The slow sway of the ship, side to side on the ocean provided a peaceful rhythm for the man dressed in white to meditate from within the bowls of the Midian Junk.  It had been several months at sea for Shen Hakuhei, the Martial Artist from the land of Midi, and he was eager to reach Fiore and see the fabled land for the first time.  The cawing of the Gulls signaled their approach towards land, and many oriental looking people hurried to the deck, to get their first look at the Western nation.  Slowly, Shen raised himself on to his feet, and made his way on to the deck along with the others while sailors scrambled to prepare the ship for landing at the port.  Shen's white eyes widened, as the vibrant green shoreline came in to view, with Hargeon's colorful city providing a beautiful contrast to the land that Shen, for the time being, would call home.

A bridge was laid between the ship and the port, and the people began to disembark.  Shen strode slowly towards the city, staring in awe at the buildings the likes of which he'd never seen before.  "So this is Fiore."  The Martial Artist would say with glee, as he walked down the bustling port city.  Sailors from all over the world went about their business, delivering goods and trading their wares, Hargeon was certainly a remarkable town to behold, and seemed to glow more beautifully as Shen made his way in to the down town portion.  However, within the beautiful atmosphere, Shen could sense a disturbance nearby.  The cry of a fair lady.

Shen made his way in to a dark alley, where a man held a knife to an oriental lady, one of the passengers from the same ship Shen came in on.  "Make with the jewels lady, I know your kind carry your fortunes with you at all times, now fork it over!"  While threatening the lady, the man had not realized Shen had approached, and stood directly beside him.  Startled the mugger hopped back, away from Shen.  "Wh- where did you come from!?"  With his pale, pupil-less eyes, Shen stared at the man intimidatingly.  "You should leave."  He mentioned to the lady, who quickly ran off behind Shen, out of the Alley.

"Why you, who do you think you are!?" In anger, the mugger lunged at Shen with his dagger, aiming for his heart, but with a gentle caress Shen placed his wrist against the Mugger's and pushed the knife away.  "I am Shen."  Swiftly turning his wrist, Shen grabbed the Muggers arm and while simultaneously pulling on his arm, Shen thrust his other palm in to the man's stomach and pushed him while bending at the knees.  Suddenly an explosive force launched the mugger toward the other end of the Alley, landing him in a pile of garbage.  Breathing deeply, Shen stood upright, turned, and walked out of the Alley.  "So, this is Fiore."

    Hargeon.

Home to the Lamia Scale guild, it was awash with many an odd sort. Through this place walked a certain gray haired mage, on his way to his guild hall to report the completion of a job. Dmitry Kazakov was happy to be done with the job he had just undertaken and ready to relax a bit, perhaps take a long nap.

"Damnit! Why did it have to be more chickens?" He said to himself, upset at having to deal with his nemesis once again. However, as he was about to walk past an alley way, someone just happened to be walking out themselves. Dmitry would have collided into this person, except his presence stuck out like a sore thumb to the medium. Obeying his instincts in reaction to his unique sense, he stopped in his tracks as the man walked out, not an ounce of momentum flowing past him.

"You..." Dmitry muttered just above a whisper, mismatched eyes narrowed.

    "Who are you?"

It wasn't long after Shen had stepped out of the alley, that an odd looking fellow with two different colored eyes spoke to him, eagerly asking for an introduction.  Though it seemed like a rude way to greet someone, Shen was unfamiliar with Fiore's customs still.  Perhaps it was a normal thing to ask for a stranger's name, before giving them your own.  Or perhaps he was just rude... Either way, Shen quickly disregarded the rudeness upon noticing the man's eyes,  a condition with which he could sympathize, possessing a unique pair of totally white eyes himself for which he was accused of being a Demon in his home country of Midi.  Was the man before him a Demon, was he accused of being one also, or was he simply a man?  Shen's curiosity had been peaked.

The white clad oriental offered a slight bow, holding his hands together while maintaining eye contact.  "I am Shen Hakuhei, of Midi.  I arrived on the ship, this morning."  Shen continued to examine the oddity with interest.  It felt as though he possessed a considerable amount of inner magic within him, a trait Shen only found in the monks who raised him back home.  Upon completing his bow, Shen offered his hand to the stranger.  He was aware of the custom of shaking hands within Fiore, and opted to follow in this friendly tradition.  "Who are you?"  Shen would ask, with a slightly more polite tone.

Dmitry eyed the man cautiously, not sure what to make of him. However, he decided it was best to accept the hand offered to him for now, believing it best to learn a bit more of this man before making any calls.

"Dmitry Kazakov," he said, shaking the hand. "I'm with Lamia Scale, the local guild round these parts." He wasn't sure why, but he was getting a strange feeling from this person. On one hand, he was certain that the man was powerful, in one way or another. On the other hand, he felt a strange calmness as well, as if this Shen wasn't worried about a thing. "C'mon, I know a place." Dmitry then proceeded to take the newcomer to his preferred establishment: The Filthy Fishbone.
"Yo, Marty!" He shouted as he entered the restaurant. "Got a new customer for ya!"

