Romulus sat in the Tavern of the Black Rose guild hall with his signature black trench coat and black gi pants on, but now he also had on a black silk long sleeve shirt that thecmage reserved for only certain occasions. a bottle in one hand, and his entire world in the other. Romulus had been through a long day, so he sat in the bar contemplating many topics of an abnormally large scale. Thinking on topics such as this were what kept him sane for the most part. Well, that and coffee. And booze. But that was it. Probably. Regardless, it was during this psuedo meditation that a package courier walked into the bar. The young man in his incredibly dopey uniform began asking around. Romulus had no idea who the man could have been looking for, until the courier arrived at Romulus' own table. "Excuse me sir, are you one 'Romulus Lupin'?" Romulus simply noded his head at the courier's question, and the uniformed teenager sat a medium sized chest made of bronze and a dark wood, both of which were obviously incredibly old. Romulus shifted his thoughts from the grandiose topics of earlier to simply the box in front of him, that, at minimum, contained one hell of a secret.

Jin was having breakfast with Fira while Kaya was running around the room. The two finished their breakfast and Jin went in to get dressed in his newly designed attire. He wore the sleeveless shirt and long gloves again with a contrasting pair of jeans and similar colored sneakers along with his accessory. He and Kaya then left the room and headed for the tavern, maybe someone would be waiting for them. It did happened sometimes, he would walk down to the tavern and some familiar mage would be waiting to ask him to go on a job. It was thanks to his friends and the members of this guild that he had earned the position of a rising star, a rank up and had become the guild’s ace. The dryad mark symbol on his right arm signified that he was an important person like all the other higher ups in Black Rose.
The two walked down to the tavern and were greeted by every passing by mage. Being an ace and a rising star, he was well known now more than before. He noticed a familiar face by the bar and walked up to it realizing that it was Romulus. ”Yo Romulus” he said as he waved and Kaya rushed right past him and towards Romulus yelling: ”Romyy!!”. By now, the box had arrived but Jin only noticed it when he got closer. ”What’s happening? And what’s with the box?”, he noticed the initials didn’t belong to Romulus; was the box not his then?

Job: Nightmare Incarnate: The Beginning
Rank: C-Rank
Player Requirements: Maximum number of players is ten and the minimum is 2 D ranks. 10 posts per player minimum unless soloing(due to being higher than D rank) then 20 posts. 150 words per post.
Job Requirements: At least 2 D rank mages or the equivalent of. Find out what happened to the rune knights and escape while you are still sane.
Job Location: Spooky Forest
Job Description: One day you receive a large box from the mailman. After inspecting it, you see that it doesn't say anywhere what's inside or why it's been sent to you. All that is written on the box is your name as the recipient and the initials "SM".
Upon opening the box you discover that it's contents are a hardcover book, which upon closer inspection proves to be a person called Samuel Martin's personal diary, and a voice recorder lacrima, both covered in blood stains. Did that man send you this package? Despite the bad feeling you have, you open the book and skim through the entries.
Having listened to the lacrima, it's as if more questions have emerged than been answered. Who sent you these items? How do they know your name? What happened to the Rune Knights? What did they find in that forest?
It seems that you have no choice but to go there and find out yourself.
Enemies:
Weak: Disturbing sounds- Are those footsteps? A demented laughter somewhere in the distance? A person's dying screams? Is that a whisper you can hear, carried in the wind? This place is really freaky...
(Causes paranoia or similar effects, depending on your character. Strong-willed characters or people with a great ability to maintain their calmness can resist this to a great extent, though not completely. Having multiple weak enemy dices means that these sounds "stack", and so their effect becomes greater and perhaps even capable of breaking even the toughest of people. Duration is 3 posts.)
Normal: Poltergeists- Trees falling down, rocks suddenly shooting towards you, having your body strongly pushed away without any explanation. These anomalies can deal some serious damage or scare the living daylights out of you. They might even separate you from your allies. Be on guard. (Single poltergeist per normal monster encounter.)
Strong: The unknown figure- You can feel it, can't you? Just beyond the mist, it's hollow eyes staring right into your soul, sending ice-cold chills down your spine. No matter where you look it's there. Always watching, always moving. And no matter what you do, it's always just beyond the mist.
(Greatly frightens you, triggering your fight or flight mechanism. Whether you choose to attack or run away and hide depends on your character's personality. If this occurs in the early stages of the mission, before you've encountered the other anomalies much it will not have that great an effect. Encountering this in the later stages, however, will trigger your fight or flight mechanism, guaranteed.
Duration is 4 posts, extended depending on number of strong monster encounter dices rolled.)
Boss: Fear impersonated- Your time is up. The chase is over and now you must die. And it is coming to do just that. The unknown figure that had been stalking you until then finally appears before you, for better or worse. It's a humanoid about 2,5 metres tall, clad in black, but that's all you can make out of the figure.
It's attacks are unnaturally fast, it's reach long and it seems that it can attack you with it's tentacles, cutting you with them and letting you bleed. (This is a B-rank monster. Also please note that defeating it means that it does not die. Instead it escapes back into the mist, which gets raised soon after, and leaves behind several torn pages).
Reward: 1,000 jewels. If the boss has appeared and was defeated, the extra reward is part of the ripped pages from the diary received in the beginning of the mission. Those pages grant access to the next Nightmare Incarnate mission.

