What the hell? Are we really that cursed?

[leftIt had only been around six or seven weeks since the last festival that he attended with the two women he had now come to see as more than collegues but friends. That was a big step for the blonde haired teen as he didn't really view people in such light mainly because he had some severe trust issues, but it seemed different with them he felt like he could laugh and forget the problems that he had to face in his own world. He wondered if that is what friends actually done, make a person feel like problems were nothing more than a distant memory at least for a little while. There was one thing he had noticed however when the trio seemed to meet up to do things, it was in the most out of the way and creepy areas in Earthland. The first time was by chance in the cursed lands during summer were they enjoyed were on alert but still enjoyed themselves, the second time was through Samira's invitation but again it was very close to the haunted castle which again was within the cursed lands like the time before it and had them having to deal with an issue that none of them really wanted to deal with since they just wanted to have fun. Then again he still chuckled at the pleas his friends had given to get out of the cooking competition he was sure that they couldn't be that bad and then he came to realise they were the types that could burn water. He was kinda speechless at that and had made a mental note on offering them cooking lessons if they wanted, problem was the issue that had cropped up had made him forget as there were more pressing matters but he now remembered once again.

The trio had heard that there would be a haunted tour around the royal castle and so decided they would meet up, do the tour to catch up and have lunch on the the first day of the tour. He had arrived early in the day and decided to do a little shopping, it had been a long time since he had spent any time with Arcadia and was missing her greatly. It still saddened him that he would never see the golden colour of her hair or the emerald green in her eyes as the sun shone on them due to his current condition but he could still hear her voice and had his memories so for now that would just have to be enough. In his shadow there was the younger of the two twin crowned princes Amuul in his shadow who was acting as his protector and eyes on this outting. Out of the two he was the less willing to bend and believed that this was a bad idea but he was out voted and told if he thought it a bad idea then he should be the one who went with Ruvel for his protection. Normally he may have complained about being out the void for so long in the light but he knew he had to put up or shut up on this occasion. The summon knew that the youth was happy to have him there and that at least lessened the summons irritation at the situation.

He had been walking around for a while, wearing a white shirt and trousers, ice blue waist coat, white coat and black shoes, his eyes covered with ice blue silk on this occasion. He always looked as if he could enter a board meeting at the drop of a hat which was a double edged sword as given his age you would think he would be dressed more casual than he was. It was clear that he was still wasn't use to such a thing but then he himself was more than comfortable with his clothing style, it was just how he was raised when he wasn't in what was considered his every day clothing. 'Our summoner, it is getting to the time you agreed to meet the others, I would suggest heading to meet them. Go left.' Amuul sent Ruvel who nodded at the information. 'Thank you Amuul, it's appreciated' he sent back warmly as he headed left down the high street. He felt as if there were a bunch of people watching him as he walked and it made him more than a little anxious, it was the very first time since his injury he had been in such a highly populated area so it wasn't well known that he had been injured. He was wondering how they thought of him, a god of ishgar yet he had been harmed in such a way. Going into battle always came with the possibility of being harmed but his injury hadn't come in such a way, no, his had come at the hands of a betrayal he was to naive to see coming because of his personal connection to them.

It wasn't like there was any warning signs, she hadn't changed and it happened so suddenly. Had it not been for Oykai warning Shindara and Amuul he would have lost more than his sight and he knew it. Shindara and Amuul now were on high alert when it came to Sol but more so when it came to their own cousin Oykai fearing he to would do the same thing that his twin sister did thanks to the curse that twins in their race seemed to possess. Ruvel on the other hand trusted the sarcastic member of the death cast, he knew that it was their contract that made sure he couldn't fall to that madness and fought with every fiber of his being to keep it. He felt the sorrow, confusion and worry that Oykai had and knew he had even contacted Yona to get help from her, it was suppose to be to help Ruvel but it ended up being something that helped Yona and Oykai both. He didn't know any details just that after their meeting that Oykai seemed to be more himself, that a weight had been lifted almost and that had made the blonde haired teen that much happier. After directions and almost being ran over by a carriage once he was quite close to the entrance of the royal castle 'Our summoner, something is strange here.' Amuul sent to Ruvel making him stop instantly 'What do you mean? I need more information.' he sent back, he was only able to feel around six magics due to dulled magic senses and with his lack of sight he relied on everything to be explained to him to be most effective.

The summon realised that he had made an error when Ruvel had asked for more information and knew he would likely never hear the end of it from his elder brother and cousin. 'I do not know if it is for the tour but the castle seems to be covered in what looks to be giant jack-o-lanterns and pumpkins. There also seems to be crows and other things, I suggest proceeding with caution.' he sent to Ruvel but given the undertone he heard in the younger void princes thoughts the blonde knew that Amuul didn't actually believe that it was for the tour but something more sinister at work. "Aww, come on.." Ruvel complained a bit, it was clear he wasn't happy about the information that he had been given "We find festivals in the cursed lands and when we actually agree to do something nice together and do what friends do in somewhere normal this happens..." he continued picking up speed now rushing towards the area they had all agreed to meet up "This isn't happening! Not this time! I want time with my friends!" he called out more to himself than anyone else, it was less than an ideal situation but he didn't care he wanted one time where they could just be normal people in a normal place. Amuul pulled Ruvel back suddenly as a rock seemed to fall just where he was about to stand "What the?!" he called out just then hearing the rock hit the ground before a murder of crows call was heard heard "A murder?" he asked to Amuul 'Indeed our summoner and a very intellegent one.' he sent back 'But then they all are, I often swear it is those of the spiritual calling playing jokes but not on this occasion, proceed with care.' he sent to Ruvel who could only nod at the summons caution to him. Several black charms with unreadable white text appearing in front of him, his hand moving forward made the charms fly forward surrounding the crows starting to slash at them finally causing them all to fall out of the tree and sky they had either been perched in or flying around now twitching on the ground. "I'm sorry but you're an enemy and can cause serious harm to innocent people. Return to your master." the youth said starting to run forward leaving the crows carcass where it fell to try and find Leona and Samira to see if they had come to see if they had arrived and more importantly if they had encountered the same issues he himself had.

