been all those years ago." She told her reassuringly knowing full well that the shy little red-head Valkyrie hadn't endured the best experience with humanity in the past. How easily she was mistaken for a hellion had led to some rather violent experiences for her and as a result, she was jittery and anxious whenever it came to visiting the human world. But Nessa was sure this little job would be good for the Valkyrie, with Nessa and Tiphanae by her side. It was sure to be a breeze and would hopefully ease her uncertainties.

Clementine was a bit skeptical at first. The job listing she had found posted almost everywhere she went had mentioned hunting down hostile wild creatures on a spooky, shadowy island. It sounded like something out of a fairy tale. There were no details included about what exactly these beasts were. The only description was that they were feral and dangerous, and warned anyone who accepted the job to come prepared.

Being a city girl, Clem had never gone to rural places like Shadow Island and had only encountered a few wild and magical creatures. Hell, this was her first time on a boat. She had no clue what to expect. On the journey, it seemed that there were quite a few other mages pursuing the bountiful reward the citizens of the island had offered. The painter mostly kept to herself over the hours on the sea, partially because she was cautious of other mages, and partially because she felt a little seasick. The rocking of the vessel was uncomfortable, unfamiliar, and it made her stomach turn. Thus, she hid herself away belowdecks, tipping her hat down over her eyes and letting her mind wander.

The time seemed to drag on, but before she knew it, the captain had called out their approach to the harbor of Shadow Island. Clem rose to her feet, swaying a bit with the boat, but eventually making her way to the surface. The sky was incredibly dark as if it were evening, but it was still daylight hours. A chilly sea breeze rustled Clem’s dark auburn hair. She shivered a bit, pulling her jacket tighter, then decided to zip it up. Who knew if the other people here would find issue with her guild mark. It was just safer to cover it up.

Peering around the docks as she stepped off the boat, Clem noticed a group of people closer to the land. There was a blonde man in a long white cloak, three women, and a teen girl. There also seemed to be some mystical women accompanying the one with white hair. Was this the group of other mages here to fight monsters as well? As she got closer, she overheard the brunette teen asking the same thing she was wondering.

“That’s what I’m here for,” Clem answered as she came to a stop near the group, but not too close. The seasickness had made her a bit irritated, and though it was fading with the contact to solid ground, the grumpiness remained. Not to mention that she didn’t exactly dress for chilly weather.

“Where we gotta go to find these things?” she asked, not aimed at anyone in particular.

Dagda rested his elbows on the edge of the ship’s railing, staring out to sea with a slight smile on his face. The chilly ocean breeze bit at his skin and tossed his hair, but the titan was unbothered. He’d eagerly accepted a job to hunt down some monsters threatening a place called Shadow Island. Throughout his life, the Marmor had been an excellent hunter. He’d wrangled untamed hexagoats, fought bears fist to fur, and killed more elk than he could count. This job was right up his alley. Plus, he was always more than willing to help out people. Living in fear of wild creatures constantly was no way to live at all.

As the ship approached Shadow Island, the sky began to darken as if a storm was brewing. However, there was no thunder and no rain. It was just simply dark. This environment was peculiar, and Dagda was eager to see what kind of creatures occupied this land. It was not that he was jumping at the chance of killing things. The titan didn’t kill in cold blood, but in a manner that showed respect for the life and body of the creature. That was, unless the creature was unnatural or evil in nature. The titan had less of an issue killing things that were not meant to exist or that were causing irreparable harm with magic.

Upon the boat reaching the docks, the passengers were allowed to depart. A few other boats had seemed to have arrived only shortly before. Dagda saw other people exiting the boats and congregating on the docks. These must be the others who had accepted the job. It was no surprise that there would be a group coming together. The reward listed was quite hefty.

The titan made his way towards the group, anticipation building. Dreary weather had no effect on his optimism. Not only would he be meeting new people, but they would be working together to help the people of Shadow Island. It would be a great day by Dagda’s standards.

“Hey, I’m Dagda! I’m guessing you all are here for the same reason I am,” the giant greeted as he stepped into the group. As usual, he towered over the majority of them. He made a conscious effort to look unthreatening as possible, offering a smile and a wave.

music and sound goes hand in hand,
They're loud and beautiful, just like me.
beware, beware, the music man likes to play

Population control on wildlife? That didn’t seem too interesting at first for the green haired musician, if he were to be honest, but then a thought came to mind. The locals were also wildlife. Using his handy dandy ring, he was able to change his appearance to that of a tall man with short brown hair and light chocolate eyes. Upon his lightly tanned left cheek was a bright green bee over an equally bright (but of a different shade) green asterisk. He wore a black tank top with a green stripe through the center of it, a pair of black skinny jeans being held up by a black belt with green studs on them, and a pair of black combat boots. He was here for some fun.

