Elementary Magic [Complete] Empty Elementary Magic [Complete]

Post by Imminent Sandwich 17th February 2013, 6:06 pm

    Elementary, my dear Watson.

    Primary Magic: Elementary magic
Secondary Magic: (Must be filled in later. Magic you bought at the store goes here)
    Caster or Holder: Caster
Description: Elementary magic is a technique that allows for the user to broaden their mind, to see in ways that others do not. Not that anyone cannot – in fact, there are recorded instances of mages not gifted in this art having broadened their mind to be able to see things the way Elementary magic users do, without use of magic. Simply speaking, it’s an analytical tool – used to analyse the situation at hand, figure out a solution, raise more questions, and answer those ones in due course. A hugely popular choice with strategists, detectives and tacticians alike, this magic requires an above-average mind, and a clear one at that.
    Strengths:
    • Massively increased deduction powers: The user can see how things are linked far more easily, linking weaknesses to people and creatures, effects to attacks, the works. The user can see things at their most basic level, potentially figuring out key points.
    • Massively improved memory: If an ant is stepped on, and they see it, they remember it. If someone winks, and they see it, they remember it. The magic turns the user, when in use, into a human database, allowing them to remember things most would forget immediately.
    • Increased resistance to mind control/telepathic attacks: Resistance to magic akin to psychic abilities is increased – to the point where weak attacks can virtually be shrugged off. Telekinesis, mind control, telepathy, etcetera.
    • Weak psychic abilities: Due to the brain being opened up greatly, weak psychic abilities are unlocked. Mind reading is limited to the instinctive reactions of small animals and individual insects, and telekinesis only works on light objects.

    Weaknesses:
    • Concentration: Using spells with this magic requires complete and total concentration, rendering the user unable to attack, block, or even move while a spell is being used. And, clever as someone may be, outsmarting a fist in the face may not be as easy as blurting out scientific terminology.
    • Pass me the mind soap: There are some things you really don’t need to know about a person, that the magic will lead you to know anyway. Remember that drunken night in that hotel once? Yeah, that wasn’t a woman. Like you were sober enough to care. You are now, though.
    • Frequent headaches: The human brain uses a miniscule fraction of its potential, and opening up so much so quickly leaves the user with a splitting headache if used for too long without a break.

Abilities/Powers: The user suddenly becomes able to critique art and literature far more thoroughly.

    Name: Mind Palace
    Rank: D
    Type: Support
    Description:
One of Peter’s previous companions, talking to a client:
    “Mind Palace? What’s that?”
“It’s a memory technique, a spell. Lets him link together memories. It’s like taking a path through a street, a house…”
“He said his was a palace.”
    “Well, he would, wouldn’t he?”

The user closes their eyes, takes a deep breath, and focusses. They become deaf to the world, and cannot feel light touches. However, they can still see themselves, and their body parts. From outside of their vision, the user can pull different bits of information that has been stored in their mind, with easy-to-remember information being easy to reach. Harder to remember information can be pulled in, but it requires a great deal of mental discipline and stamina. However, by linking memories, the user can reach them, without as much stamina usage. Anything that has ever been stored on the user’s brain is recorded – with the mind palace, it’s a matter of knowing what to link, and to where.
The information’s appearance varies. It can be a picture, a body of text, just a word or phrase, sometimes even an abstract concept that cannot be given a visible form, but is sensed nonetheless. The user simply puts their hand or finger to it, and moves it about in front of them. To the outside world, it just looks like they’re moving their hands about a bit.
    Strengths:
    • Fantastic memory: Allows the user to recall events that anybody else may have forgotten about long ago, or events that didn’t seem important enough to remember.
    • Deduction: Can allow for links to a subject at hand to be made.

    Weaknesses:
    • Completely oblivious: The user becomes completely oblivious to the outside world, unless something shocks them out, or unless they pull out. They can’t see, hear, smell, anything – they’re in their own mind, until they’re stopped.
    • Immobility: The user cannot move themselves from the spot they used the spell on, while in use.
    • Only temporary: Memories from the spell only last about an hour. Conclusions are kept like normal memories, but the rest fall back into obscurity.
Duration: Five posts maximum - afterwards, the user gets a splitting headache, and is forced to stop.

Cooldown: Relative. If used for three or less posts, three posts. For four, four posts are required. Five posts, he needs six - five for normal recovery, one more to get rid of the throbbing pain in his head.[/list]

    Name: Analytics
    Rank: D
    Type: Support
Description: By picking up an object, then focussing on it – and it alone – every inch that the user can see is stored on a database in the user’s mind, allowing for access to it whenever it is needed. The technique is executed in a similar manner to Mind Palace -
    Strengths:
    • Base-level deconstruction: Every known inch of the object is able to be analysed in great detail, allowing for many different diagrams to be drawn up inside the user’s head. Cross-sections, blueprints, close-ups, as long as he has had enough time to study the object – what he can see of it – a detailed diagram can be drawn up.

    • Impaired vision: The user’s vision goes blurry after using it, though the user can recover.

Duration: Five posts maximum. Anything higher, and the user's eyes hurt so much, that they are shocked clean out of it.
Cooldown: Equivalent to how long the spell was used for.

    Name: Data Conduit
    Rank: D
    Type: Support
Description: After focussing and losing one’s eyes, the user opens their eyes, now glowing completely white. While this power is activated, information can be processed at a breakneck speed, as long as the information is set out before them. It’s like speed-reading on steroids.
    Strengths:
    • Data handling: The user can process information at a speed incomprehensible to a normal human, tearing through 300-page long books in under a minute, listening to speech sped up beyond recognition and recognising it, looking at a code and translating it quickly. Well, the last one requires him needing to actually know the code beforehand, but it’s quicker.

    • Selective memory: Only certain things from the information given can be allowed to remain, otherwise the speed and volume would cause the user to – literally – have their mind blown. Only key points can be memorised, and these must be identified by the user. Not even Mind Palace can retrieve information erased from the mind this way.

Duration: 3 posts maximum. Otherwise, the user's brain will - quite literally - melt, due to an excess of information being processed.
    Cooldown: 3 posts.

    Name: Spellcheck
    Rank: D
    Type: Support
Description: By focussing on one opponent, and by blanking out any other sentient presences around them, the user can store information on any attacks that hit them. The user calms themselves, and focusses their vision on one opponent, waiting for them to attack. The attack must be taken for the spell to work, though the degree of damage is irrelevant. Afterwards, information on the attack is sorted in the user’s mind, to be accessed whenever it is needed.
    Strengths:
    • Analysis: The attack is analysed, revealing rudimentary strengths, weaknesses, special features, things that would be common knowledge to the user of the attack – but not the receiver.

    Weaknesses:
    • Hit me: The spell requires the user to be hit by the attack being analysed, multiple times, each attack within a minute of each other. With no other spells in between hitting them.
    • Basic: Finer points of the attack are not documented. For example, if it was a fireball, then the attack would be identified as a fireball. It would not document if the fireball explodes, splits, or anything else, unless the user is hit by such a feature of the attack.

Duration:3 posts maximum, can be cut short by the user taking too much damage.
    Cooldown: 3 posts.

All you need to do is convert the strengths/weaknesses into bullet point form.

    Then I'll approve it!

Bah, who needs brawn when you can pick apart your opponent like a Lego house? I'll have to give him a weapon, though, just to be sure.
