General Appearance
Height: 5 feet 3 inches/ 160 cm
Weight: 56 kg/ 123 lb
Hair Color: Deep violet
Eye Color: Emerald-green
Skin Tone: Slightly tanned, with golden undertones
Appearance:
While not particularly remarkable in stature (5’3” is only threatening to children and munchkins, as far as human height is concerned), Bai Suzhen is nevertheless considered by many to be quite arresting, as nature seems to have done her a lot of favors, apparently to compensate for the not-so-impressive distance between her head and the ground. Her hair, to start with, is of a dark violet color, which most humans would find strange, though it is not so uncommon among Dongxians, of whom she is one. Regarding her hair, it is full and lustrous, falling straight down to around buttock-level. She usually styles it in a braid, ponytail, or secures it with hairpins, unless she’s home, in which case she leaves it to its own devices. Two thick locks, framing either side of her face, descend to chest-level, and are usually braided, or left free, as the case may be. Suzhen maintains a traditional ‘hime-cut’ stule, which obscures most of her forehead and a good deal of her eyebrows. Moving on from her hair, one would come to her eyes. They are large, soft and a deep, yet vibrant shade of green, accentuated by naturally long eyelashes, and there seems to be something mysterious lurking behind those doe-eyes, though this does nothing to detract from making them pleasant to look at. Her nose, while tiny, is well formed and slightly upturned, what people would describe as a "button nose". She has full lips, which are a natural shade of pink, and she reveals perfectly arranged, pearly white dentition when she smiles, beautiful enough to make any orthodontist proud. One of her most distinctive facial expressions is her characteristic fetching lopsided smile, which lends an innocent adjective to her face, although with mischievous connotations. Suzhen has a little mole beneath her left eye.
What Suzhen lacks in height, she makes up for in curves, with a rather voluptuous figure. Her body is lissome and svelte, though she is quite well-endowed, and owns a well-shaped derriere and wide, curvy hips. Suzhen's arms are slim, graceful and well-proportioned, and her legs are short but rather shapely (this contributes to her lack of success in the height department). Her skin is smooth and free of blemishes (except the mole on her face, and even that is said to complement her beauty) and there is no hint of a single scar on her. Suzhen’s movements are executed with an unforced but sprightly feminine elegance that seems to call a lot of attention to her curves, endowing her with a vivacious, yet sophisticated charm. Physically, she is quite fit and healthy, but looks more soft than athletic, and does not pass across the image of someone with a great deal of physical strength, a very deceiving image which she is pleased to maintain. Her voice is soft and mellifluous, though it has a jaunty edge to it. Whether it’s that smile, or the graceful sinuousness with which she moves, or the green of her large, mesmerizing eyes, Bai Suzhen possesses a rather mysterious sort of beauty, one which leaves the observer unsure of whether she is as harmless as a lily, or dangerous as a snake. The latter is more probably true.
In the way of clothing, Bai Suzhen favors elegant Dongxian-themed dresses, or informal streetwear, though the common denominator is the notable degree of skimpiness of her wardrobe, as she seems quite happy with showing off her curves. At home, her clothing style is even more exiguous, as she wears little more, if any more, than undies. She is a jewelry enthusiast as well, and sports piercings on her ears and navel. Suzhen is slightly myopic, and relies on reading glasses to read properly. Her eyesight is functional enough to not require wearing said glasses at all times.

Name: Scholar Bai Suzhen of Fenghai (Family name: Bai, First name: Suzhen)

It is crimson in color and glows when the World Serpent is near, or was recently near, having come close when Suzhen draws on the Snake’s power, or has a nightmare involving the World Serpent.
- Personality:
As far as first contact is concerned, Suzhen is rather sweet and courteous to the average person, exhibiting an effortless aura of composure and grace, with a little kittenish sauce, a good deal of dry humor, and the mild whiff of superiority that seems common to most Dongxians. In most cases though, she tends to appear quite friendly, chipper and happy-go-lucky, seeming to exude a rather optimistic and easygoing air. She is mildly flirtatious, but seems to very much like her personal space, rebuffing those who try to get too close (physically or otherwise) by using snark, other people, and subsequently her fists, if the snark or bystanders aren’t enough for the job. She may be more forgiving to those she is attracted to, but that doesn’t change the fact that she will still remain relatively closed to them. Still, she tends to allow whoever she is interacting with dictate the energy in their interactions with her, being more stoic around formal people, and more playful with the more exuberant ones. She tends to be shyer around her superiors with whom she hasn’t interacted much, and people she finds attractive. Whatever the case, at first contact, Suzhen is often seen as mysterious and charming, with most people finding her difficult to figure out.
