That snow was actually the reason why Akeya had landed: she couldn't scout the area from high up with physical particles blocking her view. Darkness itself was no obstruction, magical or not, but darkvision didn't allow you to look straight through objects. From down here on top of the hill she had a better chance of seeing something important, or something small but still significant. Her clawed and scaled hands were at her side, relaxed for now but ready to be brought up if she thought she'd need to fight. Her claws were not her only weapons, but they were good weapons nonetheless.
The report she'd read said that for some reason numerous portals were opening across the entirety of Earthland, and that these portals were linked to the psuedo-dimension that housed the fantastical world of Santa Claus, the mysterious entity who would hand out presents to kids who had been nice that year at the beginning of winter. This alone would already have been strange enough, since Santa wasn't known for leaving a door open leaving to his little pocket dimension, but for some reason the creatures that came out of the portals had all turned extremely aggressive, looking like some strange variant of the usual peaceful helpers and critters that accompanied Santa. He was supposed to be the manifestation of warmth and generosity that warded off the cold of winter, yet there was no doubt that from his world these hostile creatures were spawning.
Akeya's first response to reading the report had been to go do something else. She didn't care much for the festivities and she figured that the other mages would be just fine dealing with this without her. Unlike the Regent of the Night this incident didn't showcase the powers of a god, and her money was on that some twisted mage had invaded Santa's realm and managed to make some of his followers and pets go wild. While certainly curious and somewhat worrisome it wasn't on the level that every single mage should have to be involved in taking care of it.
However she was then told that she would be working together with some members of Silver Wolf to take care of a particular troublesome area. Snowfall Island had a similar climate to Santa's Workshop, as his realm was often called, and because of that the portals were more numerous there than in other places and the creatures that came out were particularly dangerous. Akeya wasn't an expert on interdimensional travel, but some quick studying had confirmed her suspicions: just like how it was much easier to move to the realm of the dark through a shadow, connecting two dimensions was a lot easier if done by connecting two spots which were similar in traits.
For now the hope was that she and the Silver Wolves would be able to either get into contact with Santa and figure out what was going on so they could render assistance, or barring that find a way to prevent any more portals opening so at least this area would have some peace and quiet once more. The inhabitants of Snowfall Island already had it bad enough with some crazy powerful ice mage forcing them to reside in constant winter.
Standing on top of the snow, her silhuette outlined against the midnight sky, Akeya was nearly invisible. Her dark scales seamlessly blended in with the night sky, and the rest of her body followed suit as the dark dragon's natural camouflage ability kicked in. However noticing this she frowned and forced herself to become visible once more, with some difficulty managing to outline her scales with silver to help make sure she wouldn't become invisible once more. Usually she would actually try to capitalize on being hidden, but this time around she had to remain visible. She came here before the Silver Wolves because she could fly, and fly quite fast, but she'd have to meet up with them at the harbour and that wouldn't really work if she was invisible.
Clicking her tongue to express a small amount of annoyance the serious-minded dragoness began to run towards the village that overlooked the northern-like harbour, her form now a mixture of darkness like midnight and brilliant silver like the moon. It wouldn't take long for her to reach the village, but even if the distance was short she still stayed wary in case something tried to attack her on the way there. If the enemy was using portals you couldn't expect to be safe just because you were only travelling a short distance. She had considered flying to the harbour but she didn't want to be designated as some kind of flying monster. From what she had heard the people of the village had become quite good with harpoon guns.
She didn't know which members of Silver Wolf she'd be working with, only that there was supposed to be two of them, and that she should expect them to be strong.
