- Personality:
Personality: Karasuki Kitsuharu goes by many nicknames: Kara, Suki, and a few other secret ones that are just between her and specific friends. Karasuki has a lot of personality but can have trouble letting all of herself show. She is profoundly intelligent and spent most of her life in a library. Her parents were destitute and at the age of 5, they gave her up, leaving her behind to roam the streets of Oak Town. An elderly woman discovered the hungry and ragged girl sitting on the steps of her bookstore, and consequently raised her. The woman, Isadora Kitsuharu, was strict and focused on the care of the books. She brought her up in the ways of caring for the shop, the books, and the people who entered the small bookstore. Karasuki found fewer joys in her youth than organizing and cataloguing the books, or finding a soft worn armchair with a book in which to lose herself. As an adult, she worked as the primary caretaker, using her dexterity to repair books with damaged bindings and moldy pages when Isadora’s hands began to gnarl and fail to complete such tasks. Karasuki is creative and loves the world of fantasy and the genre of nonfiction books which detail the significant discoveries made my explorers around the world.
Karasuki would love to see the world and enjoys traveling and trying new things. Her favorite childhood and adulthood activity was being sent out on errands to collect the broken books from the famous library of Oak Town and repair them for the general populace before returning them to the community library. She is very compassionate, empathic and sweet at heart, but she struggles with humor. Her favorite kind of joke is a pun or a play on words, but most other jokes go over her head. She can be socially awkward and without many life experiences it can be hard for her to relate to others, however Karasuki always tries to get along socially. It is not unheard of for her to be confused or not understand something that is going on, but pretend that she does anyway. She greatly desires to be like the heroes in her books and welcomes any kind of challenge as an opportunity for growth. As kind as Karasuki can be, she has a secret and intense temper. When she lashes out, she holds nothing back and all the gentleness perceived in her can be warped into the complete opposite of what she usually is- night and day.
Karasuki loves her coffee and drinks it several times a day. It can make her edgy, restless and energetic. Karasuki has never been in battle, but she finds the idea exhilarating. She takes her combat seriously but doesn’t have the experiences to give her an idea of what to do in practice outside of the pages of a book. She has a high respect for those who know what they are doing and would adore the chance of learning at the hands of people who know how to fight. She isn’t much of a leader, but takes direction very well and offers her own ideas for strategies. She is more likely to out think an opponent than to win in an outright combat.
Likes:- Books: Anything to do with books, reading, fixing, organizing, even the smell of books is Karasuki’s favorite smell. They relax her and bring her peace, as if just having a book is like bringing her entire home with her.
- Coffee: Karasuki is a coffee connoisseur; she drinks only coffee and water. She loves the taste of coffee, munching on coffee beans in between cups of java. Her favorite part of traveling includes that she can taste different brews.
- Learning: Karasuki has read every book in the shop where she was raised and has learned much from those books. She taught herself several languages, how to sew, and how to make delicious varieties of soups. Yet, she believes her greatest learning is always yet to come and actively seeks it out with a new mantra, ‘learn by doing’.
Dislikes:- Dishonesty: A little white lie, here and there, is not so bad. Truly, Karasuki cannot stand lies about important matters. She prefers the truth every time and finds those who are dishonest about important matters so detestable, they are like the villains in her stories. This can make her lose her temper.
- Mistreatment of Others: Human, animal, some other sort of race, it does not matter to Karasuki. What matters to her is what is in your heart and if you treat any living creature poorly, she is likely to step in and intervene. Regardless of her own safety, she puts others first.
- Tomatoes: Karasuki hates tomatoes. She doesn’t like them small, big, cooked, fresh or of any color. There is no such thing as a good tomato. When she was young, she had a multitude of rotten tomatoes thrown at her by some school bullies. When she noticed that they were filled with flies and maggots, she nearly got sick, and it has since then haunted her.
