Midnight's D to C-Rank Examinations

Leonard was by the guild when he caught wind of the news. Ren was bout to take her Rank Up exam and as the other guys know, it will be in his shack by the plains just outside of Magnolia. That made him squirt his drink out of his mouth, he really wasn't expecting Ren to rank so fast and because of that, he was impressed. So he hurried back to his place for two reasons, one so that they could start right away, he really didn't want to be late for these kids' exams. And two, because he was pretty excited. Because Leonard doesn't know much about Ren and he really wanted to know the beautiful young lady better. Especially know how far she is willing to go for what she wants. A while past and Leonard got to his shack. He was so tired that he sat on the grass and breathed heavily, panting to say the least. When he caught up with his breath, he looked around and was sound to see Ren wasn't anywhere near yet, that means he is still punctual. So know Leonard sits there on the grass waiting for the Water Dragon Slayer's arrival.

Ren would walk steadily through Magnolia, heading to Leonard's shack. She wondered why he chose a shack as the place for her exam. Did he think she wasn't worth an actual space? Although, it didn't matter, she was happy to actually be able to have a private session with her guild master. She was quite anxious, worried she might fail her Rank Up exam. Ren, of all things, wants to become an S-Rank mage in Fairy Tail. She wants to go down in history as a Slayer of a Dragon. Which is very misleading since she didn't really slay a dragon, But that was a secret right? Anyways, she'd keep going towards her destination, adjust her outfit her and there, tugging at her boots, etc. Eventually, she reaches the shack, catching eye of Leonard, sitting on the ground. She moves over to him, smiling from ear to ear. "Hello Leonard... sir..." She would speak to him unsure of how to address him, never really speaking to him directly, not even when she joined the guild itself. "So, how are you doing today?"

Leonard was having chills on his spine. He had to admit Ren was very beautiful and it would be his first time speaking to her. As Ren came, Leonard saw her fiddling with her outfit I think this is what Heero feels everyday he thought to himself. Finally she got close and what a view it was indeed. She addressed him as Leonard sir or something like that. He was sure Ren didn't know how to speak to him. "So, how are you doing today?" she asked him. Leonard smiled and happily replied "I'm good, thanks for asking. And I hope you are too. Anyway Ren, you can call me just Leo. I may be guild master and all but I'm just another guy drinking down at the hall, so chill out okay? No need to be stiff." he laughed after those words. He took a slight pause and sighed "So you'll be having your Rank Up exam today. And honestly, wasn't expecting it, no offense. But it's good, it's actually impressive. So you're exam would be to..." he cut his own sentence and drew out a large two-handed sword with a burning blade. "...fight me. You ready?" he continued with his blade in hand and on a ready stance.

She looks at him crookedly, but then she hears him laugh it off. She is then caught by surprise when he said that she needed to fight him. She took the sword from him, holding it steady in her hand. She examines the blade on the sword, twisting it from side to side, the sunlight bouncing off of it. "Must I use this sword?" Ren would ask making a sort of pouty face that a young child would make when not getting something they want. "Can I not use my own weapon?" Ren would ask as she sets the sword on the ground while reaching for her kusarigama. She uses one hand to grab the blunt end, and then using the other to hold the sharp end. She spins it around in a circle as she waits for Leonard's answer. She looks around at the landscape, drinking it all in. She doesn't really get to spend time out in nature. She's either training, working or hanging out with friends in taverns and such. Her attention eventually turns back to Leo as she listens to him.

Leonard saw that surprised face as he sees from most of the guys taking the test. Though there was something different from this girl right here. He took his sword and twisted it around looking all disapproving with that pouting face of her's. Though it made Leonard's jaw drop it awe as he thought that Ren looked cuter at that moment. During the time that he saw Ren discard the Burning blade and take out her own large weapon which she spun around, he smiled and said "No Ren, the rules of this battle is simple." he then approached the young girl looking at the landscape to go get his weapon. As he picked it up, he rested it upon his shoulder and walked back to the spot and turned around to face the Water Dragon Slayer. He looked at her with fierce eyes and bent back, ready to lunge in at her. Overall, Leonard looked like a slouching lazy guy with a touch of cool in it. As he smiled with murderous intent, he swung the sword in front of him, creating a huge wave of decimating flame that blocked Ren's view of him. And as the wave got closer, he jumped up high into the air and held the blade overhead, a ready form of doing a downward slash. As he got nearer to the girl he shouted out loud while laughing "You just need to fight me with all you have! Fight Ren! Fight to the death!"