As soon as the boat had docked at Shadow Island, he casually strode off and glanced around at the people gathering. He had noticed someone nearby, and raised an eyebrow slightly. Should he go over there and converse with the female? He was debating it, but he glanced away after hearing a noise and tilted his head in that direction. It was a strange sound coming from the forest. He had fairly recently come across a lacrima that was that of a dragon. He imbued it with himself after hearing sweet whispers from it and letting the powers of it consume him. It wasn’t hard to find out that he had made himself a sound dragon slayer and added it ever so graciously to his repertoire of music, making his voice even louder and sweeter sounding than before. He begun following the sounds and walking right towards the forest, peering in quietly.

A strange humming noise, that sounded like it was trying to put him to sleep, made him furrow his eyebrows. No one was going to put him to sleep. He clears his throat and ever so quietly whispers ‘boom’. Suddenly, a pulse of magical energy rushes forward in front of him and through the forest, shaking the flora in front of him. A squeal had temporarily come from within the forest and stopped a moment after, the sound now gone. He wanted to know what in the hell that was anymore. Without a second thought, he jumped into the forest and started charging after where that squealing had come from. Though, as soon as he got in the forest, he started to hear voices. He wasn’t stopping for these voices. He couldn’t. He needed to find the source of the noise.

“It’s him, the one who lost his wife.”

“Shame. She was a pretty one.”

“Now look at him, whoring himself around like he’s nothing. She’d be ashamed.”

“And now he really doesn’t have a family again!”

“He deserves to be alone without one anyways.”

    “He is absolutely TrAsH~!”

The voices were cackling at the man as he stopped dead in his tracks. They were talking about him. His currently brown eyes glared around the forest. The noise was trying to start up again, and he whispered boom once again, but this time the noise didn’t stop. He had missed, and the noise was behind him instead now. Of course… and the stabs at his heart were going deeper and deeper. He missed her.

Monster hunting was among Juliet's least favored past times. Objectively, it protected innocent citizens from harm, at the expense of dark creatures' existences. However, as an avid animal lover and conservationist, she could not help but compare magical beasts of all shapes, sizes, and temperaments, to each other. In her mind there was no doubt that some essences and souls had a tinge of darkness that could not be denied. Born evil, they were only corrupt at heart. But she still had sympathy for them. That was why today was going to be a bit rough for the young mage. Although she was accustomed to following orders and taking on difficult jobs, whether it be physically, mentally, or emotionally, she did not have to enjoy it all the time. While rising to the occasion was something Juliet strove for... to the blonde, jailing a politician who had laundered funds meant for public buildings was quite different than cleansing an island of undesirable wildlife.

Having teleported to the location, Juliet avoided the nastiness that came with passage by sea. Although voyage through the water was the most common form of travel, she had always found it to be unpleasant and nauseating, unless the accommodations were... expensive, to say the least. (Stabilized with enchanting magic reserved for only the more elite passenger liners.) Perhaps it was her noble upbringing rearing its head or more likely, she was just easily affected by motion sickness. Regardless, the mage had arrived on the isle by way of crest fueled instantaneous travel. Now, standing in the harbor, she glanced around herself, searching for fellow mages. Despite accepting this job, it had been more of a vague request, sent out widely to many guilds and independent associations, posted in various places in order to ensure maximum exposure, no doubt. This having been the case, she needed to figure out exactly what they would be hunting. It would assuage her conscience's concerns about the welfare and truly "dangerous" or "evil" state of the creatures they would be killing or imprisoning.

Monster Hunting (A-rank Midgame Grind) Empty Re: Monster Hunting (A-rank Midgame Grind)

Post by Louie 18th August 2020, 10:12 am

Despite being the pompous little rich kid from Napedia, Louie's version of fun didn't look like formal dinner parties and golfing with middle-aged men. Despite what others might coin as a terrible personality, he was surprisingly well-rounded when it came to things he enjoyed doing. He liked driving fast cars, shopping, eating good food, travel, low-budget romcoms, and his ultimate desire of being the best at anything and everything. However, because of his drive for victory, he was attracted to things where competition could exist. He enjoyed doing things he would normally never do if not for the possibility of being the best at doing it. Like today, even though he normally didn't go out of his way to do dirty work saved for the lowbred citizens of Fiore, it was a good opportunity to allow everyone to see how little their value was as a monster hunter compared to Louie.

