Job Title: A Wizard's Grace

Rank: D-Ranked Wizard (Solo Only)

Player Requirements: Thread must be 20 posts long. 200 Words per post. May only be completed ONCE by the character attempting the Job.

Job Requirements: Must defeat at least 5 groups of Plant Demons! Without using magic that can damage the crops and farms of Beanstalk Village! If the Boss is rolled; the curse on the crops will disappear; but you now have to face off against the Dark Wizard who cursed them in the first place!

Job Location: Beanstalk Village

Job Description: Beanstalk Village; nestled in the most northern forests of Fiore alongside the Clover River. This village is responsible for a good bit of Fiore's farm and produce production alongside River Village, and Peace Village. Everything from vegetables, too beef, too steak, too pork can come from here.

However; all crops in the village; have whithered and grown thorns. Quite strange no? They also glow with a strange light; as if some kind of bad magics are at work; holding the crops into this foul state.

There aren't any wizards in the village; so they're completely baffled how entire crop fields of wheat, corn, and tomatoes could just sprout black thorns, wither, and glow. It's very, very, VERY; strange to them.

However; when you arrive; the cursed plants react to your magic power; revealing to the villagers the source of the problem. Plant Demons; feeding off of their crops.

The Plant Demons appear; popping up in waves. They look quite cute; each Plant Demon either has a head and body made up of whatever vegetable it is; with thin white legs and arms; and glowing red eyes with a mouth that they love to use to eat real crops; and too trash talk.

They will pop out of the ground randomly when they sense Magic Power for the first time in Beanstalk Village; and attack. The curse will wear off when you dispose of the Plant Demons.

Enemies:

Weak: Tomato Plant Demon x10 (D-Ranked, these Demons are real trash talkers; nothing is off limits to them. With a body like a giant tomato. Despite their tough talk; they're very weak and go down in just two hits of D-Ranked damage each; they will try to belly flop and body slam their opponents; their special technique is 'Tomato Juice Cannon'; which blasts their opponent with a stream of ketchup from their mouth; careful it packs a punch and deals D-Ranked damage and knockback that will lift you off your feet if hit.)

Normal: Corn Plant Demon x5 (D-Ranked, these Demons have a body like a giant corn cob. They don't talk tough; but think themselves very stylish. They will attempt to body flop, and body ram opponents much like the Tomato Plant Demons. Their special technique is 'Corn Corn Cannon' in which they exhale a stream of Corn, flying at bullet speed. They hurt like hell; equivalent to almost having baseballs thrown at you. Enough of them will K.O even tough wizards. This deals C-Ranked damage if hit. The Corn Plant Demons go down in 3 hits of D-Ranked damage each.)

Strong: Broccolli Plant Demon x10 (C-Ranked, these demons have a body like broccolli with glowing red eyes. They are very fast; and will charge opponents quickly with shoulder rams, and punches. Their special technique is 'Broccolli Swat'; in which they cock their body back like a gigantic fly swatter, and slam their Broccolli heads down on their opponent in a gigantic smash. This deals C-Ranked damage, and can K.O quite easily. If caught off guard you will be slow to move around and be sore for the next post. The Broccolli Plant Demons go down in 5 hits of D-Ranked damage each.)

Boss: Dark Wizard (The one who put the curse on the entire Farmlands of Beanstalk Village; this guy is not to be trifled with. He is an middle aged man with an extremely impressive beard; wearing dark robes. He uses Curse Magic. Once per turn; he will try to make one of your limbs like jelly, as well as cause you to see and hear things that aren't there. His Curse spells can do everything from make you blind, make you not able to hear, paralyze one limb, make you not be able to speak, and the ability to make your own spells backfire on you. If you roll a 'Failed Block'; you will be Cursed with one of these effects, takes 15 hits of D-Ranked damage to bring this guy down.)

