It was around this time that people were really beginning to start the expedition. Some of the people on the plateaus when he arrived were no longer in his field of vision, or detection for that matter, and he was sure that uncharted areas were quickly becoming uncovered.
I guess I should get moving too... thought Doppo, slurping up the last bit of spaghetti that was on his plate. He had scoffed down a litany of different dishes in the last hour or so, adequately preparing his arsenal of spells for the conflicts that were sure to come.
When Doppo came onto this expedition with his gifted plate, he knew he was taking unforeseeable risks. He knew that he would have never lost it, but what if he tripped? What if it was taken by some disagreeable mage? What if, God forbid, it was broken during combat or exploration? Bringing the plate was both a necessity and a challenge, and so to minimize the danger he'd put his precious plate through, the redhead had decided to make a small investment into a pocket-dimension lacrima. They were the sort of off-the-shelf items you could buy to store things. It was similar to what ReQuip sorcerers did, where one could place anything into an infinite pocket dimension. It was like a backpack on crack and could go anywhere with any amount of luggage as long as Doppo could cast the spell, and he could. So, he had dedicated an entire space in another dimension for a single plate of limitless value. Opening the palm of his hand, a small rip in space opened, just big enough to fit his plate through. He let it fall into the void and closed it before finally rising from that rock on the plateau and looking over the horizon to see where he'd go next.
I wonder if there's a hot spring around here... like in the mountains or something... I wonder if there are monkeys in them, too... As Doppo continued to look over the plateaus and into the depths of the forest, the rigid lines of the mountains in the far distance, and the grassy plains in the west, he was incredibly indecisive on where to go and how to start. In his idleness, something thin and sharp tapped his shoulder.
"Huh?" Doppo turned around to see who had tapped him. When he did, his baby blue eyes fell onto... an
imp. Well, that's what he thought, anyway. It looked like an imp, had wings like an imp, hovered in the air like an imp, and had that impish grin on its beastly face like an imp. So, with all this information, it must be...
"Oh... a bird...?"The moment the word left his mouth, a magic circle just large enough for Doppo to fall into opened beneath his feet. He noticed this, but didn't register that he was descending into it until it was too late. After a particularly long pause, the redhead realized what was happening, and before he could escape the spell, he had fallen into it in an instant.
"Shit...!" Doppo cursed. In the fraction of a second, he went from the flat plateaus to the falling down from the sky, where the magic circle had reopened. Below him were the deep and thick woods of the Unknown Lands, with a single clearing in the vegetation beneath him. It was a spot where none of the trees blocked out the sky, and he could clearly see what was there. As he flipped his body over to face the earth he was descending it, he could see something... black. Even as the wind hit his face and he tried desperately to clear his vision, the figure hadn't changed. It was black and had asymmetrical horns on its skull, but was overall humanoid in shape. Without a shadow of a doubt, it was a monster of these lands, and by the time he'd crash into the clearing next to it, there would hardly be a time to think. He had to get rid of it now, as he was being paid to do that very thing.
The ground drew nearer, and his crash was nigh. But, if he was gonna take out this thing swiftly, he intended to waste no time in doing it. As he came closer to the ground, Doppo began to cast one of his many spells, turning his left arm into the bill of a swordfish, enhanced with his magic to make it as sturdy and powerful as an actual blade. Without warning, he aimed for the very skull of that
thing underneath him, surely enough to take it by surprise if they didn't catch wind of the immense magical aura coming from above.
However, without his knowing, the imp had only cast one of his tricks, and the demon he was preparing to slay was hardly that at all.
