The creature dashed towards Frederick, still screaming Cecilia's voice. And head butted him with such an impact that Frederick flew several meters back and rolled over the ground. Coughing and grasping for air he crawled back up, only to notice that he was just a few meters apart from the door of his old home. Frederick got frightened being so close to the house, it scared him he was afraid of it. After al this was his inner demon. The house where she died in.
He backed slowly backed away from it but behind him he could here the screams of the creature again. It seemed that the house was the only option he had because the demon was too strong for him.
He could feel the sweat of al the moving around running down his neck, but it could also be from that he was scared. He fell down on his knees and the dark mist covered most of his body now. He was at a loss. He saw no possible way to win this fight, the tormenting memories and strength of the horrifying creature was too much for him. Tears started to well up again and started dripping down his cheeks.
'How can this be.. how, can I fail her'
Frederick crunched his hands to fists in the muddy ground under him, or at least that was how it felt. There was no way he could see that through the ominous mist.
'Mud..' he spoke softly
And he pulled his right hand from the ground and looked at it. He uttered the word mud a few more times and then stoop up while saying out loud almost screaming. 'MUD!!!'
'This is not my house! We've never had any muddy ground in front of our house! It was always paved with light brown bricks! And flowerbeds cordoned off with a small whit fence!'
He started to feel where he was hit by the creature, and it felt normal. He quickly ripped open the blouse under his cloak and couldn't locate any bruises or contusions. Something what should been there after being head butted by full force.
'I..I've been played all along, by nothing but a mere illusion!'
He stood back up again, and turned around towards the creature. Who was now awfully close to Frederick and had taken the head of Cecilia on once again. But it was a distorted face, it smiled with pointy teeth while it's saliva dripped down it's chin.
But Frederick didn't feel any anxiety anymore, or at least he didn't show it. He was now staring serious at that distorted form of Cecilia.
'You know, first I thought I was afraid of that house. The place where you died in my arms, and became an empty void for me in your absence. But no, that wasn't it. Instead of that what I actually was afraid of. Was confronting the uncertainty that I will never see you again, that all my searching for answers was nothing more but a waste of time.'
The creature didn't move a muscle it just stood there with his crimson red legs, staring with it's empty eyes hiding behind the pretty face of Frederick's fiancee. It was almost as if it was listening to him.
'But there is no reason for that, because I will never stop trying to bring her back even if it means that it will result in my dead. And even then I will know that I have tried everything in my own power. Even if it means that I will plunge the entire world in a darkness that it has never seen before.
So you see I will not be running away from it anymore, and I will certainly not run away from a MERE ILLUSION!!'
Frederick stood there firmly, looking back at the creature. Awaiting some sort of response. After clearing a piece of the void in his own heart he felt relieved and felt as if he could take on the world. It was holding him down, because even if his goals were dark and considered evil. It were true feelings of the heart.
The creature started smiling at him, not the rotten and twisted smile it always did before. But more a smile that seems satisfied with what it just heard. And vaguely started to disappear.