On getting closer, one will realize that beyond the façade of coquetry, carefree behavior and mysterious charm, her true nature is that of a scholar: of a very keen intellect, focused, logical, disciplined and very enthusiastic about academic pursuits. She is often fascinated about learning new things and is quite good at putting her knowledge to good practical use. She is curious about things, rarely about people, and hardly ever attempts to intrude on the businesses of others, unless she feels they need her help. Suzhen almost always has a reason for anything she does; to her, it is irresponsible to just act on impulse. Having been taught to hide her emotions behind the optimistic happy mask, Suzhen can, but will not manipulate others to their hurt, unless she judges it necessary. She is good at hiding things from people, even her friends, though she is learning to be more open around those she can trust. If she has an issue, Suzhen would rather create a façade to make others disregard the problem, instead of telling them about it. For instance, most people who know Suzhen know that her dress sense tends to leave little to the imagination, and she plays the part of a minx to go with it, to deflect the public from the fact that due to her connection to the World Snake, she suffers from a constant mild hyperthermia, and thus prefers to expose a good deal of skin to improve cooling via respiration. She's actually a lot more innocent than many believe. Given to long and heavy introspection, Suzhen may ‘zone out’ from time to time, providing opportunities for embarrassing or amusing situations. Suzhen dislikes discussing her past, because she feels ashamed of the person she was a long time ago. While she has sincerely changed a lot for the better, she fears that if she doesn’t take heed, she might end up relapsing into the selfish, vicious person she was back then.
Suzhen is wise, subtle, and full of sympathy, polite to most people (even when trying to be rude), and loyal to a fault, considering friends to be extremely important. On the other hand, she is a little arrogant, and is quite the perfectionist. She is also very opinionated and stubborn, although she is quick to apologize, and quicker to forgive when apologized to. Suzhen is very self-reliant, and is scared of becoming useless. She is very obliging and self-sacrificing, but feels uncomfortable when others do her favors, and does not like to ask for help, which may cause friction with those dear to her. As a result, she tends to take on more duty than is safe for her. It is very easy for her to break down emotionally if she feels helpless. For this reason, she hates being pitied. This is why, instead of telling people about her issues, she will try to find a way around them, as well as hide them from the world. She is quite compassionate to others and dislikes seeing suffering of any kind, but she is brutally unforgiving with herself, and takes failure rather poorly. She is also brutal to those who do not show pity and who delight in causing suffering, easily switching from her congenial self to something more frightening when she meets such folk. One thing to note is that Suzhen, though patient with people, tends to be more irritable in the mornings, mostly because she often sleeps poorly, due to her dreams being harassed by livid nightmares from the World Serpent. Still, if Suzhen realizes she has hurt someone unfairly, she will quickly seek to make amends.
As a leader, Suzhen is maternal and informal, interested in the well-being of her subordinates. She prefers not to lead though, usually trying to defer leadership unless she has no choice. However, she is a very effective leader, usually tends to find herself in ‘big sister’ positions in a group, and will dote over allies and those she feels are in subordinate positions to her. Though some may find her a bit bossy in such situations, Suzhen only acts out of genuine interest in the good of those she is close to. She usually tries to get to know her followers’ abilities and personality types, so as to formulate intelligent strategies by which they may best utilize their strengths and cover each other’s weaknesses. Unless she perceives that she has no choice, she will never think of sacrificing any of her followers, offering herself instead if a sacrifice must be made. She has trained extensively as a field medic, due to her desire of safeguarding the wellbeing of her unit. As a follower, she is very supportive and reliable, especially if the superior is one she likes and/or admires. She becomes stubborn and uncooperative if bossed around, because she isn’t used to such, being spoiled rotten as a child, and she doesn’t like bullies, challenging what she perceives to be abuse of power, when and where she can. She will also not carry out orders that go against her personal code or put her friends in harm’s way. As a fighter, Suzhen is very intelligent and deceptive. She often makes a show of not knowing how to fight, when she is actually quite a proficient fighter. She doesn’t seem to like violence, and is never eager to fight, unless it is a spar, and even then, it may take a bit of persuasion to have her get her dukes up. When she does fight, Suzhen is very tactical and resourceful, and often relies on tricks and feints. She always takes the surrounding into consideration, and thinks up plans to outwit her opponents on the fly. She also uses her trenchant wit and sarcastic tongue to attempt to annoy her opponents, in the hopes that their anger will make them make mistakes, though that has its own risk. Despite her great stamina, Suzhen usually attempts to end fights quickly by delivering quick, debilitating strikes, or incapacitating grapples. In truth, Suzhen loves battle, and the longer the fight, the more excited she becomes. But she fears that her excitement will get the better part of her if she overindulges it, and she may do things she will deeply regret later. While Suzhen frowns on the shedding of blood, she is well prepared to take a life to preserve others. If she must kill, she always does it quickly, and she will often be seen making a prayer for the deceased, unless she feels such a death was well deserved, in which case her executions tend to be extremely dramatic.