    -Royal Castle-

Wearing the blue-and-white outfit that Ruvel had gifted her during the last festival that she, Ruvel, and Samira had attended, Leona also wore her Argent Gloves for protection. Despite the sort-of new outfit and the reassuring feel of her Argent Gloves on her hands Leona felt... naked. That feeling was due to not carrying two vital parts of her traveling gear, namely her Silver Longsword and her knife. Why were they not with her?

Because Leona was visiting Royal Castle for the first time and did not know the weapons policy, she had opted to leave her Silver Longsword and her knife at Silver Wolf Guild Hall to avoid causing a diplomatic incident. As strong and influential as she was thanks to being a Wizard Saint and a Guild Mistress, Earthland's ruling elite were stronger and more influential still. instead of butting heads and getting into a losing battle with them, it was safer and smarter to just leave the weapons at home and trust in her magic instead. Besides, Ruvel and Samira would be there too. As three of Earthland's strongest mages, the three of them should be able to handle any emergency that came up.

Stopping on the path just outside of the grand and imposing castle that was home to Earthland's rulers, Leona took a moment to catch her breath and survey the surrounding area, which looked a lot different than she had expected the home of the ruling elite to be. There were pumpkins liberally dotting the castle grounds, there were jack-o-lanterns perched on the castle parapets and she heard ominous cawing floating down from the trees of the surrounding woods. Every once in awhile she heard a rustling of a lot of wings from nearby like a group of winged animals were taking flight. Maybe it was the local bat population out for its evening hunt for insects.

She was supposed to meet up with Ruvel and Samira to take part in a "haunted tour" around the royal castle... from how Ruvel described it, going on the tour was a chance for them to meet up and catch up with each other since the last festival the trio had attended. Leona had not gone on many adventures lately because the guild's administrative functions required her attention, but she did find the time to induct a few new members into Silver Wolf and put together a guild social for its hard-working members to participate in.

Leona had also somehow found the time to induct three Guild Aces to ease the burden of paperwork and guild management. Those chosen three were Leila Vergious, Alma Miten, and Theo Silversong. All of them had taken special tests to prove their mettle and all three had proven themselves worthy of becoming Aces. Leona felt satisfied with her choices because she knew that if something ever happened to her Silver Wolf would be left in capable hands.

Leona's musing was disrupted by the presence of a strong magic signature, but she soon had other matters to worry about. She heard raucous squawking and was divebombed by a cloud of ravens that was aiming for her eyes and head. Leona screamed and covered her head with her hands before dropping to the ground, feeling dozens of talons whoosh over her head and rake her forearms and Argent Gloves. She even felt some of them rake the back of her outfit before the flock flew away to circle around for a second pass.

Leona hopped up and examined her outfit. Her forearms were covered in scratches but none of the wounds bleed. She felt the cold through the tears in the sleeves and a few tears in the back of her sort-of-new outfit. Leona was incensed. Her clothing tended to take some form of damage during her adventures and this one was no exception. She really liked this outfit too and those birds had ruined it.

"I JUST GOT THIS OUTFIT!" Leona yelled indignantly at the flock circling above her. The incensed Wizard Saint sprinted back onto the path to get the birds to follow her and line themselves up for a Wind Blast to knock them all out at once. Once she was about two hundred paces from the castle she spun around, raised her right hand, and fired a Wind Blast that hit the entire flock as it dove on her. They paused in mid-air and emitted a loud simultaneous CAW before falling to the ground as a flock. All of them turned into a strange shadowy substance when they made contact with the earth and it formed an inky puddle that just sat there. Leona twisted around to examine the back of her skirt and saw where there were some parallel tears around the backside.

"Damn birds." Leona groused as she started to wonder where Ruvel and Samira were. Maybe one of them could do some on-the-fly clothing repairs so that the Wizard Saint of Courage did not walk around all night with mildly torn clothing. This was one of her few really good outfits and she did not like for it to be torn like this. At least most of the skirt survived the avian attack... there were only a few light scratches on the back, but it was still wearable, which was good because she did not bring a change of clothing.

What the hell? Are we really that cursed? Empty Re: What the hell? Are we really that cursed?

