Then there was the pain in her right arm.
Victoria knew better than to fire the heavy revolver with only one hand, but due to various reasons she had no choice in the matter, not unless she wanted to die by Kalama's hands or under the angry horse's hooves. So far her decision to gamble on using the revolver one-handed was paying off, but her opponent was tough and the fight was not going to be decided by a single shot like in action movies. Kalama had taken multiple shots and was still going strong, a kind of toughness which Victoria could not help but to admire, if only a little.
Focusing on regaining her revolver, Victoria took a baby step towards the weapon when Death Metal Horse sprang into action, moving towards her so quickly that she had little time to track the steed before it was dangerously close to her. The horse's sudden arrival made Victoria temporarily retreat because her survival was more important than getting the revolver right this instant. Getting it would do her no good if she got badly hurt by the angry horse before she could use it against Kalama.
Victoria tried to jump back to avoid the horse's front hooves as they moved towards her in a forceful kick, but her left leg refused to cooperate and she suddenly collapsed to her knees. That was a lucky mishap because she felt the horse's hooves fly by her head as she dropped. Had it happened a second later there was a very good chance her head would have been turned into an unrecognizable mess by the force put behind the kick. However, she was not out of danger yet because she was still perilously close to her four-legged adversary.
The danger was amplified because she was kneeling in a vulnerable position in front of a very angry horse that clearly wanted her dead and was doing its best to end her life. She needed to get off of her knees and put some distance between it and her, so she quickly and painfully forced herself up to her feet using her right arm and pushing against the ground before it was too late. Victoria had just gotten to her feet when her equine adversary launched another forceful kick by rearing up on its hind legs and kicking forward with its front legs.
This time Victoria could not avoid the kick and its hooves slammed into both of her shoulders simultaneously, causing her great pain and sending her flying backwards several feet. Once she landed on the ground she tumbled backwards twice head over heels before her momentum was expended and she ended up lying on the ground on her stomach. Both of her shoulders hurt so badly that the pain was hard to describe and was even harder to endure without screaming, but endure she did. By some miracle Victoria's right shoulder was badly hurt but was still usable.
Thanks to her right shoulder being usable she could still use her right arm, but she was not going to be wielding her revolver any time soon. The recoil of the large handgun would be even more difficult to manage in her current state, but before she worried about using a weapon she needed to worry about how she was going to get to it. She slowly and painfully raised herself to her knees using her right hand to push against the ground, then raised herself to her feet using the same method but proceeding even more slowly as pain shot through her left leg and right shoulder and threatened to send her collapsing back to the ground.
Once Victoria got to her feet her breathing was uneven from the pain of the kick, which was so intense that it had literally taken her breath away. She was also visibly wobbling from the heavy blow she had just been dealt. She was in serious pain from the wounds she had accumulated up to this point, but she was not finished just yet. As long as she could breathe, stand, and use her revolver, Victoria was not entirely out of the fight.