"Oh, hey Jin. And hello to you as well, cub," Romulus said to his two old acquaintances as he scooped the small tiger into his arms and into his lap so he could pet her. "I really don't know anything about this box, honestly. A courier just dropped it off, but he didn't say anything when he did. Do you want the honors of opening it?" the wolf mage asked Jin as he scratched behind the chibi tiger's ear and she nuzzled her head into his palm. Romulus then turned his attention back to the box for a short time. He felt something very dark radiating from the box, which was the main reason Romulus had not opened the box yet, and the longer he looked at the two initials the more he could have swore he heard a heavy breathing right over his shoulder. That sensation made Romulus quickly move his attention down to the tiger in his lap. She wore a cute little smile as Romulus gave her attention, she seemed blissfully unaware of the radiating evil right behind her.

Jin felt something fishy about the box, there was no evidence to prove it; it was just his gut feeling. While Kaya enjoyed the attention she got from Romuslus, Jin pulled the stool and sat down in front of the box. ”Sure, I’ll take a peek inside” he replied as he placed his hands on the box. Nothing felt out of place judging by the heat of the box, there was nothing else to do then but open it. Carefully, he opened the box with a creaking sound. What he found inside startled him, there was a blood stained diary and a sound recording lacrima. ”Blood?” what had happened with the owner of these items? Kaya’s cute smile disappeared and her eyes shifted to her owner who was staring at the blood.
He carefully lifted the diary and opened it and he also took out the lacrima placing it on the table. The recording began to play as he began reading through the pages. It seemed like a daily journal of someone named “Samuel Martin”.

Romulus wrinkled his nose as soon as their was let out of the box. Blood. It was a smell Romulus was all to used to. As Jin took the two blood stained items out of the box, Romulus eyed them carefully. He stared intently on the diary until the lacrima began to make noise. He shouted his intentions quickly to the small item as it emitted the disembodied voice of a man claiming to be from the Ruin Knights. He detailed the events of a party going into some woods on an investigation, and then terrible things happened to them. Romulus was shocked. He was definitely not a big fan of the Ruin Knights, but what was being described was wholesale slaughter. And no one deserves to die like that. "Jin," Romulus pauesed to compose himself, "What the hell did this?? And what should we do about it??" Romulus growled the second part out, and clinched his fists tight, as he had begun to feel a strange mixture of rage and fear. The latter was not an emotion he was used to, and this bar had suddenly began to feel way too enclosed for his liking. "And is there any chance we could finish this conversation outside?"