Ryo sighed as he walked towards the village that had a giant beanstalk in the center of it. Truly this gigantic plant was the reason that the village was named “Beanstalk” village. It wasn’t an ugly village in fact it looked very nice from the outside so Ryo had to assume that it also looked very nice from the inside as well. He continued to walk until he made it into the village. His presence was noticed right away simply because this village had a very specific dress to them. He was quickly approached by someone who looked very important. The elderly gentleman spoke to him “Are you the wizard who is going to rid us of our curse?” Ryo smiled and pulled his hat off putting it over his heart as he bowed his head “I shall do my best to free you of your curse, I make no promises to succeed only the promise that I will give my life trying.” The man looked a bit taken aback as he simply nodded his head and turned “Very well then. Follow me.” The man walked away from Ryo, but the wizard followed him. The pair of them walked through the village until they arrived at several different farm fields. The man stood there and spoke “This has happened some time ago. We can’t harvest this food because we can’t eat it. We can’t destroy the crops and begin anew because this plague follows them. We have nothing that has been able to reverse it. We need a Wizard’s help.” Ryo walked forward a bit and knelt down gently rubbing the soil near one of the plants. As he did he suddenly looked up to see the plants moving. He jumped back and pulled out eight cards, three from his element, and uses deck and two from his regular deck “You might want to leave.” The man watched and then nodded “Please don’t destroy our crops. It is so very hard to replant them.” With that he quickly ran off leaving Ryo to his work. Ryo watched as the plants began to move even more coming to life.

Ryo watched as a stalk of corn began to shake and tremble. He readied himself for whatever could come, but what happened astonished him. The stalk shook and trembled but soon it shot out a single cob. This cob of corn began to grow in size and soon it sprouted out legs. With eyes and a mouth the corn was for all intents and purposes alive. It looked at Ryo and shook it’s whole body “What an unstylish wizard.” Ryo’s eyes went wide for a moment until he realized what it had said and then he frowned “What do you mean?!” The corn demon laughed “Look at you so gaudy and ugly! Whereas ME I am the peak of style!” Ryo’s eyes narrowed in his anger his teacher had given him his hat and coat they were precious to him. Now this corn cob was going to pay. He pulled out his earth card and the melee card in his hand and put them into his right hand. He muttered “Attack Combo: Earth Hammer!” In his right hand earth began to form and mold becoming a one handed Warhammer. He ran towards the corn demon and it was too busy admiring itself to notice that he was coming for it. With a powerful swing Ryo smashed his hammer into the demon and sent it tumbling out of the crops and onto a path between the crop fields. Once the hammer had hit it began to crumble away in his hand.

As the Corn Cob stopped rolling it looked at Ryo with death in its eyes “Well I’ve never! You strike me just because you are jealous of my style! Well don’t worry I will put you out of your misery!” The corn demon leapt as high as it could into the air and then pointed himself towards Ryo head first. Ryo was a bit scared, but he quickly pulled up the next three cards from his hand these were the regular playing cards plus the wind element card. He threw all three of these hoping that it would have some effect. As the corn monster sailed at him all three cards hit, but if it had any effect it didn’t show. Ryo gasped as he jumped and rolled away from the corn demon’s fall. The corn demon hit the ground but got up rather quickly. Ryo was almost as quick and he threw the last of his available cards. As it flew the card turned into a bolt of lightning and struck the demon in the face. The demon yowled in pain and agony, and much to Ryo’s humor all of the kernels around the demon’s face popped out of its head as popcorn.

Ryo took advantage of the demon’s horrified face in order to stuff the cards back into his deck box taking a new hand consisting of the same set up before. He looked to see the one white card he drew and shook his head. “What good is an absorb card going to do? This clown doesn’t use element magic.” He rolled his eyes and shook his head returning his attention back to the corn demon. It roared as it finally registered the popcorn came from its own face. He stopped his foot repeatedly and charged Ryo full speed. Ryo looked at his hand and acted quickly. He began to run backwards as he could. He didn’t manage to get two steps before he smashed against a tool shed. He groaned in pain and the corn demon stopped smirking. It opened its mouth and began to shoot a stream of corn at him as fast as it could. Ryo ducked and as he did he threw both normal cards, one of the metal element cards he drew, and the water element card. The water card, and one of the normal cards were quickly shreaded by the corn. The other two slammed against the corn demon’s mouth causing it to tilt back spraying the air with the corn now. Ryo took advantage of this and quickly ran behind the tool shed.