Many of the characters already on Shadow Island had arrived by boat, but the blonde didn't find public transport fitting for someone of his status. Instead, he was just approaching the island on his personal airship. The vehicle was plated with real gold, vivid in color, and large enough to carry only a small handful of people. It was a fitting way of transport, with all of its few seats looking closer to a throne than a standard bench to sit on, and fortunately, the blonde wasn't alone on today's venture.

"I used to hunt for sport all the time. I'm actually very good with it, and soon you'll be able to witness it yourself," Louie looked at Aeluri, who would be on this voyage with him with a triumphant and self-satisfied smirk on his smug face, "I've had dozens of gorillas like you mounted on my wall, too."

With only a brief look at the shadow covered island, Althea was already excited.  She had been called to the site to assist in hunting some monsters, which she was always down for!  There was never a point in time when the youth would say ‘no’ to getting paid for creating a bloodbath.  Nowadays, she enjoyed having actual people as her targets more so than some random animals, but the latter was fine as well.  Sure, they relied heavily on the same instincts that the blonde did when in combat, making them easy to defeat, but that didn’t lessen the fun of tearing them limb from limb.  And there wasn’t even a boat trip to spoil her mood: the slayer simply traveled across the surface of the water!  Seeing as she wasn’t a large aquatic vessel, it was much faster as well, allowing for the young girl to sleep in a bit before heading out.

Scanning the shore she’d landed on, the water mage was a tad bit disappointed she didn’t happen to be on the same side of the island as the rest of the hunting party.  However, that was still okay with her!  After all, she would have no reason to be conscious of another’s presence when reducing some members of the wild population into bloody pulps.  A small grin spread across her features as she heard the distance chirping of birds and subtle shuffling of all kinds of animals moving about.  Seeing as no one told her not to hold back on killing off native populations, Althea could find no reason not to!  Sure, it wouldn’t be hunting as much as it would be eradication, but she’d still get paid either way.  One method was just marginally more appealing than the other.

Diving right into the moody woods, the slayer began searching for any traces of those hostile, territorial beasts Shadow Island was known for.  And seeing as they were local menaces so bothersome that the island’s residents needed to request a hunting party, Althea hoped that her expectations would be met to some degree.

Post by Sakura Kisagami 18th August 2020, 2:22 pm

It was not much of the idol's first idea to jump out into the middle of a dark island and begin an ambush of monster hunting. That seemed like a better suited thing that she do under her guise of a doll and her cover. However, this was something she wanted to get out there to do. Time and place probably was the best way to go about this all, so for the meantime she could just enjoy the company of others, maybe raise her prestige among the public eye a little more than she's gotten between the recent event, her prior shows, and the social media. She'd taken a bit of precaution with her traveling, making sure to use a bit of money to secure a private ride to and from the island. It seemed the best of ways to do things in her mind. Why worry about being bugged in some fashion by another person when she can just argue amongst herself.

Her boat had pulled up among some of the others, and while they all showed some signs of varying sea life, hers seemed squeaky clean, like it had been driven off of a car lot and placed right on the water. Not something that was entirely her fault, however not wanting to chance using someone else's boat was also a thing she cared to avoid. The teenage girl stood up and gave a nice long stretch, holding a bottle of water in one hand. Once she stretched, the girl opened the water bottle and began to chug the bottle. The benefit of being a slayer made it much easier to eat something that wasn't food. Once off of the boat, she would toss her bottle in a random trash can sitting on the dock and make her way towards land when she could hear a voice. Or.. maybe voices?

Fixing the pair of fake glasses up to her face in choosing an outfit that she thought would best suit her both in looks and combat, she stumbled upon a face she'd seen before, but never in person. Always in magazines and through social media. It was no mistaking how human she felt in this moment. So used to shelling her emotions off unto her music or that of her doll form where she can stuff it into a place where she wouldn't need to worry about frivolities in the throws of her work. Now, a smile crossed her face as she looked on happily to this elven looking woman, however she simply waved and moved along for the time being. If she was found out so easily, maybe she'd speak to her. However, for now, the thought someone like her would talk to a person like Sakura was few and far between. Best not to break her hopes so early in the day, so to speak.

