• description •
Vanished! Gone! They all disappeared in the blink of an eye! Nobody knows where they went... do you? Probably not. They did not just die, after all, but no trace of their physical bodies or magic can be felt and tracked down... it was as if something stole them away... spirited them away right as they were going about their casual business. This has happened in so many cities and towns and villages... when will it stop? Just what, or who, is causing this to happen?
You have either been asked to investigate, or are going about your daily, or nightly, business, when suddenly, woosh~!
Your feet, or paws, or whatever you use to walk, are no longer where you once stood. Around you is an entirely new atmosphere- a place filled with mystery and the unknown. There are things here that defy physics, logic, and your very existence. A spiritual plain? Perhaps, or maybe another world entirely?
You are not alone, however. You may have come with others or not, but there are others here. They are Yōkai- strange and mysterious beings that seem to be supernatural monsters, spirits, demons, animals, and people... but... who, or what are they really? Perhaps you know of them, or a similar term to refer to them? Mononoke, Mamono, Ayakashi, Obake... the words drag on, but in the end, they all have the same essence, no matter what type of Yōkai they are. It seems they have been capturing humans from Earthland, but why? What do they want? How will you find and save the people of your homeland who have been Spirited Away?
`` arbitrator-- "let's settle this peacefully"
Upon all your encounters with various Yōkai, you choose to negotiate or get by without killing. Try to find out what is going on with and why the Yōkai are spiriting away humans, and try to settle a deal to get them back. If the deal sounds fair to the higher-ranked Yōkai, congrats! The people of Earthland are set free!
`` sentinel-- "i must fulfill my goal at all costs"
You know people are in trouble, or perhaps you just want to save yourself. Either way, you feel threatened by the Yōkai and do not mind taking the lives of a few to get your job done! By the time you reach the last one, any negotiation will be in vain, and by the end of the encounter with them, they will magically whisk you home- you will be right where you were before you were Spirited Away, and the humans remain prisoner.
`` scourge-- "i don't give a f--"
You are either frightened or upset about being Spirited Away, or maybe just lust for some blood on your hands or weapon. Either way, you go out of your way to kill ALL of the enemies rolled! If you kill the last encounter, you will magically be whisked back home, and be right where you were before all of this madness. The humans will be killed by the angry Yōkai, and you can hear their screams back in Nazo even from where you are in Earthland.
• enemies •
After you roll an enemy, you may pick any of the following Yōkai types for them to be. The stats remain the same across all difficulties of enemies. You may negotiate to PACIFY or fight to KILL enemies. As you can see, there is a lot of room for story and creativity, so do some research and go nuts!
Weak;; 2x Enemies. They each have 250HP, and deal B rank damage per hit.
Normal;; 3x Enemies. They each have 350HP, and deal A rank damage per hit.
Strong;; 4x Enemies. They each have 400HP, and deal A rank damage per hit.
Boss;; A Noble of the Yōkai society, whatever or whoever he or she is. They deal S rank damage, and have 1000HP.- Types of Yókai:
- *As a note, ALL Yōkai are able to shapeshift into whatever they want, be it a monster, animal, human, or object. They will try to trick you. Note that NOBODY is safe from the illusions of these beings, even with abilities and spells that negate illusions and perception manipulation.
Bakeneko;; Cats, basically. However, these cats often stand on their hind legs, and have wicked claws. Some may be in kemonomimi form, but are still deadly, despite being cuter. They are EXTREMELY fast, moving at at least S rank speeds. They are able to place hexes, so be careful! Being very independent, they are harder to negotiate with, often wanting you to do a task of any sort(usually to serve them) before allowing you to pass.
Inugami;; Dogs, but anthropomorphic and closer to werewolves than anything. They use black magic, and are very loyal to one another- coordinating attacks with each other. These canines do not appear unless in groups of 3 or more. They are fairly easy to negotiate with... especially if you have a bone or stick.
Itachi;; Weasels, essentially, and skillful and crafty ones at that! They will consistently use transformations and can shapeshift at astonishing rates. They move at S rank speeds at least, and can use fire and wind magic. They tend to be very acrobatic and will work together to confuse you. They are hard to negotiate with, often wanting something in return, and will make settling a bargain hard for you.