The demon stopped once he saw Ryo had run behind the shed. It began to laugh and it walked closer to it “aww don’t think you’ll get away! I’m going to kill you for what you did to me!” as it spoke Ryo began to work. He finally smiled as he saw the black cards in his hand glow showing they were ready. He quickly placed them on the ground and whispered “Attack Combo: Metal Ball Mine” he ran out the other side of the shed stuffing his old cards back into the deck swearing at how useless they were, before he drew a new hand with one less element card, and now three regular cards. He looked to see more white cards, but still nothing he could use, and the black card was not aglow as he had just used this spell. The demon corn came around the corner and opened its mouth to do its attack again, but stepping that close to the mine set it off and dozens of tiny metal spheres all went flying at the Demon. They shredded his lower half and tore through his legs forcing it to fall face first into the ground. Ryo smirked and tucked away his uses cards “Looks like I won the draw.” He threw all three of his regular cards and then both of his element cards. They all hit the easy target and Ryo smirked walking away as the carrot shrunk and even began to burn from the flames. He turned and walked back over to the fields his smug look vanishing as he saw the state of the gardens hadn’t changed. He walked back into them and frowned deeply “I don’t understand.” As he looked he heard the shaking and rustling of plants moving and turned to watch the culprit.

Ryo swore softly as he watched a single stalk of broccoli slowly stand up and take life much like the corn demon did before. Ryo slowly stood up, but he was too slow. The broccoli charged him and slammed its entire body into him full force. This sent Ryo down into the dirt, and the broccoli kept right on trucking before it whipped around. Ryo quickly got up although he could feel the pain in his body starting to rise. He quickly drew a new hand of cards. He thought more about this hand and smirked. He quickly pulled out the white card and the lightning element card. As the broccoli turned to charge him, when it got closer it raised it right arm and it threw it towards him. Ryo was just as fast “Defense Combo: Lightning Shield!” the cards in his hands turned into a single handed knight’s shield made of lightning. As the broccoli demon slammed its fist into his shield and the shield melted into lightning and it was sent straight into the demon causing it tremendous amounts of pain. Ryo smirked and ran around the demon as he did he threw both his water element card, and his metal card. With these now gone he was quick to threw both of his regular cards now hitting the demon in the back as it continued to be electrocuted from the lightning it had so carelessly collided with. Ryo tucked away his remaining cards and drew a new hand with his classic set up.

Ryo groaned lightly and tucked away cards the one white and one of the black cards he had drawn. He quickly threw the two regular cards at the demon, but this served to now turn the demon towards him and rushed at him. Ryo swore softly and quickly threw the wind and water element cards they both hit the demon without it even slowing down. The demon threw a punch aimed at Ryo’s head, but Ryo dropped from the aim and kicked at the demon’s face his heel hitting in between his eyes and his spur tore the demon’s flesh. The demon bellowed in pain and grabbed Ryo by his leg and threw him at the tool shed. Ryo grunted in pain as he could feel his body want to give out. Ryo looked down and saw that his hat had been knocked off his head and it now lay between him and the demon. Ryo slowly stood up wincing in pain as he did so; the demon didn’t care about his slow body and rushed him again. Ryo quickly drew six of the regular playing cards and threw them in groups of two three groups. The demon hissed in pain with each hit, but it continued to charge him. Ryo waited for a moment and the demon ran even faster just at the last moment before impact Ryo leapt away rolling to keep going. He got up and whipped around facing the demon now.

