"Character counts most when duty calls." It had been a few months since Serilda had last gone to Minstrel. The dark wizards from Fiore that she had apprehended here had been brought back to the Magic Council had been tried and charged with the kidnapping and attempted extortion of foreign nobility. They had been dumped into the prison cells in Era, where they were separated from their magics and likely wouldn’t see the light of day for quite some time. But given that the incident had occured in another country, involving arguably the richest and most prestigious family in all of Minstrel, the proceedings of the trial had taken some time. After that, there had been a mountain of paperwork to file on both sides. When all was finally said and done, all documentation regarding the event and its conclusion had been drafted and stamped, and all that was left was to deliver the items to the general of the Musketeers. Though this was a relatively simple task that would not invite any kind of danger, the council had still seen it best to send Serilda personally to make sure the records reached where they needed to go, as a continued show of apology for the misbehavior of Fiore’s wizards. It had really been on more of a whim that Serilda had invited Mythal to come along, with the simple explanation of what had occured on the job and that she was just delivering official documents to wrap the incident up. There really wasn’t a need for her friend to be there, but she thought it might be fun for them to go on a small trip together outside the country and have a chance to spend more time with one another. The two of them had been working their asses off for some time, and they could both use some extended down time to relax. She even let slip that part of her reward had been an honorary position as a Musketeer, explaining that it gave her full authority and recognition as a wizard in the country but also came with a gaudy green tunic top that was completely out of Fiore fashion, and which she would have a dutiful obligation to wear while traveling through the country on what was technically official Musketeer business. While Serilda didn’t think that Mythal really needed a reason to join her outside of her simply inviting him, she did know that he definitely wouldn’t pass up the chance to see her in the ridiculous outfit. And sure enough, just before they got to the border the Voidwalker made sure to stop and change into the get up. It was a frilly piece that went down just above her knees, was layered with cream colored lace at the hems, and bore the Musketeer crest loud and proud on the chest. It was styled to be slightly on the baggy side, with her sword belt worn on the outside to cinch the top in place around her waist. While there was no denying that the outfit looked rather smart -- everything in Mistrel was about looks and status, after all -- it was also so far removed from the styles in Fiore that even Serilda couldn’t help but feel a bit silly looking in it. A private coach had been awaiting them on the other side of the country line, and everyone that greeted her referred to her as “Sir Serilda”, as was befitting for a Musketeer. The had been travelling for a couple hours already, but were nearing their destination. Xiuh was sitting on one of the seats far to the side, her head happily poking out through the window and taking in all the sights and smells. Serilda was going through all the documents she’d brought, double checking for probably the hundredth time that everything was present and in order. “With any luck, this shouldn’t take more than a couple hours,” she told Mythal. “After that, I’m sure we’re free to do whatever we want. Anything sound interesting to you?” Words: 680/1000 |