Aeluri didn’t want to go with her mentee on this monster-hunting job at first. It was on an island, which meant crossing the sea. If there was one thing that she despised above all else, it was deep, open water. Those clutching depths always seemed to be trying to pull her in, even if they were far below a boat’s deck. Her refusal to attend was only swayed when Louie had mentioned that they would be taking his airship.

The vessel was gorgeous. Plated in gold and intricate designs, it shimmered like a dragon in the sky. More than once along their trip, Aeluri could be found staring at the expensive decorations of gold with glittering eyes. Of course, she couldn’t steal any of the valuable metal when it was crafted into such massive pieces. A thief could dream, though.

While oceans were a no-go, Aeluri didn’t mind being high up in the air. For much of the trip she had rested her elbows on the gold-coated railing and watched the clouds pass by. This expedition reminded her of the time they had flown on a massive airship up to a Magic Council hideout.

As they got closer, Louie addressed her, boasting of his hunting skills. Aeluri rolled her eyes. He probably used some kind of lacrima-powered weapon that made hunting as easy as pressing a button. In her opinion, that was not hunting at all.

“Great, I can’t wait,” Aeluri grumbled. He was still calling her gorilla, even though it was ages ago that he had coined that nickname. So what, she had roughhoused him a bit when they first met? He deserved it for being a pompous jerk.

“I’ll mount your ass on my wall if you keep that up.” The threat was genuine, though the chances of it being taken that way were minimal.

    "THERE. YOU. ARE."

    Click!

In a moment unlike any other, a muscular, bearded redhead donning his officer's uniform appeared behind Clementine, cuffing her thin, olive wrists to his pale, thick one. There wasn't a moment of hesitation, nor a look quite as frightening or as notably intense as the one that encaptured his expression right about now. It was none other than Major General Chiyuki Suzuki, or Major General Doppo to most, and the moment his baby blue eyes fixed on that familiar face, he seized the opportunity to grab her the moment they both stepped off the boats.

He had originally arrived in his normal form—far less large and hairier than this, but he knew that he couldn't keep up with the faster ones like this young woman unless he matched their pace in this form. He didn't like doing it, as it exacerbated every emotion he experienced, especially anger, but he had to if he was wanting to guarantee the arrest of that girl right now.

"YOU THOUGHT THIS WAS OVER, DIDN'T YOU? YOU HAVEN'T REPLACED MY EVERYTHING SINCE THOSE BLOCK PARTIES, YOU SHIT EATING PISSPUDDLE." Doppo leaned down, speaking into her ear. He wasn't trying to make a scene in front of the other wizards who were invited here to cull some monsters, and he wasn't looking for people to arrest either, but it seemed that no matter the volume he attempted to speak at, he always sounded incredibly intense and energetic.

"I ONLY HAVE A PAIR A OLD WHITE KROCS EVER SINCE YOU SPRAYED MY SANDALS, AND THE PAINT WOULDN'T WASH OUT OF MY CLOTHES, YOU FUCKSKITTLE. IT TAKES A SPECIAL KIND OF ASSHOLE TO DO THAT TO SOMEONE, AND YOU'RE GOING TO MAKE UP FOR THAT AND YOUR CRIMES. ARE WE CLEAR?" Doppo raised his wrist to show the cuffs, berating her as quietly as he could with the same rage of some sort of bull.

Monster Hunting (A-rank Midgame Grind) Empty Re: Monster Hunting (A-rank Midgame Grind)

Post by Ran 18th August 2020, 10:35 pm

Seika loved monsters! She was out today to hunt some! Aphelia was coming along; hopefully, they could manage to meet some cool creatures instead of having to kill them. Death was usually not very pretty, although she guessed it could be. Mostly, the mage was excited overall to explore this new location. There was sure to be a large number of opportunities to take snapshots of the adventure. Although her bond mate rather disapproved of venturing off to a random island with no explicit promise of pay, the girl wouldn't allow herself to be dissuaded. "Aphi, hurry up!" Even though she herself was the one lagging behind, the mage managed to chastise her feline companion. Trying to encourage her to lead the way faster, Seika rushed after the spirit, hot on her heels. Somehow, a regular train ride had turned into running the rest of the way there after the girl had accidentally set fire to one of the cars. Her magic wasn't always attributable to herself, but in this case, half a dozen other passengers had seen the uh, small spark, fly out and land on a pillow, soon engulfing the booth into flames.

