Leila Vergious ❃ Y-rank ❃ Silver Wolf Akeya’s bluntness was mixing somewhat strangely with the fact that she actually tried to care about someone other than herself even when it was not necessarily all that required. Or perhaps it was Leila who was not yet fully used to the dragoness showing concern toward her silver-haired partner.
That aside, it was not surprising for her that the shadow assassin did not have any change of clothing. What she said was more of a reminder for the future, if anything. Not that she expected Akeya to take it to the heart too much.“Not gonna bother yourself with it even for me?”
She retorted to the dragoness’ words a bit cheekily, but she certainly did not expect the partial transformation. She… didn’t know what to think of it. While she was most certainly both amazed and intrigued by the new appearance, it might have been a bit too much for this festival. It did make the dragoness look even more threatening than she was normally, which was saying something.
“Well… I guess it will do the trick? Let’s just try to not give anyone a heart attack.” Saying that half-jokingly and half-seriously, Leila took a few steps to the side and looked around. While it was pleasant talking to Akeya, they might have as well taken advantage of some of the aspects that came with the festival.
And the dragoness appeared to be in agreement when she pointed out the same herself, even accepting the fact that she probably should not be going around and lashing out against the villagers or travelers from afar for the silliest of matters. Looking around, there appeared to be quite a few attractions they could take part of.
But one, in particular, caught the caretaker’s eye. An entire area dedicated to having a bit of a competition. One that centered around cooking of all things. Several individuals were already gathered, trying to figure out what kind of recipe they should try out in order to win against their competition.
“Cooking… it’s been a while since I made anything proper. Hey, I want to try! Dunno if you can cook… but you can watch if not, hope that’s not gonna be too boring for you.” She couldn’t imagine that the dragoness was that interested in culinary arts, but maybe she was mistaken.
That said, she also managed to get herself quite excited for this to back away even if her partner’s reply was of more negative nature. Hearing an announcement of the contest starting in roughly 5 minutes, the silver-haired mage rolled up her sleeves and went to one of the empty stalls that still needed a chef.
And on the way to it, she heard something interesting from the other contestants that were whispering to one another. “Hey, see that guy over there? Apparently that’s the famous chef Ramsey. He destroys all of his competition here year after year.” “Wait, for real? Damn, I was really hoping that I could win this year…” So it seemed that she had some serious competition.
Naturally, that only served as a boost to the girl’s moral and desire to win. The moment the bell chimed, everyone began. Not exactly having much time to decide what meal to prepare, Leila went for something simple, yet tasty and in its own right elegant. Chicken Cordon bleu with cheese sauce, lightly fried potato slices, and fresh vegetables.
Taking a deep breath and then smirking, several orbs of void energy appeared around her. The rules did not say that the use of magic was prohibited after all. The orbs quickly transformed to take on the shape of knives and other necessary tools that started flying all around her station, preparing the meat and potatoes.
On the other side, she also used the power of Gardens of Eden to start growing some vegetables, making them as fresh as they could possibly be while ensuring that they tasted simply heavenly. Stuffing the chicken breast with ham and only a bit of cheese, she made sure that the sauce and the meat would not clash too much.
And since magic was taking care of two parts, she had all the time she needed on making the side dish as good as it could be. Sometime later the bell chimed again, marking the end of the food preparation. Wiping the sweat off of her forehead, Leila looked down on her result. She was actually surprised at how well it looked.
Cooking was something that one never truly forgot, paired with the competition spirit produced a true masterpiece. But she also saw Ramsey’s chicken roast. Well, whoever was to win, she didn’t mind either way. A bit of the food was presented to the judges who tasted piece after piece and took their time deciding.
In the end, the most surprising thing happened. Leila managed to win the contest by a single point! It appeared that while her dish did not taste quite as good as Ramsey’s one, the judges appreciated the clever spectacle of magic, as well as the wonderful taste. Apparently even things like that counted in a cooking contest.
Finding her dragoness wherever she might have been, the girl waddled over to her. “Haah, that was surprisingly exhausting… I was hoping to give the dish to you, but apparently they want to have it be part of an eating contest that is happening in a few minutes. Um… were you too bored..?”
