Minato wandered back and forth across the surface of the water. It was a trick that he had learned a while back, although he forgot who had taught it to him. "Ah this neat little trick never gets old." said the Council man as a grin cracked across his face. It would seem that he was waiting for a young mage known as Heero whom had recently joined the ranks of the Rune Knights and advanced rather quickly towards becoming a stronger mage. It was today that Minato would determine whether the younger Rune Knight had enough 'spiff' or determination as he would call it, to advance to the next level. "I'm tired of waiting!" said Kinana, Minato's giant pet snake as she descended from the sky. Minato simply smiled at Kinana and sat down, meditating for the longest time and waiting for the moment when Heero would how up.

Heero was told too meet up with Master Minato. A member of the vaunted Magic Council, an collective that Heero himself would soon serve as a Rune Knight. As Gemini Key Holder, he'd gained a lot of confidence, and through experience his skill had risen.

He felt he was more than ready too rise to the next rank and beyond, but he relished the opportunity too prove that too a member of the Magic Council itself. Heero turned into a valley that had a long hill running down; it spread into a wide lake.

In the center of the lake; Heero easily made out a blonde man with face length spiked hair. Wearing a long white coat. He was...standing in the center of the water. Heero walked too the very edge of the lake and watched in mild-awe as a gigantic snake seemed to descend from the heavens.

He stood on the shores of the lake and eventually called too Master Minato.

"I've come! I hope I'm on time!" Heero cupped his mouth with his hands, his voice echoing loudly off of the water and open space.

Minato's eyes snapped open. It would seem that the young Rune Knight had arrived. "Sssilence Human!" hissed Kinana. "Its quite alright Kinana. Welcome Heero, I have designed a intricate web of challenges and have chosen one today in which you must undergo it and achieve results with distinction. That is the standard that I expect all Rune Knights to hold." said Minato with a smile that seemed to have bedazzled Heero. He was known for having the best smile and photogenic qualities throughout Earthland. Walking across the water towards Heero, Minato extended his hand and gestured for Heero to come closer. Maintaining his smile, he felt utterly sorry for the boy, but Minato knew that it had to be done. "Hehe... thisssss will be funsiessss..." hissed Kinana with a sadistic delight.

Heero watched as Minato approached. He seemed to radiate power, as any member of the Magic Council should. But being this close too him; one could really tell he was not too be trifled with. Nor was his flying serpent apparently. The gigantic lizard had shushed Heero the moment he'd called out too Minato, too which Heero nearly shrank down too the size of an ant.

As Minato finally reached him, Heero saw the water rippling beneath his steps as he stopped just short of the land and extended a hand too the Gemini Key holder. He waved Heero towards him once, with a bright look on his face.

Heero shook his head; it wasn't every day you stood across from a Magic Council Member, so whether he slid down into the water or not. He was stepping out. He took one step towards Minato.

As soon as Heero's hand had come into contact with his, Minato sapped Heero's energy with a blast of Wave Magic. Although no physical harm was done, Heero was now unable to use magic. Quickly receding back towards the center of the lake and watching Heero stumble back and forth as if to keep his balance, Minato could not help but smile once again. "Your task Heero, is to use any part of your body and hit me. You may not swim nor fly. Once you have made physical contact with me, you shall be ready to be recognized as a stronger mage." said Minato. He just hoped that the youngling Heero would not try too hard and over exert past his physical limits, Minato would of hated to drag Heero to the hospital.

As soon as Heero touched Minato's hand he saw a whirling gust of an unknown type of magic swirl about him briefly. He felt his connection too magic drop away from him. He stepped onto the lake, mysteriously he didn't fall through.

It took a few steps too get oriented too the weight difference. But eventually, Heero stood too his full height slowly and in full control of his balance once more. He listened; carefully and calmly without making a sound.

When Minato had finished; Heero looked on as Minato moved with impressive speed backward away from Heero in what seemed like an instant. Heero gave him a moment, wordlessly and with eye contact could tell when Master Minato was prepared too begin.

Heero ran forward, and began with a long hop that looked like it belonged in a long jumpers competition as he stretched his legs forward, landing and springing forward again with another long jump; this time barely touching the water with his toe as he got more oriented too the feeling of it under him.

