Victoria watched Kite make a second go at Coffin Up Candy and this time come away with a saccharine prize for his efforts. He generously shared some with her and once she had taken a few pieces for herself he and Victoria headed for the Costume Contest and entered it. She had expected a serious competition full of high-quality costumes like the ones she and Kite were wearing, but to her considerable surprise there did not seem to be very many of those. Most of the costumes were of the good old Halloween standbys the werewolf and the vampire... the costume quality of each person was decent, but they did not really stand out much.
However, one person stood out from the crowd and they chose to portray the unforgettable character of the Headless Horseman. They had obviously put a lot of effort into the outfit because every detail was impeccable... Victoria could not help but to wonder how many Jewels the wearer put into it. She genuinely admired the costume because it was so detailed and the person had the posture and mannerisms down so well that it looked like the character had stepped right out of a storybook. Kite, Victoria, and the Headless Horseman were urged to go onto the stage by the person in charge of the contest and the brunette followed her guildmate while taking the occasional glance at the third contestant.
The trio got onto the stage and she, Kite, and the Headless Horseman were standing before the audience, who were tasked with choosing the person they believed had the best costume by voting in a poll. Victoria thought that it would be between Kite and the other person because their costumes had a more distinct visual flair to them than hers did. Her guildmate looked like a streetwise tough guy who was no stranger to violence and the other person looked almost exactly like the mythical character and had the posture and air of intimidation that one would expect from the Headless Horseman. Kite and the other person would probably go head-to-head for the win. Victoria's eyes remained focused on the crowd, perhaps to a robotic degree, but she could not help that because she was more than a little nervous.
When the contest winner was being announced Victoria's heart rate went up and she listened for the name of the winner. When her name was announced her face showed genuine surprise because she honestly thought one of the other two contestants would be the one to win. She would not have been mad if that was the case because both Kite and the other person had very good costumes and portrayed their characters well. Victoria was surprised by the unexpected victory, but she made it a point to thank the audience before complimenting both Kite and the Headless Horseman on their costumes.
The brunette could not believe that she had won, but she was not going to complain. Tonight had started off rough with the roller coaster ride but had turned out a lot better than she thought it would thanks to Kite. The blue-haired mage had helped turn what looked to be a bad night into one that she would remember for a long time and in a good way.