Ryo watched as the broccoli demon pulled itself out of the tool shed and turned around. Ryo smirked and held up the earth element card and the ‘shot’ black card. He held the earth card behind the shot card and then quickly spoke “Attack Combo: Earth Cannon!” the card in front of him. From the card emerged a giant ball of solid rock that was the size of a cannonball. It shot out at the demon with the speed of a freshly fired cannonball and slammed into the demon. As it hit the demon it shattered scattering tiny rock chips everywhere. The demon stumbled backwards from the surprise, and Ryo took advantage of this moment. He looked at the cards in his hand and selected the regular playing cards, the fire element card, and the enhancement card in his hand and put them into his left hand. He needed only one more card and he knew how to get it. He quickly threw the twin water element cards at the demon. The Broccoli demon ran out of the flight path and then turned to face Ryo. Ryo was quick to stuff away the other black cards; they were useless to him for now. Yet, this wasn’t what he wanted. He wanted free space in his hand. He quickly drew a third regular playing card now he was ready.

Ryo waited for a moment and just stared at the demon. Finally when the demon didn’t move he spoke “Well it’s a shame you’re just a vegetable to be eaten. Poor little stalk.” This seemed to trigger the demon and he rushed forward his head down in a headbutt. Ryo smirked as this was just what he needed. He quickly back peddled and spoke very softly “Burning cards.” He threw the five cards in his hand towards the broccoli demon. After a few meters the cards burst into flame and they collided with the broccoli demon’s head. They began to burn and cook the top of the demon’s head. The demon screamed and yowled shaking it’s head trying to dislodge the flames that were cooking away at it. Ryo took this moment to jump on an opportunity. He drew four element cards and four playing cards. He threw the two lightning cards he just drew first, before he threw two of the playing cards. These cards hit the Demon and caused it further pain. Ryo then threw another fire element card. This one striking the demon just under the already burning part of its stalk. With this in place he threw the wind element card and as it hit it breathed life back into the flames. Finally he emptied his hand by throwing the last two playing cards these hit the demon in both eyes and it fell to the ground rolling around in agony.

Ryo sighed softly as he walked over to his hat. He knelt down and picked it up dusting it off and even blowing on it to try and clean it. Thankfully there wasn’t any damage to his hat and he put it on swiping the brim of it. He suddenly seemed to regain his sense of time and he groaned as he stretched his back shaking his head lightly. He was definitely going to feel all of these slams and such in the morning. He was certainly bruised if nothing else. He turned and looked at the garden, but still there was no sign of the curse lifting or abating. He swore softly as he looked at his playing cards. He was short by at least half a deck, and soon he would be out of one. He quickly checked his pockets and pulled out another deck of playing cards he put this one into his pocket smiling a good gambler always stacked the deck in his favor. So this was his way of stacking it in his favor. He looked to the garden and slowly made his way towards it “Well…I’m not sure what I’m supposed to do now…” He looked around to see more plants moving. He groaned and shook his head lightly “Won’t this day just end already?”

Ryo watched as yet another stalk of broccoli emerged from the ground. It quickly formed arms, and legs with a face that was smirking rather evilly. Ryo groaned loudly and shook his head "I Knew there was a reason I hated Broccoli" He knew what he was facing this time so he was quick to draw eight cards. He smiled as he looked down at his hand. All the elements were fire. This would be a great battle, much, much easier now. He only just looked up in time to see the demon start to charge at him. Ryo was just as quick on the draw as the demon was. He picked up the fire and shield cards holding them out "Defense Combo: Fire Shield!" a shield made of flames began to form in front of Ryo forming into a giant spartan shield. As the Broccoli demon charged into it, it screamed in pain and Ryo could smell the scent of burning plant life. He smirked as the shield went away and he saw the front of the broccoli demon was scorched. He quickly back peddled to get away readying himself for the next attack he knew that this fight had only just begun, and it would be just as hard as the last one.