The cat's attitude was still sour from the abrupt change in their itinerary. Rather than spending a few days lounging about on plush cushions, then taking a ferry to the island, they were stuck walking. Who even know if they would make it on time for the majority of the monster hunting? Although, Aphelia could acknowledge it might be better to miss out on that sort of thing. The rewards weren't exactly promising. In addition, she was sure they might encounter dangerous beasts that could potentially deal serious harm to her bond mate. So for all of those reasons, the feline couldn't bring herself to be upset enough to bribe the train conductor into letting them stay. Normally, she wouldn't shy away from tossing around funds to get what she wanted. That one incident with the spa had proved that quite clearly.

    Icarus

Unlike most of the mages crowding to the island, the flying one swooping in on wings of red was not here to hunt monsters. The idea that the locals were trying to take control of nature on the island by offering to pay people to kill any threatening fauna didn't sit right with Icarus. They were trying to bend it to their will without seeing if they were even worthy of remaining on the island and living. His personal mission was to try and protect the creatures just doing what they did best, even if that meant fighting the mages and locals alike.

Icarus quickly made a nuisance of himself as he did as Omera commanded. A group of two mages below were roping down a magnificent beast covered in feathers. Had they snatched this poor bird right out of the sky? It shrieked through its sharpened beak as its wings were twisted and pinned unnaturally. Nearby was a wounded cow, which had probably been dinner for this gigantic avian. Fear and confusion shone in its large brown eyes. It had no idea why it was being attacked for just living, and with righteous anger, Icarus descended before the second mage could use the dark magic blade forming in his grip. "Stop!!" he cried, flying low and kicking both feet into his chest, then kicked off of that mage to tackle the one keeping he ropes secured. "What the hell!?" the dark-magic mage huffed, winded but getting back to his feet. "Leave it alone! It's not doing anything wrong," Icarus answered with a scowl. Fighting two on one was not easy for the winged man, especially when his own magic was neither strong or well controlled, but in the end the two were roped up with the very same rope they'd restrained the bird with and a bloody Icarus was petting the very large beak of the grateful creature. It then snatched the cow and took to the sky, followed by Icarus as bodyguard. After flying a short distance, it landed in a large nest with three new hatchlings. It had just been trying to feed itself and its babies. This whole mission was a sin he wouldn't stand for.

Monster Hunting (A-rank Midgame Grind) Empty Re: Monster Hunting (A-rank Midgame Grind)

Post by Dela 19th August 2020, 2:29 am

The tone of this island certainly fit the secret lair that was hidden deep within its long stretching shadows. Elizabeth Rose Hodgins would have never thought such a place existed, let alone that it would be the first place she'd see upon being "un-retired". The events leading up to her release from eternal cursed purgatory were still blurry.

Prior to being summoned, she'd stood armless and soulless amongst all the other spent magical girls, all standing in a dim, sparse forest of leafless trunks. She'd been there for close to one hundred years, yet the creeping bark that had overtaken the others had only just begun to crawl up her legs. It was a sick and twisted consequence for momentary power, made worse by her sister taking up the mantle. Every time Millie-- or Dela as she went by now-- died, she was both elated to see her and speak with her and guilt-ridden for feeling that way. In those sometimes long gaps between visits, Elle was left to pine after the simple farm days and her ruined aspirations for the future, as well as worry for her sister who was trying to very hard to save them both.

Aberneel, the orchestrator behind the magical girl con, somehow brought her back from that place. While it was true he'd devoured her corrupted crystal and thus her soul, his new ambitions and the twins' unique situation led to a risky move to bring her back and bond her to Dela's crystal. Her entire purpose was to corrupt their now shared crystal further. Dela was taking too long to mature the crystal, and Aberneel was famished. He had complete control over her and her purpose was to lead Dela to her bleak fate.

But first, she had to relearn to exist. At current she was mute and fitted with mechanical arms she didn't know how to use. His current mission for her was to wander around Shadow Island and get reacquainted with living, fighting, and using the cursed magical girl powers.

Today's outing was fueled entirely for personal gain. The tall blond had already been on Shadow Island when all the mages started arriving. Given it's permanently dusky and frankly Vampire-friendly atmosphere, it wasn't exactly a tourist attraction. With a little investigation into what was drawing all these people, it soon became clear. The locals had hired those strong enough to come and quell the dangerous mythical beasts that hid in the shadows. The promise of jewel had brought more than anticipated, but despite the shabby state of most of the island's amenities, it seemed some islanders still had deep pockets. Pockets Birch would have no issues emptying.

