Never having been to Snowfall Island, Arcadia had to get there the old fashioned way. She was meeting her guildmate, Mythal, there, but without knowing if he as there already that could lead her to traveling most of the way there the hard anyway. All depending on how far Mythal was on his journey. There was also the fact, the young blonde slayer was hoping the long flight would help clear her head, and give her a better handle on all the extra mass. All the extra magic she felt flowing through her since her last exam had resulted in a tremendous increase in the size and strength of her dragon form. Not quite a full dragon yet, but no longer the cute little wyrmling she was when her dragon form first emerged.
As she flew in the skies approaching Snowfall Island, she was now the size of a gray whale, about 49 feet (15m) long. A couple hundred tuns of nearly solid ice kept aloft her massive wings. Flurries of snow traveled with her, with or without clouds. Snowfall Island was probably one of the few places it would not be out of place. Her currently, sparkling faerie green eyes the one indicator of the kind young girl inside the body of the small flying iceberg.
Considering the job they had brought them out this far, she could easily be mistaken for one of the creatures they came to put down. She had meant to land some distance from the village, tokeep from adding to their alarm. Fate had something else in mind, the young adult ice dragon spotting trouble below as she arrived over Snowfall Island. There was a small group of what appeared to be villages being harassed by some ice monsters. If she remembered from the descriptions correctly, they were what the locals called Ice Mongrels, about five of them.
She laughed a little to herself, because it didn't take her long to think of 3m tall ice monsters as not that big in her recent growth as a dragon. Unfortunately, they did still look rather large in comparison to the villagers they were chasing. So much for landing to get her bearings, and tracking down Mythal before getting into the thick of things.
To keep an element of surprise, she suppressed the snow flurries that naturally followed her around for the time being, and also conjured a cloud of ice crystals to bend light around her with. The young adult ice dragon was soon invisible, and content she would keep the added trauma to the villagers to a minimum. One more thing she was uncertain of. Being ice creatures like herself, she had no idea how resistant they would be to cold. Thus she called on the power of Odin melded into her form with the Silver Star charm anklet she had been wearing, focusing its divine energy to covert the output of her magic from ice to elemental crystal.
The invisible dragon swooped down raking the Ice Mongrels with her crystallized roar. She unleashed a whirling torrent of powdered crystal and larger razor crystal shards, leaving behind a thing coating crystal on the ground and on the mongrels. Pulling up, she banks sharply around after climbing back up a couple hundred feet. Her first pass had left the ice monsters distracted enough to let the villager's slip away.
Coming back around again, she swooped down again. This time she targeted a mongrel furthest away from the others. Rather than tackling it to the ground, she she used her greater size and strength to fly off with it. Back up a couple hundred feet, she rolled and slung the mongrel back toward one of its companions on the ground. The harsh, crunching impact left both mongrels motionless.
She let herself go visible again as she dove back down, crushing a third mongrel under a couple hundred tons of ice. A small dragon-shaped glacier shook the earth locally when she landed. That and her visibility did what she meant. It kept the last two ice mongrels from going off after the villagers. She flinched taking a few of their conjured ice spikes, though only the coldest and sharpet of the spikes would put a scratch in her hard icy hide. The rest were simply too brittle compared to her cold resistant form.
Now that the last two were close enough to strike with their ice spike spell, Arcadia could stomp the ground with a clawed forefoot, spreading crystal out along the ground that would grow up to encase the mongrel's feet. It was just thick enough to hold them fast for a moment. That moment was all she needed to draw on her specialized magic scissors, that like her charm anklet had melded into her dragon form. She used their limited hands-free ability to open a portal under the mongrels' feet, letting them plummet through. The exit portal was opened about a hundred meters straight up and pointed down.
That was the end of that when the two mongrels impacted from so high. Arcadia briefly shifted the focus of her magic back to its natural ice, and drew on its slow healing freezing numbness to soothe away the few scratches the ice spikes had left. Her faerie green gaze swept around the area to make sure it finally quiet. The scent of the villagers was feint now, so she had to assume they had went back to the village. She reverted back to form of a barefoot teenage human girl, a sparkling charm anklet around her left ankle, and a softly glowing crystal moon rose behind her left ear.
The pale blonde slayer sighed in relief, and took in the beauty of her surroundings now that she could. She headed off in the direction she thought she smelled the village. It was time to see if she could pick Mythal's scent out from among them, and do her best to reassure the villagers that any ice dragon they see in the near future is actually the help they sent for.