Post by Samira Nassar 29th October 2019, 8:24 am

It was another festive time of year. It had gotten to the point that every time she looked at the calendar some sort of event or festival was happening somewhere. This time she had taken notice of several flyers everywhere that detailed a request for pumpkin gathering. Supposedly it was for the end goal of some grand Halloween party, but it would be an event Samira would have to pass on. She already had plans for the day so the pumpkin picking would have to be passed over. Or that had been the plan. How wonderful it was that a pumpkin patch miraculously appeared out of nowhere at the very spot she was to meet the other two mages. Coincidence? Maybe. Curse? Given the luck the trio had with their little meetups, probably. Then again Samira couldn't even have a slumber party without ending up in a battle arena. Maybe it was just her and the other two were along for the cursed ride. She'll be sure to keep that to herself.

Samira had not exactly been to that particular castle before, and certainly not for a tour. The issue of what to wear was concerning. Was it supposed to be an event that required formal attire? Was casual everyday clothes acceptable or even expected instead? It was a castle soooo.... Hm. She wasn't sure. The last few times she dressed for supposed formal events was either a waste of effort since she had to change five minutes later for a mission or was a case of her putting on a maid outfit. Huh, no wonder she was clueless. Her experience with events and social gatherings was not the best. After taking way too long trying to decipher the clothing code, the woman just decided to stick with her normal attire and the moment she saw way too many people dressed formally that didn't live or work on the castle grounds then she would change into one of many outfits that she quickly shoved into her celestial storage before leaving to meet up with the others.

Being on time and punctual was important. It was something Samira always tried to do to prevent people from waiting on her. However, she was not immune to distractions. Sometimes they could be classified as important, sometimes not. The portal of one of her spirits dropped her off at the castle grounds. Well, what should have been the castle grounds. Either the royals were being overly festive or they had a pumpkin problem. The entire grounds had become a gigantic pumpkin patch. In a way that was a good thing. Now she could participate in collecting pumpkins for that mystery party! Actually, maybe she could even keep some to carve later. That was an activity she had never done before so it'd be interesting. Was she worried that taking the pumpkins was considered stealing from the royal family? Nope. There were guards complaining nearby about all the pumpkins, and there were also others going around collecting some. Those flyers must have really gotten around. There was something else though. As Samira knelt down and picked up the nearest pumpkin she could over hear some of the others around whispering and talking amongst each other. They were worried. Something didn't feel right about the new pumpkin patch and, as if they were in some Halloween story, the surrounding area had shifted from its normal atmosphere into a more eerie version the moment those pumpkins appeared. The sky was cloudy and darkened, and the sounds of crows were all over the place. The number of birds had seemed to increase throughout the day, even in that short amount of time that Samira was there. It wasn't long before there was talk of others being attacked by the crows at various other points along the castle grounds. It was only a matter of time before the ones where she was did the same.

The pumpkin was set down, slowly. More so because she didn't want to damage the pumpkin. The slower movement to not agitate the birds was just a bonus. It was a futile effort though. Some random person ran up to some of them and screamed, intending to scare them off but it backfired severely. The birds took flight as an angry black swarm and started to descend on those in their sights. Samira herself was safe from the murder of crows. They met her natural barrier that had activated once they got close. Like a bird that hit a window, the birds that hit her invisible barrier fell to the ground. Some with broken necks and quite dead, others still alive but barely. Not for long though. The ones still alive on the ground and those still in flight that had labeled themselves as a danger were taken care of with ease. They were, after all, just simple birds with most of their danger being in the basket of quantity.

A portal that was like a celestial gate but different than normal ones appeared in the air above that particular pumpkin patch. Its multi-colored glow was a bright contrast against the darkened sky, yet it wasn't exactly the portal itself that would be doing the work of ridding the grounds of the menacing birds. Its power, at that moment, allowed all of Samira's spirits to enter the normal plane of existence for a single instant. This allowed them to strike the birds and clear the entire area before disappearing. The corpses of the fallen birds littered the ground now along with the pumpkins, making for a fitting color scheme of black and orange for the Halloween time of year. The celestial gate remained hovering in the air, however. Things still seemed a bit off, and it was doubtful that every single crow had been eliminated from the grounds. As a just in case measure, the spell would remain until she moved on. Which should have been right then, but... distractions. Samira healed a couple of people that had been injured from the attack and then went back to looking at pumpkins. Everyone else had ditched the area to escape the chaos, but not the distracted summoner that really wanted some pumpkins to carve and send off to that Halloween event that needed them.

Her original pumpkin had been lost while she healed the injured, but another one that seemed just as good had been located. She picked it up and looked it over a bit. During this time the corpses of the birds started to move towards each other and then combine to create another sort of creature. More horrifying and more dangerous than any normal crow could ever be. The newly chilled air was a give away that something was going on behind her, and the ghastly wail the creature emitted was another. It had spotted a seemingly distracted and helpless target, and with that factor going through its undead mind the creature charged with lethal intent. A few slashes of its talons and it'd all be over and it could move on to torture other innocents in the area. A good plan, but a faulty one. The moment it got too close to Samira the creature came to a stop. Not because of a barrier like its lesser forms, but because a spell had been used to make it stop. The creature flicked partially into a different reality to immobilize it, although it was still very much there and alert to everything going on in the normal one. "Do you think this is a good pumpkin for carving?" The Wizard Saint turned and asked the creature with an expression that told it she was very serious with the question. What? She had never carved a  pumpkin before much less picked one out. Was any pumpkin good for that? Or was there a trick for picking out a ripe one? Did the shape matter? It was all so confusing without having researched it beforehand, and she wanted it to be the perfect pumpkin. The creature made some sort of sound that was mixed with confusion and rage. Or she guessed. Samira didn't really know. She just knew that didn't translate to an answer she liked. The woman became disappointed and dropped the pumpkin. "No, I suppose that is not a good enough pumpkin. There has to be one here somewhere." Her emerald colored eyes glanced around the pumpkin patch, and then, a brilliant idea vanquished the disappointment and brought the gleam back into them. "Maybe Leona or Ruvel will know how to pick the perfect pumpkin!" She smiled and gave the crow creature a nod of appreciation. "You have my thanks for trying to help."