While Jin read the diary, he said nothing he just read it completely. After that, he listened to the voice recording until the very end. He had never heard of such an incident before and neither had he ever dealt with it. When Romulus asked if the discussion could be done outside, he simply nodded and walked; he was lost in thoughts. ”From the diary it seems an exorcism went bad. The female seemed to be possessed but not like those that I had dealt with.” He had come across possessed children before and had fought the person using the dark magic doing it so. However, this seemed a very violent kind of matter. He quietly walked outside the guild and waited for Romulus to follow afterwards. After Romulus arrived, Jin was standing looking into the distance as he experienced a mix of feelings. He was sad for the lives that had been lost and he was furious for the one who was responsible.
He took a deep breath and looked at Romulus: ”As mages of Black Rose, we can’t just ignore this. We will have to go investigate and hope that we find the husband; maybe, just maybe some Rune knights survived too”, he was being optimistic. In the last recording, the lieutenant in charge of the investigation had said that he was the only survivor and it could also be assumed that he was no longer alive. ”Let’s go Romulus, we will finish what they started”, after pausing for a moment he said to Romulus. Kaya looked at his friend and owner and nodded, she was getting restless too. They couldn’t possibly leave such an evil roaming around and they couldn’t leave innocent people waiting to be rescued.

Romulus stood up from where he was sitting and walked out of the Tavern right behind Jin. Romulus was certainly planting his feet harder than normal as his emotions were still flareing. His hair, under the control of his magic was being tossed wildly around on the top of his head. He was still tense as he made his way through the guild, but as soon as he got out the door and the salted air hit his lungs, he loosened up. As he listened to Jin speak on what they should do, Romulus couldn't help but agree with him. Romulus, a bit to tense to want to speak still, set off towards the dock. He already knew what boat to get on to make it to the forest they talked about on the lacrima. He didn't put any thought towards the fact that it looked like he was storming off and abandoning the job.

Jin didn’t get any reply, Romulus stood there until he explained and then he was off. Jin had done two jobs with Romulus in the past. Jin was also the first friend Romulus had made when he got into the guild. Sure, they didn’t know one another that much but it wasn’t nothing. Knowing Romulus, even if it looked like that he was abandoning the job and running away; Jin wouldn’t believe that. He interpreted it in a different manner, ”Either he is too worried or too furious, or like me, he is experiencing a mix of those feelings”. As Romulus hadn’t said anything, he didn’t have much to say too so he simply followed his guild mate. Along with Kaya, the two boarded the same ship as Romulus. When on the ship, their journey began towards the east forest. He walked up to Romulus and patted his shoulder, ”We need to be calm if we want to solve this mystery. If we lose our cool, either you or me or both of us could end up injured”. In terms of experience, he had done quite a few jobs. He was also Romulus’s senior in the guild, so he felt it necessary to gently nudge his friend in the right direction. In times of crisis, sometimes a trust worthy friend is all one needs. Thanks to Kaya and Romulus by his side, even though Jin was struggling with this situation; he was still strong because of them.

Jin spoke the truth, and even Romulus had to admit that he was right. Romulus let out a long sigh as he walked over to the edge of the ship. "I'll be fine once we get out to sea and away from the city. And I will do my absolute best to stay calm once we arrive as well. I don't want to see you or Kaya get hurt," Romulus said as he leaned over the railing of the ship they were on. It would depart from the port very soon and that departure from the city would ease his tension. They called cities civilized land, but Romulus couldn't disagree more. Cities were full of chaos, pointless death, and corruption. None of those things sounded overly civilized to Romulus. He had always felt comfortable in nature. That was why he was rarely seen in the guild hall. He was normally in Rose Garden, one of the more natural cities, or in the forest that surrounded Lavantir.
Once the ship set off, Romulus knew it would be a long trip, so he made his way over the front left corner of the deck and sat there. He did his best to keep his mind off of his thoughts but this long of a trip, it would be quite difficult.

Thanks to Jin’s words, Romulus calmed down a little and they were off on their journey. It would take them quite a while before they arrived at their destination. He decided to give Romulus his space and found himself a place to rest while they travelled. Kaya found her place alongside Jin and slept after getting tired from running around too much. After travelling for almost half a day, they arrived at the east forest. Jin got up and walked to Romulus as the ship came to a halt, ’Let’s go” he said with a gentle smile hoping that Romulus was back to normal again. The group then departed from the ship and headed into the forest.
”According to the diary and the audio logs, we will have to head deep into the forest. When we encounter fog, we’ll know we’re there”, he said as they continued to move ahead. What mystery lay ahead them and what foe awaited their arrival? They would soon find out.

