Never having been to Snowfall Island, Arcadia had to get there the old fashioned way. She was meeting her guildmate, Mythal, there, but without knowing if he as there already that could lead her to traveling most of the way there the hard anyway. All depending on how far Mythal was on his journey. There was also the fact, the young blonde slayer was hoping the long flight would help clear her head, and give her a better handle on all the extra mass. All the extra magic she felt flowing through her since her last exam had resulted in a tremendous increase in the size and strength of her dragon form. Not quite a full dragon yet, but no longer the cute little wyrmling she was when her dragon form first emerged.

Arcadia as Young Adult Ice Dragon:

    Scale of Ice Dragon Size:
((The elephant was her size as a dragon at A-Rank, the gray whale is the size of her size as a dragon at S-Rank))

As she flew in the skies approaching Snowfall Island, she was now the size of a gray whale, about 49 feet (15m) long. A couple hundred tuns of nearly solid ice kept aloft her massive wings. Flurries of snow traveled with her, with or without clouds. Snowfall Island was probably one of the few places  it would not be out of place. Her currently, sparkling faerie green eyes the one indicator of the kind young girl inside the body of the small flying iceberg.

Considering the job they had brought them out this far, she could easily be mistaken for one of the creatures they came to put down.  She had meant to land some distance from the village, tokeep from adding to their alarm. Fate had something else in mind, the young adult ice dragon spotting trouble below as she arrived over Snowfall Island. There was a small group of what appeared to be villages being harassed by some ice monsters. If she remembered from the descriptions correctly, they were what the locals called Ice Mongrels, about five of them.

She laughed a little to herself, because it didn't take her long to think of 3m tall ice monsters as not that big in her recent growth as a dragon. Unfortunately, they did still look rather large in comparison to the villagers they were chasing. So much for landing to get her bearings, and tracking down Mythal before getting into the thick of things.

To keep an element of surprise, she suppressed the snow flurries that naturally followed her around for the time being, and also conjured a cloud of ice crystals to bend light around her with. The young adult ice dragon was soon invisible, and content she would keep the added trauma to the villagers to a minimum. One more thing she was uncertain of. Being ice creatures like herself, she had no idea how resistant they would be to cold. Thus she called on the power of Odin melded into her form with the Silver Star charm anklet she had been wearing, focusing its divine energy to covert the output of her magic from ice to elemental crystal.

The invisible dragon swooped down raking the Ice Mongrels with her crystallized roar. She unleashed a whirling torrent of powdered crystal and larger razor crystal shards, leaving behind a thing coating crystal on the ground and on the mongrels. Pulling up, she banks sharply around after climbing back up a couple hundred feet. Her first pass had left the ice monsters distracted enough to let the villager's slip away.

Coming back around again, she swooped down again. This time she targeted a mongrel  furthest away from the others. Rather than tackling it to the ground, she she used her greater size and strength to fly off with it. Back up a couple hundred feet, she rolled and slung the mongrel back toward one of its companions on the ground. The harsh, crunching impact left both mongrels motionless.

She let herself go visible again as she dove back down, crushing a third mongrel under a couple hundred tons of ice. A small dragon-shaped glacier shook the earth locally when she landed. That and her visibility did what she meant. It kept the last two ice mongrels from going off after the villagers. She flinched taking a few of their conjured ice spikes, though only the coldest and sharpet of the spikes would put a scratch in her hard icy hide. The rest were simply too brittle compared to her cold resistant form.

Now that the last two were close enough to strike with their ice spike spell, Arcadia could stomp the ground with a clawed forefoot, spreading crystal out along the ground that would grow up to encase the mongrel's feet. It was just thick enough to hold them fast for a moment. That moment was all she needed to draw on her specialized magic scissors, that like her charm anklet had melded into her dragon form. She used their limited hands-free ability to open a portal under the mongrels' feet, letting them plummet through. The exit portal was opened about a hundred meters straight up and pointed down.

That was the end of that when the two mongrels impacted from so high.  Arcadia briefly shifted the focus of her magic back to its natural ice, and  drew on its slow healing freezing numbness to soothe away the few scratches the ice spikes had left. Her faerie green gaze swept around the area to make sure it finally quiet.  The scent of the villagers was feint now, so she had to assume they had went back to the village.  She reverted back to form of a barefoot teenage human girl, a sparkling charm anklet around her left ankle, and a softly glowing crystal moon rose behind her left ear.

    Normal Arcadia:

The pale blonde slayer sighed in relief, and took in the beauty of her surroundings now that she could. She headed off in the direction she thought she smelled the village. It was time to see if she could pick Mythal's scent out from among them, and do her best to reassure the villagers that any ice dragon they see in the near future is actually the help they sent for.

I've been out there and seen the things she's made

It had been quite some time since Mythal had seen Arcadia, having been out and about doing jobs left and right since his initiation. But the girl had been the reason he even joined Fairy Tail in the first place – she had spoken to him, interviewed him to see if he would fit within the confines of the wizarding guild. It had been she that had first taken him on the tour of the guild hall, even taking him into the dark recesses of the basement where the dark board lay. She’d vouched for him, enough so that he had been made a full member of the guild fairly quickly rather than acting as an intern. He owed her a lot and it had been an injustice that he hadn’t gotten a chance to go on a job with her.