And so Samira began to walk away, leaving the monster there. More confusion was on the creature's mind, and all ways of expressing "wtf" was on the face that should have been quite expressionless for the sort of creature that it was. The spell that had kept it immobilized had even been removed! Well, it would show that lady a thing or two for...for... mocking it... or  something. It really only expected very few reactions: scream, run, or fight. Being thanked for help it didn't even give was not on that list of things that it comprehended. There had been some damage inflicted from the immobilization spell, but it wasn't done for. Not even close. That was easily shaken off. A shame the creature didn't take into account that if it could be immobilized that easily that eliminating it completely would be even easier. Predicted as a possible outcome, even. As it lunged forward with its talons ready to meet their mark, the creature was sliced repeatedly by a pair of chakrams that whirled around Samira. They had been summoned a second before, and were released to act on the attacker. There really wasn't much left after that but a feathery corpse of a monster that shouldn't have even existed. Something was very strange with those crows and it wasn't likely the end of it either. Something more powerful was the mastermind. Samira hoped her two friends were fine, but given that they too were powerful mages in their own right, she was sure her worries were misplaced. They just needed to be found first, and warned if they had not yet encountered the oddities of the royal castle pumpkin patch.

The blonde haired youth continued running forward almost stumbling and falling over his own feet as he tried to find his friends in the commotion. It didn't exactly help that he was running one way when there where a lot of people running in the opposite direction due to the large murder that seemed to have gathered above and around the royal castle. He had delt with a small number of the birds before he had started running but as he got closer it seemed he had only really dealt with the tip of the iceberg, that honestly wasn't a good thing. He had continued to run but lost his balance for a short moment his hand touching the floor to stable himself but even then he hadn't stopped running. 'Our summoner slow down, you can not see and will end up falling doing damage to yourself.' Amuul warned his young ward who could only shake his head "I don't think there's time for my disabilities to be taken into consideration Amuul but thank you for the concern." he said back to the younger of the two crowned princes. He wasn't so worried about his fellow wizard saints because if they were taken down by things here then they really didn't deserve their titles.

As he continued to run forward he found himself being dragged back suddenly, as he hadn't expected it he landed hard onto the ground making him wince "Amuul?" he called out slowly trying to get to his feet. Now standing seperate from Ruvel there was a 6'3" tall, seemingly lithe in built male. He had albino skin and long white hair tied to the left, deep indigo eyes. The male was wearing a semi loose black and carmine red hanfu robe with a long sleeveless crimson hatori, at his back a straight sword with a white tassel would be seen. The hanfu had tares on the sleeve, chest and back from were what seemed like a living scarecrow wielding a scythe had swung to attack Ruvel 'It seems you and your companions have upset this enemy by destroying the murder.' he sent to the youth, his hand grabbing his sword and dashing forward to start the encounter with the current enemy; if it hadn't been for the fact he needed to make sure Ruvel wasn't damaged he wouldn't have been harmed the first time. 'You and I will need to have a conversation about rushing into situations you can't see.' he scolded the other jumping and landing on the flat of the enemies scythe as he began to swing it with little effort 'Scythes are very slow.' he sent to the enemy as he started to strike the enemy a few times before he was forced off skidding back a few paces his hand going onto the floor as he tried to slow himself and got ready for another attack forward. He had kept an eye on the where abouts of Ruvel to make sure he wasn't under attack of another enemy and noticed the youth had made it back to his feet, the charms from when he had dealt with a small amount of the murder still around him, his hands going forward instructing them to aim in the direction he felt Amuul knowing that was the direction of the current enemy.

Soon the enemy would be surrounded by the black charms, he knew these weakened and soon he heard the angry cry as they started to attack the enemy. With a few swipes of the enemies scythe the charms had been destroyed but he knew they would be back shortly. As this was however happening Ruvel had swipped his hand in front of him an complex glowing pink circle appearing in the area six or seven different types of petals appearing in the area, each one that landed or touched Mr. Scarecrow dealing damage. He wasn't about to play about when he knew that the darkness he was feeling was becoming stronger and stronger and that the area was filled with innocent people wanting to go on the haunted tour to pick pumpkins for the carving competition later. The petals on the other hand if they touched innocent people or his allies would heal them for some damage that they might have gained from the mass of deadly, aggressive crows. He looked up to the sky and a golden light would be able to be seen by any who were paying attention and shot down hitting any enemy within range binding it while dealing damage. Mr. Scarecrow who was trying to get rid of the petals didn't see it coming and soon found himself bound the petals continuing to fall cutting the stitching the straw becoming loose, before long there was a semi loud clang as the scythe landed on the straw on the ground. "This was a bad idea." he sighed walking forward still trying to find his companions hoping they were alright, this was suppose to be a fun day out during this festive time but it was turning into a nightmare.

