The two vulcans bellowed out and beat at their chests before leaping at the coach with a huge woop. That was their big mistake. If they had remained silent they might of been able to topple the coach and throw the two mage's off their game. However, they had been noisy and as such as they leapt the coach door swung open and two fireballs were launched. The first was a weak spell that only knocked the vulcan back a bit, stopping its assault, but did cause it to beat at its chest to try and remove the flames. Flames spread from this source and hit the second one, but only enough to cause its fur to catch. It didn't knock it down from the air. The second fireball was a bit more powerful and sent the target flying back into the tree behind it. The fire once more spread and hit the vulcan who was trying to beat out the flames on his chest adding more to its problems. Fortunately, the trees didn't catch fire. On their journey over here it had rained a bit which had slowed their approach, but it made playing with fire in the woods a lot more viable.
The vulcan who was hit with the stronger fireball began to beat at its chest trying to get rid of the flames. It succeeded in getting rid of them because its fur was still slightly damp and so wouldn't hold the flame. Magna leapt out of the coatch at this point his headband around his brow and his eye colour changed to red to denote his seriousness. "Get the carriage out of here mister. My buddy and I have a job to do." The man nodded and with surprising skill managed to turn his carriage around and begin riding in the opposite direction.
"I'll wait for ye at the beanstalk village for one day. if you ain't there well then i'm going home. Good luck boyos." he shouted as he road off.
Magna nodded and looked back at the vulcans as he prepared for another spell. He didn't like hurting animals he didn't plan to use for cooking, but he should be able to drive them off without hurting them too bad. He had with that vulcan Jin and he had dealt with before. He was more experienced now. This should be a piece of red velvet cake.

Romulus awoke to Magna shooting two fireballs out of the stage. Romulus thought that the chef wasn't one for needles destruction, so there had to have been a reason for his actions. Upon further inspection, Romulus saw two of the Vulcans they were sent after with their fur partially ablaze. Magna shouted something to the carriage driver and Romulus felt the carriage being turned around and threw himself out of the door. Still being tired, Romulus had almost landed flat on his face, barely moving his arms outwards so he landed on his hands and feet, similar to how a runner would stand at a starting line. Romulus was tightening his muscles to spring towards the two beasts, when two glanced at each other and took. They probably realized the mess they had gotten themselves into. Romulus raised one hand and screamed at them two stop. And stop they did. Romulus had used an ability he truly disliked using, but there was no other option in this scenario.
Romulus stood up straight up and walked over to the two Vulcans. He made sure both were fully extinguished and the hit one on the jaw as hard as he could. "THAT is for interrupting my nap! Magna, I don't have any rope, do you have anything to tie these two up with??"

Magna was surprised at how Romulus had dealt with the situation. He'd used what seemed to just be a shout, an order no less, and the vulcans had obeyed. Had they obeyed out of fear or had Romulus applied some ability in order to do this? That he couldn't really tell. He'd have to ask about it later. For now they had the two vulcans to deal with. He paused as he considered if he had anything suitable for using as rope. He was pretty sure he didn't so shook his head.
"Nah I don't really use rope or anything like that much." he said with a shrug. "Perhaps in the future i'll have to add some sort of noodle spell to my repetoire." It was a good idea and one he would definitely consider. After all, he preferred to disable his opponents rather than killing them, unless of course it was for food. "I suppose I could freeze them though if its just a matter of restraining them." He had a couple of ice spells and with the heat damage they'd received the ice would be particularly effective against them. He suspected though that Romulus might want to ask them where the other vulcans were and use the rope to just hold them here until they answered. Or perhaps to prevent them alerting their friends whilst the two hunted for them.

Romulus scowled when he learned that his partner lacked anything to use as a restraint. He looked the two Vulcans over one more time and noted that the one he got was still dazed. Romulus in rmally would have just killed them, but this mission was more about sending a message. The dazed Vulcan did give Romulus an idea. "No, you need to save you magic in case we run into any stronger than these," Romulus said to his partner as be began cracking his knuckles, sending fear visibly through the two Vulcans in front of the wolf mage. Romulus swumg a hard left hook catching the already dazed Vulcan in the temple, knocking him out cold immediately. Then Romulus walked his ay over to the second Vulcan with a devilish grin spread across his face. When Romulus locked eyes with the beast, he didn't have to throw a punch at this one. The Vulcan fainted out of sheer fright. All Romulus could do was laugh at the weakness of the second Vulcan as he walked back towards his partner.
"Well that's 2 down. How do you plan about going and getting more of them?" Romulus asked the younger mage. If he took the time, Romulus night have been able to devise a plan, but he wanted to hear if the chef had any ideas. Romulus wanted to stay the muscle on this job and reaffirm his internal belief that he himself was the the King of Beasts.