Motivations:- Isadora the Bookseller: Karasuki was largely raised by an elderly bookshop owner named Isadora. When Karasuki reached her young adult age, she became more curious about venturing out and leaving Oak Town. Isadora instilled in her a sense of wanderlust despite that she never left Oak Town and Karasuki is eager to make Isadora proud by collecting stories and returning to Oak Town someday as an accomplished writer and explorer.
- Curiosity: Karasuki has a natural eagerness and interest in learning. She believes that she has done all of her learning through the pages of books and now is the time to learn by doing and experiencing life outside of her town.
- Her Parents: Karasuki hopes to find out who her parents were and why she was left behind in Oak Town. Karasuki has vague memories of them both and craves to know if they are alive. She desires a relationship with her parents and to find out if they loved her and left her for a good reason or if they abandoned her because they felt nothing for her.
Fears:- Lizards: She has no fear of snakes, but lizards and salamanders are too strange to her. From books she learned about the many capabilities of lizards and everything from iguanas, to salamanders and even to the infamous dragons, Karasuki has a lot of apprehension of creatures that can survive such harsh environmental conditions and do anything from walking on water to spitting acid.
- Social Situations: Connected to the bullying Karasuki experienced while growing up, as well as the knowledge that she rarely socialized with people outside of her bookshop, she is afraid of ending up in a social situation and misinterpreting the situation to her own demise. Even though she is an adult, she is still concerned of how she is perceived and avoids confrontation with others.
- The Number 5: Karasuki is actually very cautious and conscious about the number 5. Not usually superstitious, Karasuki believes that 5 is her unlucky number because that was how old she was when she was left behind in Oak Town. She tries to avoid situations that create the number 5, but if unavoidable she is left in an awkward on edge situation where Karasuki can seem paranoid or anxious. It doesn’t really inhibit her ability to function normally, as she can push through the fear and superstition, but it is a fear she has nevertheless.
- Books: Anything to do with books, reading, fixing, organizing, even the smell of books is Karasuki’s favorite smell. They relax her and bring her peace, as if just having a book is like bringing her entire home with her.
- Appearance:
General Appearance
Height: 5'7'' or 170 cm
Weight: 115 lb or 52 kg
Hair: Dark purple, shoulder length, layers on the sides and front bangs
Eyes: Amber, Gold, Brown, they shift slightly depending on mood between shades of brown
Skin Tone: Light colored, but she tans easily in the sun
Appearance: Karasuki is average height for a woman, but is overly thin. She has pretty amber colored eyes that shift like Tiger’s Eye gems in the light. Her dark purple hair is in many layers surrounding her face and falling to her shoulders in perfect straight edges. Usually, she wears her hair in a side pony tail or a braid behind her left ear. When it comes to overall size, the woman has a small frame, long limbs give her an almost gangly look but her arms and legs are strong from working in the bookshop. Karasuki has pale skin, but tans and burns very easily in the sunlight. She smiles often, using her whole face with any expression that she makes, but her open and vulnerable look and thin form make her the target for the bullies of the world.
Karasuki wears mostly used clothing, anything that she can find. She dresses in comfortable or vintage styles, wearing tall boots with long flowing dresses or wearing vests, corsets, and puffy sleeves. She prefers a long coat with fitted sleeves if she is working on book repair, and can forget to take it off. Wearing the coat on its own brings her comfort. Occasionally, if she is feeling relaxed or fun she will wear fashionable scarves, but these too tend to look worn or have holes. If it isn’t literally torn to shreds or falling apart at the seams to the point where not even her dexterous hands can repair it, Karasuki is likely to keep it. She sees no sense in throwing away wearable clothing simply for an upgraded fashion. She has no particular color scheme as a favorite but her favorite article of clothing is a loose boat-necked set of sweaters that she found in a lost and found bin years ago. In public, she tries to blend in by wearing long layered skirts and multiple layered tops, hoping that at least one of her selections would be enough to keep her in positive light. The only jewelry she owns is an old emerald pendant in the shape of a small tree branch that was given to her by Isadora upon her leaving Oak Town.