Romulus spent the majority of the boat ride half asleep, drifting in and out of the reality around him. As he drifted there on the ship, visions of what might come to be flashed through his head. Some of the creature that him and Jin might come to face. Others of the mangled bodies if the Ruin Knights. And a very select few of Romulus' own body beaten and broken. Those images are what kept Romulus from making it all the way to sleep.
When the ship finally made it to port, Jin came over to Romulus, and the two departed. As they made it into the forest, Jin went back over the details of what they were looking for, and Romulus overtook Jin, so he was walking in the lead. He did not do this on purpose, but his restless nature made it hard for him to walk slowly.
After a few minutes of walking, Romulus stopped walking, closed his eyes, and took a deep breathe. As the breathe went through his throat he could feel the cold moisture that came with fog, and upon tasting something that was not there, he opened his eyes back up to find himself in a light fog, but upon looking deep into the forest, he saw that the fog got much thicker deeper into the forest.

Kaya was quiet the entire time the two mages ventured further inside the forest. Normally birds can sense if there would be a change in weather. Similarly, other creatures have heightened senses and know about things that humans can’t. Maybe it was one of those abilities that allowed her to sense what awaited them. Obviously Jin could guess it but he couldn’t sense anything usual, at least for now. However, he was sure that Kaya’s silence hinted at something ominous awaiting them. It was still mid day and Jin wasn’t feeling too bad. The thing that he found troublesome was the lack of information. They had no clue as to where they were headed and who they were going to deal with. Something that was capable of awful things, sure they had idea; it was better than nothing. ”A creature that ruined the happy life of a couple and massacred a group of Rune Knights. What formidable enemy awaits in these woods?” He couldn’t help but continuously question it as he just quietly moved ahead.
Slowly the light began to disappear and fog began to appear, as they moved deeper into the forest, so did the fog grow thicker. Unlike other forests, the odd thing about this one was that there was no sound. The leaves above them were so thick and dense, barely any light made it through. Now Jin was beginning to feel some eyes around him, was it just his paranoia?

Romulus continued to walk foolhardily into the fog, feeling it as it thickened around him. He then suddenly heard a large cracking sound behind him, and he turned around quickly to see an extremely large tree had fallen between him and Jin. This sense of separation from the more experienced mage had already begun bothering Romulus. As much as he preferred to work solo, in this instance, Romulus knew he was outclassed.
This fear did not bode well for the wolf mage. The fear the tree had caused in him only survived to push him close to the edge. Romulus turned back in the direction he thought that he was going previously, but there was truly no way of telling if it was the right direction with the low level of light, and the fog as dense as it was. As he walked farther into the forest, the fog seemed to stop densing, but Romulus did occasionally find himself stumbling over things that weren't there, or being nudged by a nonexistent wind. Every stumble and every bump just pushed Romulus farther and farther. Thankfully, the fact that this mission was in a forest had kept him relatively stable. For the time being.

It was an uneasy feeling that Jin couldn’t shake off. What was it that he was feeling? Something? Someone? What could it possibly be? Even though he was using his heat vision, there was nothing out of the ordinary. He wasn’t one to be paranoid so he couldn’t be entirely wrong, there must be something different here. Suddenly, a tree fell from behind him and separated him from his friend. Instantly, Jin stopped and turned to look for Romulus. Getting separated would not be a good thing in such a dense forest and thick fog. He climbed atop the tree with Kaya on his shoulder, Kaya sniffed the air and pointed to where she could smell Romulus. Jin too found his friend using the heat signature he was familiar with. He rushed to his friend’s side to make sure he was okay: ”You okay?” he inquired looking at Romulus.
After making sure that Romulus was okay, he decided to find out what had made the tree fall. He followed the large tree to its base. Just when he got there he stumbled and bend over to gain his center of gravity. Right at that instant when his head was low, a stone came flying from out of nowhere and crashed to the tree in front of Jin. He couldn’t help but notice the trajectory of the projectile. The stone wasn’t small either, it was a nice big piece of rock. If he hadn’t luckily stumbled, his head would’ve been smashed into pieces. Fear made its way through his body as he stared at the rock for a little while with an empty expression on his face. Noticing the change in her friend and master’s expression, using her paw she slightly nudged Jin’s face: ”Jinny?” she said in a worried tone. He shook his head as he returned to normal, there was still some fear that lingered. He couldn’t help but be afraid of what awaited them ahead.