Ren would stand there as Leonard orchestrated his moves. Her eyes shifted upwards as Leo came down in a downward slash. She lets her body fall as she performs her Water Body spell. As Leo's blade comes down on her, her body splits into two halves of water and they move in twists and twirls over Leo, Ren's weapon having fallen through her hand onto the ground. As she reforms over him, she sends down a kick towards the back of his head. She wondered if this was the right course of action, were they supposed to use their magic, or was it hand-to-hand combat, rather blade-to-blade. Who would win? Will she just get beat silly or will she actually be able to beat him? Either way, she's going to get stronger. Her attention diverts back to her attack toward Leonard. She soars through the air with her leg out, aiming for the center of Leo's head.

Surprisingly, Ren's body turned to water and split in half. Truly, the power of a Dragon Slayer is amazing. As the girl reformed over his head with a kick Leonard dashed forward to avoid being hit. As he stopped, he turned around with his foot and faced Ren with a ready stance. His blade in hand, however, it wasn't the burning fire sword he had once. Now, it is a blade shining brightly with golden light. Leonard smiled at what clam and relaxed combatant he has in front of him. "Nice moves, calm, comfortable and well thought of. However, you let emotions spill out of your eyes. Do, whatever it is you need to to defeat me. And don't worry, I won't kill you. Just treat this as if it was a fight to the death." he said in a happy way. Although that could be very disturbing from him especially the way he is now, a man who'd wanna kill someone because it's fun. It may sound evil but Leonard really just wants to do battle. Now the battle resumed and Ren flies towards him with a kick. Leonard smiled and saw through it for it was an obvious attack. As Ren got near, Leonard used Reshape:Wings and flew straight into the air, throwing daggers down directly at Ren as he did. And once he did, he equipped the burning sword again on his other hand. Now with two blades, Leonard used the fire one to cast "Dragon Flame" and a dragon-shaped fire projectile burst angrily towards the Dragon Slayer. However, Leonard wasn't finished. He landed on the ground a little farther away from where he stood before and still with his blades in hand and wings on his back. Putting the swords together and pointing it towards his target. he charged magic power to both of them that will send a violent ray of combined flame and light. He kept it that way until a clear shot was to be seen.

Ren would watch as her attack fails. She sighs momentarily , disappointed that she was unsuccessful. She moves over to her fallen weapon as Leonard sends down a few daggers. Ren, having not deactivated her Water Body spell, would simply begin to spin her kusarigama at her side, making the sound when an objects whips through the air at high speeds. The daggers would go through Ren's chest and pierce themselves into the ground behind her. Ren would stop in her tracks and send her kusarigama in front of her in whirlpool-like manner, creating a mini whirlpool by combining water magic with her kusarigama. The "Dragon Flame" would be sent into the whirlpool and extinguished, but the sheer force of the attack would send Ren skidding back. As the whirlpool dissipates, Ren would see Leonard preparing to send off another attack. She would send herself forward into a front flip, sending her kusarigama forward as it wraps around Leonard's weapons. She tugs at them in an attempt to disarm Leonard.

Leonard's first waves of attacks were unsuccessful due to the fact that Ren's body was still made of water. What was more disappointing was the Dragon Flame spell got extinguished with a rather simple spell. But the attack's destructive and exploding nature did knock her back. However, there was no need to dwell on those failures. Ren made evasive maneuvers as she saw Leonard charging his attack. However, he hasn't fired it yet. Ren was only tiring herself with what she was doing. Now that the girl had stopped, tired in her tracks. Leonard let loose the fury of Light and Flame. A large ray of light crackling with electricity at its edges while it was surrounded by flame was hurtled towards Ren that even covered her view of him due to its size. The force was strong enough to send him back. But that was a good thing, for it made him enter the woods and his wings still at his back, he controlled his being sent away. He was brought back and now he was in a horizontal position and he stepped on a tree's trunk while waving his wings to stop the force. After which he jumped off the tree and reached for the next tree's branch climbing up of it. Now he was waiting in anticipation with his wings gone. He sat there on the tree waiting for Ren with daggers held in reverse.

Ren would watch as her disarming fails and Leonard sends off an attack. The attack would would speed towards her at an alarming pace. She was able to duck down in time, the attack passing over her head, but singeing her hair and knocking her over in the process. She steadies herself as the smoke from the attack subsides. He. Ruined. My. Hair. Ren would begin to be filled with intense anger. As petty as it is, she would go completely insane with anger. Water would swirl around her feet as it twirls up around her legs until it snakes around her whole body. She keeps her eyes open for Leonard in complete anger.

