Re: The Plague (1/5)
Johann had been travelling for a few days now, roaming the grasslands and hills in the east of Fiore. He was on his way to Magnolia, but still, it would be a short while before he would arrive there, and now after days of walking and sleeping in a tent, the only thing he craved most was good food and a real bed. The next planned stop however was Clover Town, and even that was still a long way for someone who was travelling on foot. Johann didn't really care too much, it couldn't be helped, after all, so there was no sense in being mad about this situation he found himself in. He had to get to Clover Town somehow, and sitting around certainly wouldn't help. Johann was so lost in his own thoughts while wandering along the road that he didn't notice the gigantic beanstalk that appeared on the horizon, stemming all the way up to the clouds, until he got a bit closer.
He had heard about this place on his travels. A gigantic beanstalk could only mean he was close to Beanstalk Village, one of the oldest villages in this area. Maybe, Johann thought, he could find a restaurant or even a hotel there so he wouldn't have to sleep in his tent this night. A grin made its way on Johann's face and he decided to head to Beanstalk Village. An hour later, he arrived at the base of the ginormous beanstalk. Looking around, he noticed that most villagers seemed to live in large tents of a sort unlike anything Johann had seen before, and his hope of finding a real bed to sleep in dwindled astronomically fast. He let out a sigh and went to ask a villager about a restaurant or anything similar when he noticed that there was a stone house at the other end of the village. He decided that this was his best bet and made his way over.
He knocked on the door and was greeted by a relatively young, but rather confused looking woman, who wore what looked like a scientists outfit. "Oh, I didn't expect ... so soon ... uhh, s-sorry, forgive my rambling, you must be here for the job, r-right?", she asked Johann, who now also shared her confused looked. He , frankly, had no idea what the woman was talking about. "It seems there is a misunderstanding here, madam. I am looking for a hotel, not for a job. But still, would you kindly explain what you are referring to ? I think I could be of service". "Oh, well, this is awkward. I thought ... n-nevermind. Why don't you come in. I'll explain everything over a cup of tea if you really are interested in helping out".
Johann stepped into the house, which looked a little messy, with papers and books scattered across the floor, and sat down at a small table. The woman handed him a cup of tea and, to Johanns surprise, the cup contained some of the best mint tea he had ever tasted.
The woman explained that she was a herbalist who was studying the local flora and that recently a new type of plant had appeared in the area that seemed to be poisonous. She had never heard of this plant however and it seemed to be rather dangerous, as it had already sent a dozen of people she had hired to the hospital , so she figured she needed a mage to try and get some samples for her. She offered Johann to stay at her place as long as he would need to as well as a small amount of jewels in return for his help, and Johann gladly accepted. She gave Johann a brief description of the way to the field of plants and Johann made his way there without hesitation.
A short while later he arrived at the location and saw it with his own eyes. The plants, which were unlike anything he had ever seen before, seemed to be of a deeply purple colour and the aura around this place felt ... dangerous. It was uncomfortable. Johann drew his rapier and placed the small basket he had gotten to store the samples on the ground. He would make this a quick one. He charged one of his rapiers abilities and send forth a wave of pressurized air while swinging his rapier through the air. He cut through a bunch of the plants, picked them up with pincers he had brought, placed them in the basket and made his way back to the village.
