The time was 8:30 in the morning Alicia Sinclair, a rookie rune knight, arrived at the headquarters at era clad in her proper uniform. Her attire was proper and clean, on her side she had her trusty hand gun a modified 1911 chambered in mana infused .45 ACP. She had already clocked in for work at 5:30 in the morning, she had volunteered to assist some of her fellow compatriot rune knights on their morning rounds, she was available since she had quickly and efficiently subdued the mountain of paperwork in a timely manner. Her fellow rune knights were enthralled to have her accompany them on their normal route for patrol. The patrol was quite uneventful and in a matter of a few hours they were able to make their rounds and were able to return promptly back to the rune knight head quarters. The rune knights thanked Alicia for her assistance and she politely replied back: "It's no big deal, if you all need any help don't hesitate to ask" Alicia then parted ways with the group of rune knights and went to one of the secretaries on duty to see if there was still some more work to be done.
Alicia approached a young woman, she didn't seem to have many stripes on her uniform so Alicia had presumed she was either a new recruit. "Good morning" Alicia smiled brightly slightly startling the young secretary. Alicia eye's quickly glanced over to the presented name plate on the secretaries desk. "Is there any work that I can do.... Miss Anne?" Alicia inquired politely as she brushed her snow white hair off to the side.
"Ah... y-yes Miss... Sincla-" Anne, the secretary stammered, but before she could finish her sentence Alicia politely interjected. "Please call me Alicia, I'm no ones boss here hahaha you and I are both fresh blood here." Alicia chuckled, her demeanor was warm which comforted Anne. "Ah yes...Alicia... right" Anne continued " We received a letter down form the city... it seems that a woman by the name of Selene Valone is currently having issues with a stalker of sorts... if it is alright with you.. please investigate the matter... and if you gather enough evidence... you are free to apprehend the stalker." Anne placed the letter on the table, presenting it to Alicia. Alicia's brilliant blue eyes sparkled with curiosity.
"You can leave it to me. Thank you Miss Anne..." Alicia nodded and scooped up the letter and began to proceed to her destination. As she traveled she read the contents of the letter. She then discovered that Selene was being staked by one of her coworkers. At surface value it seemed to be a run of the mill stalker situation, but something felt off. Alicia had an inkling that there was more to this case. Regardless of how big or small the case was, Alicia was the type to always make sure that she always carried out a proper and thorough investigation. It did not take long for Alicia to find the address of the aforementioned victim, after all Selene Valone lived in the City of Era. The same City where the Rune knight head quarters resided.
Alicia climbed up three steps before reaching the door to the small house of Selene Valone. Alicia gently knocked on the door and waited patiently for a response. She stood there for a few minutes before knocking again. Eventually a soft voice emerged from inside the house. The voice was rather rattled and shaky, it was clear whoever was speaking was afraid and had undergone some trauma. "W-who's there?" The voice fearfully called out.
"Alicia Sinclair... I am a Rune knight sent here to help... are you perhaps Selene Valone?" Alicia replied back in a calm and gentle tone in hopes to ease the soul behind the door. "R-Rune Knight?" The voice meekly asked as if grasping for confirmation. "Yes mam... I'm from the Rune Knights... would it be alright if you let me in?" Alicia patiently replied back in the same smooth and calming tone. There was once again a moment of silence before a woman with long hazel brown hair with matching brown eyes, shielded with a pair of round spectacles. The door creaked ever so slightly as the woman cautiously peeked outside. Alicia smiled she raised the letter in her hand, allowing her body language to convey to the woman that she meant no harm.
"P-please come inside.... " said the woman softly. Alicia nodded and stepped into the woman's abode, as soon as her whole body was in the premise of the home, the door quickly closed and locked. Alicia turned around to look at the woman. "I presume you are Selene Valone... you were the one who sent this letter... yes?" Inquired Alicia as her blue eyes scanned the immediate area round her. the woman meekly nodded. "Y-yes that is me..."
"Alright then... Would like to explain to me in detail what has been going on?" Alicia posed another question, her tone remained calm and soothing. Selene then took Alicia to the living room where she explained the whole situation to her. Alicia listened carefully and found out that Selene worked as researcher, a mage that specialized in the study of etherano and it's various applications to physical and metaphysical world. It seemed that Selene was researching a branch of summoning magic and take over magic. She had made some notable break throughs and some leads in her research, and when that had happened that was when Xavier, her coworker had begun following her around. She had first noticed he was watching her at the lab and eventually she found out he was following her home. There was even one instance where he even tried braking into her home.
"Alright... for now I'll conduct an investigation..." Alicia said calmly as she stood up form her seat. But before Alicia could take one step Selene stopped her. "please don't go... I'm scared..." Alicia nodded and decided to stick around. Alicia had stayed with Selene until it was night fall. The day was pretty much uneventful but around midnight was when Alicia heard a window shatter. Alicia immediately cast a protective barrier around Selene and told her to hide somewhere in her room. Alicia went downstairs to investigate and was immediately greeted with a flash of sharp metal. Alicia dodged while simultaneously drawing her fire arm. She quickly lined up her shot, pulled the trigger, and blew out one the knees of the assailant. The cloaked figured dropped on to the floor howling in pain, Alicia had the gun pointed at the figure, ready to fire another shot should he or she try something funny. Upon closer inspection Alicia realized the body was convulsing unnaturally. She quickly went over with the gun still ready, she kicked the body face up, and carefully removed the hood of the cloak. To her surprise it was a young man, his eyes was rolled back his mouth foaming. Alicia quickly channeled her mana and attempted to cast a healing spell, but it was to no avail. The man was dead...
Alicia quickly went up to check on Selene, to her relief Selene was fine. Alicia called for back up, soon enough she dead man was identified to be Xavier, Selene's stalker... there was so many questions left unanswered, Alicia vowed she would get to the bottom of this mystery... for now she made sure Selene was safe. After making a quick arrangement, Selene was placed under the custody of the Rune Knights and was taken to a classified location with a sizable squad to watch over and protect her while the investigation was going on. Alicia knew this was the start of something far more sinister....