Suzhen, like the average person, has her own share of hobbies, likes and dislikes. She is quite aesthetically inclined, impressed by anything which is pleasing to the senses, especially good-looking people, more especially males. She’s a looker and she knows it, and is rather confident of her appearance, and she is quite keen on personal hygiene. She loves being admired and paid attention to, and will get hurt when people make disparaging comments about her, although she has learned to avenge herself with her sarcastic wit. Suzhen also loves jewelry and shiny stuff and has a habit of evaluating items from ancient or foreign locales, having become quite the connoisseuse of such objects. She is very brave and loves adventure of all sorts (especially vehicle racing), and knowledge acquisition, hence libraries. Do not let her drive with you as a passenger. Unless you’re of the same spirit as Suzhen, chances that you will get to your destination are very high. Chances that you will die of a heart attack along the way are also very high. Due to her high respiration rate, thanks to the influence of the World Serpent, Suzhen eats a lot, and her favorite hobby is cooking; she’s a very good cook, although she often comes up with very odd recipes, and has a habit of trying to muscle those around her into eating what she has cooked (it mostly tastes good, though). She is also an unrepentant sweet-tooth. Suzhen is somewhat of a fashionista, and prefers to design her own clothes, resulting in the Dongxian characteristics they tend to have, and the amount of skin they show. She is something of a hedonist, and particularly loves indulging herself as far as food and body treatments are concerned, though she strives for discipline in other areas.
- Trivia:
- Bai Suzhen is inspired by the mythological character “Lady White Snake”. Of course, she has a number of serpentine themes.
- In the Chinese Zodiac, fire is the element of the snake (quite fitting, as the World Serpent is known for its endless hunger, and fire burns endlessly, as long as it has something to 'feed' on). In the tale of “Lady White Snake”, the titular character uses water. Suzhen's first and second magics have fiery and watery themes respectively. In keeping with her fire theme, she also suffers from hyperthermia as a side effect of being connected to the World Serpent, though its effect isn't life threatening.
- Like many Dongxians, Suzhen has a number of contrasting themes: fire with water, light skin with dark eyes and hair, innocence with naughty dress sense and being a mild flirt, her pacifism with great combat ability, hedonistic tendencies with self-discipline, and her voluptuous, delicate appearance with insane physical strength.
- Suzhen's village, Fenghai, is from the Shuiyu side of Dongxia.
- She is very agile and flexible, a very good swimmer and dancer, an exceptional cook, fashion designer and field medic. As far as technology is concerned, her skill reaches only the point of usage; she is useless as far as maintenance is concerned. The best she can do with a car, aside drive it, is put water in the radiator, and it took months to learn that.
- Suzhen has two university degrees from two different universities in Dongxia: one in Ancient Ishgaran Lexicography, and the other in Extraplanar and Adventitious Creatures and Phenomena. She studied both courses at the same time. She is currently pursuing a higher degree in the Management and Control of Preternatural and Extraneous Entities.
- Bai Suzhen is the current Vessel of the World Serpent, an ancient gargantuan snake of cosmic powers, and endless hunger. Most of her powers are drawn from the World Serpent, but she wishes to be free of it. Reflecting the World Serpent's theme of endless hunger, Suzhen's metabolism is quite fast, so she gets hungry quickly, and has constant hyperthermia and sweats a lot. As a result, she is a clean freak, and always tries her best to look and smell good.
- Suzhen can flawlessly mimic all the widely known Ishgaran accents, and is a polyglot, with decent to total mastery of all the major Ishgaran languages except that of Sin, though she knows enough to follow conversations barely.
- Suzhen has a habit of keeping her mouth very slightly ajar. Many people think she does that because she looks cute, but she’s actually breathing through her mouth to ‘taste’ the air, much like a snake flicking its tongue. However, the flicking tongue thing looks so graceless, and Suzhen won’t be caught dead doing it. Suzhen has a very sensitive tongue, and she can taste things people won’t even have an idea of.