"Hey, Mitry! Whadya say buddy?" Marty came out and gave his unusual greeting to the frequent visitor to this place. "I say get me the usual, I'm hungry!" Dmitry say down and waited for his food, indicating for his 'guest' to take a seat. While he wasn't usually big on inviting strangers to lunch, he felt the best way to get a fix on this man was to eat with him and that was all there was to it.

Shen raised an eyebrow upon the mention of a Guild. He'd heard of the Guilds of Fiore before, but was still rather uncertain of what they actually were. "A, Guild?" He inquired, before Dmitry suddenly beckoned Shen to follow him without fully hearing him out. He was a straight to the point fellow, this Dmitry. Still unfamiliar with Fiore's customs, Shen felt that it would be extremely rude of him to refuse, and so he followed Dmitry to the establishment. A quaint little place, of a far different style Shen was used to but comfortable all the same. Dmitry seemed well known, which came to no surprise based on his personality.

Shen sat adjacent from Dmitry as he ordered for him. Kind, considering Shen was unfamiliar with everything on the menu... And also the odd looking utensils placed on his napkin. Shen picked up his fork and examined it closely, feeling somewhat bewildered. He was used to chop sticks, and missed them dearly. When the food arrived, he first examined how Dmitry managed his food, and mimicked him. Simple enough, though he preferred chopsticks... "The Guild that you mentioned earlier... What is it?" Shen inquired, as he took a bite of the food, a tough piece of salty meat... Shen chewed slowly, and gulped it down with a little bit of discomfort.

"Eh? What hole did you crawl out of pal?" Dmitry asked, surprised that he met someone who knew less about society than he did. "You must not be from round here to not know about that..." Soon, Dmitry's 'usual' was brought to him, fish and chips, which he proceeded to salt into oblivion before dining on.

"Guilds're places where ya go to get work if your a mage, you know, somebody who uses magic." He explained between bites. "There's other kinds of guilds too, but I'm with the magical kind. Best place to go if you use magic, since the jobs give you good practice, not to mention experience."

"Mitry, I told you to stop chewing and talking at the same time!" Called the waitress, who happened to be Marty's daughter. "Ah, get off my case already Cait, you sound like my Mom or somethin'." The waitress merely shook her head and proceeded into the kitchen to dump the remnants of their last customer's meal in the trash, Dmitry turning to the odd traveler. "So, what, you don't got magic where you're from?"

Shen huffed a little when Dmitry pointed out the obvious. "Midi is indeed far from here." Shen said in agreement while raising a peculiar eyebrow towards his new friend, as he seasoned his meal. Things were different in Midi, very different based on the way Dmitry described things. The word mage was not one that had yet reached Shen's ear. He'd seldom heard the word magic in Midi, mostly used by peasants to describe witch craft or demons, but Shen came to a conclusion of his own. "Where I'm from, I was taught to control my Chi, the life force that exists in all things living. Perhaps it, and magic are one and the same."

Shen turned his head suspiciously towards the door through which they entered the establishment. "Perhaps I may demonstrate, and you can see for yourself." Shen faced forward, and slowly took a sip of water from his glass as a loud voice shouted from outside. "Shen!" The restaurant went silent, as all other customers and staff turned towards the windows. "Shen! You god damn foreign squinty eye'd rat! I know yer in there!" Through the windows, a band of about twelve rugged looking individuals, with mauls and axes stood outside. One of whom was the same man Shen had thwarted earlier. He stood next to a large man, a really large man with a bald head and bushy gray beard holding an enormous Maul over his shoulder. "You got some Nerve, coming in to 'ar town, hitting up one of 'ar guys! A'll give you, to the count 'a Ten, to get out 'ere... Or we'll tear that restaurant apart, along with everyone in it!"

"One!" Calmly, Shen turned to Dmitry and smiled. "I'm sorry for causing this much trouble. "Two!" Karma can be quite a hassle some times. "Three!" Slowly Shen stood up from his seat. "Four!" "Allow me to rectify my mistakes." Placing his hands together, Shen bowed to Dmitry before turning towards the door. "Five!" Without even the slightest quiver in his breath, Shen stepped through the door of the restaurant and walked out in to the middle of the street. The mugger Shen defeated Prior to this meet, nodded towards his boss to confirm it was actually him. "So, yer the scawny outta towner eh?" The enormous man began to laugh. "Sick 'em boys!"

Shen did nothing as the gang surrounded him. His eyes were locked on to the giant's, who smiled arrogantly back at him. A sudden lonely gust brushed passed them. Shen's hair and clothes fluttered in the wind and he breathed deeply as one of the grunts took it upon himself to make the first move, and charged Shen screaming at the top of his lungs with his axe over head. With all his might he brought the axe down upon Shen with enough force to cleave a man in twain, but with a subtle wave of his hand, Shen brushed the axe to the side with the back of his hand. The axe met nothing but the ground beside him, and with a turn of the hand, Shen grabbed on to the Grunt's wrist and heaved on him, pulling him away and around and around and with a simple toss, threw him over the head of the enormous man.