He kicked off leaving a droplet behind him from his speed, and approached Minato mid-air. He landed without attempting too touch him close by, merely walking around him with a smirk and reached out in an attempt too pat him on the shoulder randomly as he strafed around him.

He then began running sideways, attempting too move with Minato best he could. At any moment that Minato would make another move; Heero would instantly perform another long jump toward him on the water and attempt too pat him on the shoulder once more.

Minato laughed at Heero's attempt to pat him on the shoulder. He easily sidestepped the first attempt, and looked at Heero as he lunged with his second attempt. Concentrating his magic, Minato sent out a pulse of Wave Magic that negated the magical properties of the water that Heero was standing upon. It would seem that Minato would be able to move freely whilst Heero dealth with the oncoming challenge. Running further and further towards the edge of the lake, Minato looked back at Heero to see what he was doing.

Heero best attempts too reach out and heftily pat the Magic Council member on the shoulder seemed in vain. After his first few attempts, Heero continued too strafe, walking sideways with his hands at his side; eyes locked with Minato's too let him know he meant business.

Suddenly, as if on a breath; a gust of Wave Magic whirled around Heero and the water he was standing on. What happened next, Heero didn't expect. He sank quickly into the waters below. Flailing for a moment, before holding his breath steadily. He treaded water underneath for awhile, before formulating a plan. It seems he'd be facing an opponent with magic, whilst he couldn't use any of his own Summoning or Celestial Magics too aid him. For a moment he thought about the shock Minato would experience if Gemi or Mini came springing from the water and got a touch in and he was hit with his own Wave Magic, only too sink down to Heero's level and be touched underwater.

However this was not an option. He dolphin kicked too get some momentum, and then pedaled upwards getting a glimpse of Minato moving above the water towards the edge of the lake.

The ripples of his feet moving quickly towards the shore looked interesting underwater. Heero however, was fast approaching him from below. As Minato looked behind himself, he wouldn't even see Heero (unless of course he looked down underwater and focused for a moment), as the young Rune Knight would burst from underwater in a vivid splash just as Minato looked back too check on him.

Heero would reach up and attempt too grab Minato's coat once, pulling himself back up onto the water as he realized that he needed to channel what little magical energies he had left due too the Wave Magic into his feet to stand.

"I'm not allowed to swim right?" Heero referenced the fact that he hadn't been allowed too swim, yet was forced underwater due to the Magic Council Members tricky magic. "I hope I didn't break the rules there..." Heero grinned a little, dripping wet. He hadn't taken a dive underwater in an attempt too swim up too Minato, he merely came back too the surface and attempted to kill two birds; with one stone. If he'd missed, he would begin circling Minato before attempting too dive forward at him. He'd pull his hands back at the last minute, allowing Minato too get out of the way of the grab that never came before leaping too the side too follow and reaching out once more too pat him on the arm.

Minato smiled at the youth's attempt to make physical contact with him. He had noticed that the youth broke the rules indeed and was moving underwater which could be considered swimming, but he didn't care. He easily could moved away in low-density air, but he stayed and allowed Heero's hands to wrap around his shoulder. Heero had tried his hardest and Minato had decided to reward him for it. "Oh haha, you beat me Heero! You did very good. I think you can hereby announce yourself as a C-Rank mage." said Minato with a laugh. Without saying anything further, Minato mounted Kinana and flew away towards yonder.

Heero sprang from the water and---success! He gripped Minato's jacket! But wait...as Heero took in Minato's body language and the expression on his face, he realized that...he'd stopped trying before Heero even got to him.

"-___-", however Minato's next words caused Heero to get a face as if he'd just discovered 1 million jewels underneath his bed. "!!!" his expression humbled and he looked grateful. He'd just gotten a lesson in determination. Too be sure; and he'd learned it. As he watched Minato mount his gigantic serpent; Heero put one hand in his pocket, and waved with the other as he watched the incredible sight that was Minato leaving on Kinana snake and swirl away through the clouds on the horizon.

A small satisfied smile grew on Heero's face, as he realized...Minato's enchantment on the waters of the lake was probably fading as he got further away.

Splash!

Heero took a dip into the lake as he slid directly down through it. Success.
