After their last few encounters and jobs together, Rei and ney had settled down in a small home in lavenitir port city, they'd been in it for a few months. And after Ney being turned into a Neko by the permanent amount of yokai energy stuck in his body... things began to settle into routine. for a few weeks, everything had been on the lowdown. She was enjoying being able to clean and earn money by doing small things around the city. She'd sometimes get paid for doing small jobs like cleaning or babysitting around town, even going to the children's hostpital and using her spells to make the kids feel better for a little bit of time. She didn't always work, Ney did most of that, either that or he was usually out training... or, something. She wasn't really sure what he did when they separated for the day, she didn't care much though. This particular mourning, she opened her eyes and saw it was still very dark outside. Ney was beside her, kneading the pillow under his head with his hands and purring in his sleep. She couldn't help but smile, and ruffle the hair between his soft fuzzy ears and kiss his forehead before she got up out of bed quietly.
The alarms said it was approximately 4:30 that mourning, the sun didn't rise until about six... so that gave her some time to get ready for the day. In the back of her mind, her body was telling her to go back to sleep. but.. there's no way she could break routine, she had all this time, she had to do something meaningful with it.
She turned on the lights in the living room and went to the bathroom to wash her face with cold water to get herself to wake up, she usually only got about four or five hours of sleep... but the past few days she felt as if she had been pushing herself to do the things she normally would. She looked herself in the mirror, her skin seemed paler than usual, the bags under her eyes were rather dark. Her eyes seemed blank... what did that mean? maybe she should...
no! she couldn't let this time escape her, there was way too much to do!
She quickly changed into a comfortable outfit for training, there were some pretty tall mountains nearby, if she could run over there, she might reach the top of the hills before the sun came up.
And so Rei hiked up 15 miles up a mountain to where she had a dummy she had made out of sticks for her to practice her melee moves on. The navy color and stars were beginning to fade from the sky... she was out of breath from the steep hike, and drank some water from a small waterfall before turning to see the sun coming over the horizon. She took a moment to sit criss cross, and watched as the sunshine melted away the cold air across the valley. The hills sang with the songs of birds as people began to move about in the city that was off to the right of her. She trained at the top until noon, and was able to get back down the mountain by 2:00.
She had a small lacrima she kept with her to keep track of time. "good, still sticking with the schedule..." she said to herself. She kept a list in her mind of the other things she still wanted to get done today. Her legs felt weak and shaky from all she had put them through, but she continued to force them to move forwards.
She had walked back to the city by 2:30, and went to the hospital to help out with the nurses until 7:30. She thought it would be a good chance to get to tolerate children, since she had little patience for their chaos. But after a few weeks here, she had to admit, all the little rascals were starting to rub off on her.
Exiting the hospital, Rei took in a deep breath... she had developed a pretty bad headache, she knew her hair was messier than usual, and she couldn't help but feel the excessive need to shut her eyes... She stretched and yawned. "okay, so... now I need to..." she thought for a moment, her head aching trying to think. "oh yeah, groceries..."
She trudged along the sidewalk to the nearest store, and pulled a small piece of paper out of her pocket. she grabbed a small cart, and walked into the store leaning on the cart for support. "so... uhmm.. eggs, milk, sushi, were out of wasabi... uhm, some bread..." she continued reading the list until she got to the last item, which made the corners of her mouth turn up into a small, tired smile. "and of course, Ney's favorite cat treats" She yawned once again, and purchased all the items on her list.
Rei carried the heavy groceries the few miles back to their home, she had gotten a few offers from pedestrians if they could help her carry them. But naturally she denied, carrying these the long way home could only make her stronger, after all.
Rei finally made it up the front steps by 9:00, she pulled out the spare key she had in her pants, carrying a bag in her mouth in order to let her hand be free to unlock the door. She let herself in, the sun had already set almost an hour ago.
She sighed quietly to herself, she'd go to bed right after she put the groceries away... the living room was also a mess, so was the bathroom and the kitchen, just after a little cleaning, maybe.
She set the Groceries on the counter, feeling her shoulders ache from having to wear them for the three or so miles it took to get here. No matter, that only meant her muscles would get stronger, she'd get stronger. That's all that really mattered.
She sniffled, almost like she felt sick to her stomach. But then she quickly realized out of all the things she had done today, she had forgotten to eat something...
And so Rei grabbed an apple and slowly munched on it as she began taking the groceries out of the bags, feeling like her arms were refusing to obey her. She heard footsteps nearby, and saw Ney peek his head out from the hallway by the living room. "oh, hey...Ney. I uhm, got you some more of those treats, you really like." She forced a smile onto her face, holding up the bag to hand to him as he walked over to her.
