Description:
The devastation of Felidae is an event that will be remembered by the world for lifetimes, a tragic prologue to a bloody war that would soon follow it. But for the Joyans, it served as a cruel lesson of what blind kinship can purchase. And worst of all was the onset of the God-Kissed army that rushed in after the devastation to paint the streets crimson with the blood of the bewildered and confused. Homes were ransacked, men and women were abused and any that were lucky enough to survive were shackled and dragged behind the warband as prizes for their pillaging. There was no telling what tokens and remembrances were taken by the brigands alongside the lives that were ripped away.
But one such item has found its way out of the shadows of a convoluted past. A staff, crafted from the arm of a preserved draconic creature and adorned with glowing blue feathers from a long-forgotten avian. This is the Icon of Ruination and it carries with it a bloody heritage nearly as violent and treacherous as the Tragedy of Felidae ever was. The origins of the Joyan’s mutation into anthropomorphic humanoids have never been outright discovered, the stories weaved into myths and tales among the wandering tribes. Yet one such tale does not paint their ancestors in the colorful, meaningful light that many have come to hear. Before the Apex Chieftain was decided through the trials of the Obsidian Caverns, rule was established through power and domination. The Blooded, as the leader was once called, ruled through fear and respect, acting as the vanguard of their army and conqueror of those unwise enough to stand in their way.
Legend tells of one such Blooded that sought to unite Joya and bring the rest of the world to heel. They believed that their bodily changes were natural evolution, proving that they were destined to be the ruling race over Earthland. Yet his people, fierce and strong, couldn’t conquer the world within his lifetime without grander numbers. It is said that he sought to transform Joya itself into a war machine, molding the mud, grass, and stone into weapons of war that would trample the lands and leave their enemies without a means to fight back. Through magic cursed and unspoken of, the Blooded created multiple staffs to fulfill his dream, only for his goals to come to a swift end at the blade of another challenger. And the staves were lost to time.
An ancient, horrible tale that many Joyans laughed off as myth. Yet there is no denying that the timing of the mythical staff’s uncovering, coupled with the shared wrath by the people of Joya, is quite suspect.
