Clover, a place where legends retired and spent their days as ex mages so to say, the town was build upon an island surrounded by a beautiful lake. It was currently night time but said town's was shining bright, as a festival was currently ongoing. More of a carnival then a festival, but the town's people didn't mind, families would bring they're children, and other people a loved one or just spend their time with friends. Winning prizes, participating in games made solely for having fun, eating cotton candy and different types of other sweet foods, or just to watch the circus that would be held later tonight. A little girl by the age of ten ran around the stands, as a rather older couple followed closely behind her. "Sara don't go too far!" The father of the girl exclaimed a bit louder enough for his daughter to hear him, still a smile was present on his face as he walked hand in hand with his wife. The man looked to be in his sixties and yet his hair was not entirely white or gray, it still had a lot of black in it. Next to him his wife, a woman in her fifties her hair not even having a streak of gray hair, both wearing classy outfits, but the little girl, Sara, was wearing rather more simple and plain clothing then her parents, wearing a black skirt with an orange T-Shirt, the same jet black hair as her mother. It was clear that the family as a whole was respected as the girl's parents were addressed as Lady and Lord Ravencrest. The people didn't bow to them which even pleases the family more, they we're old mages, their magic was weaker then it was before and they had chosen the beautiful town to retire like many others did and just watch over their little raven until she would grow up to be strong enough to care for herself. Hours passed as the little girl went stand to stand and played games or just watched others do it, at one point she even got her face painted to that of a lion's one. Soon the circus had started its performance. Dancers, lion trainers, acrobats, and even some mages had come and used magic in an entertaining way for the crown. In the end it was a normal circus for the magical world, big fireworks going off in the background as it signaled the end of the festival later into the night, families and friends made their ways home, some exhausted, drunk or sober, everyone was going home including the Ravencrest family. Sara road on her fathers sholders as she happily listed the things she had done to her parents, that would either smile or laugh at her antics. They lived on a hilltop close to Clover about ten to fifteen minutes of hiking and one would be there it wasn't hidden, you would just need to follow a pathway and in the end you would be in a clearing.

"Sara remember to brush your teeth before bed, and also we're starting training tomorrow by lunch so you can sleep a bit more then usual" Lady Ravencresh yelled from inside the spacious house that stood in a clearing behind the house a small hill overlooking Clover. They had arrived moments ago and she had helped her daughter wash of the paint from her face before she left her in the bathroom the finish her other responsibilities. A few minutes more and said little girl emerged from the bathroom changed into pajamas, hugged both of her parents "Goodnight mum, goodnight dad" she said as the both her parents wished her goodnight. They would stay a bit more talking in private and soon they would also end the peaceful and happy night.

A bloody night to remember (Private; Jester) Jes17A bloody night to remember (Private; Jester) Jes17A bloody night to remember (Private; Jester) Jes17

In the streets of Clover, there was a sweet energy, thick with joy and laughter. It radiated through the streets like an invisible miasma, there was so much happiness, it was infectious. Most of it's citizens could be seen smiling or enjoying themselves. Having spent their day at the carnival was currently underway, their day had been a pleasant one. At least this applied to most folk, there was however one exception to the rule.

He had heard the word on the street, the carnival having come to town. Having hid himself in an alleyway, his body covered in sweat as he contemplated it's proximity. He could have left town, but he didn't. His feet had spent the last few hours glued to the spot, almost in a trancelike state, as he stared into the dark wall across from him.

Hurts, hurts, hurts. He thought, erratically, holding onto the sides of his face. His eyes wild with the glow of insanity. He couldn't contain it, he wanted to go, he wanted to kill. But the small rationale, that lingered was stopping him. Not for the guilt or fear, but because it meant pain even he couldn't handle. The pain of nostalgia.

Pain, pain, pain. He thought, bending his knees, so that he was crouched on the ground. Hands tugging roughly on his hair, causing it to spike up in all directions. He was there for several hours more, the endless train of thoughts attacking him. Then like a switch there was a sound, ripping him from the trance, laughter. Specifically, the laughter of a child. He hissed, his golden eyes darting out to the exit of the alleyway, he stared with a cold intensity. Not blinking for several moments, he waited, his face contorted in a snarl. Then he spotted her, riding the shoulders of her father. She must have been about ten, long black hair, and fair skin. And worst of all, happy. Practically glowing with the putrid aura of a family that had spent their day at that place.

Jester's face became blank, suddenly he appeared very calm. He stood slowly, creeping to the edge of the alleyway, he watched the Ravencrest family as they headed home. He had heard of the Lord and Lady through casually eavesdropping through town. Whispers, a noble folk wanted to retire to a peaceful town. The people here treated them as normal, but some knew. The corners were rumours were spoken in hush, the corners that reached the ears of even such a unstable clown. So this was them, such a happy and humble gang.

