Sometimes things that fall apart are actually falling into place
This feeling of his hand against Percy's relieved the anxieties that ran rampant through Leon's spirit, if only a little. With his cold and malicious family surrounding him on all sides, he felt soothed by the only warmth in his life, sitting right next to him, though it was a little ironic. It was Leon who was supposed to be a bouncing his leg and getting into fights with his family, but it felt like Percy was the one doing all of those things for him.
The conversation that followed afterward was... chaotic, to say the least. Alphonse, as expected, was still being shitty with his offhand quips, and Claude was making an honest attempt at stirring the pot Leon was subconsciously avoiding or pretending didn't exist, but neither of these things was enough for Leon to raise his gaze from the table. But, judging by how his brow would occasionally twitch, it was no secret that his vexation was beginning to build. It wasn't until Marie got so worked up about Claude's comments that Leon stopped poking his food.
Out of all of his relationships, it was only his younger siblings that Leon seemed somewhat fond of, if only because he was their big brother. He felt a duty to look after them, no matter what malicious ideas and habits they adopted because of everyone else. So seeing Marie go through what appeared to be some sort of crush was... cute, to say the least. It was nice to know that Percy wasn't unanimously disliked, though none of that brought a smile to his face. Not until what had happened next.
Finally returning to Henri's original question, the look on everyone's faces was priceless once Percy had casually dropped his position for everyone at the table to hear. Everyone stopped eating except for Adam, and all eyes were on Percy. Needless to say, the shock captured everyone equally, and for the first time since they had come here, Leon cracked a smile.
"Pft..." he chuckled, gingerly squeezing Percy's knee in response. Seriously, why was he feeling so good all of a sudden, like he was showing him off? Maybe he was smiling because he knew exactly what was going through their heads right now. After all, it was people like Percy that they born to serve, so there was obviously going to be some shock in having had a rocky relationship with someone like that. In a way, hearing Percy mention that made him feel more reassured. That was
his Percy—the one and only. Was he allowed to feel a little cocky?
"That sounds quite impressive, Perseus!" Henri, after hesitating, nodded.
"Oh my... you're quite a bright child, aren't you? There aren't many boys your age who are in positions like that!" Ella complimented while Alphonse fidgeted with his fork.
"...Y-Yeah, we have some small companies like that around here as well. Can't say I've heard of your family company, so I guess it's still—""Actually," Judith finally spoke, tapping away on her iLac,
"they're not very small at all. I just Boogled them, and they're actually very well known within Fiore. It is quite impressive.""See? Why did you ever doubt him?" Marie crossed her arms and nodded, strangely... proud?
"I wouldn't get too attached, though. Something's telling me that this is gonna be the last time we'll be seeing these two alive," Claude cheekily added, sipping his drink and fueling Alphonse's simmering anger.
"Someone said it. Did you make arrangements for your replacement, Mister Dagger?""Oh, right. I hadn't thought about that. But still—""Thank you for the food, but I think it's time that Percy and I excuse ourselves for the night..." Leon suddenly stood up, looking at Ella with his firm, wolfish eyes. When it came to himself, Leon was able to endure a lot of the malice that came his way, but saying these things about Percy right in front of him like this made him want to fight his brothers right there and then. He had to stand up like that in order to keep himself from squeezing Percy too hard once he heard that filth come out of their mouths. Quietly, he looked to his parents for permission.
"But you have barely eaten, Leon..." Ella looked at him, a little concerned.
"It is better if he leaves," Adam interjected for the first time since he talked about the war brewing on the border. Despite Ella's concern, Adam's word was final and second only to Igor Hoffman himself, and with that, Leon nodded.
"Thank you. C'mon, Percy..." Leon looked down at his two-toned friend before beginning to walk out of the room, hearing deep snickers from behind.
"(If it makes you feel any better, little man, check the back of the top dresser door. It's where we keep the fun stuff!)" Claude smiled with his droopy, condescending eyes. Alphonse also grinned.
"(Fucking duds!) Pfft!"Leon walked out into the hallway after that, and all the way back to his room, he didn't say a word.
