and discovering other peoples' weaknesses.
Mercury had been quite the busy bee since that fateful day in the Silent Glaciers. It had been no trouble at all for her to get back to the caverns after all was said and done, gathering the whole load of treasure up and hauling it back to Silver Wolf. Most of it she gave to the guild treasurer to sort through as they wished. The parts she kept for herself was predominantly the stuff that had been melted already -- which she simply formed into piles of gold bars -- and then a few jewels and trinkets here and there that caught her eye. Needless to say, she was quite a bit richer than she had been before. The vast majority of what she kept for herself was stored away in a large vault she’d set up in her room, but the rest she sold for cold hard cash. A little spending spree had been in order, of course. She bought herself some new clothes and some new tech. Granted the technology here wasn’t the most advanced, but she could easily spruce most of it up with her own engineering. The bottom line was that Mercury quite enjoyed spending money. It was a luxury she wasn’t exactly used to, so why not soak in the spoils a bit? She had also done quite a bit more research into her new friend Vandrad. He was quite the mystery, one that she greatly wanted to crack open. She had not found much about the Gren Ragnos man that he said he was searching for. Around the time of his obituary, all records of him stopped. It seemed he had died in a house fire of some kind, though obviously the validity of that remained to be seen. She had found quite a bit more on the other Ragnos, Mythal, but nothing that really tied him to Gren. The same went for Serilda, and for a recently retired general from the Knights called Branwen who seemed to be rather close to Gren back in the day. But what was most interesting was the lack of information on Vandrad himself. She had done a bit of poking around about the man, but hadn’t found much. He had only joined Fairy Tail about a week before they worked together, and from what she could tell he had not given any sort of last name. She had tried Ragnos, of course, but that had yielded a whopping zero results. Clearly he didn’t have his father’s last name. Without knowing who his mother was, she was going to be hard pressed to find out more any time soon. But then again, that’s what made this all the more fun. Once she was convinced that she had exhausted her research as far as what she could do now, Mercury decided it was time the two of them went on another mission together. Making the trek down the mountain on her hover drone, she made fairly decent time getting to Fairy Tail’s guild hall. Since they were allied with Silver Wolf, it was no trouble at all to gain admittance to the main hall where guests were often allowed to come and go as they pleased. She’d never actually been there before, however, and was surprised to see it as crowded and boisterous as it was. It really didn’t seem like the type of guild a recluse like Vandrad would be interested in, but surely that just meant there was more to the place than met the eye. Soon enough she found him, brooding in a corner and staring at a job board. Similar to their in Silver Wolf, it was plastered with all sorts of ads for various jobs that people needed help with. And there he stood, glaring at the inanimate object as though if he gave it the stink eye long enough it would simply cower in fear and hand him the job that would interest him most. She grinned and wandered over toward him. Without a word, Mercury turned and leaned her back up against the board practically right in front of him. She was dressed vastly different now that they weren’t in a frigid climate. A bright pink tank top that was open down the sides barely covered a firm, black push up bra, which was partially exposed from one of the shirt’s sleeves hanging loosely off her shoulder around her arm. She wore a tight fitting pair of black pants with a belt to keep it snug around her hips. As before, she had a number of pouches hanging off the belt, and strapped to her thigh was the oversized pistol that she carried. Black leather boots adorned her feet, and she wore a sleek set of sunglasses over her eyes, despite the fact that she was inside, their tint just light enough that he could see her eyes through them. Now that she wasn’t entirely bundled up, he could see that her left arm up to her shoulder was covered in a number of dark tattoos that resembled gears and cogs. Holding up a gloved hand that left her well manicured fingers exposed, she showed him a small piece of folded paper tucked between her pointer and middle digits. “I’ve got what you want right here, killer,” Mercury told him playfully. That self same devious smirk lit her face, like she knew damn well that she was probably the last person he ever wanted to see again, and yet here she was anyway. |