Slowly, a small smile crept onto Jester's lips as an idea came to mind. A wonderful, delicious, awful idea. Disappearing into the shadows of the alleyway, Jester took a look at the walls either side. They were close, close enough to scale. Jumping up, he kicked his legs out to each side, and began to make his way up the wall. Up and up, until he was able to use a gutter to climb onto the roof of the building. As he stood there, he watched the Ravencrest family in the distance, and using the cover on the rooftops, he began to follow Stalking. Keeping far enough back so as to avoid any 'magical' detection.

When the Ravencrest family arrived at their home, Jester had managed to hide himself behind a tree before the clearing opened up. Staring with cold eyes, he watched the family from the distance. There were still glowing with happiness, that was good, bad but good. Because they would have lowered their guard, and why wouldn't they. No one died on a die like this, that would be preposterous.

Jester approached the home, his feet light and practically silent as he made his approached. Kneeling down in front of the door, he checked the lock. He smirked, good folks, locking their door. Very good for them. Harder for him. but not that hard. Holding out his hand, there was a ripple and a card appeared. He glanced at it.

    Three of hearts.

How cute. He thought, before taking the card, he slid it between the gap of the door and it's frame. It's sharp edge carving through the wood, he pulled on the door softly, and as the wood severed, it gave. Barely making a sound, he tucked the card behind his ear and slid inside. Pulling the door to behind him, he slid through the hallways, his soft light feet airy and soundless. Jester knew how to tread carefully, he had spent years learning back in that tent, walking on the thinnest of wires. He had learned, he had mastered. He came to a room, hearing voices, he peeked through the gap of the door. There they were, hugging their daughter goodnight.

    That happy, little girl.
    Lovely, happy little girl.
    Lovely, happy, disgusting little girl.

Jester slid back behind the door as she left the room and headed off the bed, oblivious to his presence. Smirking, he moved away, there was another little ripple, and two wooden dolls appeared. One of a man and a one of a woman. The guy, Jack, carried a butchers knife, and the girl, Jill, carried a carving blade. Jester set them to work, the door was wide enough for them to walk through unnoticed. They began their approach, there steps making almost no noise. Moments later there was the sound of a swish and a scream could be heard, following by yelling. Jester shuddered in pleasure, reaching forward he gently nudged the door open. Revealing the most splendid site.

On the floor was Lord Ravencrest, a carving knife buried deep in his skull, his blood already pooling on the floor. Jill next to his body hopping from leg to leg in a little jig. Then a few metres away, lay a screaming Lady Ravencrest, trying to fight off the Jack as he swung the butchers knife at her. A deep gash already in her shoulder. Jester brought his hands up, hugging himself, biting his lip in a with a look of intense satisfaction.

The night so far had gone amazing for the small girl, not only that she had the most fun in a long time, but also her training in the next day would start later then usual, giving her more time to sleep. Sara had just gotten to bed, exhaustion finally taking its toll on her from all the running around the carnival's different stands. Small amethyst eyes closed as sleep started to overtake her, the cool wind of the night seeping into her room from the slightly opened window. Tomorrow would be like any other day for her, get up have breakfast and start training with her parents. The days repeated themselves for the little girl, sometimes she would not train and would be allowed to go into town and play with the other kids, but overall they would focus their attention in training, so she could get a better grasp at her magic. Thoughts lingered for a few more moments, before embracing peacefulness of sleep.

A blood curdling scream, woke the little black haired girl from her sleep, jolting upwards she looked around the only light being that of the moon illuminating the room. Then yelling started, making the small girl jump out of the bed, making her way towards the hallway and then to the only lit room in the household. Her parents rarely had arguments, and for them to yell this loud had poked her curiosity. Pushing the other door that led into the room open, Sara was met with a sight that would forever be burned inside her memory. There in the room her father lay on the ground in a pool of his own dark red blood, a knife sticking from his head as an odd doll danced around his legs. Then she saw her mother a deep gash in her shoulder, staining her clothes with her own blood as another doll tried to slash her with a butchers knife. Finally she took notice of the unknown person in their household, shaking but it was not from fear... no it was from pure delight at the scene that was unfolding in front of him. Sara tried to speak, but she couldn't, she just stood there mouth slightly opened, as her wide eyes stared at the events, her small body shaking in fear. Lady Ravencrest finally took notice of her, eyes growing wider, as she stared at her baby girl that was watching everything, her whole being shaking. With another loud yell, her mother told her to get out of here and run until she got to Clover. She had successfully broken Sara out of here stupor but before she could do anything the doll was able to stab her, delivering a finished blow to her as the other one had done to her husband moments before. Tears broke free, as Sara watched her mother fall to the ground with a sickening thud. Shaky hand grasped the door knob that was held on too, shutting the door, the little girl turned and ran towards the exit of the house. Bare feet soon meeting grass, but it didn't bother her, she continued to run, towards the forest, towards Clover. Although everything was cut short, as she tripped and rolled down the hill, finally rolling to a stop she looked back at her house, she couldn't stand up, as much as she wanted to, she couldn't. Fear had overtook her again.