Kitsune;; The most famous of Yōkai types, in a way. They are foxes, essentially, either in kemonomimi form or a ghostly, divine natural fox form. These beings are able to use Foxfire, which cannot be absorbed by any type of slayer. Not to mention that these canines are extremely fast, clever, quick, and will attempt to trick you using illusions or transformations. Some may look into your past and reflect the appearances of past people, and try to manipulate or torment you mentally. A kitsune can be spawned alone instead of with others, but you must multiply the stats of the difficulty you rolled by the number of Yōkai meant to show up. They are fairly difficult to negotiate with, but if intuitive or strong enough, they may back off and respect you.
Hebi;; Snakes are slippery and deceitful, and great at casting illusions to make you comfortable before attempting to strangle and devour you whole! They can range from small size to giants, and almost all will have venom. White ones deal S rank damage regardless of what difficulty you roll. They are easy to negotiate with typically, but may want something in return.
Oni;; Oni are akin to demons and ogres, usually with horns, fangs, and hideous strength. They are rock-solid, and carry giant weapons, such as kanabos or swords, with them. Oni are generally fairly huge, and difficult to negotiate with. They are a bit slow-witted though, so you could always use your wit to your advantage.
Tanuki;; Just like the kitsune, the Japanese Raccoon Dogs are masters of transformation, and likely are even the best shapeshifters around. They can cast strong illusions and have a kemonomimi human form just like their fox cousins. They will try to mentally and emotionally trick you by looking into your past and pulling elements from it, but Tanukis are generally not as malevolent as other Yōkai. Still, do not underestimate their melee power, strength, and capabilities. They merely want to have a good, fun, time, and often that comes in the form of delighting in pranking and taunting humans. They are fairly easy to negotiate with, if you can play along.
Tengu;; Tengu are crow goblins or demons of a sort, usually humanoid in appearance, yet with giant black-feathered wings protruding from their backs, allowing them to fly. They wear a mask at all times, and are extremely dangerous, having the next difficulty-roll's stats. They are reasonable in negotiation, but you may have to prove your strength first.
Tsuchigumo;; Anyone afraid of spiders? The Tsuchigumo are medium-size to giant spiders that can transform at will, and ensnare you not only in strong webs that take 2 A rank hits to destroy a thread, but in terrifying illusions as well! They are easy to negotiate with, but will want and require something in return, that usually has to do with blood.
You are welcome to research and include other Yōkai, and may tweak the above as needed! This is YOUR story, after all!
Arbitrator-- 25k Jewels and a Legendary+ Item given to you by the Yōkai. This item is a custom Tsukumogami (Yōkai Object) to be designed by you! (Try to do some research and follow reasonable Yōkai/Japanese mythology lore, please! The Item should at least be Japanese in shape). Plus, recognition from the Magic Council for your diplomacy.
Sentinel-- 100k Jewels, and the ability to attempt the job ONCE more, despite it being One-Time Only. Cannot be taken a third time, even if this route is taken.
Scourge-- 25k Jewels and a Legendary piece of custom Eastern-style armor OR a Strong+ Yokai weapon! Another reward is the memory of those horrid screams you heard from afar as the Yōkai slaughtered those humans thanks to you...
[All participants get access to the 2nd Part of the job. Also note, Arbitrator Path cannot be completed unless NO Yokai are killed by ANY person.]

Izayuki
Their movements sent them to a more open area with little to no shrubbery to cover their field of vision. Each standing on the soft, green grass - or so he thought that the strange surface was made of -, the shaman breathed in. “… Wait, where are we?” he suddenly asked out by the look of the surroundings; the usual, large tree that marked the outskirts of his guild was nowhere to be seen. Plus, he didn’t stand on grass, but something ocean blue. Was it the ocean? His view travelled across the place, while Kyuken took a look himself. “Huh…” the samurai ghost let out in a strange feeling of ease and light, “This place… I feel weird.” This was getting worried for the shaman, who had no idea of where he and Kyuken were. On top of that, their dragon spirit wasn’t accompanying them at that moment… this was strange.
