Re: A Crow in the Crowd
The harbor, the people and the rowdiness that accompanied them over the past few days; Kenna had gotten used to the life in Hargeon. After her job regarding the pesky cinnamon cookie-brought-to-life, also know as the Gingerbread Man, and having captured and secured it safely, Kenna had allowed herself a few days of respite to rest up and figure out what had happened. She’d been pondering in her room for quite a few hours after breakfast about the sudden burst of power she had felt; was this a side-effect of her magic? Truth be told, the youthful mage knew little about her magic, having just started awakening to it, yet that didn’t make her accept that this was just a sudden revelation… she’d never felt like this before. As if a new surge of constant energy had been locked within her every vein, waiting to be released again. She didn’t know how, why or even what… only that her veins seemed to burst, burning with a sudden desire to let her physical energy explode. It had looked like everything around her had been brought into slow motion--- she could see every single thing, every single one of their movements, while she could just walk around them at the regular pace. Then faster and even faster. Before she knew it she found herself several yards away from the place she’d then stood, Gingerbread Man within her clenched hands. Perhaps she’d heard gasps of surprise later on, but she was too far away to actually make sure. It had been a huge surprise for her as well, but Kenna recalled having felt extremely fatigued soon after, thus hadn't really thought of it. ”Whatever, I’ll figure it out later… I better go and check out town.” She said while pushing herself off the bed. The Gingebread Man’s doughly remains had been secured in a safe, just in case; she wasn't planning in eating it, however tasty it may have looked. It had lived a conscious life, and her guts told her that the cookie man’s body held answers to the questions she had. So until she could confirm otherwise, she wasn't going to make the mistake of disregarding said gut-feeling. There were other things to do today, like getting a passport for example; the innkeeper had told her about an official stand making passports right here in Hargeon. And if she wanted to start her new life decently, she could do so by getting a passport for herself. It would always come in handy…
The square before her, where several hundreds of people were awaiting their turn to get their passport, was packed to the brim with people. And that was an exaggeration. The square could hold quite a few hundreds of people, but even this current amount was too much for it, and it showed. Having put herself somewhere on the side and waiting for a while, in the hope that the madness would die down a bit, had proven her wrong. Instead of lessening, the crowd had grown even more, and so the activity of those with a sleight of hand that grasped whatever wallet was within their reach. Kenna had been watching one in particular from her spot at the side, one more swifter than the other pickpockets currently at work within the crowds. Once having sort of pinpointed the swift thief’s path, Kenna mingled with the masses again, purposely putting herself up as an open target as to lure the thief in. Within the coin purse she had deliberately stolen from her sat a small piece of Barbardium; small enough to be mistaken for a coin, but not to its wielder. Kenna knew she’d be able to follow the pieces through sensing their presence, as they were in fact a part of her, connected through physical and magical means. She did wonder however where the trail she’d laid with her tiny trap would lead her...

Re: A Crow in the Crowd
- Gallant Crow, the Thief King's Minion:
The individual she was currently tailing; a lean figure with a grey torn cloth serving as a hooded cloak to cover their visage, moved as fast inside the crowds as he did in an area free of obstacles. Stealthily they progressed; the thief keeping to the shadows even in broad daylight, and Kenna several dozens of feet behind him trying to keep up. At first the crates, shadows and people still around gave her enough means to remain hidden, yet at this point Kenna could no longer go through with it; the streets got longer and the places to hide lessened considerably, until even the streets and alleys were wiped clean of crates and containers. The man stopped in his tracks, and turned around at the exact moment the raven-haired mage turned the corner; she was as perplexed as the man to gaze upon one another, and even more so when Kenna stopped thinking and just halted in her steps, staring back at the man. Several seconds of silence followed during their stare-off, then the thief made a run for it at a pace even faster than he'd been going at previously.
The Etherborn, still baffled, didn't react in time and could only watch as the man dashed off, disappearing several hundreds of meters further after cutting off another corner. Shaking her head Kenna straightened herself and slapped her cheeks, hoping to get her focus back. What was that? Why did she space out like this once seeing the thief's face... illusionary magic? A trap? She knew not what it was, but figured she better took action before she lost track of her Barbardium... at this point her magical sensory didn't reach as far as it used to; she hoped however that would soon change. So with that in mind, Kenna pursued the thief once more, and cursed loudly once she turned the next corner and saw the streets leading to six different directions, as if it was the beginning of an urban maze. She growled, unsure of where the thief had headed off to; the magical presence her Barbardium orb radiated was getting fainter with the minute, so she had to react quickly. The raven-haired maiden thus did whatever other maiden wouldn't do; jumping up into the middle wall, fingers digging deeply within the stone surface as she scaled the brick foundations of one of the buildings, all while cursing loudly and oh so colourfully. She was glad that this neighbourhood was too shady for parents to let their children out to play; otherwise they'd have returned home with quite the expanded vocabulary had they overheard her at that specific moment.