Jester gleeful face widened when the daughter walked back into the room, he watched intensely as her face contorted in horror. Savoury the delicious moment with his golden irises, wanting to lock it in her heart forever. That horrifying moment where she witnessed the death of her mother, he wanted it's reflection in her eyes, as mesmerized as her in the moment. Only the mothers death didn't excite him nearly as much as the girls expression, that tortured face. He relished it, delicious he thought. he watched her coming to her senses. Turning and fleeing the home. Jester stared after her for a moment, making no immediate movements to follow her. His work wasn't done yet, his gaze slowly dragged back to the bodies on the floor. He smirked, the two dolls danced around them. Twirling around in each others arms as though celebrating at a festivals.

There was a ripple and the dolls disappeared. Jester held out his palm, the ripple appeared once more, out of it two black rings appeared in his grasp. He turned his gaze to the bodies and threw both rings, one landed on the wife chest, and the other the husbands stomach. In the air the rings caught alight. Igniting the clothes, and slowly beginning the burn away at the victims before him. He turned, satisfied with his work. He followed the path in which the daughter had taking. Stepping outside into the cool evening air, his magic activated once more and a unicycle appeared next to him. He climbed on top of it, and began his decent down the hill. The hills descent and the magical properties of the unicycle, moving him speedily forward in the direction of the runaway girl. He soon caught up to her, as he spotted her running in terror. He couldn't help himself, he began to cackle manically. As she tumbled to a stop, he made his way over and began circling her on the unicycle.

"Run, run as fast as you can. Don't let me catch you, I'm the ginger bread man."

He said in a sing song voice, cackling away as he biked circles round her.

Sara watched in horror as her family's assailant had already caught up to her, cackling like a maniac. Trying to overcome a some of her fear, she stood up with whimper, pain had shot from her legs more specifically her knees that we're scraped from falling down the hill, but that didn't stop her, she had to survive. And the safest place was Clover, it was too late for someone to appear out of nowhere and be her hero. She balled her hands into fists, steeling herself at the current moment. The man had said something but Sara's mind had ignored it, the only thing running through her mind. Run. Survive. Those we're the only thoughts in her mind. She watched intently and waited, as he laughed and circled her with his one wheel bike. Then the moment came, her back toward's the forest while his towards the house. On cue her small hand spread into action, palm towards him as a small black lightning bolt shot towards his general direction. She didn't need it to hit, or even if it hit she doubted the weird looking man would get hurt from it, she wasn't that good with her magic yet. No, just the distraction would be proven enough, would he be off balance for a second? Dodge and then go to finish her off like he had done with her parents? She didn't wait to find out, turning around to the forest she ran again. Moving as fast as her bare feet could carry her, into the darkness of the forest. What felt hours to the little girl was actually a couple of minutes. The forest had gone somewhat thicker the tree's closer to one another then they initially were. She had to stop soon, she didn't know how close he had followed her or was he waiting for her to collapse from running. Spotting a fallen tree she changed her direction and jumped behind it, before pressing her back and plumping on the ground. The fallen tree itself was covering her whole small form, as she panted, little bare feet hurting from all the different things she stepped on, her knee's still bloody from the fall. Tears escaped from her eyes again, sobbing as quietly as she could. Her parents we're dead and she was next in line.

Jester marvelled at the sight of the girls suffering, lapping in every delightful moment of it. Yes, Yes, this was much better. All those happy folk at the carnival, coming home to live their disgusting little happy lives. That had to stop, someone had to be punished. The poor girl had happened to walk by at the wrong time and as a result Jester had taken her life and ripped in apart. Taking away the one foundation of love she had to rely on and why shouldn't he. A dead father and a pitiful excuse for a mother. Parents were the falsest of being, showering a child with love purely because they had bore the responsibility of bringing it into the world. There was no love there, only obligation. If anything little Miss Sara Ravencrest should have been greatful to him, he had released her from the lie that was family.

"Free, Free, oh woe is thee. Such was found, now is lost, the gingerbread man came and took the cost." He continued in his non-sensical rant, spinning around her further. Letting out another laugh, he felt the bolt of magic flying towards him, small and delicate. He held out his hand. Catching it in his pain, the tiny bolt burning into his hand. He stopped circling his legs, glancing at his hand. He slowly opened his palm, revealing the ever so slightly seared flesh. He leaned in, smelling it, the hint of a magic combined with burning skin. He glanced over to where the girl had been, only to see her running through the trees. His face broke into an unnaturally wide smile, he began to chuckle, the laugh growing louder and louder. Unable to control himself any more. He spun his legs, instead of continuing after the girl, he biked away into town. Laughing in delight the whole way, oh he wouldn't kill the little girl. Not tonight, she had a whole lifetime of suffering ahead of her, he could not deprive her of that. It would've been wrong. The clown spun forward and soon disappeared into sight, mysteriously vanishing from town.