Magna considered what was best to do. They had driven two of the vulcans off using a combination of his own magic and Romulus' physicality. Well, that and some sort of physical presence that seemed to intimidate the creatures. In truth it almost sent a shiver up his spine. There was no easy way to find the vulcans in such a large forest. With the recent rain there was no real way to find them by scent. Then he had an idea and looked around the area where he estimated the vulcan's had jumped from. He placed his fingers against the ground and noticed some footprints in the mud. There was also some scrape marks along the trees.
"They came from this direction." Magna said pointing into the distance. If they came from that way then it was likely others came from that way as well because from what he knew of vulcans they tended to team up. "I'm not really that good at tracking, but I guess if we try to follow these signs we might find their nest." It was as good a suggestion as he could think of. He didn't have the ability to fly over the forest looking for them like some mages might. It was the only idea he had really other than splitting up and trying to find them that way.

Romulus walked over beside Magna and looked over the trail the the chef had spotted. The Vulcans were clearly a brutish bunch, as their trail was far from subtle. There were clear footprints for just about as far as Romulus could see, and plenty of mud smeared on the trunks of trees. "Well, if we're going to get anywhere in this job, we should probably start following this. Hopefully we can find a leader of some sorts among these beasts. If we can get him, a majority of the rest will scatter," Romulus said to his partner as he began walking slowly down the trail.
Romulus kept his eyes flicking back and forth between the trail, the mud marked trees, and the surrounding forest in case of an ambush. The way the Vulcans treated the trees in the area was a strong source of displeasure for Romulus. He held one arm outstretched to his side and lightly ran his fingers over the trunks in a way of apologizing to them for how they were treated. As Romulus was scanning the forest surrounding the trail, he spotted a large tree with a deep crack running about 20 feet up the tree. Romulus left the trail to walk over to the damaged trunk. He ran his thumb over the crack and pondered the amount of force it would take to cause damage like that, and in that moment, Romulus shuttered because of strange ominous feeling that came over him.

Magna followed Romulus through the trees. It seemed that Romulus had greater experience or talent with tracking than Magna himself. That wasn't really that surprising as whilst Magna was greatly travelled he wasn't exactly a tracker or hunter. Sure, he had fought a few giant beasts to harvest for food, but they were generally obvious or he had a tracker working with him. Romulus eventually stopped by a tree that had a huge crack running up it. It didn't look like a natural crack formed by something like a quake or a lightning bolt. No, this was done by someone or something. The amount of force required to split this might giant of the forest like this would be quite extreme.
However, he didn't have that long to worry about it because as Romulus touched it he suddenly shuddered and a strange look came to his face. His body language shifted slightly as if something had disturbed him. "Are you ok Romulus?" Magna asked with a concerned tone to his voice. He wasn't sure what had happened, but obviously something had. He stopped suddenly as a feeling of being watched came over him. Was that what Romulus had felt? Perhaps he was more sensitive to these things than Magna?

Romulus shook his head to get rid of the strange foreshadowing feeling that had came over him. He wasn't sure what exactly about the tree had made that feeling bear down on him like it had, but Romulus knew he couldn't let it bother him, or it would get in the way of the mission. If it got in the way of the mission, it could end up getting him and Magna both in trouble, maybe even dead. Romulus was not one to count on the mercy of beasts that would treat the place they live as bad as the Vulcans treated the forest. "Yeah, I think I'll be alright. I just got this weird feeling, like I was looking at my own de-" Romulus cut himself off as he sensed the presence of a few large creatures behind him, back on the trail he had disembarked from. Romulus held perfectly still, assuming they were three Vulcans. Romulus was unable to tell anything about them but their numbers, and wasn't willing to rush into a fight without having some information on who his opponents would be. So, in that moment, Romulus just prayed that he and his partner wouldn't be noticed by the creatures Romulus was still assuming to be Vulcans.