Instead of boarding the boat he possessed a ticket for to get back to the mainland, he instead turned and went out into the wilds by himself. A little carnage would do him good after the events that had happened prior to this. He wanted to flex his magical muscles, perhaps feed on some magical beasts or even some particularly strong mages that appealed to him. While killing people would earn him no jewel, the beasts certainly would. And if he was to regain his power and his kingdom, he'd need to build his bank and power simultaneously.

Luckily for everyone else, he ran into a shadow crawler, a cloaked spirit that crept out to devour creatures and man alike. They didn't eat the body, though. It was the essence of a person or thing they munched on, draining it of energy and magic and soul if they got a hold of it long enough. One sprang on Birch, but it barely got a taste of the celestial magic he possessed before he reversed it on the dark beast. Birch preferred to touch what he siphoned from, but it couldn't always be done. Instead, he held out a very small black hole in his palm, which started to drag in the wisps of darkness from the screeching spirit, as well as any debris in a ten-meter radius.

Monster Hunting (A-rank Midgame Grind) Empty Re: Monster Hunting (A-rank Midgame Grind)

Post by Percy 19th August 2020, 3:13 am

Unlike most that traveled to this dark and foreboding island for the promise of a heft payday, Percy was here purely for the thrill of fighting monsters and studying mages. Armed with his gadgets and a bag containing a science kit and a notebook, he was prepared to go out and face danger. He'd prove himself capable of handling just as much as a mage while also trying to find the secret that would unlock the magic within himself he sought so much. It was a complicated mindset, but it was one that the younger Dagger struggled with for most of his life. It was a constant strive to prove himself and improve beyond any possible expectations of him.

Much to his fanboy glee, there were way more mages than he'd anticipated. The island was crawling with them and they were just as diverse if not more so than all the native species on the island that were being hunted. Some drew on practical forces like energy to accomplish their supernatural feats, some pulled from artifacts, most just bent innate magical power to their will in a variety of ways, while others were blessed by gods or cursed by demons. He'd attempted the demon route himself and was left...less than satisfied. It'd almost killed him and he still couldn't remember what he'd done in that missing two weeks in his memory. Lucky for Percy, most of these mages loved to brag, so as long as he stayed out of their way while they slew beasts for money, they would answer any inquiries he had about their abilities, like where they'd come from, what age they got them, and exactly how they could control them. The two-toned young man had asked these questions countless times, and while some answers were similar, it was always worth asking. Sometimes he got answers that differed, and he never knew which potential answer could crack the equation and allow him to get the thing he wanted most in life.

The bunny girl wasn’t pleased and as she took her first steps on to Shadow Island, her normally blue hair had already turned pink, a symbol of her unhappiness. She’d been deceived by the job giver, who’d told her to her face that the job would involve saving animals from a group of nasty humans, not that she was supposed to wipe out a group of animals herself. Someone was going to pay for this deception and as her red eyes gazed out upon the shadowy place in front of her, Miranda would place a hand on her set of spirit keys

“Rengar! Come to my aid!” She called out, summoning a large cat-like humanoid creature who appeared beside her.

The spirit would turn its eyes to Miranda, sensing her anger and spoke swiftly, her voice deep, “I take it that this is not a social call, Mistress? Something troubles you?”

Turning to her spirit, Miranda would give her a rather solemn look, “We’ve been lied to, Rengar. We’ve been tricked into going after our fellow beasts and I’m not going to stand for it. So, we’re going to go and protect them instead and take out those who try to cause them harm. You with me?”

The tall cat-like creature laughed, her claws bursting forth, razor sharp and ready to strike. “You know that you never have to ask me that. I do so hate to see you frown, Miranda. Let’s do this.”

With a nod, the red eyed bunny girl would start to sprint off into the forest that was almost asking to be explored, her loyal spirit behind her, more than ready for battle. She had no idea of the strength of any of the others who were involved in this cruel escapade but that didn’t matter to her, she’d take care of them.

    Shadow Island.