Romulus visibly calmed when Jin showed up at his side, though his emotions were once again brought tight when a large chunk of stone flew towards his friend. The stone was traveling too fast for Romulus to be able to do anything to stop it or change its direction. Luckily, Jin had stumbled and that put the stone's trajectory away from the heat mage's skull. Romulus scanned around here the stone had come from, but he couldn't see or smell anything.
Romulus tried to shake the feeling that there was something out to get the two mages in the forest, but he couldn't. Between those thoughts and his emotions clouding his thoughts, Romulus was nigh on unprepared for the two stones, both coming at fourty five degree angles on front of him, heading straight for his chest. They were already too close to dodge when he had notice them, and if he tried a diversion, he could only divert one. Instead he went for the only thing he could think of at that moment. Romulus jumped up slightly, and cast Pounce of the Wolf and tried to kick both stones back at there senders. The momentum of the stones, however, had a very different idea. Romulus succeeded in stoping the stones from injuring him, but the momentum of the two rocks overpowered his kicks and sent him hurdling backwards into a tree that was behind him. When his spine met with the wood, a loud cracking sound was emitted. Thankfully the sound had came from the tree, but the loud cough had came very distinctly from the wolf mage as his lungs took the force of the hit. Romulus arched his back and fell onto his knees and elbows, still unable to catch his breath. Further inspection would reveal that the tree had a small indentation from the impact, and a very deep crack running from the ground to roughly five feet above the dent. Had the tree not given as it had, Romulus would have had much more extensive injuries to his ribs and spine. As Romulus recovered in that same position he managed to say, "I WAS okay," but it came out extremely horse and was followed by a small coughing fit.

The large stones weren’t just hurled at him but also at Romulus. His friend wasn’t as lucky as him though, even though he tried he was thrown backwards by the stones. Jin turned to find the source of those attacks using his heat vision but there was nothing. He then ran to Romulus’s side to make sure he wasn’t that bad hurt. Sadly, he was hurt quite badly but the good thing was it wasn’t that grave. This situation made him seriously mad. He hadn’t felt this much rage ever. He didn’t mind getting hurt but if a friend was injured, that was different story. ”Sorry” he said to Romulus in a sad tone, he felt terrible at the moment. It wasn’t just rage he was experiencing but sorrow as well. Jin had been on a lot of jobs and he had experience with his magic. Not just that, he was also the owner of two titles: Rising Star and the Ace of Black Rose. Despite all that, he couldn’t save his friend from getting hit by two attacks. ”I really am sorry” he bowed his head to Romulus in a apologetic manner so much that Kaya fell down from his shoulder. Jin’s expressions were so sad, that it made Kaya feel bad and the saber tooth tiger who had nothing to do with the situation too bowed her head to Romulus.
After that apologetic bow, Jin raises his head and Kaya climbs back up to his shoulder. The nature of this job was so different that Kaya had remained quiet this entire time. Jin then walked to the tree that had been knocked earlier and sat down examining the remaining part of the tree. It appeared like something sharp had cut the tree clear off. Something that was so sharp to actually manage that was indeed scary. ”Someone or something was fast enough to cut it so cleanly. Our foe is skilled, far too skilled”, this was his assumption after looking at the tree.

Romulus, still down on his hands and knees, balled his hands into fists after Jin had finished his apology. Romulus was being to get more and more angry at whatever was doing these things to him and his partner. Romulus slammed one fist down hard into the ground, sending a pulse of dark energy out of his hand, and his hair flying about wildly Romulus slowly and weakly stood up from his kneeling position. When he finally made it to his feet, Romulus took a deep breath to check that stays of his lungs and found them to be in normal condition, but his ribs were still sore from the impact he had taken. His back and shoulders were both bruised, and he had a hard time keeping his back straight. But, really, you should have seen the other guy.
Romulus cracked his neck and stretched his shoulders to get loosened back up. Thankfully the actions had a very small calming effect for the wolf mage. Romulus began walking back into the woods at a slow, almost cocky, pace. Straight into the direction of where he believed the two entities that cast the first stones. He had no clue what he was looking for, or what he would do when he found the two things that were capable of throwing stones that large with that much force. All Romulus knew was that they would pay for what they did to the two Black Rose mages. Romulus was not normally one for blind vengeance, but his inability to even sense his attacks, in Romulus' eyes, showed a very deep level of cowardice that angered him even further.

