    Loaner Spells Empty Loaner Spells

Post by Shen Hakuhei 16th February 2016, 6:37 am

In the series, we've seen mages use spells that were given to them that are outside of their primary form of magic. Lucy during the Oracion Seis arc, and recently in the manga we saw Laxus use a Jutsu Shiki Spell.

My idea is to create "Loaner Spells" spells that can be given to other mages IC for 1 time use in another thread. There are a ton of practical applications to go out and find a specific sort of magic to use in a specific job, and will create a motive to interact with others who possess unique and useful magic and also create a useful plot device. "I seek out so and so, to acquire X spell, to carry with me until I reach the boss in Y job, so that I can use X spell to weaken it!"

The goal is not to make jobs easier or to provide any sort of huge advantage to anyone. It's primarily a plot device that could be fun.

There may be certain restrictions on Loaner spells... Not all spells can or should be loaned. Provided that they're not user specific or require Slayer magic to use. Only 1 Loaned spell can be carried at a time, and they're only good for 1 use.

Not a bad idea. But this might be better used as a first part job sort of thing. A quest to obtain a borrowed spell could be interesting.

Preparation for jobs should be done outside of the job. Questing to find someone IC, with the magic you need promotes interaction and may help to broaden the RP, get people out of their Cliques, and promote the making of more unique magics.

It's a plot device meant to bring more members together.

Side Note: Ranks... Spell Ranks can be lowered based on the usefulness & Rank of the members taking on the spells. An S-Rank mage gives a B-Rank mage an S-Rank spell... The spell could be reduced in rank to suit the member.

These will also be useful in PVP. Loaner spells can only be used ONE TIME, and members can only possess ONE Loaner spell at a time. To prepare for future confrontations, a member can seek out a magic that could be useful against a specific person and hope that the one spell is enough. This cannot be abused, because there can be, only one. One spell, no matter what weakness your opponent may have, is not going to be the End All of a PVP match, but can be extremely useful in the right situation which as said before, makes for an excellent plot device.

I like the idea, especially if you take in consideration the mentor/mentee relationships. I mean wouldn't be be logical for some mentors to lend a spell to a protege of them.

Or just for some awesome story sake, passing your spell to a friend still left standing. To deal with the enemy on a job.

It also would be nice if this could be incorporated without the use of another registration thread or something alike. So maybe something similar as a perk for B rank mages and up? To have the skill to transfer a spell temporarily provided they are in the same thread?

If this were done, I feel like a small training thread should be required or an extra long post or something. Or at least there should be some stipulations on what kind of spells can be shared, ya know?

There should be limitations on what can be shared... Not strong limitations though, such as sharing Dragon Slayer magic, basic elemental spells sure, but not a Roar or anything user specific, or H-rank/Guild spells.

As far as training goes... Training implies you're learning the spell, but you're not. Where this spell will be a 1 time use only, all you would need to do is receive it IC, which would require interaction, nothing too major. Like during the arc with Oracion Seis, Lucy was given memory of a spell that would vanish from her mind as soon as she used it.

Lucy was given that spell specifically because of the nature of Archive magic though, to be fair. So the lack of limitations on that part was due to that fact.

I think for story stuff it would be quite a fun thing, but not fond of the idea for it in proper dueling pvp as it sounds easily abused in that situation and would become complicated because of it. For a story type fight though (where you and your opponent have a general idea/agreed upon outcome) it could definitely add extra cool points and be nifty for something like a key moment in a job/event and then the system wouldn't need to be overly complicated for it.
