Midnight's D to C-Rank Examinations

As Leonard channels his magical power, Ren would return to consciousness, the dragon becoming docile. Just then, she sees Leonard coming down in a slashing formation, but confused to see he was using the blunt end of his weapon. Nonetheless, she quickly thinks of something. She sends herself out of the dragon, as she tumbles to the ground from exhaustion. Leonard was just about to come in contact with her "dragon". Ren while sending herself back suddenly, in one last attempt. She sends her palms forward, as the dragon retreats to her hands, forming a compressed ball of water, which would also absorb the surrounding water Ren had spilled from her attacks. As she falls over, the compressed ball would be sent forward. Once it comes in contact to the ground, a geyser would explode into the air, sending Ren flying backwards from the pressure as well as the shockwave. She would slam into a nearby tree, letting herself fall to the ground half conscious...

Leonard's attack caught Ren out for a while to think. With the blade coming down, Ren focused all remaining energy she had to stop it from coming down on her one way or another. What she did was blast herself away hitting a tree while creating a geyser. Certainly this girl would go to any extremes and he was pleased to know that. The blade crashed down breaking the ground, shaking it and sending huge chunks of earth around. There was a moment of silence, everything stopped for a while. After which, Leonard unequipped the massive sword and calmed down. But he was panting as it was a tiring battle. He went over to where Ren is lying and looked at her with a fatherly smile. He carried her back to his shack and when they got there, lay her on the bed while Leonard sat on the chair beside it waiting for Ren to wake up. At this point Ren would have passed the exam. He just waited for her to wake so he could tell her that, along with what the test needed from her.

Ren's eyes fluttered open after a while of rest. She slowly sat up, and turned to look at Leonard. Having thought she failed the test, she would begin apologizing and saying that she would try harder next time. She quickly got up and was getting ready to leave. She recalled the events of today. Her attacks seemed to have been well planned, except for that incident with the water dragon. She thought she used too many powerful attacks, thus draining her magic. She looked back at Leo, disappointed in herself that she couldn't impress her guild master. Was she really as strong as he said she was. She didn't really think she was. Just some other mage starting brawls, drinking and causing ruckus in the guild hall like everyone else. But she doesn't want to be like everyone else, she wants.... she needs to be the strongest... for her own reasons...

Leonard laughed at the quickly recovered Ren. "Gone so soon, C-Rank mage? Got done and you're just leaving already?" he said happily as he stood up placing his hand upon her shoulder. "Ren, you're the ones who doesn't cause trouble. You laugh, cry, with your friends in Fairy Tail. Your feelings, your aspirations, your goals makes you stronger. It is the Power of Fairy Tail's feelings. I needed to see how far would you go for it, your resolve. And to sacrifice yourself and give all you've got, that's one hell of a resolve you got there. That was the point of the C-Rank exam, and you passed it. he said wherein he let go of her shoulder the moment he finished talking and gave her a large smile with his eyes closed. Returning back to his normal face he added "You'll grow stronger than this someday. But you need to have values. Anyway, be advised that different exams have different ways to pass. Keep that in mind"

Ren would listen to Leonard as tears of joy would begin to streak down her cheeks. She would look at him for a moment, then quickly launching herself towards him in a hug. She thanks him for his time and tireless efforts to make sure she becomes a strong mage. She lets go of him and looks at him like a daughter would look at her father. "Thank you si-... Leo." Ren would say as she turns towards the door to the shack, making her way back home after a long day of training. Just as the door would close behind her, she would jump into the air in excitement screaming "I'm C-Rank!!!"