It had gotten pretty quiet all of a sudden. It was quiet to begin with but this was a different kind of quiet, more like the ominous kind. The kind that usually existed before the storm. Jin was experiencing multiple kinds of feelings so he couldn’t perceive it. Romulus was probably too angry to pay any attention to it. As Romulus headed in the direction the two large projectiles had come from, Jin followed behind his comrade closely. Suddenly, a distinct creaking sound was heard and a large tree once again fell between them. Only a few inches from Jin but he was safe, or was he? Another tree, fell right behind it and since was caught by surprise due to the first one, he was caught underneath the large tree. It was a giant tree, thus extremely heavy. Jin was buried under the weight of three, somehow Kaya was safe as Jin fell. He fell and she rolled off of his shoulders and obtained a few slight bruises. Jin on the other hand, was now in a very painful situation. ”Argh!” was the sound he made as he was caught by the tree. Pain immediately began to course through his body and his vision became blurry.
Whatever it was that had been making him feel uneasy had finally caught up to the two mages. He was struggling to remain conscious but he was sure that getting up won’t be that easy. It was the forest and thus no place to use fire techniques. However, Jin had gained sufficient experience with his magic to have greater control over it. Struggling with the pain, he took a deep breath and closed his eyes. Raising the temperature of only the part of the tree that was on top of him, he set it on fire. The fire didn’t spread since he maintained control over it. The temperature began to rise and the process was sped up. The fire crumbled the tree and it fell apart, freeing Jin. Being impervious to temperature changes, the heat was nothing for him. However, the blunt damage to his body was a completely different story.
Mustering up all the strength he could, he stood up putting a hand on the tree. The pain was so much that he could barely stand, his eyes were closed because of the pain. He opened up a single eye just to make sure Kaya was okay and Romulus was there. He caught a glimpse of them both and then suddenly, something hit him on the back of his head. Baam! a sound echoed in the forest as he was flung a few feet forward in the air. A smaller much faster stone had just been launched out of nowhere and hit him. Once again, the heat mage was on the ground, struggling only to remain conscious.

Romulus turned around in a snap when he heard the first tree fall and seperate the two mages once again. His turning did save him a bit of unfortunate luck, however. As the young adult mage was turning around, another hunk of stone flew right where his heart would have been. This stone was traveling more than fast enough to have pierced Romulus' chest, as the very wind of it had made the mage turn the second have of his motion even faster than the first half. Romulus was able to watch as the second tree fell, though he was unaware of what it had fallen on. Romulus made a bee line towards the doened trees. Romulus was too concentrated on his own thoughts to notice that the tree that had fallen second had caught on fire. By the time Romulus made it over the tree that had seperate him from his partner, Jin was already near unconscious on the ground. Romulus rushed over to his fallen comrade, fearing the worst, but was relieved to find the heat mage still breathing. Romulus heard a faint whistling sound and was able turn see a rock traveling from quite a distance towards the doened mage. The rock, though far away at the time, suddenly got extremely close due to its high rate of speed. Romulus barely had time to execute a windmill kick to deflect the rock. Without magic being used, Romulus had to use all of his strength to redirect the stone away from Jin, but at the cost of Romulus lightly fracturing his own shin bone. The emotionally charged mage was too high strung to notice the severity of his energy, but was able to note that he could barely put any pressure what so ever on his right leg.

