If the wind in my sail on the sea stays behind me
One day I'll know, if I go there's just no telling how far I'll go
Pimwadee Chakri
Hargeon was frequent to visitors from other lands, one particular visitor having only stepped off the decks of an immigration vessel a few days prior. A youth from the land of Lhuk, with a recently acquired work visa and passport, clutched tightly in her excited caramel coloured fingers. There had been much to adjust to since her arrival; the weather, the customs, the general mannerisms of the people. Her assimilation had been a little slow at first, what with the fact that her understanding of their language despite being well-practised was not as straightforward as the traveller, Pimwadee, had expected.
There were so many colloquialisms that her studies had not been privy to, not to mention the accents that would bend and warp the words in such a way that she struggled to understand them. At least, some of the locals had quickly picked up that she wasn't from her and helped her out in some circumstances, aiding her in getting checked into the local inn and working out her change when paying for things. The exchange rate from Thxng to Jewel wasn't as promising as she'd initially expected. But fortunately, her family's newly acquired wealth meant that this discrepancy wasn't so much of a setback, more of a surprise to the Asiatic female.
Regardless, in spite of all these accommodations, the girl felt a little more settled at this point of her travels. Although not quite ready to move on, she was still exploring Hargeon and the feature's that the port town had to offer. As she wandered through its snow-covered streets, sporting the newly purchased winter clothes she'd acquired immediately after arriving here. Her purple-dyed locks hung down softly against her shoulders, her fringe pinned under her favourite triangular-patterned headband that she had brought from home. She was wearing an outfit advised to her by the shopkeeper of one of the many boutique's she had visited during her initial days here. On her upper-body, an oversized cream jumper that hung all the way down to her knees, its neckline layered in an unusual fashion, decorated with tassels from shoulder to shoulder. On her legs, she wore thick brown winter tights, and for shoes, she had purchased some tanned style of boot that were apparently known as 'Uggs' here. Having quickly learned that the weather here was significantly colder than what she was used to, the people of Earthland we're currently experiencing their winter which was freezing compared to the only slightly cooler seasons in Lhuk. Needless to say, she was finding that the thick, wool-based clothing was aiding her adaptation to the cold significantly.
The streets of Hargeon were especially busy today, it would seem the locals were celebrating some kind of festival. Something that Pim found herself especially excited to experience herself, praising Phra Phrom for bestowing such a lucky beginning to her journey across the western world. Her orchid-coloured eyes alight with zealous intrigue, it was such a contrast to festivals in her land. From what she'd learned when asking around about the festival, she'd learned that the 'Winter Solstice' was a celebration for the shortest day of the year, but there was more to it than that. She had been informed that for those more spiritually inclined, it was an event that celebrated the longest hours of darkness, for the darkness would provide the rebirth of the sun. Believed to be a time for regeneration, renewal and self-reflection. A concept that Pim loved and couldn't resist celebrating with them.
She started her experience by sampling one of the beverages being sold by the entrance, enticed by the sweet scents and warmth radiating from the stall. She had ordered herself a hot chocolate, not something she'd tried before. They sold hot-chocolates in her country, but generally, she was more inclined to order an iced green tea. Still, with the frosty air biting at her skin, she could understand the need for such a drink. And so after paying the lady at the counter, she brought the drink to her lips, blowing on it delicately for a few moments before taking a tentative sip. Eyes widening in delight as the sweet heat coated her town, filling her with an immediate sense of comfort and warmth. It was a very pleasant beverage, one she would be glad to try again on a wintery day like today.
Pimwadee proceeded to idly stroll further into the festival, taking in all the sights and scenes that Hargeon's streets had to behold. As she sipped her drink once more, taking a more hearty gulp now that it's liquid had cooled down to a lukewarm temperature. There was a sudden jolt of her arm as something relatively firm slammed into her wrist, the force of which causing her to drop the drink. She stared at the dispersed contents of the treat she had been enjoying in bafflement before looking around, only to see what looked like a rotund figure made of snow, angrily pelting snowballs at her. Confused and unsure of what it was she was facing, the woman would turn and dart away with a shriek, ducking her head to avoid the onslaught of snowballs that we're being launched her way. Spotting a mound of snow, she ducked behind it, crouched down in panic with her hands over her head defensively. Confused as to what had brought on this attack, completely unaware that she had stumbled straight into the Snowball War arena.