A lot of memories were connected to this place, all of them weighing heavily on the silver-haired Ambassador of Dies Irae, and for some reason, all of them seemed like they were connected to Mars, the Nephilim and Seal that he shared this vessel with, and his personal experiences, which all appeared to revolve around him, in some way, losing his cool. Today, he was not here for personal matters, though. It was a job, as it so often tended to be the case these days. The people of Shadow Island had always had a problem with the beasts that were attracted to this place, and the God of Ishgar could understand why. The seemingly perpetual absence of light undoubtedly made perfect breeding grounds for some of the species that lived in this part of the world. At least, that was what he assumed. In a sense, Johann understood that it was perhaps the people of this island that were infringing on the territory of whatever it was that lurked here, but the casualties amongst the human populace had become unacceptable. If the creatures and the humans on this island wanted to coexist in balance, one or the other had to be culled, and Johann was not about to go and, well, "cull" the innocent people of Shadow Island. He had fewer moral qualms about slaughtering beasts.

Having accepted the job, he had met up with a small group of mages that were pursuing the same job, all from different makes and factions, it seemed, though united in the same goal: To hunt.

Teleporting himself and the small group onto the island, the few mages would begin to wander until, not long after, they had stumbled over one of the "problems" that had been specifically designated for extermination, and the Ambassador could understand why. A massive spire, an irregular structure that appeared like some sort of oversized anthill, would become visible in the distance, made of a substance that looked like stone or concrete. Whatever had made this, though, it had not been made by human hands ... or any hands at all, for that matter. "Looks like we found our target", the man would comment as he stopped on a small hilltop nearby, his gaze centered firmly on the towering hive. "Well, I suppose we should get to work. Let us announce our presence, then. Any objections?". One of them seemed somewhat unsure, mumbling something under his breath, but all of them would remain silent. The Ambassador took this as an agreement. "Splendid. Let us begin".

What a fucking shithole of an island. At least, that was what Aspen was thinking, letting her amber-colored irises wander over the strange and exotic vegetation that seemed to cover the place on all sides, despite the ominous and seemingly unending darkness that clouded the appropriately named location. It was cold, probably because the sun didn't exactly shine here. Literally. It annoyed her, not least due to the fact that this place reminded her of home. The atmosphere here had the same chill to it, and it smelled like decay and death. Without a doubt, this was a harsh, unforgiving place, perhaps in that regard sharing this particular characteristic with Pergrande. Anyway, she hadn't come to lament her past and pity herself. She had a job to do.

Apparently, the people of this island had had some trouble recently with local monsters or something like that. Not that she cared exactly, to be honest, but they had put out a particularly generous reward for anyone willing to assist in decimating their population, and Aspen was entirely for making some easy money. Fighting was something she was good at, and compared to the usual odd jobs that people sometimes had for mages, she was sick and tired of mixing some dumb potions for idiotic shopkeepers, this was a walk in the park. Meeting up with a group of mages that had also accepted the job, some white-haired old man, who was apparently a big deal with a guild called Dies Irae, something she'd never heard of before and yet she had the feeling she'd met him somewhere previously, a guy in full armor, calling himself a mercenary with as few words as possible, and a stuttering, nervous kid who fancied himself an officer of the Rune Knights. Out of all these dubious figures, the Slayer from Silver Wolf liked the quiet guy the most on the merit of his lack of engagement, though having a group would make the job even easier.

So, with an expressionless face, the girl would follow them across Shadow Island, keeping her usual, stoic grimace that conveyed little to no emotion up. Getting acquainted for what was essentially a mission was not really necessary, after all, and she certainly wouldn't pretend to be friendly with them, even though the Rune Knight didn't seem to agree with that view, constantly trying to strike up a conversation until finally, they would reach their destination, disinterested eyes looking at the anthill-like structure in the distance when they stopped. So this was tagged for destruction, huh? Could do, certainly. Of course, she had no objections to start as soon as possible. The earlier they would begin, the earlier they would be done ... and get paid. "Let's go".

The wraith, wordlessly and with no reaction or interest, would follow the man with the silver-hair, as well as the rest of the group of mortals. Appearances, as it was so often the case, though, could fool easily. Cassius was scanning his surroundings with his ghostly, unperceived senses especially intently, taking note of any sound, any movement, no matter how small. Driven by a reward, the professional killer had been driven to accept the offer that had appeared seemingly all over Fiore recently. Monsters threatened the lives of mortals on Shadow Island, and so the mortals had done what they could do best: Appeal to the greed of their fellow humans to do their dirty work for them. Not that Cass was complaining, though. Killing a beast and killing a human was no different. In a sense, humans were beasts just as much as the monsters they sought to exterminate, but the wraith couldn't care less. As long as he would be paid, he would kill whoever he was pointed at. Still, he had not expected to run into a group, and while he would be more than okay with performing his task solo, arguably, it was clear that multiple mages forming a party would carry with it certain advantages compared to very few disadvantages. He would keep an eye on the man, though. The mortal, Cassius had noticed immediately, whether the man realized it or not, radiated an immense and unreal aura, so much so that even the wraith's instincts told the undead to stay away from him. The other two were unremarkable and not worth taking up valuable space in the ghost's mind.

