Post by Cards 14th January 2014, 5:16 am

Khalisha was dressed a bit differently than usual as she was hanging around in her room at the Blue Pegasus guild hall. She had a pair of long blue cargo pants on that were overly baggy, but somehow looked great on her (like most things she put on), and a tight-fitting black Tee that pushed her breasts up as accentuated her figure very nicely. Over all that, rather than her normal hoody she was wearing a long ankle-length blue cloak that hung open loosely but fluttered nicely whenever she moved. She had been playing a card game -- go fish -- with her friend Julia when she heard a loud, single knock on the door. Sitting cross-legged on the ground, she tilted her head to the side and looked blankly at the door for a few moments, wondering what could have made the noise. What the heck was that?...

Standing up quickly, Khalisha set her hand of cards down; she was losing anyway, because she'd decided not to cheat against the adorable little team mate of hers, so she didn't mind dropping the game for a moment. "Hang on, Jules, I'm gonna see who that was really quick, 'kay?" Khalisha walked up to the door as she spoke, her hips swaying like a runway model's as she walked. Opening the door, she leaned outside, bending over at the hips and pushing her butt up into the air like she always did whenever she bent over (it was a reaction to keep her balance, nothing quite as perverted as it may have looked). She looked from side to side in the hall, trying to spot who had knocked, but she had been too slow to catch the mailman. She looked down, now, and spotted the package that had been left for her, and her face lit up with excitement. Grinning widely, she closed her eyes and doubled over completely in an amazing cat-like show of flexibility. With almost no effort, she just folded over, her upper body parralel with her lower as she grabbed the package, holding the position for a moment to stretch herself out. Then, she stood back up and turned around, walking back into her room and kicking the door closed.

Sitting down, she plopped the package down in front of her and kept on grinning, now directing the smile at Julia. "Look, Juli!~ We got a present!" She said, being particularly fond of presents and just assuming that this was one. She hoped as much, anyway, because it would provide just the confidence boost that she'd been needing lately. She got out her magic cards and selected one out of the deck, channeling her magical energy into it and forming a box-cutter for her to open up the package with. "Here, let's open it up and see what's inside!" She said, dragging the blade against the top of the box and opening it up quickly, peering inside.

What she saw inside the package confused her, making her stop for a moment to try and process what she was looking at. It was a book, and what looked like an audio recording lacrima. She had no idea whatsoever who would want to send her something like this, and it actually worried her slightly. It was a present, so she was happy, but it was eerie that someone knew her name and saw fit to send her bloody stuff... Wait, bloody? Okay, now she was seriously creeped out.

What the heck? Is that really blood?! She thought, picking up the book and sniffing at the stains curiously. She recoiled at the scent, discovering that the blackish-red marks on the book (and on the lacrima too) were, in fact, some poor person's blood. She immediately found herself desperately hoping that whoever sent this was okay, and she had no idea why. She didn't even know the person, but this dark package shook her to the core in such a way that she couldn't stand the thought of the person actually being dead, especially since she immediately assumed that this was some sort of cry for help. Then she remembered that her team mate was just a child, and frantically stuffed the book back into the box and scratched the back of her head nervously. "Oh! Julia... Umm... Ehehehe... I... That was just... Ketchup! Yeah, that's all... Nothing to worry about!"

Soon after trying to cover up what was actually on the book, she realized she was being an idiot. She had to take her partner seriously, no matter what age she was, if they were gonna work dangerous missions together. "Oh, who am I kidding? This is really freaking me out, Jules... That's blood, on that book... I think we should read it, see if it gives us any clues as to who would send this to us...." She said, chewing on the tip of her tongue nervously as she finished speaking. She slowly took the book back out of the box, her hand shaking with nerves as she opened it up and started reading through it, reading it all out loud so that Julia could understand, knowing that the albino cutie pie couldn't read.

    The Contents of The Book:

Shaken further by the strange text, Khalisha slowly put the book down, shivering and getting up. She walked over into the small kitchenette that she had in her room, pouring a glass of water for herself before coming back and sitting down once more, sipping it tenderly and activating the audio lacrima, trying to calm her nerves but knowing she had to learn more about what was going on. She needed to start what she finished, and in the end she knew she'd have to go help whoever sent this package. Knowing that, she figured it would be best if she learned as much as she could, and she had always been very good at maintaining her composure even against the scariest things, so she was sure she could handle it. Still, she wrapped an arm around Julia and held her close, not wanting her to freak out.

