When Elen, still finding herself with a lack of clothes kept modest only by three conveniently placed tufts of cloudstuff, arrived at the town she discovered that it was a town populated by humans, with two large stone towers on either side of the town set against the mountains. From these towers protruded six cannons each, and to Elens surprise, these cannons locked onto her just moments after her seeing them. Two cannons from each tower were trained on her while the others seemed to move a little as if anticipating others.
The cannons did not fire, however, but they remained trained on her expectantly as men appeared from the tower and from a barracks like building- she could only assume- all armed with very long rifles that looked like... well, like they could hunt a dragon.
Well if that isn't a surprise. Elen thought. The people remained ready, but Elen continued to approach. They were likely armed for dragons, they wouldn't be so likely to shoot her now would they? She clearly was no dragon. The fact that they picked her out from the clouds so easily proved that they were equipped and at the ready to oppose the flying lizards.
Elen was still very far and very high when she spotted them and they spotted her, so it took a minute before Elen swooped gracefully to land lightly on one foot on top of the town's gate, in the mean time the people seemed wary of her, but remained vigilant as though she were a distraction or brought 'friends' along with her.
The men were silent, most looking confused. She could see their emotions painted easily on their faces, the sweat drops trickling down their brow on some of the younger ones. The older ones were much fiercer, looking very battle hardened.
"Well hello to you too" Elen said with a light hearted laugh. That seemed to make them more confused, though more relaxed for the most part. A few grumpier looking men only seemed to adjust their aim a bit and glower at her.
"I have to say, you're the first humans I've seen who weren't in chains. I could have sworn I saw dead bodies strung up like dead animals in some sort of market in the city." That seemed to be a touchy subject, as one stressed looking individual fired a shot at her. She saw his twitchiness and reacted, shunting to the side a little with a tuft of wind as a thick bullet brushed past her in the same moment the trigger completed it's release.
An older man next to the trigger happy young man hit him on the head, and to Elens surprise the shot didn't start a shootout from itchy triggers.
"Sensitive subject I take it. It is indeed a sad sight." Elen said, carefully. She was a little pissed that she could have had her head taken off right there, but given the circumstances... she'd best stifle that unless she wanted to make these men her enemy.
"I'm new here, new to this world actually." She boldly stated, might as well tell the truth right? "Tell me, why is it that so many of these overgrown lizards exist where humans should walk? Why do they reign over you so? And how have you survived for so long, apparently well off on your own? I see no dragon ruling you."
Looks were exchanged. Confused faces judging her. As if it'd help, they wouldn't be able to tell if she were lying even if she was. But then people can be stupid.
No answer came until a large man with a steel jaw, thick iron plating on his arms and shoulders, with giant metal boots came from the big double wide doors of the barracks. It somehow seemed appropriate that the man carried a cannon on his back the way he did. A large battleax the same size as the cannon crossed his back, the two weapons forming an X and over the two was a large iron shield that was almost as large as he is.
In one free hand he held a cabbage from which he took a massive bite out of, chewed twice and swallowed. In his other hand he carried a fork, which had speared on it a steal the size of Elen's head. He consumed the meat in a single bite, and chewed it as he approached Elen.
The men split before him like a river before a stone. He stood perhaps twice as tall as the other men around him, and if Elen were on the ground before him he'd probably tower over her and obscure the sun.
Shit dude, you mother must have been a bull, and your father a mountain giant. Elen came close to saying that out loud, but refrained.
"Who are you?" He said in a slow voice that felt comparable to two boulders being crushed together. He shoved the rest of the cabbage into his mouth and swallowed it. Elen half expected him to eat the fork as well. Instead he clenched his fist around it, compressing it into a ball he tossed aside.