Luckily all that had changed when he caught the posting about fledgling town on Snowfall Island. Apparently it had once been home to a rather illustrious and famous resort but then an ice wizard had come and ravaged the island with his anger and wintery magic. The wizard had been dealt with seemingly but the frost had remained, keeping the resort from regaining any sense of traction to its former glory. But they hadn’t given up – instead, they had taken the news and opted to move in a different direction. They began by rebuilding the town that had been swallowed up by snow and ice, crafting buildings that were far better suited for the winter. But the magic had infected the creatures of the island as well, warping them and angering them. Now they were attacking the citizens and making life all around hard to deal with and nearly impossible to make the repairs.

It sounded like a perfect opportunity to team up with the Fairy Tail Ace, so he had contacted her. She had agreed excitedly, which was no surprise given her normal personality. Mythal had agreed to meet her there, wanting to leave from his home rather than head all the way to Magnolia. So he had taken to the sky – his crow form carried him across the winds without any real issue or notice from people below. He soared across the water like an actual avian, his eyes darting around as he scouted the waters below. It wasn’t a short trip by any means but it was a nice one. It gave him more than ample opportunity to stretch his wings, quite literally – he found he spent so much time on his lacrimacycle and the trains that he hadn’t really gotten back to training his flight. This was another opportunity for him to do some work.

As he came upon the outskirts of the island, he was surprised by just how spellbound the land was. The snow wasn’t light from the looks of it; there were certainly parts of it that were several feet deep, probably even enough to trap someone his height. He soared down over the snow-blasted hills, his wings flapping hard as they caught onto the brisk breeze. He spotted the settlement over a short ridge, the only place that had been cleared and coordinated on the entire island. He was just about to arch his descent when he heard several cries of panic. He swooped in a loop, to keep the wind beneath him and bring him up over the town. His eyes scanned for the source of the screams and didn’t have far to look.

Several villagers were running from a section of the town that was still under development. Their fears came from three large beings made entirely of ice, marching after the fleeing citizens. They looked like knights clad in armor made of frost, their icy weapons lifting high and ready to slash at their prey. They were gigantic too; they were easily fifteen feet or so each of them, which made their danger even more palpable. If they got into the heart of the town, they could cause some serious damage. Mythal shifted his trajectory and brought himself over the three ice guardians, centering himself over the middle being. Then he lifted the spell of flight from his ring, shifting him back into his regular human form. He spun through the air, a controlled fall that built up momentum and energy into his body. The first ice guardian had no idea what hit him; the God Slayer’s fist led the charge as it smashed through the being’s head and down into its torso. The sharp, crystalline fragments from his body being broken exploded out in all directions, spraying the immediate area with the ice shards. He slammed into the ground after he bisected the ice guardian, its entire middle now lying on the snowy ground below. The two remaining pieces of its body fell to the ground, surprising and drawing the attention of the other two. Each one turned to look at the God Slayer, their unseen eyes settling on him in anger.

“Awfully rude, interruptin’ their day like that,” Mythal said casually to the two ice guardians, even as they were shifting to attack him. The closest one brought its sword down in a wide arc, aiming to divorce the human man into pieces. But Mythal brought Curse forward, spinning it around and slamming the blade into the approaching one, clashing the weapons together. Despite his size, the God Slayer easily managed to keep the weapon from pushing him back, his feet digging into the ground as his enhanced capabilities served him well. He pushed the ice weapon back and his own sword shifted slightly, opening up a small barrel near the guard. A loud bang shot through the area as his sword shot at the creature’s face, the blast exploding on impact. The guardian fell back several steps, shaking its hidden face in anguish.

The other guardian swung its sword at Mythal immediately after, hoping to catch him off guard. The God Slayer flipped over the weapon and then… disappeared? The guardian halted its sword arm, looking from side to side to try and locate the man. Hanging from the flat end of the sword was Mythal, who had flipped over the weapon and then immediately grabbed the blade so he went along for a ride. He swung his legs up and landed on top of the weapon, catching the attention of its wielder. But already Mythal was extending his free arm, compiling magic into his hand and then releasing it with a snap, the beam of dark energy tearing through the creature’s upper torso easily. Its body began to fall apart, its sword falling towards the ground. Mythal used it as a springboard to bring himself up into the air again, twisting and sending his sword flying forward like a spear.

The sharp end of the sword slammed into the stunned guardian’s chest, sending yet another agonizing wound to him. Mythal came soaring in, his right arm cloaked into shadow magic. He punched the handle of the sword, sending it crashing through the guardian’s chest and tearing out an inflated, rounded shape of ice. It wouldn’t be too hard to figure out that this was, in fact, the creature’s heart. It lay on the ground, impaled, for a moment or two before it shattered into icy dust. The guardian itself slumped backwards and landed on its back, the ground shaking from the impact. It lay for a moment before it, also, shattered into millions of ice particles.