    The Audio Lacrima's Logs:

By the time the Lacrima had finished speaking, Khalisha realized she was clenching Julia so tightly that it was almost to the point of hurting the poor little girl. She loosened her grip, looking down at Julia and biting herself on the lip roughly. She knew for sure that they'd have to go take care of whatever was going on in the Spooky forest, and she also knew that it wouldn't be anywhere close to easy. IT actually scared her enough, already, to cause such an uncharacteristic show of nerves, but she knew she'd be able to handle whatever scary thing happened once they got there.... Or, at least, she hoped she could handle it, mostly for Julia's sake if she was gonna drag the little girl along with her. "Julia... You know we have to go and try to help them, don't you? It's our job now... They sent this to us with their last actions, whoever they were... Maybe it was that Lars fellow... Are you ready for this? You don't have to come with me if you don't want to.."

Job - Nightmare Incarnate: The Beginning Empty Re: Job - Nightmare Incarnate: The Beginning

Post by Julia Neviccare 14th January 2014, 5:28 am

Julia would be playing the game merrily as she would declare aloud, "Go fish!" She was actually totally unaware of the rules of the game and had been declaring go fish when she had the card that Khalisha needed and kept on asking about cards she didn't have, believing she needed to complete her collection. Yet the game was rather rudely interrupted by a knock on the door. Very loud in fact. Khalisha would open the door and bring in the box, opening it and the events would transpire so that Julia would look at the bloody book with a bit of disinterest. "Blood? Hmm..." she would mutter to herself. As such, the contents of the book then the following audio lacrima were very clearly leading up to the entire mystery being solved right there. "He was murdered?" Julia would question with a curious tone aloud. Khalisha would volunteer herself to go it alone, if Julia didn't want to go, but Julia would glance one more time at the book and giggle a bit, "Must be game! The Rune Knights want play game with us, yay!" She would immediately grab her lunchbox and begin to run off towards the train station to get to the spooky forest.

The tension that Khalisha had been feeling was immediately broken by the cute little girl's reaction to the whole situation. She didn't seem to realize how scary it actually was, such a mysterious book and audio log. That, and the blood... She was either totally unaware of the strangeness and scariness of the situation, or was simply very jaded to such fear (Which, now that Khalisha thought about it, was entirely likely). "You're right! Hehe... Yep! Just a game!" She said, her mind still racing over what could have actually been going on. What kind of terrifying monster would be waiting for them when they arrived in the spooky forest? She got her deck together, picking up the playing cards that they'd been playing Go Fish with as well for use as a weapon, if such a thing became necessary. Come on, Khali... You're no scaredy cat, so let them unleash cerberus itself! She said in an attempt to reassure herself, taking a deep breathe as she and Julia boarded the train to head out to the spooky forest and uncover the hidden truth behind the mysteries presented to them today.

"Hey, when we get there, we should try and find out what happened to the rest of the pages.." Khalisha said to Julia on the train ride, pulling the book out once more and showing Jules that there were a good number of ripped-out pages.

Julia would wander into the Spooky Forest now after a few hours of walking... and immediately she noticed that there was a presence watching her. "Oh yeah. This place is perfect for game," she would say, her eyes like predators as she would continue walking along. The mist was very thick, but she saw a mysterious figure in the distance. "There..." she would say with a sigh pointing out the shadowy outline of what appeared to be a person. She would giggle a bit after she regained her composure, having felt a surge of violent nature roll through her. Julia was actually primmed for fighting things of this nature. "Ignore it, probably just traveler," she would say aloud, probably calming down Khalisha a bit more than she needed to calm herself down. Of course, Julia figured that thing might matter later, she was very attentive to details like this, especially when she needed to solve a mystery.

"Well, yeah! Of course it is... That's why the rune knights picked it, right?" Khalisha said as Julia went on thinking this was some sort of game. Then she noticed the figure out in the thick of the woods, Julia pointing it out a moment afterwards. She flinched at first, as she saw it. It seemed to match what the audio log said about seeing silhouettes in the forest... She shook her head when Julia said it was probably just a traveler. "If there actually is a scary demon in this forest, the traveler would at the very least be running, trying to call out for help... Plus, that figure matches what we heard about.. But it's not all that scary, now that I see it. I feel kinda silly for being afraid of it.." Khalisha scratched her head and let out a relieved bit of laughter. "Though, you could be right, and it doesn't seem to be coming at us for now, so we can just keep looking. We're here to search for the knights, and what happened to them, after all."