As long as he would keep his appearances up, he had given himself a fake occupation with the words "Cassius is ... a hunter ... mercenary ...  if you will", and the mortals had seemed to swallow the lie without a second thought, there would be no danger. Naturally, they had no reason to doubt the creature. He was just another hunter trying to earn his reward, and for today only, that would certainly be true. Still, blending in with these beings took effort considering that Cass was still very much not one of them. His manner of speech, for example, would be, with great strain, turned into something that sounded close to human, at best. His apperance was, of course, shrouded by the armor, which mortals tended to assume was inhabited by just another one of them. He would prefer to keep the illusion up, otherwise that might lead to questions and not-so-pretty answers.

Regardless, it seemed like the group would lead him straight to their objective, the wraith's senses continuing to scan his surroundings, though sharpening and focussing on the structure before them. His helmet would be moved up slightly to give the impression of a person moving their gaze underneath. Naturally, the wraith, too, had no qualms about beginning their work immediately and without delay. It would be the most efficient option available to them, stretching out his hand to begin drawing from his collection ...

This island was, admittedly, really kind of spooky if you thought about it, the lack of sunlight and warmth frightening the Rune Knight Staff Seargant more than he cared to admit. While being in a group of other mages gave him some sense of security, the omnipresent, gloomy setting didn't exactly help to soothe the young man's anxiety. Quite the contrary.

Shen, of course, had come to Shadow Island for the same reason that all the other mages here had: To hunt the monsters that had begun to threaten the people here. From what he had read, all kinds of wild beasts and stuff like that had threatened the settlements on this island and the people were desperately looking for help. Why anyone would choose to live here permanently was beyond him, but he couldn't ignore an honest call for help, not in his current line of work. While he was, of course, a Rune Knight, he was just as much a mage that wanted to help people out. The reward was nice, but it wasn't about that, in the end.

Well, as much as that was the case ... why did he have to be paired with people like this? All them seemed a little too ... serious about this, the only one that didn't strike Shen as some kind of inhuman monster being a girl that was around his age. "T-these two seem kinda scary, r-right?", he would try to joke with her, of course, refering to the man in full plate armor, perhaps he was some kind of actual knight, and the man in the black coat, who looked like he was part of some kind of military. Well, he had introduced himself as ... uh, what was it ... his name sounded noble and foreign, and he was the leader of a group called "Dies Irae". He'd just call him Ambassador for now, that was easier to remember. Not that Shen had ever heard of them, but he would be sure to keep in mind and maybe read up on them later, if he remembered. The girl, however, didn't respond to him, only shooting him a side glance, coupled with her expressionless face, before continuing to walk along, leaving the Staff Seargant a little down. "O-oh ... okay ...". Maybe he'd picked the wrong kind of group for this. Was it too late to dip?

    Code-name : Damien

Deleronark would take a deep breath and sigh heavily as he stepped onto the island and glanced about his surroundings. He had always been objectively curious as to who named such places. Shadow island, was pretty ominous name for what seemed to be a rather mundane, if not slightly creepy, local. Rubbing his hands through his white hair he would glance around and shake his head. He was not alone of course, this job had been shared with all kinds of mages, from all walks of life. The hidden assassin in fact had almost turned it down on principle… almost.

He did not however for one pressing reason. The number one reason he did anything really. Information, and knowledge. With so many people and the sheer scope of this job it meant he would meet, have contact with, and perhaps even earn favors from people he would never get to discourse with on his normal everyday day job of being the director for a secret assassin organization. As such. Here he was. He was in the form of Damian, and that was who he had registered as. A rather mundane mage of no skill or renown. He had some backing sure, he had helped Dagger Corp some time ago with the Christmas fenagle that had happened. But, other than that he was completely unknown. Which was good, all things considering.

Looking about the undercover assassin would see that there were a few faces he recognized, but none h would interact with at the current moment. Taking a breath, he would remain silent and wait.
