Job: Find This Book! (Jerrishan)

Scene Entry:
Peace Village

Jerrishan sat ensconced in his self-designed vehicular transport, the wheels slowly turning as he waited patiently behind a slower-moving horse drawn wagon bearing today's produce for the markets. He was seated comfortably, most of the design of the vehicle given over to cabin space, with Archive's Main Terminal mounted on the small table before him. Area Mapping was displayed on the main screen as the vehicle ambled along, controlled by Archive's auto-navigation... what Jerri used in place of a steering wheel. A lesser screen hovered above his lap which he used to review updates sent by the communication lacrima of his underlings, gingerly sipping a mixed-fruit drink.

In the passenger seat, one such underling accompanied him, the high-ranking Division Head of the Knights keeping only one soldier in his retinue at a time. For now, we'll call him Bob. Bob was a decent sort of fellow, not a Rune Knight like his superior, but still a decent soldier from the rank and file of Fiore's military. He'd been picked for this assignment due to his clean record, and notes on high morality. Granted, though the pay was certainly better, acting as an assistant and guard for the normally quiet and sometimes rather odd Inquisitor could be vexing at best.

Finally continuing past the wagon, Jerri assumed direct control with a second screen and parked the vehicle outside of a dusty old house at the back end of the village. Bob knew better than to ask questions, but he did not see the reason why a high-ranking member of the military would be out here to fetch a book for an old woman. On that note, Jerri didn't feel like answering it anyway even if the question had been asked.

Scene Transition:
Old Manor, Mission Contact

Bob looked over to his employer for a moment as Jerrishan pulled his Terminal out of the car's forward table. The vehicle's nearly-silent thrumming coming to a halt as its controller was dislodged. The left door opened, and one immaculately white boot set down on the dusty ground of the worn path. Pulling the rest of his lean body out of its sitting position, Jerri cast his weathered gaze around the area before straightening his top. As always, Jerri never left Era's compound while wearing any sort of Rune Knights' identification or insignia visible upon his person.

Likewise, the soldier exiting the vehicle on the other side was equally plains-clothes. Bob leaned up against the now-closed door and lifted a hand to shield his eyes from the sun. Jerri had ambled up into the house, and it'd likely be a few minutes until he heard back from his superior, so he spent the time looking over the village from what he could see at his vantage point. Quaint place, real calm - nothing like the barracks at the capitol. He soon grew bored with waiting, but maintained his nonchalant poise and position, waiting for Jerri's negotiations with the job-poster to end.

Scene Focus:
At the Manor (It's not like it's been a year or anything)

The senior Knight and self-titled Inquisitor, bedecked in clothing suited to the locale - a casual blue shirt that was left not tucked in, and a pair of serviceable baggy brown pants over the top of his extremely white boots. He looked clean, if a tad slovenly and otherwise unremarkable. Not unremarkable enough to seem as if though this was his intent, but just that proper shade of 'how utterly mundane and boring' that would only draw the eye just long enough to dismiss. Jerrishan was good at that... he had to be, both in life and as part of his job description. As he reflected on that, he supposed that wasn't really part of his job description at the moment - as Intelligence Head, he could be considered the Spymaster as well, but a position of leadership meant one of delegation.

Which begs the question why he wasn't at his office, and was instead taking a cup of tea with a tired-looking elderly woman, discussing the details of a job better left to cadets for experience in the field. Jerri supposed it was really more just a show of good faith, that the Knights and Council still cared about the common person. He wasn't particularly listening to her, but he was still mentally logging everything she said while he sat with one leg over the other and his hands clasped lightly before him.

Scene Focus:
Living Room

Jerrishan leaned forward as the elderly woman finished speaking, elbows on his knees and hands together before him still. His eyes were somewhat focused on the lady as he prepared himself to speak. Given who and what he was, he did not need to confirm what she had said - but he'd learned it made him seem easier to relate to and tended to put people at ease when they were sure he understood them.

"If I have understood your request correctly, madame. You are looking for a dated book that should be in stock at the town's library. This book is rare, due to being out of print for a few decades. The title of the book itself is 'Third Mystical Axis', falls under adventure/romance in genre, and was penned by Malen Litrose under the pen name Light-Rose McDougal?"

He pretended to be writing all this down as she nodded, quietly confirming his little expositional onslaught. With a warm smile on his features, he stood up and bowed to the citizen acting as his client for the time being. Strands of his pale auburn hair fell to either side of his face as he made his respectful bow.

"Very well, miss. If the book is still at the library, you shall have it in your hands soon. As always, the Knights care for those under their protection."

With that softly spoken promise, he departed from her presence, making his way back out to Bob and signaling the soldier that it was time to head down to the target zone. The carriage could be left on its own - only an Archive user could operate it, and this one was keyed to his unique Terminal signature.

Scene Transition:
Down the Road

Bob stepped away from the carriage to fall in beside the Inquisitor. For all the world they appeared to be a layabout and an average Joe. Little had the soldier expected for his superior officer to be taking the part of the layabout, and in so natural a fashion. Stepping in beside Jerrishan, he inquired as to the nature of the target and the information that had been acquired.

Speaking in an amiable and the somewhat animated manner of two familiar with each other, Jerrishan filled in Bob on the details of the mission as they made their way out towards the library proper. As he finished recounting those details while passing persons on the street and stepping out of the way of street-goers, he spoke up once more.

"Essentially Bob, we just need to go make sure the book is there. Then we just need to acquire it and bring it back to the Miss and we should be back on our way home."

Having spoken to Jerri when being selected, Bob know the Inquisitor's mode of speech was much less warm and informal than it currently was - and remained somewhat surprised that such a machine-like man could affect casual and downright friendly tones like flicking a lightswitch. They quieted down as they neared the building - some commotion about as parents dragged away a child here or there.
