Neutral ground. The one place where everyone could come together and do whatever they needed too-- no guild fighting, no anything dangerous. Nice and relaxed. Simple. Peaceful.

Therefore, with that in mind, Lyra found her way to the iLac factory. The advertisement said that they were very much giving these things away for free, which was a rather big shock to her - these were supposed to (probably) be rare and expensive devices that they could have made a lot of jewels selling; people would have absolutely been willing to snatch these up at a half-decent price. In the back of Lyra’s head, she silently wondered if there was something at work.

    Good. You’re learning.

The sardonic voice in the back of her head couldn’t help but agree. Well, that being said, it was nice to know that she wasn’t just being paranoid.

Regardless, once she got to the factory, it was nothing to hop in line, listen quietly to the chatter of all of the people around her, wait her turn, and collect her device from the smiling attendant who asked her for little more than a colour preference. One guess, everybody, because we all know it’s going to be pink.

Slowly, Lyra unboxed the device that she had been handed gleefully, having been given all manner of instructions in its operation. They certainly knew what they were doing. The instructions were fairly exhaustive, but it effectively boiled down to turn it on, register your details, and enjoy all the fun things that the iLac promised. That didn’t seem too difficult, really, and Lyra wasn’t entirely inept.

So what’s this called? Rhett asked. Truth be told, he hadn’t been paying attention. This kinda stuff was boring to him, which made sense considering he was a spirit trapped in a body.

“This is an iLac. Almost everyone has one these days, I think.” Lyra could certainly confirm that, given that most members of Luminous Rose carried them. In fact, that was where she’d gotten the idea.

    And what does it do?

“It’s… a communication device. With extra features. You can play games, look things up, use a calculator… it’s very convenient.”

Huh. Neat. Back home I wouldn’t be able to get something like this. For all the things we could do, actual convenience seemed to be an afterthought.

“What do you mean back home?”

    Nothing. Don’t ask questions.

Lyra shook her head and smiled, knowing that Rhett could be entirely stubborn as to his origins. She probably wouldn’t ever get that out of him. In the meantime, she gazed at the little device in her hands. It was kind of cute, really. And more than anything it was going to be helpful.

The device slid quietly into a pocket-- by the way, we’re absolutely assuming that this skirt has pockets, because commentary on poor female fashion design does not exist here and good fashion choices should always be made, thank you designers-- and the young slayer made her way out of the factory. She could probably set this whole thing up on the train. It’d give her something to do other than listen to the voice in her head.

    I heard that.

    A brilliant smile. “I know.”
