✾ Iris Esperanza ✾
Name: Iris Esperanza
Gender: Fluctuating
Age: Age doesn't matter to a cosmic being
Birthday: Gemini, literally born right in the center of the constellation. As for what human month, day, and year, who knows.
Sexuality: Ocular/ Pan
Special Characteristics:
Shapeshifter shenanigans.
Personality:
Iris is a complicated entity. No matter which gender the space dust has chosen, they have a dramatic flair about them and a critical eye for beauty. Nothing is more beautiful and pure to them or spurs them to be passionate in life than eyes and flowers. Too bad they don't just admire said things from afar. No, if Iris finds it beautiful, they must have it, and will try to pluck the thing or otherwise make a deal for whatever it is. If refused, they will not soon forget. They’ll linger around, like a vulture stalking half-dead prey, but with a charming, flirty smile. Also, like a vulture, blood doesn’t bother them, which is quite fortunate considering their tragically masochistic and sadistic proclivities. Sometimes they're covered in it and don't even notice, but the same can’t be said to any other type of dirt or grime. They don't much like getting their hands dirty in that sense. Menial labor isn’t in their wheelhouse, and neither is bending to authority should they ask such things of Iris. In times of displeasure or stress, they paint their nails, focusing intensely on the small task until their recovered. Interrupting is not recommended, as reactions can be highly unpredictable when stressed, though it is highly unlikely they will be caught in this position these days.
Though they adore humanoid species, since regaining their original eyes and thus their true personality they're more imperious than they once were. They have lived longer than most people are capable of rationalizing, so it's hard to give such a young species too much credit. If the people of Earthland didn't satisfy their overly healthy libido, they'd find them no more interesting than ants. The pretty ones are worth playing with and teasing them and finding out what makes them tick is so fun, but most of the time Iris views them more like toys than living beings to form true connections with, as seen by their careless and sometimes cruel dismissal and/or disposal of the 'useless ugly ones'. While they remember and accept that they once had bonds with a few humans they hazard to call friends and lovers, most of them are gone without a trace, which has given him pause. They might not admit it, but it did hurt to lose them and they don't wish to feel that again. As for the lover they thought they loved, that had merely been a result of the human eyes they'd used for too long and the feeling didn't last once they were themself again, though Iris does feel remorse for hurting him. It's uncertain if they are even able to feel the kind of 'love' that humans do, but they're willing to look into it if for no other reason but it's interesting. Maybe there's someone out there! In fact, now that they're once again more space entity than human, they crave exploration of more human notions, entertaining experiences, and learning about Earthland even more than they did before.
They still have an obsession with eyes, finding them beautiful items to collect. Their existing collection of jarred eyes is still quite extensive, and they still draw their magical powers from them. They also still like the personality shifts that come from swapping out sets of eyes. It gives them a first-hand glimpse into the various types of people and what makes them tick, and it's fascinating. They also no longer have that desperate itch to fly into battle recklessly to relieve troublesome feelings, but they do still engage in violence, just with a cooler, more focused head on their shoulders and plenty of intent to get what they want. Once the toy is no longer fun, they will likely take what they ultimately want-- the eyes-- and go on to the next. What criteria Iris has for finding someone interesting is ambiguous at best, though, so those he keeps close can rest knowing that their eyes are safe... for now. Hopefully they just become fond of you.
- original personality pre-development:
The rest of his personality traits are flighty, depending heavily on what sort of eyes he has installed. That poses a deeper problem at times. He’s lost himself, a fact that truly bothers him, though he won’t admit it easily. Perhaps it was the loss of his real eyes that started it. When one switches eyes and personalities so often, a deep-rooted disillusion can creep in. At the onset of his magic, brought on by intense emotional and physical trauma, he promptly learned that his appearance, characteristics, mannerisms, and even minor likes and dislikes changed from what he remembered. It was an odd dissonance, remembering feeling certain ways without the positive or negative connotations attached. It was like seeing something that used to be in color in black and white. It no longer felt like it belonged to him, as if he was peering into a window of who he had been without being able to go inside. The new eyes were an override code, one too strong to resist. This psychotic break and identity crisis of sorts brought on an intense obsession with collecting eyes. Their aesthetic, the personalities they bring, he craves it.
The ocular mage is well aware of what affects each set of his eyes have on him, and is willing to switch them out upon necessity should the situation call for it. Sometimes that’s the only way he’ll make it through a job he’d otherwise reject or not be good at. It’s this bizarre self-awareness despite his unique situation is probably the cause of the psychotic break and identity crisis, and brought on the intense obsession with collecting eyes. In addition to their aesthetic and the traits he craves, he holds the belief that if he collects enough different types, he’ll not only learn the identity of who took his eyes, but also have the arsenal to easily deal with whatever level of threat the person poses. The problem is...when is enough enough?
Iris savors combat, though. He needs little reason to march in, and the reason should be obvious. What better way to harvest his addiction than on the battlefield? Eyes ripe for the plucking, and the beautiful blood is just gravy. That said, his fighting tactics are far from fair, and can be quite brutal. Just don’t damage the eyes, for goodness sakes! He’ll turn on allies if they aren’t careful where they aim.
Likes:
✾ Eyes: What big eyes you have. All the better to snatch them up.
✾ Booze: It’s fun and unpredictable, like them!
✾ Beauty: It’s in the eye of the beholder….but they behold a lot of eyes so they feel they have more weight on the matter.
✾ Buds: Flowers, of course.
Dislikes:
✾ Ugliness: The shallow kind. Deep rooted inner ugliness is none of their concern.
✾ Getting their hands dirty: Other than blood. Blood is fine. It’s all the other gross stuff like dirt and grime that bothers them. It can get on the eyes they take and scratch them.
✾ Glasses: Imperfect eyes lead to a ugly lensed accessory. Ew.
Motivations:
✾ Finding the eye-thief: Though they fought for and reclaimed their original eyes, the thief escaped.
✾ Fighting boredom: Nothing is worse than being bored, except for maybe being poor and/or dirty.
✾ Stick it to the man: Who dares tell a superior being what to do?
Fears:
✾ Losing his original eyes again: They never want to go through that horrific identity crisis again, so their original pair must remain undamaged and unstolen.
✾ Imprisonment: Iris would rather die than be imprisoned. This displays in claustrophobic tendencies if they perceive that they can’t leave whenever they want.
✾ Something hurting their face: Simple vanity. Their face is far too beautiful to mar up, even if they can shapeshift the ugly away.