- Due to her connection to the World Serpent, Suzhen is not scared of normal, wild snakes, nor are they of her. She seems to be able to communicate with them on a subliminal level also.
- Her favorite colors are white, black, gold and purple-pink hues.
- Bai Suzhen is inspired by the mythological character “Lady White Snake”. Of course, she has a number of serpentine themes.
Likes:
- Academic pursuits: If it’s languages, or ancient relics or medicine, or alchemy, please sign her up. She is also an ardent studier, and can go days simply researching on a single subject.
- Books and Libraries: Reading is fun. At least, to Suzhen.
- People with strong moral compasses and compassionate folk: Because they’re strong enough to want to make the world a better place for everyone. Suzhen easily gets attracted to such folk.
- Food, except bitter, pungent and very peppery foods: The influence of the World Serpent makes her always hungry, so yum yum. But it has to taste nice, as her tongue is very sensitive.
- Sweets: Yes, we’ve mentioned food before, but Suzhen is particularly susceptible to be bribed by it if it is sweet.
- Positive attention: She knows she’s a hottie, and feels good when she’s commended for her looks. Is she vain? Yes, but then again, who doesn’t like being admired?
- Hot guys: Because hot guys. Instant fail if they don’t have good character, though. As a matter of fact, a dreamboat with bad character is more irritating to her than an ugly fellow with bad character.
- Vehicles and racing: There’s something exhilarating about high speeds and adrenalin.
- Summer: Because it’s just an excuse to wear less clothes
- Cooking: It’s fundamentally almost like alchemy. And it creates food!
- Snakes: Her connection to the World Serpent has given her some sort of feeling of kinship with the reptiles. For the most part, they mostly seem to reciprocate this feeling.
- Black, gold and purple-pink hues: Because she thinks they’re cool.
Dislikes:
- The World Serpent: Although it is the source of her powers, it is also the source of her woes.
- Creatures not native to Earthland: This is situational. Suzhen doesn’t particularly hate them initially; she views them with a lot of distrust though, until they prove that they have no ill intentions for Earthland. Should she discover any ulterior motive on their part, she will respond with extreme prejudice.
- Mindless and Wanton Killing and Destruction: Causing death may be necessary at times, but just killing for the fun of it, whether plants, animals or humans, is very disgusting to Suzhen.
- Rude people and bullies: How does it hurt their stupid faces to be polite, huh? And abuse of power is totally unacceptable.
- Very peppery, pungent and bitter foods: Peppery would have been good, but it punishes her overly-sensitive tongue. Pungent foods are disgusting for the same reason. Why do people even condone bitter stuff, anyway?
- Traitors: Trust is very important, and it is a privilege. It should be kept sacred. Those who trample on her trust will earn her ire.
- Dirt and Untidiness: As someone who values her looks quite much, please don’t make her dirty or untidy just for the fun of it. Such things never end well.
- Hot Weather and Places: Due to her hyperthermia, high temperatures make her really uncomfortable. It's a minor inconvenience, but one better lived without.
- Vermin, except snakes: Rat, die! Cockroach, die! You know the drill.
Motivations:
- Freedom: Bai Suzhen desires to be free from the influence of the World Serpent, even if this means she loses the great powers that come with it.
- Fame: To be known as the most powerful hottie on the side of “good” is something that spurs Suzhen on. There is something satisfying about seeing the admiration that comes with recognizing a hero.
- Redemption: She’s been a very bad girl in the past, and she wants to atone for her past sins by her present actions.
- Strength: She seeks personal strength, to be able to protect those who matter, and so as not to be a burden to others.
- Connections: Suzhen desires to make meaningful relationships with people, maybe even meet that special someone. Maybe....
Fears:
- Helplessness: Losing, failing, being inadequate, these things mortify Suzhen. She cannot bear to think of being rendered permanently helpless and having to honestly rely on others to save and protect her.
- Dying With The wrong Song: Suzhen doesn’t fear death. What she fears is dying unsung, or being remembered with negative responses.
- Consumption: She has been told she is close to having the World Serpent consume her will, and make her its permanent avatar, for through her, it will unleash its endless hunger on the world, engulfing the world in high-scale destruction. This is probably the most frightful thing for Suzhen to contemplate.
- Vermin: Most of them are a surefire way of triggering a dramatic response from Suzhen. A response which can only be defined as fight or flight with passionate enthusiasm.