Once on top of the wall Kenna jumped into a sprint, carefully scanning the streets below her in her sight, hoping to pinpoint the thief she was tailing oh-so-subtly at this point. The radiating presence got stronger as she kept on running, and after a few more minutes had finally caught up with the thief, now running exactly beside him; be it several meters higher. She followed him for a bit longer, until a narrow turn was inbound, and leapt into the depths as he was about to make the turn, bashing into the thief's back knees-first. His head banging unto the cobblestone floor as his unseen assailant performed her sneak-attack, the thief let out a frightened scream, and was left grunting in pain as Kenna made a shoulder roll and jumped back unto her feet. She grasped the man's cloak before he could scramble unto his feet and held him pinned against the wall, feet dangling but an inch above the ground as she glared at him with a smug grin. "Too bad you can't get rid of me that easily, huh? Speak up! Who are you working with?"
"W-what are you talking about?" The thief exclaimed, struggling to free himself of Kenna's grip, which turned out to be a failed attempt at best.
"Do I look like I'm stupid?" Kenna growled, shaking the thief until his hood came undone and revealed a youthful face, younger than herself, with chestnut-colored hair and green eyes that anxiously stared back at her. "I'm a solo-artist, I swear!" He cried out, still violently struggling, which only made Kenna tighten her grip on his collar. "More like a con-artist, kiddo! Spill the beans or I'll make sure the only thing you'll be able to eat is bean paste..." The Etherborn hissed almost evilly, punching a hole into the wall beside the kid to add more threat to her words. The thief cringed within her grip and looked at her with scared eyes, yet somehow regained his pride mid-way through and straightened his back. She must admit, despite him trying to look cool, he looked mighty hilarious doing so. "So what if I do? I won't tell you jack shit, lady! Once a crow, always a crow." He said, taking a hold of her wrist to keep himself more upright.
Kenna chuckled at his attempts and put the thief down, yet didn't loosen her grip on him. "At least that's honesty, so I'll commend you for it. Though I simply require one ulterior answer, 'Crow'... no matter how gallant you are, you WILL tell me who your boss is. That is, if you value your life. Who knows, I might even let you go free if you make this easy for me." She said, throwing in the bargain if the man would take it. Crow seemed to ponder about it, hesitating. He wanted to live, and this woman seemed no push-over.... yet betraying his lord wasn't something condemnable either. Yet after a minute of contemplating the youth groaned and gave in. "Fiiiine, but just let me off if I tell you, okay?" The maiden nodded, and loosened her grip a bit. "Certainly, I give you my word as a mage. Now speak up." Crow swallowed a lump, cracking his back and inhaled shortly. "We're a new organisation that recently got stationed in Hargeon; the Crow Branch. Each city has his own branch, but we're all lead by a guy calling himself the Thief King. I don't know the guy, but his power is to be reckoned with, so I won't try fight his decisions... after all, the profit we got is worth the risk. But that's all I know, I swear!" Crow nearly threw his hands up in the air as he said those last words, and Kenna nodded in response. [color=#0066ff]"I see... well then, a promise is a promise, so off you go! But do me a favor and get your guys outta Hargeon before I send the Rune Knights on your asses!"/color] She said as Crow pulled himself loose and made a run for it, no longer willing to stay and have a 'chat'. "AND SAY HELLO TO THIS THIEF KING FOR ME!" Kenna yelled after Crow, who disappeared out of sight. A chuckle escaped her mouth as she turned on the back of her heels and made her way back to more crowded areas with her newfound information. If all what this guy had said was true.... this might become quite the reason to have a more side-tracked journey back to the guild.

Once Kenna had returned to the square she'd first noticed Crow, and realised she hadn't bothered retrieving her purse with jewels from him, the mage reluctantly queued back in line for her passport, noticing that most of the pickpockets she'd seen earlier had disappeared. Figuring Crow had actually listened to her taunting words, she nodded somewhat pleased, realising she might as well take her time waiting for this passport to come along. None to steal the little cash she had left, and figured she'd need to pay the costs accompanying the passport with. So after an hour or so, it was finally her turn to enter the tent she'd passed one too many times in the past few days without actually being their for its actual purpose. A pair of snapshots and a magical stamp later, Kenna exited the pavilion with her new passport, and made sure to tuck it away somewhere safely before returning to the inn at hand. A trip to Crocus would probably allow her to confirm whether these thieves had branches in other cities, and if they had, a scavenger hunt for thieving royalty wouldn't be so far-fetched... And by all means, it would seem rather amusing to face this illusive King's power.