Defense Cool Down Start

The Broccoli demon rushed towards Ryo and this time he was just a hair faster than Ryo was. He landed a strong punch to Ryo’s stomach and this knocked all the wind out of Ryo’s lungs. He bent forward and coughed and struggled to back up. He was far too slow at this point as the broccoli demon slammed into him full force sending him flying backwards away from the fields and into a wooden fence. Thankfully these things loved to keep him away from the fields so he could use his magic to his heart’s content. He hit the fence and looked up at the demon pulling out two more cards. The demon was already charging him and he quickly picked the cards and threw them “Attack combo: Fire Bomb.” As the cards flew they became a big round almost cartoon looking bomb. The Demon ran into it without thinking and caused it to explode all over its body. Flames licked at every inch of the demon, and thankfully it kept most of the flames around it so none of them would go to the crops. He didn’t want the crops to be burned or ruined, but he wasn’t sure if they were even any good even if he killed a million of these things.

Ryo watched as the Broccoli demon slammed down onto the ground to snuff out the flames that were on him. Ryo smirked and threw his fire element card and the two regular playing cards in his hand and they all hit the target. He quickly tucked away the enhancement card shaking his head lightly. It was a bad idea to keep rapid firing these spells he could feel his magic being sucked away by these spells so now it was time for a different approach. He drew his next hand quickly all 8 of them element cards. The cards were all very helpful, but the demon wasn’t very concerned he was back on his feet. Ryo had to struggle to his feet he was hurting badly, but he was quick on the draw. He threw the three metal element cards at the demon. They all hit their target and this stopped the demon. He looked at Ryo and spoke this time “You little coward!!! Fight like a man!!” it ran at him full speed and Ryo was quick to throw the next two cards at the demon, but they were only water element cards so they did really no damage. The demon just laughed and shook his head “Pathetic!” Ryo nodded his head lightly as he took a few steps closer, but this time he threw two element cards these were lightning elements and as they hit the water helped to conduct the electricity and the demon trembled as he was electrocuted.

Ryo quickly took advantage of this great opportunity in order to draw seven more cards to fill his hand. Once again all of these were element cards. He quickly threw all four of the earth element cards and they hit the Broccoli demon with some force. This snapped the demon out of his shock and he ran at Ryo with much greater speed. Ryo threw his fire and wind element cards, but the demon had caught on to his tricks and it simply side stepped the cards before charging him again. Ryo swore softly shaking his head he knew it was only a matter of time that it would start to do this, but he had hoped it would be a bit later. The Demon came barreling towards him, and as he get closer Ryo threw his last two cards these being lightning element cards. With how close the demon was it couldn’t avoid it and it took the full force of the element cards. It winced, but it kept running at Ryo. He swore softly and leapt out of the way at the last second and rolled around as the demon slammed into the fence breaking that section of it.

He landed on his feet and quickly shot up to his feet pulling out eight playing cards. He quickly threw the cards at the Broccoli demon he threw them four at a time and the moment he was out he quickly drew a new hand and threw them at him two at a time. The demon turned and was slapped in the face repeatedly by the cards. It hissed and tried to move away, but it took a bit too long to do this and 13/16 cards hit him. The Broccoli demon hissed and fell to the ground starting to rot away. Ryo sighed heavily in relief and he sat down panting softly shaking his head lightly “Geez…this mission is so difficult. I can’t believe it is only a D Rank…This is truly surprising.” He slowly stood up and looked at the fields. There was nothing like this that he knew, but it was clear there had to be some kind of magic involved in this. Still he didn’t know what kind of magic could do such a thing to the plants around here. He stepped a bit closer to the fields. He knew this was a bad idea, but he slowly drew a new hand of cards with the classic set up watching the field very closely.