Amuul smiled a little seeing that his summoner had become stronger since when the contract had first been made moved back into Ruvel's shadow to heal up from being in the light. It was a racial weakness for everyone outside his cousin Oykai's cast but he would put his own life on the line to protect Ruvel, this was was the contract he made and fought to keep even when his true skills seemed to have changed from what was forced on him so he could survive. 'Your fellow summoner and the warrior maiden are nearby; there is at least one more enemy before things should calm down.' he informed Ruvel who nodded and started to move forward this time not running in case he ended up being the one that bumped into the last enemy "Leona! Samira!" he called out without thinking, it would have been the first time that he would have called the pair by their given names and not their surnames, Amuul took note and passed it on to the others that Ruvel was slowly growing in comfort with some people, the progress was slow but this was proof that his past could be forgotten in time and with the right people he could make connections with.

Leona's distress over the state of her outfit was palpable. She dreaded what the tabloids and social media would say about her walking around with a mildly torn skirt. However, she soon had bigger problems to worry about because when she turned around a bulky shadow thing was waiting for her with murder on its mind. Leona shrieked before it thrust its arms forward and she instinctively ducked under them. The shoulders of her outfit were ripped as the sharp fingernails gouged her flesh, but Leona was still able to fight.

She rushed towards the creature and hit it with a jump kick to the chest that staggered it. It regained its footing and thrust its arms towards her again, grazing her sides and tearing more of her outfit. Leona pressed onward and closed with it. When she got within punching distance she stopped and used her Hurricane Punch spell to hammer it with twelve rapid punches before it could react. The beast shrugged off the attack and slashed at her with the claws on its right hand extended.

Leona ducked under it and hit back with a Mach Uppercut to the chin, which only made it laugh. Leona quickly put the index and middle fingers of her right hand together and channeled magic until they glowed silver, then slashed across its broad chest with her Silver Blade spell. The silver afterimage left by the spell faded and a large gash appeared, causing it to stagger back and cede ground to the angry blonde whose outfit it was ruining.

The Wizard Saint closed with it a third time and ducked under its wild slashes, hitting back with a Mach Uppercut followed by a point-blank Silver Tempest. The silver horizontal tornado caught the beast in the chest and it roared as it fell back into a pile of inky shadowy substance that made up the crows. The substance sat on the ground for a few moments and began to bubble like the contents of a witch's cauldron before disappearing completely. Leona breathed a sigh of relief and began to lament the latest damage to the outfit that Ruvel had given her. Some cosmic entity did not want her to get through this festival with her outfit intact.

Leona paused when she heard the rustling of grass followed by a soft WHOOSH sound. Leona turned around and found a scythe-wielding scarecrow in tattered overalls and a straw hat facing her with a deranged smile on its face and its body posed in a battle-ready gesture. It laughed before charging at her with a frightening speed and coordination that gave the Wizard Saint pause.

The scarecrow began swinging its scythe without much finesse, but with the sheer force behind each swing of the scythe, it did not need to look pretty in order to hurt someone. Leona began stepping back and dodging diagonal swings of the blade until the ambulatory strawman brought his weapon across in a powerful horizontal swing. The glimmering blade cut Leona's outfit across the midriff and almost cut it completely off.

Leona brought her fingers up and fired a Silver Tempest that hit the scarecrow in the chest and knocked it back just long enough for her to take the offensive. The Wizard Saint closed with it and led off with a Mach Straight to the face, which it laughed off. It slapped Leona across the face with its left hand and knocked her back a few steps, giving it an opening to wield its deadly scythe. The scarecrow sprung forward and delivered a powerful horizontal slash that finished cutting the midriff of Leona's outfit away and giving a deep cut to her stomach.

Leona clutched her stomach with her left hand to stop the expected bleeding but did not feel the warm trickle of blood. The enemy laughed and ran at her again. Leona stood her ground and prepared a Silver Blade spell, then used it when it made a diagonal swing. She cut deep into its left arm and took a cut that split the remaining sleeve of her left arm and gave her yet another bloodless gash that should have been bleeding profusely. The blonde, realizing that keeping away give it room to use its weapon, decided to stay in its face until it died or she did.

Leona started off with a Hurricane Punch that connected with all twelve punches, staggering it momentarily. She followed with a two-handed smash to the back that made it double over, then followed that forceful blow with a Sky Hammer ax kick to the back of its head that knocked it into the ground, making it drop its scythe. The angry blonde picked up the scythe and took it into her hands, then brought the blade down in a decapitating swing that finished the prone opponent as it pushed itself up to continue the fight. It lost its driving force and turned into a normal scarecrow... minus its head.

Having dealt with the sinister strawman in a fitting manner, Leona dropped the scythe and listened for Ruvel's voice, which she swore she had just heard. He and another strong magic signature were somewhere nearby, but she did not know which direction to start going in because the two signatures were in opposite directions. She also did not want Ruvel to see her in her tattered outfit because it was too embarrassing for her to be seen like this. Leona decided to just stay in place until she could get over the embarrassment and pick a direction to go in.

