Upon walking up the spiral of stairs, Mura faintly noticed the wood-framed portrait on the wall above a mantelpiece. While he assumed the two young kids with smiles on their faces to be the two lost kids that they were trying to find now, he was… worried about the third kid in the frame, the baby cradled in the tall man’s arms. Did Rose and Thorn have a little brother or sister? Or was it no longer among them?

Either way, it helped little in his search for them. His Shikigami, however, were revealed to be alright, and he could link his Magical Sensory to them again. There was some kind of sensory-disrupting spell separating the floors, maybe… but ultimately, he had more eyes working around him and Mythica now.

“I can’t sense them…” he worryingly breathed out to his wife, feeling like he wasn’t performing at his best for some odd, unexplainable reason. How come he hadn’t found them by now? Was his Sensory that disrupted by whatever atmosphere was holding them hostage here? It was so sickening, but more chilling was the decoration on the wooden doors… they looked like kids batting off swarms of small, bat-like creatures.

Impatiently, he reached the top of the stairs and opened the doorway, ready to unsheathe his katana if danger showed itself, but all he found was a simple bedroom with a pair of beds. Footlockers and unused uniforms, urgh… nothing to help him in his search-

And that was when the corner of his gaze noticed the button next to the dumbwaiter. He immediately slid his hand across the wall next to the button, trying to get a feel of the other side and whether or not there was any empty space akin to trapdoors and hidden entrances. “Okay, there must be something of use here…” he mumbled before pressing the button.

((OOC: First, I am sorry for the delay. Next, I am honestly confused about the series of events. I thought the dumbwaiter was downstairs, behind the door that could be found through the kitchen. Am I right in assuming this same dumbwaiter is also visible upstairs and has the same appearance/buttons, and it would be directly above the one downstairs and Syn would hear something on account of Mura's button-pushing?))

Things would turn out that the auburn haired girl found nothing really of note in the open doorway itself. A kitchen was lying in wait, still stocked neatly with shelves full of utensils and various vessels. Syn barely glanced at the mixture of pots, pans, and platters before her attention was captured by the strange smell. Rotting food. Clearly, this house was still occupied by some strange matter of spirits or beings. Yet there were no humans eating this food. In Syn's mind, the appearance of the children on the road was highly suspect. Had they been standing outside in the misty village for so long that the food had begun to rot? Originally, the female mage had assumed they had left the house following the night after they had heard the monster and it had supposedly taken their brother. If she factored in this stench of decay, the timeline was quite different.

Suspicious, Syn glanced through the pantry before dismissing it as ordinary. She continued through to a door that, when opened, revealed a dumbwaiter. Tentatively reaching forward, her fingers paused hovering above the button itself. She was not ready to push it just yet, but before she knew what was happening, the dumbwaiter seemed to shake. Perhaps it was moving up or down, she could not quite tell. Syn backed away, her eyes narrowed. Could it be that somebody elsewhere was messing around with things? Turning her attention to the elevator, she would try to peer inside, keeping her face away lest an unfortunate accident or attack occur. Even when she emitted a soft light from her fingertips the angle of aperture belonging to the elevator did not allow her to look around inside. Deciding to bite the bullet, she gave the rope pulley a sharp tug. If this house had stairs and an elevator, it would be reasonable to assume they both led to the same upper floor. However, knowing the strange eccentricities of this house she could not be sure whether this elevator was a one way trip to a hellish basement.

As their investigation continued drawing the group deeper and deeper into the inviting darkness within the house, Mythica's curiosity did not cease. Every room was another clue to the mystery. There was definitely a story here, and the mismatched gaze of the chronomancer was sure to second glance everything she passed. Staring closely at the portraits, Mythica's mind worked silently as her expression seemed rather blank as she turned her head around to continue observing the room. Her eyes met the plated figures with the wolf helmets and Mythica stopped for a moment. Her eyes narrowed slightly at the silent sentinels before she heard Mura's voice chime in.

"Someone is obviously taking us for a ride." She said with a devilish grin, turning her attention away from the the armor and back to her husband. "Why not enjoy it!" She said again, Mythica acting quite the opposite from her husband. Soon her thoughts were interrupted however by the cold draft from up the stairs. Another floor seemed to call to her, and Mythica followed Mura up the stairs with great anticipation. Unlike her companions, Mythica was quite excited to be here. The unknown evil that was behind this event felt riveting. The darkness and negativity, Mythica felt herself relishing in the feelings of the house behind Mura's gaze. She could not explain why, but she felt drawn to this place for the same reasons she felt drawn to so many other horrific locations in the past... It had more than a few scars for those trained to feel them.

Once the pair had reached the top of the staircase Mythica noticed the intricate carvings in the door with an approving grin. "Classy." Mura opened the door first and they were met with yet another empty room and even more questions. This room looked noticeably less exciting than the chamber they had just visited, obviously acting as a servant's quarters. However it didn't stay mundane for long. Mura quickly noticed one of his magical constructs near one of the corners, next to what seemed to be a small dumbwaiter. The fact that Mura had lost his sense over his magic meant that he was flying blind here. Whatever the significance of this spot was, Mythica was sure they were about to find out as Mura pressed the button. "Not sure what else the point would be." Mythica crossed her arms while Mura pressed the button. She took another long look around, closing her eyes and taking in a few moments to feel out the house. A few more moments to submerge into its wounds...
