The autumn had returned to the island nation of Tolgalen, the warm summer breeze and the long days giving way to the gradually colder and shorter hours of light that defined the season. The air, especially closer to the coastal regions of the nation, had already become fairly temperate, Artorias, clad in the white uniform of the West Fiore Trading Company, thus placing more wood in the fireplace of his master's office, the flames flaring up slightly as the fire was fueled. Johann von Weiss, Vice President of the West Fiore Trading Company, was sitting at his desk, a cup of steaming, crimson liquid in a cup beside him, his eyes wandering across the fine black lines on the piece of paper before him. Despite the change the formerly old man had undergone thanks to Mars, the enigmatic, seemingly vastly powerful being that had merged with him and his soul, his very being, changing appearance, personality, even magic to the point Johann hadn't been sure if he was even still himself, the Vice President still found himself at his desk every single day, working through the plethora of paperwork thrown at him by all administrative layers of the Trading Company, especially his Guildmaster and the other Vice Presidents who, safe for Sol Terumi, took every opportunity to load off their paperwork onto the silver haired male. So it had happened that today as well, he was working again, reading through the last week's shipping registers and comparing it to the inventory lists to make sure everything had been handled, stored and delivered correctly, a most basic and repetitive work, boring in any case, though necessary and important nonetheless. "Is all of this really necessary ?", the silver haired male spoke more to himself than anyone else, though Artorias, the magical beast and falcon turned human and good friend of the von Weiss family, countering the sudden break to the silence with his own question "What do you mean, my Lord ?". Johann sighed. "You know, don't we have a clerical department for these tasks exactly ? Why do I have to keep doing this, Arty ?", Artorias responding with a confused look. Of course, the old Johann would've done his work conscientiously and without comment while, well, the "new" one would question this practice. Naturally, he believed himself and his time too valuable to be wasted with such basic things, especially when everyone else seemed to have made it their habit, no, their self proclaimed duty to give the Vice President as much work as humanly possible, many sleepless nights spent with the most degrading of tasks that came down to even stamping forms, work fit for an intern, not one of the higher up's.

"If- If you want I can arrange for someone else to work on the shipping reports, my Lord ?", the Knight gave back, giving his master a curious look, the amber coloured orbs in his eyes shining in their usual, dim glow. "Well, that'd be a start. Wanna go and grab something to eat from the mess hall ?", Jo asked his advisor with questioning undertone, leaning back in his chair. Evidently, one of the aspects that the silver haired Vice President of the West Fiore Trading Company had retained was his somewhat extraordinary appetite. "If that is what you desire, Lord", the male with the charcoal hair gave back, stepping away from the fireplace and towards the door, the small metal pin on his chest reflecting the flickering flames, giving it a subtle red and orange glow. Johann gave him a sharp look with his scarlet left and ashen right eye. Another thing that hadn't changed was his disdain for the terminology the Knight used, commenting swiftly "Arty, for the last time: I am no Lord. Not after all that has happened. Will you stop calling me that ?", the hint of a smirk lifting up one corner of Artorias' mouth, a determined "Nope" and a smile coming from the magical beast before he opened the door, the VP rising from his chair with another sigh.

While Johann enjoyed a hearty and, perhaps more importantly, large lunch, he, with somewhat vague and perhaps confusing instructions, sent Artorias to the WFTC's request board. While the guild did not operate quite like other official guilds, the Company employed a vast number of mages who, of course, did not want to miss the experience that other guilds offered, and so had their own job board as well. Jo of course being one of the more, well, "eccentric" members of the West Fiore Trading Company, prefered jobs suited for him, and thusly had told his companion to pick a job that was "out of the ordinary". With his current skills and abilities the Vice President was confident he could take on anything that was posted at the job board currently (even if he would have to sacrifice a perfectly clean and meticulously well kept uniform in the process), unknowing what sort of trip he would end up undertaking. Of course, Artorias wouldn't think about disregarding his Lord's word, and thus, with careful consideration, ripped the craziest contract he could find from the board only to present in to his master who had just finished his food, a mission crazy enough that it would provide just the right kind of amusement for not just Jo, but also Mars. "An Escort mission to where ?", "Sin, my lord.", "THAT Sin ?", "As far as I know there is only one place with that name.", Johann's expression immediately changing into a broad, toothy grin, a different, altered voice speaking from his mouth, deep, distorted almost, the excitement barely held back "Good. Count me in".