Post by Samira Nassar 7th November 2019, 1:33 am

Samira stopped walking and turned, hearing her name being called for as well as Leona's. The one calling her was recognizable since it sounded a lot like Ruvel's. The problematic part of it was that it was just plain "Samira" being used, which would have been a first for the blonde headed youth. "Ruvel?" She questioningly said aloud to herself but not shouting it to the point that anyone else could hear. It could have been a trick that was being used by something else just as malevolent as the undead crow creature, but that would just be silly. No one knew that she was there to meet Ruvel and Leona, so unless something around there had the most godly mind reading abilities to get past the guardians in her head it was the real one calling out for the two women. There was only one way to be sure though, and that was to go over towards the voice to check it out and confirm. If It were a trick whatever it was, was going to be punished for mimicking a friend, and by extension possibly endangering Leona if she too were nearby and followed the voice. To make matters worse Samira had been keeping an eye on all of the pumpkins she had passed and still the perfect one had not been found. Her mood was starting to sour now. A good day was turning into quite the opposite.

A few steps had been taken in the direction of the voice, and in those few steps the air began to fog up. The more she walked the more dense the fog grew and the darker it got until she could not see much of anything. Was she even still on the castle grounds she wondered. A spark of light stood out in the dark and thick fog, and it grew brighter as it got closer. Not so much due to Samira moving towards it but because it was moving towards her. Slowly at first and then it rapidly picked up speed.

Samira braced herself. Whatever it was, was unknown and her own natural mobility was a bit slower than others without magic boosting it. The most she could do in that time frame was attack preemptively or defend. The chakrams she had been holding were dropped as she moved her hands defensively in front of her and activated a defensive shield around her. The lantern's light diminished slightly when a blast of dark energy was released from the incoming source and made its way over to the summoner. The dark magic hit the barrier, but the energy kept coming, pushing her back ever so slowly and threatening to pop her defensive spell. To prevent that outcome, or at the very least attempt to stall it, Samira used another spell in her toolkit. Her barrier had become covered in a pale blue light that strengthened and it quite a bit. Another important factor to the empowerment was that the dark energy blast that touched it made the blue overlay react offensively, and thus shockwaves of celestial energy flew from it and over in the direction of the attacker. Samira could hear the sounds of impact and could see the lantern light tumble around as whatever held it recovered from the hit. The dark blasts had also stopped momentarily, allowing the woman to catch a quick moment of relief and time to think of what to do next.

It was a moment that was wasted unfortunately. The same distraction from earlier was still on her mind, and as the enemy came closer to fully reveal itself that distraction became the primary focus. The fact she was staring at something deadly that could harm others, including herself, was an after thought. What she saw as it came closer was not some terrifying specter with a spooky pumpkin head, dark powerful magic, or long claws that dripped with deadly poison. What she saw was a pumpkin that must have been created and delivered by the truest of gods. Even the lantern's light somehow twisted into some heavenly divine aura in her imagination, and the cackling of the creature was the song of angels, singing to prove that the pumpkin was surely blessed. Very few were worthy to be in the presence of such perfection. "I found it," Samira told herself as she stared in awe of the perfect pumpkin hovering in the air. There was just one problem as reality sat back in for her, mostly because of all the yelling in her head coming from quite a few eyerolling and facepalming spirits. They were so close to having a day off. So close. Movie night was ruined. Disregarding the frustrated spirits, the problem was the perfect pumpkin was already owned and attached to a monster. Disappointing. But! There was a solution! Besides ripping it off and taking it for herself, of course. Now that was just rude. She'd ask first.

The same spell that had been used against the large crow creature was used once more as the pumpkin came in for round two, this time thinking a melee style approach with its rapid claw swipes would do the trick. It wouldn't have either way, but Samira wasn't going to comment on that. The celestial energy that banished the creature partially to immobilize it was enough. It wouldn't last for long though, unlike with the crow. The current enemy was much stronger than it.

"Excuse me," Samira politely said to get its attention through its ranting. Apparently, from what she could gather from its words, she was dealing with a Pumpkin Patch King, possibly one of many for there surely were a lot of pumpkin patches. That explained why everything was happening at the Royal Castle. He had wanted to take it over and claim it all for himself. Only the most royal of places were fit for a pumpkin patch created by royalty. "You have my apologies, your majesty, but you left me with no choice but to act in this manner. It is very difficult to ask you a question when you are attacking me."

The dark eye sockets moved quite easily like a normal face, despite them all being on an actual pumpkin. Just like with the Crow Lord, the pumpkin creature was confused. Once again in a scenario where most people would have either fled or tried to eliminate the threat, Samira was once again taking the time to ask a question. And, just like the Crow Lord, the Pumpkin Patch King was offended. He was a terrifying king! A royal among all produce farms and patches! "What?"

Samira stared up at the king, for he was taller than herself, yet the expression on her face was serious enough to say that as far as everything else went, she was the more dominant in prowess. That or she was just too stupid to be afraid or acknowledge the possible danger. The Pumpkin King couldn't really tell. "The pumpkin you use for a head. It is perfect. I desire to know how to find one for myself. I was going to ask my friends, but I found you first, and surely you must know the answer as a Pumpkin Patch King. Please tell me."

If the pumpkin king could move he might have faceplanted down onto the ground after hearing that ridiculous question. He decided. The woman was stupid. "There is only one perfect pumpkin on this entire patch!"

"Oh...." Samira was disappointed for a moment as she looked down and away, but a thought occurred to her. One that was mostly likely a negative, but she would try and ask anyway. "Can I have yours?" She asked innocently, despite knowing full well what the perfect pumpkin was currently being used for.