Leonard watched by the tree he was on. Apparently he sent the attack a little too high which gave her a change to duck it. However it did get her hair and now she's angry about it. Leonard smiled at the view from the covering of leaf and wood. It was slightly hilarious that she got angry about her hair. But somehow, Leonard understood. Her hair completes her overall beauty after all. Now she's just looking for him lost in her anger. She keeps this up, she'll never find me he thought to himself. Calm down Ren, let go of the anger and use your feelings he continued. However Leonard felt this might take a while, the mage didn't let his guard down. He was just as alert as he had been from the start.

Ren would look around, but after a few minutes of being unsuccessful, she decides to send out small tentacles of water outwards to minimalize magical power use. She uses the water to feel the vibrations around her. The vibrations would move through the "tentacles" and would reach the streams wrapped around her body, thus giving her a pinpoint location. The tentacles would reach out as far as they can go before the vibrations dissipate from the length. Just as the tentacles reach the base of Leonard's tree, Ren would feel vibrations being sent from Leo's wings through to the tree to the tentacles. Ren would feel the faint vibrations. She then retreats all her tentacles back to herself as she sends them back to the tree, making their way up to Leonard. As they reach him, Ren sends them forward to grab onto Leo's ankles and knees.

Surprisingly Ren found him after some time. The method she used was... mind blowing. Thought she'd flood the whole place considering how angry she was. However, Leonard saw the tentacles aimed at his lower body. Guess his sneak plan won't work this time. Leonard dropped down from the tree and sliced the tentacles with his daggers as he dashed for the open plains. The daggers, turning to the two swords again, cut their way through the tentacles but as he did, the flames of his sword died out. Well this is bad he thought, now his fire capabilities are out for a while until the fires come back. Now having cleared the tentacles, he withdrew his fire sword and concentrated on using the sword of light. Leonard thought for a moment and had the best idea. Pointing the sword upward, he used the spell "Divine Punishment". Another crackling ray of light came down from the heavens aimed directly below Ren. Holding the blade in front of him which is now pointed towards Ren, he thought Should she decide to turn liquid again, Divine Punishment's explosion once it hits something will tear her apart. Oh I hope she doesn't die, please don't die.

Ren would watch as Leonard gracefully dodges her attacks. She watches him head towards her as well as tuck one of his swords away. She sees him prepare a spell, but having recently used her Water Body, she would have to rely on her skills in dodging alone. She notices quite the amount of magical power being built up near her. What is he planning? Ren would think. She would clench her fists as her muscles tense up in preparation for his attack. She would keep her eyes on Leo. Making sure she sees every twitch, every movement. Suddenly, a ray of light would come down onto Ren. She looks up and dives out of the way, but the pressure would send her farther than she thought, although she was able to retaliate by creating a bed-like form made of water to cushion her fall. She gets back up and quickly initiates Water Dragon's Grip and sends out a jet of water which would resemble a fist.

Thankfully the attack didn't kill Ren nor did it do so much damage. It sent her flying away though but her waters cushioned it. The test was getting longer, this might get out of hand if it continues in this pace. Leonard thought of ways in how to end it and get the exam's point across. As he thought of it, a high-speed jet of water was flying towards him. And from that rate, he won't be able to dodge it, so he raised his sword up and block the attack. Slipping to the right and getting away from the attack's path. Now they were at a stand still, with a cloud of smoke from the previous attack he made in between them. The perfect cover if he could say so himself. Now, it was time to bring pain into the field. The winds blew, getting stronger and stronger with each passing moment. The clouds darkened with cloud brining thunder and lightning, but not rain. A storm had came and the winds seems to come closer to Leonard. With the snap of his fingers, the winds raged and swirled. Flashes of light can be seen appearing randomly around Leonard and as the flash ended , it was revealed to be weapons, carried in the wind. "Bladestorm Art: Milenyo" he muttered, causing the winds to grow and blades to multiply. And with the swirling vortex, sucking in everything in it, he walked toward Ren.

Ren watched as the weather grew worse and worse. What is going on? Ren thought to herself. She looked around her before setting her eyes on Leonard. She watched as weapons formed around him through the storm. She would close her eyes, clapping her palms together as Leonard slowly approaches her. The air around them would become dense and heavy as a powerful force of magic could be felt coming from Ren. She turns her arm in a circle, as if in a meditative trance. The water that she had generated over the course of the battle would return to her, even being expelled from the field which had absorbed the water. (If it's allowed, if not, then just ignore that part :3) The water would spiral around Ren resembling a tornado, but... well... water, so technically a whirlpool. The tornado would spiral at high speed, disturbing the wind current that Leonard seemingly manifested. Ren's hair would be flying all around her as she waits in her barrier of water.