Jin couldn’t say much nor raise his head but he could sense that Romulus had rushed to his side. It was thanks to Romulus’s quick movements that the currently immobile heat mage was saved. After spending some time on the ground, his senses returned back to him. He had taken quite a bit of damage but it wasn’t enough to knock him out for good. Jin stood on his own and shook his head so that his blurry vision returned to normal. Kaya looked at Jin with little concern but then at Romulus with even a more worried expression, it appeared she had tears in her eyes. Jin patted her head and traced his eyes along her gaze as he noticed Romulus’s leg. It was evident that due to his earlier movements, he had sustained a serious injury. As he looked at Romulus’s foot, he realized that there was quite a bit of blood on the floor. To make sure, he used his heat vision and saw plenty of heat signatures around them. ”Romulus..” he said in a grim tone, ”… I think we found the Rune knights”. Jin had just noticed the blood on the forest floor and on the trees around them.
The thick fog had hidden the scene but now they were close enough to see it. The blood was not fresh but it could still be smelled and felt and seen through heat vision. The bodies were still there and now the smell began to emerge. Due to some reason, the scent had been completely negligible so far. By walking through the forest for quite a while, the two had finally stumbled on the location of the Rune knights. Sadly, none of them were alive. Before the two could begin looking around, something appeared in the distance. It was the thick fog that prevented them to see what it actually was but it seemed to have the general structure of a human. The thing that was responsible for the inhuman massacre and the events so far had finally decided to show up.

Romulus listened as Jin talked. As soon as he had mentioned it, the smell of blood had hit Romulus like a pile of bricks. It was easy to tell that multiple people had died and their bodies were still present. Romulus tenderly shifted himself so he could see the lifeless Rune Knights. He had barely gotten to see the bodies when a strange figure appeared in the distance and took all of his attention away from the morbid scene.
Romulus could tell almost nothing about the figure except that it was fairly humanoid in nature. Though there was no proof for his theory, Romulus was confident that figure was what had committed the atrocities to the Rune Knights. He restrained himself from rushing towards the figure, in hopes that his partner would have some sort of plan for dealing with it, however Romulus was unable to tell if Jin had even noticed the being off in the distance. The fact that Jin still hadn't said anything made it harder and harder for Romulus to hold himself back. But thanks to his injured leg, his self control was higher than usual. The longer that the wolf mage stood there, the more his magic flared up, sending his hair flying wildly around his head in tendril like spikes. The more his magic surged forth, the smaller the spires of hair became, making his hair even more disheveled. Romulus also began to dig his still usable foot into the ground so that he could have as much of a launch as he could when he finally did spring towards the figure off into the distance. He had no idea how powerful the creature would be, or how it had killed all of those Rune Knights, but he did know it needed to be dealt with.

The place where the two mages stood was where many humans had recently lost their lives. It was a place to mourn and possibly bury those unfortunate ones. Jin would do that but not right now. The monster who had mercilessly done in the Rune Knights was now in front of them. ”We will bury the dead and mourn them… but now, we must deal with what’s in front of us” he said to his friend who had by now noticed the creature. The creature didn’t waste much time and launched an attack directed at Jin. Something dark and tentacle like headed towards Jin as it cut the trees it came into contact with. With little time to react and still weary from the previous damage Jin stepped aside letting it cut his left shoulder. The cut wasn’t deep but blood began to gush out of it. ”Impeccable speed but you’re relying on distance. So now I know how you fight” he analyzed his opponent’s way of fighting.
To match the opponent’s strengths and weaknesses, Jin summoned two warriors to fight alongside him. One of them carried two twin pistols while the other had a small axe in his hand and a bunch of bags filled with axes. Both of them were ranged fighters who relied on guns and throwing axes respectively. Meanwhile, Kaya having witnessed such a horrifying scene, couldn’t hold on to her consciousness and fainted. One of the warriors carefully picked up the little tiger and placed her in a safe spot for now. Once again, the tentacle like attack was launched at Jin. Being the one to draw the attack he braced himself while the two warriors launched their attacks in the direction the tentacles had come from.
The tentacles crashed into Jin resulting in a direct hit. However, that was intentional on Jin’s part. He had taken the damage only to be able to grab the tentacles which he had now accomplished. Thanks to that, the creature was no longer able to attack. ”Now!” he said as he began to alter the temperature of the tentacles. The warriors launched their attacks with great speed. In addition to those attacks, a large arrow formed above Jin’s head and propagated towards the target as he used his spell: Bird of Hermes. All of these events happened in quick succession and now the arrow had just struck. Jin had used a cold based arrow as he continued reducing the temperature of the tentacles. The result was a large smoke cloud and probably quite a bit of frozen space where Jin’s attack had landed. He wasn’t sure if that had sealed the deal though.
