Howl With The Wolves!
Zeltaath's initiation to the Silver Wolf guild!
Much has happened in a short amount of time. After four long years in his nomadic ways, Zeltaath found a home and a guild to call family. Shortly after joining he found an interesting companion, a Fire Sprite called Cinder Ella. Zeltaath was happy to do this initiation into the guild. As the current day drew closer to dusk Zel finished packing the essentials needed to make the short trip and overnight camp. Apart from his normal apparel, Zel was carrying in his pack: A bag of snacks, flint, a small piece of steel, and a blanket. Strapped on top of his pack is a bedroll to place down when he sets up camp.
Zeltaath slings the pack overhead and adjusts it to better fit on his back. He calls out to his Fire Sprite, "Come on Cinder! We don't wanna miss the wolves howling." Cinder flew up to Zeltaath and rested on his head, "Indeed, a night of fun awaits us." They look at each other for a moment and burst into laughter. Zeltaath makes a huge racket as he opens the door to the hallway and slams the room door shut behind him. His feet pitter patter on the wood floor as he runs down the hall way, making his way to the main door to outside. Zel slips his shoes on and yells out to whomever would listen, "I'm off! See you all tomorrow!" The Guild hall returns to silence shortly after the front door slams shut behind Zel.
The snow crunched as Zel jumped in with both feet. With a glint in his eyes and a smile on his face, Zeltaath took off on his tiny adventure. Cinder's guiding light illuminated off the trees and snow, giving Zel a clear path to walk around as he finds the perfect spot to settle down. Initially, he had planned to do this with Quill, one of the first mages to greet him to Silver Wolf. However, unforeseen circumstances had pulled Quill's attention else where. Fortunately enough for Zel, He recently met Cinder in the Guild library and she happily decided to come along. Zel and Cinder filled the time trekking through the snow filled forest with talk of the future, their goals, and with the occasional laughter bubbling over from funny things they've said, intentional or not.
The blend of gold, orange, and vermilion red in the sky burned away into a shade of violet and purple. The pair discovered the perfect spot for them to make camp for the night. They settled down on the edge of a cliff overlooking the rest of the Phoenix Mountains. With look of astonishment the two were mesmerized by the beauty of the snow capped mountains under the night sky. Zel remarks to Cinder, "This view will only get more beautiful as the night continues on. We will have all night to enjoy it at its peak beauty. So let's not waste anytime. We need to get this camp up before the Moon comes out." He sets his pack down and leans it against a tree. "I'll go gather the wood and stone to build the fire pit. While you unpack what you can and I'll finish unpacking what you can't. Okay?" he mentioned as he walked about 20 meters into the forest to collect wood and stone.
Cinder flew over to Zel's pack and pulled on the straps releasing the bedroll on top. It rolled down the pack, over Cinder, which knocked her back and flattened her into the snow. After she dug her way out from under the bedroll and snow, she went back to the pack and continued to unpack the snacks, flint, and steel balancing them on the unrolled bed. When she went to try and unpack the blanket she felt how warm it was inside the pack and bundled her self up inside with the blanket. Getting too cozy she passed out inside, while Zel continued his search. By this point in time, Zel had gathered an arm full of firewood and by holding the bottom of his shirt Zel was carrying a handful of dry grass with several stones as well. With the cumbersome load in tow, Zel made his way back to camp. After he dumped the stuff needed for the fire off on ground he took a moment to look around and noticed that Cinder was gone. Zeltaath called out to her, "Cinder! Cinder Ella! Where did you go?" He noticed a light glowing from his pack and went over to investigate only to find her passed out and cozy, snuggled in the blanket. He smiled and decided to let her sleep while he worked on the camp.
Zeltaath used his arms to shovel out the snow in a small circle. He started with the frame of the pit, Zel took the pile of stones and placed them in a circle outlining the cleared out spot. Then he meticulously placed the firewood into the shape of a tipi, recollection of his past experience about building a fire is that if he laid the firewood flat he could cook better but in a tipi the fire would radiate more heat outward for the campers. Zel placed the dry grass on one of the flatter stones in the circle. He grabbed the flint and steel and repeatedly hit the striked the steel on the flint to create a spark. Eventually, the grass started to smoke from the sparks and Zel picked up the grass and blew air into it until the flames roared to life and he could place it into the tipi. While he let the fire grow more and more he unrolled the bed and placed it near the fire. He had taken the snacks that were placed onto the packed up roll and moved them onto the opened up bed. As he went to put the flint and steel back in the pack he decided to pick up the sleeping sprite, with the blanket, and placed her by the fire.
The clouds dispersed in the, now fully night, sky and revealed the stars and the gorgeous full moon hanging down from above them. The full moon shined brightly enough that they could still see the surrounded landscape. Off in the distance Zel and Cinder could hear the wolves finally howling in that cold snowy night. A look of radiating excitement and happiness streaked across their faces. Zeltaath got on all fours and sat, imitating a wolf, with Cinder perched on his head doing the same. They held their heads back and looked at the moon as they begun to Howl at the moon along with the wolves off in the distance, "Ahrwoooooooo!" More wolves would take notice and the activity would pick up among the wolves. Zel and Cinder would laugh until their stomachs hurt at the ridiculousness of seeing each other imitating wolves. They would howl again, "AhrwooOOoo!" Zel's voice cracked and Cinder fell into the snow laughing causing Zel's face to glow more red as she persisted. He decided to take that moment to rest his voice from the strain and sat on his bed wrapped in his blanket as he ate some snacks.
However, while the two did bring snacks from the guild hall. Zel grabbed two pieces of firewood left off to the side and stuck the tips into the fire. After they caught fire Zel stuck one in the ground for Cinder to fly over and munch on. With the other stick of fire, Zel breathed in deeply and the fire in one big stream flowed into his mouth until there was none left on the stick. He stuck the tip back into the fire place and swallowed the fire that was currently in his mouth and sighed in relief. "Ahhh that is some tasty fire." Zel repeated this multiple times throughout the night until he got his fill, then he would occasionally eat some of the snacks. For water, he would create a snowball and tilt his head back. The snowball would then be heated up by increasing the temperature in his hands. The water would then just pour from his hands into his mouth. In between eating and drinking Zel would get back up to howl at the moon once the Wolves started back up. This continued until eventually he passed out well past midnight, on his bed with the blanket wrapped around him.
Zel was woken up by the sun that peaked over the mountains and shined in his eyes. Cinder occasionally dragged a piece of firewood over from the pile to keep the fire going throughout the night; due to the fact that she couldn't sleep due to the nap she took prior in Zel's pack. So when Zel woke up he'd drink his snowball of water and be able to eat his fill of fire for breakfast, the fire was put out in the process. He let Cinder sleep on top of his head while he packed up the camp and slung his pack back over his head onto his back. The snowy forest in the early hours of the morning was a sight to behold as he made his trek back to the guild and silently thought to himself as Cinder slept on his head.