Ryo sighed as he watched another plant in the field begin to rise, stand, and come to life. Ryo watched as it was a Corn Demon. Ryo rolled his eyes and threw his water element card at it as it rose up. Although it hit the Demon it didn’t really have much of an effect. The corn demon was quick on the draw and it turned opening its mouth and began to spit a stream of kernels towards Ryo. Ryo jumped and rolled away pulling up a set of cards “Defense Combo: Wind Dome!” he put the cards at his feet and a dome formed over him but it forced him to lay curled up on his stomach with how small it was. He quickly pulled up a regular playing card so he would have three of them, and now his next attack was ready and primed. The corn demon’s attack shot at the shield and Ryo could hear it deflecting off, but sadly it wouldn’t last forever. When everything went silent Ryo became a bit confused, but soon the sudden smash against the shield signaled that the corn demon had tried to body slam himself against the shield, from the shriek of pain it seems that it didn’t work.

Ryo thought about his next move as his shield went away. He had to do something very different otherwise he would run out of his mana very soon. He had to play this next move smarter. He flipped around as the corn demon charged him “Attack Combo: Metal CannonBall!” The great ball of iron flew out of the card and smashed into the corn demon with great force. The demon had no idea what had hit it, and this forced it back several paces. This bought Ryo enough breathing room to get ready for his next volley of attacks. He tucked away the enhancement card in his hand and drew four new element cards. Now he had almost one of each element. He had to act fast. He quickly threw his playing cards hitting the Corn demon with all of them. The demon shrieked as it struggled to get up to its feet again. Ryo threw his earth element card at the demon, but it failed to hit as the demon was now on its feet. Ryo groaned lightly and threw both his wind and fire element cards. These both hit, but it didn’t have the desired effect of lighting the demon on fire. This was a shame, but not entirely unexpected. He threw his last two cards the water element card flew past the demon completely missing it, but the lightning card found its mark and it smashed into the demon electrocuting it. When the lightning stopped the demon was no more and all that was left was a roasted corn cob in its stead.

Ryo swore as he sat down now breathing harder. He was tired, he was sore, and his body ached from the pain of the broccoli demons attacks, and the fact that he had been fighting the better part of the day. He sat down in the dirt fanning himself with his hat. He didn’t want to go near the fields yet, and he simply wanted to recover from his fight. This would be another tough one he was sure of it, but thankfully he’d have a moment’s respite. Ryo took this time to do inventory after a quick count up he determined that he was down to only a few cards in his playing card deck. His spells were used and now needed to wait and charge. His element cards were still working, but it was a tough struggle. His mind went to his last few barrages and he chided himself in his head. The majority of them had hit sure, but the misses were a clear sign that he was starting to become sloppy. This was truly a sign of his fatigue, and the nice hits he had taken throughout this job. His mind wandered to Ian his partner and he wondered what the wind mage was up to. Still he said nothing as he stood up put his hat back on his head and walked to the fields once more now ready drawing eight cards once more.

Ryo watched the fields with great anticipation he knew another demon had to be arriving to attack him soon, but he wasn’t sure what demon would appear this time. Hopefully, not another Broccoli one; those damned things were tough and he hated them with a great passion. He was relieved as he saw a corn stalk moving and trembling this time. He quickly grabbed both his decks shuffling them. He knew that this special talent had a certain spell about it, and it would hasten his ability to use his spells. This was going to be very good for him as he needed it. The ear of corn shot from the stalk and soon enough it shed its husk, and it slowly began to take shape and form of the demon it was. Ryo smirked and took several steps back. He wanted the demon to come to him after all. He had drawn two fire element cards this time, and he couldn’t risk the village’s crops. He quickly threw the earth element card at the demon, but it slapped it out of the air and thus Ryo now had the demon’s full attention. The demon hissed in anger and opened its mouth shooting a stream of kernels at Ryo. Ryo smirked as he ran to the right and pulled up two cards “Defense Combo: Flame Shield!” He stopped and stood behind a very large shield kneeling on one knee holding the shield in front of him. As the kernels hit the shield the heat caused them to pop into popcorn. The demon saw the futility of its attack and stopped, just as Ryo’s shield vanished.