Mythal walked through the ice pieces and pulled Curse out from underneath it, shaking it off and sliding it back to rest against his lower back. “Now then…” he mumbled, turning to look back at the town. “Where’s Arcadia?”

Arcadia was not sure how well Mythal would recognize her. She still hadn't found a permanent fix for the de-aging curse she had been under since the first time he met her, but she had a workaround. The charm anklet she now wore had the side effect of allowing her normal self to show.  She'd find out soon enough, the teenage Arcadia picked up faint traces of Mythal's scent. It wasn't instant recognition, but she had familiarized herself enough with it, that she made the connection on the second or third whiff.

It was mingled in with the general scent of the village, the barefoot blonde slayer hurried in that direction. As she went, the scents only grew stronger, and she could finally see the village. She  glanced around, wondering how many villagers she could warn about the ice dragon that would be helping them.  It might be easier to save fighting in dragon form away from the village than running around the village to assure they don't panic.

That was provided that the creatures plaguing the isolated village cooperated by not wandering into the village proper. The barefoot slayer hurried through the village, following her nose. It always knows... where to find what she's looking for. She was surprised at how calm most of the villagers seemed, as most of those she passed inside the village were going about their daily routine.

Then again, Arcadia had been impressed by the defenses the guards had set up when entering the village. The barefoot slayer thought they should be able to hold out indefinitely by the looks of them.  The village was also not as busy as one would expect a resort like this to be.  Holding out was all the people who called this village home were really doing.

With the fight she had on just arriving, Arcadia could imagine the high stakes adventure it must be for these people to venture out and bring back even the most mundane supplies.

Watching a few townspeople haggling with a shopkeeper, Arcadia felt a sudden pressure headache. She knew exactly who it was, but she saw nor heard any sign of the dream demon that had been haunting her off and on since her last trip to Valhalla. What she did see was a Great and Ancient Ice Wyrm, dwarfing any building in the village. It was a wonder she fit in the street at all. No one else seemed to notice the massive ice dragon. It clearly was not a vision of herself, because as a dragon Arcadia was maybe the size of a smaller building, she was no where near dwarfing them all. She then recognized the great ice wyrm as her mother, Khione Glacier.

Arcadia now also noted a man standing just ahead of her mother, a man she did not need even a second to recognize even at distance. With his long and wild blue and black hair blowing in the cold breeze, it was unmistakably Acnologia. Her one time childhood hero and idol.

The barefoot slayer tried to fight off the waking nightmare the dream demon had set up. Dragon and human frozen in time, seemingly staring each other down. Both stood motionless until, Arcadia's headache spread, and her nose bled a small trickle. The dream demon forced the memory into motion. Quiet tears blurred her faerie green gaze, Arcadia drawn back into that moment.

Khione Glacier greeted the stone-faced Acnologia. "So... Acnologia, are the rumors true? Have you turned against even those of us who taught you the power to stand up for your people?"

The legendary dragon slayer remained expressionless, coldly responding, "All dragons must perish. There can be no peace as long as even one still lives."

With nothing else to say, Khione Glacier took to the skies and Acnologia followed. Arcadia felt her heart leap up into her throat. She knew she shouldn't call out, but it couldn't be helped. "Acnologia!! What're you doing?! That's my mom!"

Arcadia watched the life and death struggle wheel around the sky above. Either they could not hear her or just ignored her calls. To Arcadia's growing sense of relief, Khione Glacier was slowly gaining the upper hand. Her foster mother finally managed to throw Acnologia off her back. Khione Glacier positioned herself in a steep dive to drive and crush Acnologia into the ground.

On the way down, Acnologia activated the series of magic circles he had been placing all along. Khione Glacier's soul was rendered from her ice crystalline body. It would be her limp form that would crash into the ground. Arcadia's deep green eyes watched wide in terror and shock, tears blurring her vision further. "Moooom!!!"

Acnologia emerged from the resulting dust cloud in his dreaded dragon form, prepared to finish off the fallen great ice dragon. In her grief, Arcadia rushed out and roared a torrent of freezing mist and razor ice straight up at Acnologia's now draconic face. The apocalyptic monster was not fazed one bit. Acnologia just turned his gaze down at Arcadia as if only just now noticing the young dragon slayer's existence.

Arcadia shut her faerie green eyes tight, shaking her head and finally tearing herself free of the dream demon's waking nightmare. Opening her eyes slowly, she wiped them dry, and found herself the one being watched. Ordinarily, that would be mortifying enough.  She still had a dream demon to deal with though, so she snarled in quiet defiance, "Doesn't matter how many times you show me that or anything else, I'll never give in."

She smoothed down her dress, and walked on like none of that had just happened. There is not much one can say to total strangers who just witnessed you yelling out to thin air. Arcadia continued to follow her nose toward Mythal's scent. The young blonde slayer did her best to not look like she just had a waking nightmare. Rubbing her cheeks and eyes dry for sure, she focused on spotting Mythal.

Following her nose around one corner, she finally did find him. she smiled and waved, "Hey there!"