A look of shock came over the gang. They looked at one another, as if to decide who would make the next move until finally six of them charge Shen at once. The Martial Artist slid his left foot back, and waved his arms around himself slowly, and as the six men drew near, it appeared as though Shen's arms multiplied in to six and began striking at all six men at once an uncountable number of times. The sound of Shen's palms striking them echoed loudly like the sound of a hummingbird's wings and in mere moments, the six men were flung back and defeated before Shen, who stood steadily with his arms outstretched. Once more he began to wave his arms around his body, and slide his feet in to position. This time, he took the offensive.

Shen rotated his rear foot in front and waved his out stretched arm around himself, with his palm facing outward, and then rotated again in the same direction waving his other arm around in the same manner. The swift action generated a current of air around himself, that generated a strong breeze in the area, and with a powerful thrust of his palm, an enormously powerful gust of wind threw the remaining enemies to the Boss's right away, crashing in to vending carts and garbage on the side of the road, and with a thrust of his other palm, an identical gust threw the enemies to the Boss's left away until only he remained.

Shen stood upright, in a circle generated by the strong wind, with a single wave down the center reminiscent of a yin & yang. "You god damn son of a bitch. You think you can come in to 'ar town, throw a couple 'a small time crook's around, and think you're the god damn king of the hill? Guess again son! Yer about to get hammer brought down on you boy!" With speed impressive for a man of his size, the big boss charged Shen, raising his gigantic stone maul in to the air and with great force, brought it down over Shen's head. Immediately Shen bent at the knees and thrust his palm in to the air, colliding with the maul that upon impact shattered in to a million bits. "This is no longer your town." With one final thrust, Shen pushed his palm in to the Boss's stomach, and sent him flying in to the sky, over the building across from the restaurant. The Martial Artist breathed deeply, the battle was over, and there was now one less gang to worry about in Hargeon Port.

"Hmm? Uh, sure, good luck 'n all that." Such was the confident and encouraging pep talk that came from the inspiring Dmitry Kazakov, master of morale boosting. As the foreigner walked out the door to commence with the asskickery, the grey haired mage simply went back to his meal.

"Huh, guess he's a mage after all..." Dmitry mumbled, hearing the sounds of abnormal winds coming from outside, a tell-tale sign of magic in use. "Mitry! Get out there already, they're scaring off the customers!" Yelled Marty, unsure of how his business could survive with all this racket going on.

"Yeah, yeah, keep your panties, I got it." Said the mage as he got up from his seat, grabbing a piece of his fish as he went for the door. However, upon exiting the establishment, he found that the situation was fully in hand, the leader of the goons having been launched clean out of town.

"Damn, nice distance brother." Dmitry said to what likely amounted to a mage in Midi. "So I guess you use magic after all, or whatever the hell you call it where you're from. Look, I'm supposed to ask you if you wanna join the guild, considering you probably ain't part of one already. Who knows, you might actually bump into something you can actually cut your teeth on."

Shen turned towards Dmitry as he came to his side, complimenting the force with which he tossed the large man. "I simply wished to teach him some humility." Shen grinned slightly as he turned his head to look at his eccentric new friend, who proceeded to make him a tempting offer. Shen had his own goals and motivations for coming to Fiore, matters of utmost importance to him. However, he knew nothing of this foreign land. He had no friends, no money and no idea of where he should start to accomplish those goals. It seemed as though karma had smiled upon him and presented him with a strong means of accomplishing his goals, and learning about this strange place.

Shen smiled and turned to face Dmitry and bowed slightly, placing his hands together. "It seems as though it was no coincidence that I bumped in to you, Dmitry. I humbly accept your offer." His eyes widened with excitement, thrilled to take part in this grand adventure, to discover the western nation of Fiore. Shen knew not what he was in for, but it would certainly be a worth while experience for him and a true test of his courage. Shen offered his hand to Dmitry, to shake and be welcomed in to the mage's guild, Lamia Scale, his gateway to the magical world.

"Uh, yeah, good on ya pal..." Dmitry said as he hesitantly shook the offered hand. He began to wonder if this might have been a poor decision on his part, thinking that inviting a whirlwind like Shen might just cause the guild hall to topple over. However, he new his guild could use someone with this level of skill in the guild, having lost some of their heavy hitters. Not to mention, this one seamed like he wouldn't make a lot of noise while Dmitry taking a nap and that was always a plus in his book, the mage treating his sleep like a gift to himself.

"All right, let's get you back to the guild hall. You can sign up there and meet the shrimp himself." He said, referring to the guild master of Lamia Scale. "And one more thing," Dmitry stated as he lead the newcomer to the slightly damaged hall. "I think the longer you spend around these parts, the more your gonna find that fate and coincidence ain't too far apart"

With that, the Lamia Scale guild, as well as the Kingdom of Fiore had a new mage from the land of Midi.
