Romulus watched as a tentacle lashed out from the creature towards Jin. It was incredibly fast and drew blood from him. Romulus snapped in that instance. He dashed forward with a speed boost from his wing spell, ignoring the further shattering that happened in his right leg. The further breaking had actually sent part of his right tibia through the higher tension muscles in his leg, leaving a blood trail along his path. He did not stop to consider how the spell had affected his bone structure. When he reached the monster at the end of the tentacle, Romulus cast Claws of the Wolf but the creature lashed out with a tentacle first. The slender object slashed across Romulus' forearm, cutting down the bone and redirecting the attack. The creature wasted no time slapping Romulus across the chest with a second tendril, sending him tumbling across the forest floor with more than a couple of broken ribs. At the point Romulus came to a stop, he layed bloody and broken. An unconscious monument to what overconfidence and a lack of restraint could do to a mage. He wasn't conscious to see Jin strike the monster down, or to see the pages the monster dropped when it was defeated. It was impossible to tell if Romulus would learn any sort of lesson from this defeat, but what was certain was that after the conclusion of this job, he would be out of commission for a very long time. These injuries were not minor, but were thankfully not lethal.

It was a gruesome battle, Kaya had lost her conscious and Romulus had suffered grave injuries. Thanks to the combined efforts of both mages, the creature was defeated. Before Jin could get close to see what it really was, the fog thickened. The creature than escaped and disappeared, in the same way it had appeared. There was no trace, no sensation left of its existence. He could see a few pages where they had taken down the creature. Jin picked up the pages and read them, it appeared this was not the end but rather the beginning of this nightmare. However, this was no time to solve riddles. With the help from his summoned warriors, he moved him back into civilization where he was attended by the local doctors. After leaving Romulus for a little while at the local hospital, Jin came back to where the bodies of the Rune knights were. He couldn’t just leave them in their current condition. Along with some locals, they made graves for those who had lost their lives. A few of them had relatives in the area; for better or worse, their search for the lost knights had ended.

When they finally buried the Rune knights, it had begun to rain. Everyone stood with an umbrella but Jin didn’t pay any attention to that. He stood at the graves of the Rune knights, ”Today, we mourn these soldiers who gave their lives to protect us”. This was followed by silence and then everyone departed from this sight. The magic council was informed of the incident and the details about the Rune knights was delivered. Then Jin arranged for transportation and escorted his injured comrade back to their guild island. This nightmare was far from over but at least the current job was finished.

    The End