The feeling that Romulus described or attempted to describe before he too sensed the vulcan's presence was not the same as what Magna had felt. He had just felt like he was being observed and it certainly seemed that way. He wasn't quite as skilled as Romulus in the tracking sense so he didn't know there were three immediately. He just knew they weren't alone.
However, it wasn't long before the three vulcan's leapt into view. One appeared to be a child, the other an adult, but a young one and the final one appeared to be an older adult. Judging by the looks it was a child and its parents. Perhaps taking him out on his first trouble making jaunt? It wasn't clear, but it definitely seemed like these three had the potential to work together. This time Magna didn't have the element of surprise nor the element of fire to help him deal with these three. He did have his ice spells, but he would keep them in reserve for the time being. They were best used after his fire spells.
With the numbers skewed like this he decided it was best to even things up and pressed his hand against the knife at his side. The knife glowed brightly causing the vulcans to stop and stare. A good distraction at least. However, the light from the knife moved forward and formed into a figure. When the glow faded a large armored knight, equal in height to that of the eldest vulcan stood there wielding a large golden axe. The vulcans stared not sure what to do as they hadn't seen such a thing before. They stood there staring and the eldest began beating his chest and roaring out as if issuing a challenge.
The knight known as Aegis took a step foward and then suddenly the older vulcan was charged at him. Aegis did not seem afraid nor did he flinch. He didn't in fact move until the vulcan was right in close. In that moment the axe shaft extended and was rammed into the ground. The knight suddenly swung round this launching a double footed kick straight at the oncoming Vulcan sending it flying to the side and into a tree. The knight stood up and lifted the axe reducing the shaft length and then beckoned at the others to try their luck. He didn't say a word.
"Good job Aegis." Magna said and the knight merely nodded and stood there waiting for the vulcan's next move. The eldest vulcan emerged from the tree he had been ploughed through by the kick. He was covered in bruises and scrapes, but he wasn't down yet.

Romulus tensed up as the Vulcans left the trail they were on and approached the two mages. Romulus felt stupid thinking that somehow two mages would be overlooked by the primates. He still hasn't turned around to face the three opponents when he saw the entire area surrounding him lit up. Romulus knew that Vulcans were unable to use magic for the most part, so be was certain that Magna was the one that caused the shining. Not long after the illuminating experience, Romulus heard the sounds of a tree breaking and knew that would have to be the place he focused his attention. Romulus didn't know what was there, but either it was caused by Magna, and the primary enemy would have been there. Or it was caused with Magna and the chef would need immediate attention.
Romulus jumped as high as he could and kicked off of the tree he was observing. This sent him flying with his back facing the ground. Romulus, though unable to see the other two targets, saw that he was currently making great time heading directly towards a fully matured Vulcan that was more than a little bit ticked off. Romulus turned himself over mid flight to make sure he had the best ability to strike the Vulcan as possible. Romulus' right fust began wrapping itself in darkness when he was within striking distance. The mature Vulcan had his attention focused elsewhere when he was struck by the spell, directly on the center of his slightly elongated face. The Vulcan was slammed back down into the ground and wooden pulp that he had made when he hit the tree the first time. The difference now was that Romulus was straddling the Vulcan's stomach and Romulus was waylaying the Vulcan with both hands, only stopping after a few minutes when the Vulcan was unconscious below the wolf mage.

Romulus had used his skill, his physical prowess to deal with the weakened elder vulcan. The other two were now in a state of fury. The child charged at Aegis who had done the initial blow whilst the female charged at Romulus and leapt at him trying for a powerful punch. Magna couldn't really do much because in terms of physical strength he was no match for the vulcans. However, as it leapt at Romulus the vulcan suddenly found itself trapped in a bubble of vinegar. The strong acidity of the vinegar would soak into its skin and cause mild damage. Not enough to bring it down, but enough for it to be hurting. It also prevented it getting a surprise attack hit on Romulus. It was the best Magna could do without doing anything that would cause permanent harm. He had used fire before, but didn't want to keep bringing that out. Besides, he understood the wrath the mother had. It had just seen its mate beaten unconscious.
The child on the other hand found itself held in the strong arm of Aegis. As it had leapt he had grabbed it by the throat and squeezed. Not enough to cause permanent damage, but enough to stop its air flow briefly. With that he threw it at a tree knocking it out cold. The only one left of this trio was the mother who was trapped in a bubble of vinegar for the moment.