Khalisha had just finished talking about how not-scary the thing was, when she let out a sharp yelp as she went flying backwards into a tree, grunting as she collided with it. She coughed slightly and looked around, trying to figure out what had done this to her, but there was nothing. It was as if the thing had flung her with it's mind, and that seriously freaked her out. It was officially a bit more scary, that was for sure. Then she realized she'd lost sight of Julia, and in a bit of a panic she looked around, spinning in place until she spotted the little snow-colored girl and let out a sigh of relief. She would have been pushed as well, which was why Khalisha lost sight of her momentarily, and Khalisha now took up her place next to Julia once more. "W-woah.. Freaky." She said, looking over her shoulder at the figure. Her eyes widened as she saw it.. It seemed to have gotten closer. She grabbed Julia's hand quickly and started strolling along at an enhanced pace, looking over her shoulder the entire time, not wanting to take her eye off the thing. "Keep looking for those knights, I'll keep an eye on our friend over there... Okay Jules?"

Post by Julia Neviccare 14th January 2014, 9:37 am

Julia would watch as Khalisha would fly off out of literally nowhere, and slam into a tree, which was an incredibly worrisome event, as Julia lacked in the physical department what was needed to hand a lot of fights. Not to mention that Khalisha was the closest thing to a mother figure Julia had to look up to anymore. She would run after Khalisha in order to see if she was okay, Julia noticed the coughing almost too quickly, and worry would shoot through her mind, yet she was smacked away by the same force, and landed in a bush. Julia would stare at the sky for a moment, wondering what had happened, only for Khalisha to have come running over worried, just like Julia had intended to. Ironic, if nothing else. Julia would get back up out of the bushes. "Yes, I agree. Spooky," she would say. As they would walk forward in a hurried pace, Khalisha looking over her shoulder, Julia would blink as a huge freaking boulder was flying at the two of them. Julia would react quickly, turning to tackle Khalisha to the ground, as the boulder would fly overhead, slamming into some trees, and breaking them with ease. "Angry spirits maybe?" Julia would suggest.

Khalisha was glad that Julia was okay, and as they walked she even started to calm down a bit. That was when she felt herself being tackled to the ground by the little one. She didn't resist it at all, just sort of went with it, which was good because had she resisted even for a moment, she would have slowed down her fall just long enough to be squashed by the huge boulder. She looked at the crushed trees with wide eyes, and immediately picked up Julia and started running, forgetting about watching the ghastly figure that was following them. Or, at least, she put the thing to the back of her mind. She didn't freak out easily, but this was getting too serious. She needed to find somewhere more defensible and soon, maybe a clearing or something. As she ran with Julia in her arms, she suddenly went flying up into the treetops, sent sprawling into the air by another poltergeist. She screamed as she flew through the air, holding Julia tight and taking the majority of the damage from the branches smacking against her (it was little more than scratches and small bruises, but it was enough to hurt and Julia was little and probably not as durable). Then, she fell onto the ground once more, falling on her butt and crimping her tail painfully, yelping and tearing up on sheer reaction. She got up again, setting Julia down and taking her hand. "Better let you run on your own, I don't wanna take you up into the air with me again..." She said, sounding way more shaken than she realized. She was starting to panic.. It seemed they couldn't get away from the strange figure, and all these freaky things kept happening. "Come on, let's go. We need to find that clearing that the guy from the logs was talking about... We can pick up on their trail from there, I think." She said, taking off in a full-on run, though she paced herself a bit after a few steps, realizing Julia probably couldn't keep up on foot. With her other hand, she stacked the Travel card onto the top of her deck, along with Fly and paralyze. She was getting ready to turn and fight, in case she had to soon.