The eyeslots on the pumpkin widened in disbelief and then went into angry eye mode. "WHAT?! NO! It is my head!"

"I can carve you another face on one of these other pumpkins."

The king flailed, the magic keeping him in place starting to weaken during his growing agitation and anger. Now he was just being insulted. "Those are not perfect! They will even rot while I use them for my head!"

Samira gasped. The perfect pumpkin did not rot? It was even more perfect! An everlasting pumpkin to forever treasure her first pumpkin carving experiment! Well, second if she could convince the king to take one of the other pumpkins so she could have his, but it didn't seem as if he was going to be generous and accept that horrible trade. One might wonder how she intended to carve on the perfect pumpkin that already had a face on it, and the answer was simple. It had another side that was entirely blank and ready to work with! A double faced pumpkin! How spooky! Or she could just use it as a model while she worked with a practice pumpkin. It would work out somehow. "I see. Then I have to ask, if you attacked me, does this mean that you intend to do harm to anyone else here?"

"You said you were going to ask 'A' question. You are asking too many! Now release me!"

"I require an answer before I stop asking more questions. Answer it, and the conversation will end."

The Pumpkin Patch King answered, but unfortunately it was not the correct answer. Harm would come towards those that lived in the castle or came upon the grounds. In more ways than one. An army of pumpkin soldiers and other horrors would also be created if he were left alone. Chances were, the pumpkin monster was smart enough to lie to that question, but he was now frustrated by having to deal with someone like Samira. He almost wished that another had killed him before the interaction even took place. Ridiculous woman! The Pumpkin King realized his error a few moments after his rant and threats.

The woman was silent now. Her stupid questions and words really did stop. But there was something else now. A rise in magic energy that was not his own could now be felt. The magical gate above he had noticed earlier. It had not yet been dismissed, but now another portal gate was beside it. From that gate multiple bright and powerful magic particles flew through and aimed towards the Pumpkin King. One by one they hit, and even as the immobilization spell broke to allow him to flee and dodge, it was not enough for there were too many, and all of them faster than he. At the end of the assault, he was destroyed entirely, except for one thing: the pumpkin head that now lied on the ground.

The fog cleared up and for the most part the dark horrors that had invaded the castle seemed to be gone. All that was left were the numerous pumpkins. They could be collected later for the party, of course. For now, Samira walked up to her prize, picked it up, and raised it above her head as if showing it off to the world. "It is mine!" The perfect pumpkin had been acquired. May some divinity have mercy on the soul that attempted to take it from her or destroy it.

What the hell? Are we really that cursed?

Ruvel continued running towards the castle, he had no idea what he was going to come across and that in itself distressed him. He had came across a killer murder of crows and a homicidal scarecrow inside a magical pumpkin patch surrounding the royal castle. Someone had some explaining to do because it seemed as if they couldn't control their magic, then again there were alternitive situations he supposed. The first being that the person could indeed control their magic but due to the time of year it went a bit wonky, in honesty it wouldn't be the first time he had seen that happening. From what he had seen it often happened with nature mages during spring as they were more connected to the season, in summer it was fire mages, autumn spirit and death mages and winter, well, that like spring spoke for itself. The last alternitive is someone didn't do their due dilegence and hired a dark mage who decided to cause chaos because well, even blind he could see that was something that a dark mage would do for jollies. He was just hoping it wasn't Cirven because this would be right up his ally for a practical joke since falling to the darkened path. He missed his elder adoptive brother and hoped that one day he would return home, problem was he was unsure if to much damage had already been done. He could hold out hope however because Sol had been a dark mage for the longest time from what he had been told, he had run from his previous guild family and joined his, since then he had been working hard to change his apperance in the light of the world. He had to admit he was more than a little cautious even now as if someone has fallen from grace once, they could be lured by the siren song once again and this time he wouldn't just he him falling but everyone who worked for the West Fiore Trading Company. Still they had a way to allow him to let his darker urges out while keeping everything else safe and for now it was working, so at least that was a blessing that gave him hope for Cirven.

He could hear the fighting happening around him, the palace guards trying to get innocent civilians out of harms way. Children were screaming and crying, adults were no better but at the same time they were confused, some of them having being separated in the chaos. This had to end and quickly, he wanted to know how the hell could something like this happen in one of the most heavily defended places in Ishgar. He just wanted one day, just one measly day were he could do something like a normal person with some friends. Go on a haunted castle tour, half some lunch, pick a pumpkin, carve it and put it out to ward off dark spirits before going to evening festivities with said friends. Yeah right, like that was happening, every time these three were together something went wrong. He was just waiting for the day that their was an oversized grilled cheese sandwich made by one of them to fight. He honestly wished he was joking about that but after hearing the fact that Sol had beat up a living vending machine and what he had just fought he wasn't putting anything out of the realm of posibility at the current time. He could hear those who weren't trying to get people out of the castle fighting trying to buy some time, it was admirable but at the end of the day rather foolish if you asked the teenager. Birds were very smart and cunning, add this with how fast they could move and a guard with a sword didn't stand a chance, spears were slow and if you threw it like a javalin well you just got rid of your weapon. No, the best thing they could do right now was get out of the way of the enemies and let mages handle that situation while they got civilians inside to safety. "Amuul, tell the guards to stop fighting and just get the innocents inside." he said to the younger of the two void princes 'Yes my summoner.' He said to Ruvel before letting the guards know what to do and who had requested them doing so. With some hesitation they stopped fighting and done as was requested of them.

