"But are you absolutely sure it is not permitted for me to ride with you? I solemnly swear not to pose any type of distraction, should it hinder your ability to concentrate," Delta spoke very seriously. The instructor was not having it, though, and he barged right into the private conversation. N-not that it had even concerned him in any way, shape, or form. After sternly telling the naiad that any distractions could pose a serious problem for a new driver, the man told Eve in simple words to get in the car.

The mage had followed those instructions, and lo and behold she was now sitting in the driver's seat, the gear still shifted to Park. Delta stood only a few meters away from her window with a slightly worried expression on her face; for the flat-voiced and even maybe mechanical girl, that was a lot of expression. It probably was justified though, because... Justified by the fact that for eight minutes now that dude has been fiddling with the dang radio buttons! Eve cried out internally. Outside the vehicle, the sprite suddenly spoke in a voice whose sine wave at that moment would show probably 150% of her usual displacement as far as amplitude went. "Perhaps you should go ahead and start, Soup. Your instructor will be along shortly," she informed the girl as though she knew utterly and completely that it was safe to try beginning the test without the supervisor's focus and attention.

"Oh yes, just go ahead, I'll be over here... minding my own business. Wouldn't wanna distract ya while you're driving, ya know..." he mumbled as he frantically changed the channels. Tearing her eyes away from the radio controls, Eve breathed in a deep breath. Right, she could do this. Just ignore that mad man over there and get this test over with. However, right after she had finished pulling out of the parking lot, the man struck up a conversation. "So like, my brother, he's got this kid who doesn't like green vegetables but the problem isn't really that they're green, it's more along the lines of him not wanting to eat anything labeled a vegetable, but what really is a vegetable? I've been wondering that for a really long time, because my niece says tomatoes aren't vegetables but if you've ever seen a salad there's often tomatoes. Then again, who ever said salads couldn't contain fruit? Or whatever tomatoes are. She never said they were fruit, but I assumed it was that way..."

Evelyn gritted her teeth momentarily before reminding herself to just relax. She loosened her jaw and replied lightly, "Your niece sounds like quite the uh... quite the talker." "Oh yes, she's an amazingly smart child but her mouth! Ugh, it goes on and on like a broken record at the speed of light, I swear- WATCH OUT! CAR COMING!"

The female mage nearly slammed her foot down on the breaks before she realized the man wasn't even looking anywhere within a league of the road. Instead, he was now playing games on his iLac. Animal Crossing, to be exact. Resisting the immense temptation to just quit the test right now, Eve focused in on the road and pretended that there were earplugs and wax stuffed into the holes in the sides of her head, keeping every bit of sound out.

Unfortunately, the illusion was shattered when the driving instructor began singing. She did make it back to the lot in one piece though, and received a 100% on her test even though they had never covered parallel parking and turning. At least absentminded supervisors were good for something.