Everything was happening too quickly for her to keep up with. One moment the boulder plows through a tree, the next, Julia was cradled in the catgirl's arms and being carried away from the fallen tree. Whatever the heck was going on, Julia was pretty sure it was the fault of that bastard in the mist. She would begin to prepare generating a snowball in her hand, to throw at the guy, but then Julia and Khalisha were both literally flying over the treetops. Julia would snap into action the instant they were about to hit the ground, and she would wave her hand and declare, "Snow Cloud!" A white powdery substance formed out of the mist and formed a single pillowy cloud to land on. This cushioned the fall to almost unbelievable levels of comfort, though it was much colder than one would anticipate the ground being. When Khalisha would open her eyes in surprise the soft landing, however, Julia would be gone. Julia instead lay in some obscure part of the forest somewhere not necessarily in view, but at least nearby. "Khalisha?" she would call weakly, a bit scared now that she was alone.

Khalisha paused for a moment as she realized that Julia wasn't actually there at all, and the person who's hand she was holding was just another stupid poltergeist. It was a perfect rendition of Julia, except it had wild red and yellow eyes and pitch black skin, with a sinister grin on it's face. Khalisha screamed when she saw this, and recoiled swiftly, the image disappearing into thin air as she let go of it. Thankfully, Khalisha's ears were very good, and she heard the real Julia's weak cry for her. She was scared almost brainless by everything going on, but she wasn't about to let Julia be alone any longer than she already had been, and she immediately rushed through the underbrush of the forest, scratching her arms on trees and bushes, removing her cloak as it got caught on one of the thornier ones. She dropped to her knees and hugged Julia tightly once she found the little girl, and grabbed her hand now, taking a moment to make sure that it was in fact the real Julia, and not just a geist. "It's really you, right?" She asked, but the question was pointless, as Khalisha could clearly see that this was the real Julia. Then she started walking along hastily, looking around nervously and hoping that the thing, whatever it was, was gone. OF course, she spotted it again, and the hair on the back of her neck stood up as chills ran down her spine. "Dammit! Just go away, you bastard! Leave us alone already, we're just trying to find out what happened to those knights!" She shouted at it, getting angry due to her fear of the thing. She shook her head as the thing just stood there and watched them, and she turned to run in the opposite direction, taking Julia along with her, hopefully.

Post by Julia Neviccare 14th January 2014, 11:10 am

The poltergeists were finally starting to get to Julia. An illusion would manifest before her, of Khalisha being attacked by wild black tendrils of spiked badness in general. The bloody scene before her was almost maddening and made Julia drop to her knees in defeat. A second friend... killed before her by something vile. Julia wept slightly before an embrace from Khalisha from behind was granted, freeing her from the poltergeist's illusions. She would begin to weep a bit, "This place scary. Don't die Khalisha." Julia would whimper a bit. As she would look at the odd figure. She would be snatched up a second time by Khalisha and they would run away from the figure which would stride towards them at a leisurely pace. Julia would grit her teeth in rage as the fog would finally thicken up and the figure would be gone, along with its presence to her. This of course... was more unsettling.

Khalisha nodded simply at Julia's request, resolving to survive this all for the little girl's sake, more than her own. She was far more concerned with Julia's well-being than her own, which may prove dangerous later, but for now it would likely be enough to help Julia get through this, too. "Don't worry, Julia. I'll never die!" Khalisha exclaimed proudly, continuing to run with Julia. She felt a bit calmed by the fact that the figure had disappeared from sight, and she referred to the wise old turn of phrase; "Out of sight, out of mind". She managed to re-focus her mind on finding the clearing that the rune knights had been in, and in know time she burst through the trees into a wide open field. At least, it seemed like a field compared to the dense foliage Khalisha had just been running through. In truth, it was little more than a large open patch. There didn't seem to be any signs of the rune knights in this clearing, other than a clear path on the other side, marked by sword cuts to knock down the plants that were in the way. She took a few steps into the clearing, before stopping suddenly. Her eyes widened for a moment as her sensitive ears were filled with strange, ancient mutterings, a few sick and twisted whispers of violence, pain, torture, and violation. It was all topped off by cruel laughter resonating throughout the clearing, but Khalisha soon was able to shake free of the words. The promises they made of what would happen to her were all complete bluffs, in the end, and she knew it, because she had already resolved to get through this for Julia's sake. So she just forced herself to press on into the clearing, holding Julia close and refusing to let go.