Getting ready and setting out for the contract immediately, Jo was only now filled in on the details, finding out that the only way into Sin from land was from Pergrande, through the great border wall they had built to keep out the monster invasions, and that, as it stood, Pergrande wasn't exactly on good terms with the community of magi across Earthland, meaning that the only other option they had, they as in the tourists that were to be escorted, what drove them was entirely beyond the Vice President, would be to enter the country from the sea. With the West Fiore Trading Company being a somewhat considerable naval power that would be no issue, though he had heard stories about the sea creatures around the forsaken country of Sin and knew that shipping routes were practically non existent. Just in case Jo would mobilize one of the Company's Warships to take it to Hargeon, where the group of clients would be waiting. A good bit of travel and a few days later, Johann and Artorias would find themselves in the port city, stepping off the ships and down the docks to the scheduled place. They were hard to miss. A bickering and gaggling group of men and women that was painfully obvious by the side of the road, perhaps a good 15 people, at the entrance to the docks. What exactly would drive them to Sin ? He had no idea. Whether it was the excitement, the adrenaline, or simply overwhelming curiosity, he didn't care. The pay was good and the mission seemed like a challenge. "My my", the VP clapped his hands "I didn't expect so many people. Welcome, ladies and gentlemen. I am Johann von Weiss, the Vice President of the West Fiore Trading Company. I will be the one providing the escort you have requested. If there are no further preparations to make I'd like you to-", interrupted by an elderly woman with grey hair, probably in her fifties or so, a camera swung around her shoulders "What about the other ones ?", Johann immediately turning his head "The other ones ?", asking with confused tone "The other mages, of course"
. Huh ? What was that ? The other mages ? He had no idea what the woman was talking about, but he would certainly find out soon.

Sorano Granon eyed the mug with obvious suspicion, dark eyes glinting with caution as they traced the path of the steam that wavered tentatively into the air, water molecules gliding up to join the rest of the gaseous elements that surrounded them all. She could feel the heat of the liquid from here, a gentle but persistent wave of higher temperature that brought a faint sheen of sweat to the girl’s pale face, keeping her otherwise twitching fingers from making the connection of skin to cup. A nervous tap of her finger against the porcelain resulted in a faint hiss, the girl jerking the limb backwards as fast as possible, instantly cooling the injured skin by sticking her finger into her mouth. Yes, indeed…the latest problem the guild master of Fairy Tail faced today would be the unfortunate disaster that came with liquids set at the most distasteful temperatures – in this case, really fucking hot tea.

But Oh! you say, Is she not a mage? Can she not magically change the temperature of the tea to just the right amount?

Ah, but see here, such an act requires great effort to perform, great effort and detail for a letter mage that Sorano Granon quite frankly could not be fucked to go through at the moment, for all she had desired was a simple cup of tea to soothe her headache from reading so many itty bitty words on so many itty bitty pieces of paper. Why people couldn’t use a larger, or more legible font was beyond her understanding – it was a blessing the documents were not handwritten, she supposed, but the youth was not in a particularly thankful state of mind today. Even a child void of emotions could feel some slight memory of irritation at the sensation of a reading-induced headache, coming down strong.

Giving up on attempting to lift the treacherously scorching mug to her lips, the letter mage instead slumped exhaustedly down onto her arms on the desk, dull eyes tracing the magically imprinted design on the side of the container. Today was not a very good day for her, and it would appear that not even the usual cure to her impatience of a nice, warm cup of tea was not forthcoming. In an act of unusual desperation, Sorano carefully leaned forward, extending her tongue cautiously towards the liquid, and promptly felt the painful burst of heat that instantly enveloped the unfortunate body part in what felt like the flames of hell. Alright, she got the message. The letter mage pushed back her chair, abandoning her quest for tea in pursuit of some other hopeful cure for mental exhaustion – perhaps some fresh air would help?

The indoor garden in the guild hall would be easily accessible by the balcony on the second floor that looked down into the small, contained, but still lush and beautiful enclosure that housed a humble greenhouse for guild members to rest in and admire for moments such as these. Slowly, Sorano could feel her shoulders relaxing at the gentle scent of lavender filling her nose, giving her that magical cure she had so desperately desired. Thank goodness she’d had the enclosure installed – how else would a girl have gotten through an entire day of more politics and bills? (Seriously though, someone had to control that Althea and her crazy spending tendencies when it came to sugary drinks.)

Or so she thought, before a sudden slight hissing started up from the glass ceiling above her, ominously increasing in volume as the guild master looked up in mute horror. Within her heart, Sorano held onto the hope that the sound was merely a mistake – that what she heard was not the thing she so terribly dreaded at the moment – it wouldn’t happen after that nightmare of a morning she’d had already, would it?? But alas, Lady Luck did not smile down upon the youth today, oh no. Within a matter of seconds, an avalanche of plant-food infused water came raining down on the unfortunate child’s head, drenching her in manure-scented liquid before she could manage to flee to the safety of her office once more. This time she did use her magic, a carefully composed spell drying her clothes and removing the stench from her skin. Whatever had she done now to piss off the gods?

Exiting her office once more to make sure that all the wards were in place to keep the fertilizer from entering the building, Sorano would make her way down to the first floor, having discovered, to her dissatisfaction, that her tea was still rather overheated. With an aura of absolute rage radiating about her expressionless face, the teen beelined for the fridge in the corner of the bar, extracting for herself a box of “Cherry Explosion” juice, rather violently stabbing the convenient plastic straw into its allotted slot. Forget about Althea and her overpriced juice purchases. This was exactly what she needed right now, and expenses were the furthest thing from her mind.

The box was drained in three seconds flat.