Such power got channeled by Ren. It was incredibly large too. Leonard looked at it fiercely and prepared his attack concerning the tornado or whirlpool whatever it may be. A whirlpool in the land maybe? Anyway, Leonard manipulated the wind he had conjured just now. Focusing somw of it in front of him creating a large bullet shape concentration of wind. Then, he launched it at the whirlpool piercing it, creating a hole. But the hole might not be there for so long so Leonard decided to make his move. He walked fast to Ren and therefore making the slicing winds go nearer to Ren. Leonard having gotten through the whirlpool and destroying it more as he got closer, turned his attention to Ren who was now at the edge of the wind's reach who was also sucking her closer in.

Ren would watch as Leonard breaks through her defense with such ease. She drops her hands to the side as she falls to her knees, having exhausted her magical power. She'd be breathing heavily as pushes the hair away from her face. She steadies herself as she tries to get back up, but failing due to fatigue. She stays on the ground as she speaks to Leo. "I... I can't defeat you... Which is quite obvious, considering the difference in our ranks... But I gave it my best..." Ren would say in friendly tone. She forces herself to stand up, grunting here and there at her aching muscles. "I give up." Ren would say, her hands in the air, with a bright smile. She looks at Leonard's expression, and awaits his response while panting.

Ren was defeated she didn't want to go on and said it herself that she gives up. If that was the case then Ren would fail. She didn't know she had to defeat him. All Leonard needed from her to pass this test was to show him something. "Give up?! Is this how far you would go for something you want to achieve?! For you goal?! Is your resolve this small?! I don't believe that Ren! You've gotten this far so fast, there must be something you were yearning for to be that determined! Also, you're Fairy Tail and Fairy Tail doesn't give up! Not for anything if what she lives for is worth it! he shouted on to Ren with the spell active but not coming in to do damage. Indeed Leonard looked angry but he wasn't in the inside. He wanted to give Ren a chance in this exam because from start to end, he was impressed.

Ren would listen to Leonard's allegations. She thinks back to her past of humiliation and embarrassment which would fuel her anger. A shockwave of magical power would be sent out as water would engulf Ren, forming itself into a mini dragon. Ren would be at the core of the dragon, her arms and legs outstretched giving off a sense of unconsciousness. The dragon would move and act like a real dragon would, It would flap it's wings and open it's jaws open. A magic circle would appear in front of the jaws as Ren initiates a Roar of the Water Dragon. A jet of high speed water would be sent from the dragon's mouth. Due to Ren's anger, the water would be quite hot, steam emitting from the jet. The dragon would then quickly send it's head up into the air as two small magic circles appear over it's eyes. A cloud would form over the immediate area, as Ren uses her Water Dragon's Despair. Sharp raindrops would begin to rain down like tiny knives.

It seems Leonard's shouting helped her to get through. But that doesn't mean she will go easy on her. Ren is now at a heart of a dragon that moves like one. Now it looks like Leonard is up against a Water Dragon. But no fear, he had to keep his composition as it was in the start. Ren used the Roar spell and as a response, Leonard used the winds again to combat the spell, conjuring a violent tornado with powerful force that pushes the Roar attack back. But Ren was in the retaliation mode and came with another attack, knife like sharp waters coming down like rain. Fortunately, the winds surrounding Leonard blew them away. The spell was almost disappearing. He'd had to bust a near death move to see how far Ren can really go.

The dragon would appear to be agitated when Leo brushes off the attacks as if they were nothing. The dragon would grow somewhat bigger, but not that noticeable to the naked eye. It would stand on it's hind legs and a magic circle would appear between it's hands. A thin jet of water would slowly emerge from the circle and it would slowly grow and grow, forming into a fist. "Water Dragon's Grip!" Ren's voice would resonate as the would fly towards Leonard, the palm open to grab him. As it speeds towards Leo, spikes would be sent out from the stream from the fist sending itself towards the guild master. The raindrops would continue to fall as Ren's third attack would get closer and closer to Leo.

The magic Leonard casted was almost out. And in bad timing too, he needed it now to defend against these attacks. As its final act before it vanishes, Leonard concentrated the winds and released them all out in violent, windy explosion brushing off those attacks. Now he was left open with some magic drained form the last spell. He hopped back getting away from range. As he landed on a safe spot, black aura would be seen around him with his eyes glowing red. "Power of Apocalypse" he muttered onto himself which caused him to course with black energy increasing his physical power. He raised his hand up and clouds above swirled. A huge black and red magic circle appeared below Leonard as the the black energy violently forms to a sword reaching up to the heavens. "ReQuip! Blade of Apocalypse!" he shouted and the energy burst out revealing a large sword with a black blade. He focused magic power onto it and made a vertical slash sending the blade downward onto Ren and everything in front of Leonard. The blade was held in reverse edge so Ren was facing the blunt side, not the sharp deadly side.