Romulus turned around quickly when he heard two higher pitched Vulcans emit vocalizations that did not seem very pleased with one of their own being beaten on as the matured Vulcan had been. Romulus turned around and saw a sight he was not ready for.
When Romulus had turned, he saw a rather young Vulcan laying passed out at the foot of a tree, a strange figure wearing armour wielding an ax, and a Vulcan around the same age as the two that the wolf mage had fought earlier flying towards him. The last Vulcan left moving was more than prepared to strike Romulus, so he tensed up in that moment, awaiting the primate to strike him. All of the sudden, a bubble appeared around the Vulcan, stopping it in its tracks, and the pungent smell of vinegar hit Romulus like acwall of bricks, though not as hard as the Vulcan would have. Romulus loosened up, but threw his hands over his mouth and nose in an attempt to block the smell. The bubble had came, by process of elimination, from the one thing in the area Romulus hadn't noticed, Magna. Romulus turned his head and acknowledged the chef. Romulus nodded and said through his hands, "I thank you for the save, but don't you have any spells that smell a bit better?" Romulus let out a small chuckle to emphasize that his comment was a joke, but it was impossible to tell if Magna could hear it or was able to discern what it was.

Magna rubbed his head with an embarassed grin upon his face as he heard Romulus ask if he had any spells that smelled a bit better. Most people wouldn't of been able to hear it but whilst Magna wasn't on the level of Kaya or Senshi he did have sharp hearing which he used in his cooking. "Sorry about that Romulus. Had to think fast before it sneak attacked you." he said and walked over to the entrapped vulcan and Romulus. He was unsure exactly what to do with the vulcan now whose nose would likely be damaged heavily by the scent of the vinegar and whose skin would be really feeling the acidic effects. "Wasn't sure if my water one would be strong enough and oil seemed too cruel." This was a hint at other spells he had in his arsenal. A spell that trapped a target in salt water and one that deep fried them in oil. The second was one he rarely used as it was indeed quite cruel. It was best used in combination with another one of his techniques.
"So do we let this one go?" Magna said indicating the one in the bubble. He wasn't really the intimidating type and was still pretty new on jobs like this. So in this case it was Romulus' call.

Romulus kept his hand mask in place as he stepped out of the dishevled wood pulp that remained from the tree that the matured Vulcan was beaten with. He stepped up wind from the floating ball of monkey and vinegar. Romulus uncovered his face, but was still cautious not to breathe too deep so the smell wouldn't be able to assault his senses once more. "Well, you caught it, so I think this is your fish to fry," Romulus said to Magna. Romulus wasn't one to joke around too often on jobs, but he certainly hoped the cooking reference would fly past Magna. Romulus eyed the Vulcan in the bubble. No doubt that no matter what Magna chose to do, it would only cause more Vulcans to show up.
Romulus took a deep breathe, cleared his mind, and relaxed all of his senses. He did his best to extend his senses as far as he could. He could hear a bit of movement, deeper into the forest, but he was unable to tell what, if anything, was causing it. He couldn't sense any presences, but that ability of his was fairly limited. He abandoned his sense of smell, since he knew that he would have it either clouded by the vinegar, or the Vulcans would have their scent masked to match with the scent of the forest. Romulus couldn't shake the feeling that there was something close to the mages, but he couldn't definitively say whether there was something or not.

Magna winced at the term 'fish to fry'. He didn't want to fry the vulcan. Fried monkey was not on his list of recipes. As such he snapped his fingers and the bubble vanished. The vulcan staggered about trying to recover and then bolted beating its chest and roaring out. With a racket like that they would soon have the whole forest upon them. Perhaps it would of been better to keep the vulcan trapped until they were a fair distance away. "Well, that's one way to find the vulcans." Magna said with an embarassed grin rubbing the back of his head. He just hoped they didn't come in two great an amount. He didn't want to have to fight an army. In truth he didn't want to fight at all, but he knew vulcans and knew they needed to be stopped otherwise innocent people would be hurt or worse.
He looked over at Aegis who stood silently awaiting the arrival of more vulcans. His presence was so still that he looked like some ancient statue rather than a sentient creature. In truth Magna knew little of the knight. All he knew was the knight was bound to his family and only they could release him from the knife. Something about his ancestor saving the knight. However, was the knight merely just someone in armor or was he actually the armor? It was impossible to tell.
Suddenly, the knight's head turned and Magna knew immediately what that meant. They were no longer alone.