With a satisfying crush of cardboard and plastic, the letter mage dropped the crumpled piece of waste into the trash before sweeping up to the reception desk, dark eyes scanning the jobs in an almost frenzied manner. Such behavior was not natural in the typically tranquil woman, known for her ability to keep her cool. But today? Nothing was working out and even the Saint of Tranquility had a breaking point. Without a second thought, the most difficult job would be selected from the board, and Sorano was hefting her bag onto her shoulders, stocking her storage mirrors with ridiculous amounts of juice before stalking out the front door. She was gonna beat up some tough monster and feel much better again, all qhile consuming unhealthy amounts of juice – that was the plan.

Now approaching the group of clients, and having cooled down and looked over the job a bit, Sorano was fairly prepared for what was to come next. Escorting a group of people through the treacherous land of Sin seemed a daunting task, but one the letter mage believed should certainly be achievable. She mentally flipped through what she knew of the place, now starting to berate herself for having made a decision so quickly without prior research – it really was not at all like her to march out on a dangerous job without second thoughts. It could only be hoped that she would not regret her decision later on. Blocked off from the rest of the world by a great big wall, and filled to the brim with terrible monsters – Sin was definitely not the usual choice for an exciting adventure. Perhaps the clients had made as impulsive a decision as she herself had.

Even so, she had to deal with the pit she herself had dug, and with the thought in mind, Sorano approached the group. Scanning over the new and unfamiliar faces, she’d suddenly be hit with a powerful magical signature, the presence of another mage? Ah…had they hired multiple escorts? Sorano’s eyes would alight upon a lithe, white-haired figure, a man who seemed to radiate confidence. Alright then, she could handle working with a partner.

She moved in closer, turning to face the other mage. For some reason, he seemed familiar…was he a famous figure? She didn’t know. It was only the sudden recognition of the man’s uniform that snapped her brain into place, mentally reprimanding herself for not realizing earlier. “Hello sir, are you also a hired escort for this job? My name is Sorano Granon. Pleasure to meet you. I see you are from the West Fiore Trading Company?” She nodded politely in greeting, a sort of awkward half bow. It was difficult to get out of the habit, and the letter mage still found herself constantly slipping back into the familiar movement. Still, it was a relief to see that her partner was not only skilled, but an ally as well. Hopefully this task would go smoothly.

Jobs were typically rather lonely events for Mikka, no matter how many people were on that said job alongside her. Even surrounded by five other people and their associates or companions which was pretty much big as jobs got? The wind user just couldn't feel them there, no matter how much she toyed, spoke or what she did, none of it meant anything. How could someone truly feel the company of another, when part of everything those around them knew was, not exactly the truth. Mikka didn't exactly know what the truth was, but she did know that none of those random job partners could ever know her enough to ease that feeling, because she didn't even know enough about herself to let them. If she could not tell herself who she was? How could she honestly tell the others around her who she was, and feel right when they respected that and called her by that name, a name she had just made up out of the blue years ago.

This mission was different from all the other ones she had taken on in large groups, this one didn't feel lonely, not anymore. Heading out this time? Wasn't a means to end the job sooner and go claim more to drown herself. This time she was actually looking forward to going on this adventure! "Do you have all the muffins you want now?" the blue haired girl playfully swung her hips as she lightly walked forward next to the girl at the counter of the bakery, crooked grin stuck on her face. "A dozen pumpkin cookies, not pumpkin spice the actual pumpkin ones, please." she had to be careful of what she ate, considering enough of the wrong thing could cause her to need to construct another body. However, she was unaware if she had told the white haired girl about that ability yet amongst everything else going on. Mikka didn't want to give her friend the heart attack of watching her 'die' to food poisoning, without knowing she'd be back shortly. Plus, dying in itself was unpleasant and not something she wanted to repeat. Most of the time a new body was just because she chose to do so in order to prevent too much damage being sustained to her form.

Minutes later, the canine was holding a paper bag filled with hot pumpkin cookies to her chest, waiting for them to cool. "Tis Job Is Gonna Be Fun!" just escorting people around on one of the most dangerous place on the planet, nothing could possibly be alarming about that. "We should hurry up though, we may have spent a while in tat shop." the wind mage was blowing into the cookie bag, hoping her treats would cool off quickly. "Please carry these 'Strid, I dn't think reconstructed cookies taste tat good? See you there in a few blinks." she spoke, continuing to walk down the street, handing the treats over to her friend as her body and simply began to dissolve. Once the cookie issue was solved? Mikka would dissolve completely, world going 'black' for a second in her eyes since for a brief moment she really didn't have any eyes and was just another part of the wind around her.

Right beside Johann a mage he had met before suddenly materialized out of black dusk, ears, tail and hair bouncing briefly as she began to levitate there. "Ey Jo~" the wind user spoke in a much less formal tone than the last time he had seen her, though her clothing was just as exposing. "Two of te other's have arrived!" at first for a split second one may think she was talking about the two already present, but she was speaking of herself and her insanely fast friend. Once Astrid popped up? The wind user would be quick to float over next to her and kind of just stay there, hovering three feet in the air so she had some height compared to the people who couldn't float.
