Artorias is one of the more calm type of a person. Although he is seen from time to time humorous, he was never really talkative. He just wants his job done and then get over it. That is just his way of doing things. When something gets annoying, he does not hold himself back to point that out, and if its needed, even use force. He takes no enjoyement in ruthless killing, nor does he support any unjustified act.
Artorias does not believe, that real justice exists in this world. That´s why he has created his own justice. For every innocent death, a sinful soul must die. He calls does, who died by his swords, „sinners“. He is convinced, that he is the real justicebringer in this world and he is not afraid to show his believe other people. He thinks mercy is for weaklings, who still believe in fairy tails.
He has also the bad habit to fall asleep from long and boring speeches. Artorias is not easy to impress, which means his respect is not easy to gain. He looks down on those who use their power to dominate the weak, since only does who need constantly bully the weak must be weak themself. If he must describe himself, he would say he is an asshole, but within him rests a kind soul, which needs time to come out. He is also very antisocial, more likely taking the path of the lonely wolf than to join together with other people. Although this raises criticism within his own folk, he does not care about their opinon very much.
On the battlefield, Artorias is a completely different person. He takes enjoyement in challenges, especially when they are without magic – Steel versus Steel. After striking down too many of his enemies, he falls in a state called „Bloodlust“. There he can´t control himself and feels the need in killing more and more. You could say he goes berserk. Only a bottle of whiskey can help him to regain his control again.
Although it can be seen as great weakness, as Artorias is far more reckless in this state, it also increases his speed and strength overall, so it has a good thing too. But he prefers to avoid it, that´s why he always has a bottle of whiskey with him.
Although he tends to throw himself immediatly into the chaos, he still has his sense of chivalry. He sees the protection of the weak as uttermost the most important thing to do. He also dislikes orders from above, meaning he sometimes even ignores them if he dislikes his leader.
As leader himself, he gives a very confident look, increasing the moral of his allies. He is not the tactical mastermind, but he does not want to risk the safety of his own people. In contrast, he does not care about the lifes of his enemies. Casualties are only important if they happened on their side. He does not see it necessary to let his victim alive, thinking that the victim wouldn´t do it any different in his position.