'I know it is hard for them not to defend their home since they have family here, but, if they continued they themselves would get hurt or worse and become a target for those enemies and a hinderence to myself and the others that can. This is what is best for them, their families, their neighbours and for us.' he thought to himself trying to strengthen his resolution as to why he had done it. This was why he had done it obviously but since the attack that took his eyes he had been second guessing himself though it never showed externally. It would do no one any good he thought, especially him. 'The warrior maiden is near my summoner.' Amuul stated as they got closer to Leona the younger of the twin summons could only sigh seeing her clothing. 'Her clothing is ruined once again, I will gain new garments for her since it has settled a little, remain on guard however.' Amuul sent to Ruvel who only nodded stopping at Leona's side "Ever get the feeling we're cursed?" he asked the blonde haired woman. He doubted that they were done, this was likely just an appetiser for whatever else had been unleased for mischief night, there were still crows but they were being put down quickly. A box appeared in his hand as he was instructed to lift them "Amuul tells me your clothing got ripped Leona, please take this as a replacement. I doubt your clothing at current could take to much more damage, if what Amuul says is correct." he offered her with a smile "The fabric I used in this case is from Celestia from what I was told when I was gifted it. It is light as a feather, more durable than steel and will self repair." he informed her as he moved his head to the right hearing his name being called and waved "Hello Samira, it's complete insanity here isn't it." he called out to her. 'She has a pumpkin with her, don't ask where she got it from as you won't like the answer.' Amuul informed the young blonde who could only blink under his blindfold. "You got a prize from what I've been told." he tried to smile but the fact he had been told he wouldn't like the answer of where she got it had him conflicted on wither or not he wanted to remain ignorant or not. He waited until the three were together fully before he asked the question "Should we go further into the castle?" He had a bad feeling at the pit of his stomach of what they might find but they did have an obligation to keep the citizens of Ishgar safe, it came with the titles they took from the magic council as wizard saints after all.

Leona had defeated the scythe-wielding scarecrow and was out of physical danger, but now she had to find a way out of social danger. Her clothing had taken quite the beating during the battle against the scythe-wielding strawman and now she needed to find a way to cover herself. The back of her skirt was cut and the midriff to her outfit had been cut away, leaving the blonde far more exposed than she would have liked to be. Unfortunately she had not brought a spare outfit with her and did not know where to get one on the fly... except from Ruvel. The shorter blond guy had given Leona her blue-and-white outfit, the same one that she was now wearing the remnants of.

Leona did not want to be seen like this, but the choice was out of her hands because a short blond fellow in the company of a well-dressed man soon appeared and began to approach her. Leona panicked when she saw who the short fellow was. It was Ruvel Mizune!

Leona then blushed when she heard the man Ruvel was with discussing the state of her clothing, which caused the blonde to blush with the intensity of a thousand burning suns. It was too late to hide now. At least the front of her skirt had not been damaged and her chest was still covered, so as long as she faced him neither Ruvel nor his escort would see her backside. As long as Samira did not see her like this everything would be OK. The Wizard Saint would just have to hope that Ruvel could pull a miracle out of his hat and supply her with a new outfit on very short notice.

The God of Ishgar suddenly produced a box of clothing that materialized in his hands. However, this was no ordinary clothing. It was made of a special fabric from somewhere called Celestia and was touted as being "...light as a feather, more durable than steel and will self repair." Leona did not know where Celestia was or how they had made the special fabric, but she was not going to look a gift horse in the mouth. She needed his help now.

"Thanks for the gift, Ruvel. You and your friend are lifesavers! I'll be right back!" Leona thanked Ruvel and his summon Amuul before taking the box and hurrying off to the nearest thicket of bushes to hurriedly change before she was spotted by anyone else. The Wizard Saint located one about one hundred meters away and made the sprint in record time, ducking behind the bushes and opening the box to find a blue-and-white outfit that was exactly the same as the one she was currently wearing. Leona carefully removed her torn garments and slipped on the new outfit in about five minutes. Putting the torn outfit in the box, Leona strolled out from behind the bushes and rejoined Ruvel and Amuul.

Wearing the new outfit made Leona feel like a million Jewels. She was glad that Ruvel had come across the miracle fabric because it was perfectly suited to the blonde's adventurous lifestyle. Having clothing that was tough and self-repairing would save her a fortune in replacement clothing, not to mention saving her a fortune in Jewels. This was the second time that he had saved her from embarrassment thanks to the timely gift of new clothing.

"Thanks, Ruvel." Leona thanked the God of Ishgar for saving her bacon for the second time. Before she went to change she recalled that he posited that he, Leona and Samira were somehow cursed. She was inclined to agree.

"I'm starting to think we're cursed too. Lately it seems like my clothing doesn't seem to survive the jobs I go on. We also tend to end up in a lot of strange situations... well, ones stranger than normal." Leona agreed with her colleague's assessment of their luck lately. The blonde had fought pumpkin beasts, an evil Santa Claus and his evil army, people wanting to steal candy, and now pumpkins and scarecrows with scythes. However, when Ruvel, Leona, and Samira worked together, things tended to get even stranger than usual. Maybe Wizard Saints and Gods/Goddesses of Ishgar tended to attract the weird things in the world.