It had been a long while since the figure had been gone. At least an hour or two since the last poltergeist assault, Julia was actually finding more fear in the peace at hand than she was finding in when the poltergeists were actually harassing them actively. Julia and Khalisha were apparently safe by this point, merely exploring the Spooky Forest. Julia would pipe up after a while, "We are lost." Julia had a pretty grand natural sense of direction from all that traveling she had to do, but she couldn't just naturally figure out which way they were supposed to go. Her words were pretty solid in the fact, but the mischievous spirits would play yet another prank just as Khalisha would respond to this, as from the trees fell a bloodied corpse, dangling by the neck from a rope. It wore the standard attire for a Rune Knight. Julia's eyes would thin a bit at this, hearing this man's death wails was completely unneeded for her to feel fear from the sight. Of course, Julia would look at the corpse closer, and notice something, "This man was lacerated brutally and bled dry." Julia would know, she watched to process before.

Khalisha's feet had grown quite tired from all the walking, and her spirit had fatigued similarly from the constant looming fear of the situation. Normally an excited, playful kitty, she was now weary and her back was arched as she crossed her arms over her chest. The hour(s) that had passed since the tall man had gone away had not been kind to her, but she wouldn't give in so easy. Suddenly, Julia said something about being lost that was so matter-of-fact that it broke the tension a bit and made Khalisha giggle. "Yeah, I'd say so... This for-" She was cut off by a cadaver suddenly dropping down in front of her. By now, everything was freaking her out quite an appropriate amount, so she jumped back and let out a bit of a shriek. Then she sighed, shaking her head and groaning. "Damn this forest... It won't even let me get a full sentence in..." The method in which the rune knight died -- Khalisha knew well enough not to question a fellow mage, not to mention team mate, regardless of their age, on such a matter -- only served to freak Khalisha out more. Now all she could think about was such a thing happening to poor Julia, and this caused her to stand a little closer to the girl, laying a hand gently on her shoulder. "I think we should get ou-" And, of course, Khalisha was interrupted by another geist. Surprise. Still she couldn't help but be terrified by the situation as the fog thickened in certain areas until it formed foggy apparitions that bore scythes and wore long hooded cloaks. They looked like two grim reapers, and each one had a faintly burning lantern, and on those lanterns were the name 'Khalisha Unico' and the name 'Julia Neviccare', each lantern baring a different name. This was particularly scary, since the two mages had not mentioned their last names at all since they had been in the forest, and Khalisha's ears stood up straight. She instinctively hissed violently at the apparitions, grabbing Julia's shoulder tightly and running in the opposite direction, turning left and attempting to continue into the forest by making an arc around the ghastly figures. Along her 'flight' path, however, she tripped on something, falling face first into something squishy. Of course, with the shot of slight pain from falling, she realized that the figures were likely just another illusion, but for some reason she smelled iron now. Pulling up, she looked down and saw another bloodied corpse; she'd fallen face-first into the chest cavity of some poor rune knight who'd had only his important organs removed after his chest was torn open. It was a horrifying, traumatizing experience, and Khalisha scrambled backwards, letting go of Julia, a look of terror on her face as she was too paralyzed to scream. She had never experienced something like this before, and even someone brave like her would freak out when falling face first into a dead guy's bloody, gory chest while some insane killer is loose somewhere in the forest and ghosts are jerking them around. Looking around briefly, she saw no sign of the psycho, but the rune knights were (almost) all accounted for in the small clearing they'd stumbled into, each very uniquely slaughtered, presumably by the fore-mentioned psycho.

Julia's heart was pumping... it wasn't just about the fear anymore, it was about the absolute rage. She couldn't keep herself focused on being calm anymore. Julia's head now rested against the corpse of another rune knight. "This one. I see..."] she would mutter to herself without actually looking at him. She would stand up and begin wiping the blood from her hair, this level of fury in her eyes that would show up with some kind of unforgiving aura about her. Julia was afraid, but more so, she was pissed. And not just in a childish temper tantrum way. Something about this whole situation struck her on a whole psychological level, a primal rage was building. "I don't know who did this, but it would have to be pretty sick to do all of this with such an amount of pleasure," she would say. With that, she would begin to proceed towards Khalisha, but was blasted away by a random force generated by a poltergeist. She would fly over tree tops, and land back on her snow cloud, swooping in to save the day. "Hey, I can see the way out from here," she would say.
