Post by Ardere Kasai 18th November 2015, 9:50 pm

Wind gushing through the fire mage's brown locks, a heavy breath would escape his pale smooth lips. Ardere Kasai was standing on the deck of a rather large ship, on it's way to Snowfall Island. White and gold, with a gargantuan engine and quite the number of passengers, his ship sailed through the high seas. Today he found himself on a mission to save the island he was headed towards. A while back, a Sorcerer had frozen the entire island for many years. While it had been one of the most well known resort island, the frozen wasteland turned off many inhabitants both foreign and local. Fortunately a group of mages defeated the Sorcerer, and the island began to thaw. A rather large settlement was built on the coast, and after several months even began to take in guests. The citizens thought they were safe, but monsters rose from the remaining ice. For some reason, the island would not finish thawing. The guild master found himself as one of the most renowned fire mages in Ishval, called upon to fight these ice beasts. It was likely some of the magic left over from the Sorcerer's control had corrupted the island. Luckily ice was weak to fire, and he would likely eliminate many of these enemies. However the beasts lurking on the island were said to be no push overs, a second fire mage had been hired to accompany him on this mission. He knew nothing of this person, other than the fact that he or she called Eclipse Soul home. Considering his past dealings with that guild, he had no doubt this would go smoothly.

Running pale leather covered fingers through his thick brown locks, Ardere took in the fresh air. Flipping back his large flowing cloak, red leather and wooden Samurai armor would be revealed. His bastard sword Clarent on his back, he was ready for whatever was waiting for him on that island. The ship not only carried him and another mage, but a dozen passengers to come settle on Snowfall Island. The only way to ensure their safety would be to keep his slayer senses keen, and his flames as the ready. Pacing along the railings, he found himself at the front of the ship. Staring off towards the island, but a small speck in the distance. So that's it eh? Don't worry Snowfall, I'll be there soon. Cracking his knuckles, the guild master filled with determination slid a leather covered hand to his side. Hmm. Just what had caused this island so much pain and suffering? He had not been very fond of ice, not since he was a child. One of his few true dislikes, the cold did not agree well with his fire body. Fortunately his fire body also worked in his advantage, as it was unlikely he would freeze. Shifting his stance, the voices of joyful passengers echoed through his ears. He had identified the scent of each passenger, but a new one ha finally become known. He could not help but get the feeling of deja vu, or perhaps he had encountered a similar scent such as this. Whoever it was, it was quite certainly a mage. All would reveal itself in good time, but for now he chose to relax and look off towards their destination.

Heat cannot be separated from fire, or beauty from The finite.

    Don't explode, Don't explode, Don't explode!

Continuously rang through her head as she sat curled up in a small ball in an equally small cabin on the ship. There was no way that Venir could possibly get back to land at this point. The ship was already too far out at sea, and she didn't exactly have the best flight skills. Sure she could launch herself off of the ship but she wasn't experienced enough to continuously launch herself back to shore. That would mean risking a fall into cold water, which was one of the many reasons as to why the female mage was so uncomfortable upon the ship. She was surrounded by nothing but water with only a thin layer of flammable wood protecting her from its cold clutch. Venir was quite literally a match ready to strike on a ship made completely of wood. A match that had a nasty habit of spontaneous combustion if she wasn't focusing... One might wonder as to why such a dangerous person was placed in such a dangerous (for her) environment. It was through a series of coincidences and misconceptions, at least to her, that she had ended up on the god forsaken ship.

    ~*~

    "A fire!"

Her nose sniffed the air cautiously, smoke filling her senses. There was a fire somewhere in the city! Naturally the female mage followed her nose until it took her to a burning residential building, where a crowd had gathered. Water was tossed upon the flames but to no avail, and they were still waiting for some water mages to arrive. Just looking at the flickering, golden heat had Venir's stomach rumble. She wasn't a water mage but she might be able to do something about the fire... Quietly the blonde slipped her way through the crowd until she broke free into the front of it. Someone had shouted at her stop, that she was getting to close to the flames, but Venir did not falter. Another cautious sniff of the flames, Venir determined that they were edible. It was a bit awkward eating flames with a crowd about her, Venir herself still not entirely sure of her ability to eat fire. Taking a deep breath, her mouth opened wide, and the flames were slowly but steadily sucked in until nothing remained but the slightly charred home.

    "That hit the spot~!"

She huffed, a hand already rubbing her belly. Amethyst eyes slowly opened to see the crowd looking at her in what seemed to be awe. Color rose to the newfound slayers cheeks and she was quick to make her escape or at least attempt to. A man had shouted at her to stop, and always one to follow orders Venir did. The man had a certain gleam in his eyes, an excited grin set upon his features as he asked her one simple question. One that Venir gave an answer to,

"Yeah I am.... More specifically a Flame Goddess Slayer or at least that's what I've been told."

She rubbed at the back of her blonde mane awkwardly, that same shade of rose tinted her cheeks. The man had followed up with a request of sorts, one that she readily agreed to. Being quick to help others was part of who Venir was, or at least continued to try to be. He needed the help of a fire mage, a strong one, and last Venir checked she was a fire mage and a rather strong one at that. It wasn't until he took her to a port with a great wooden ship docked that she had tried to get out of helping him, for his own safety of course. Yet the man would not have her backing out of her deal now. A hand had yanked on her orange scarf when she tried to leave, and he quite literally dragged the woman onto the ship.

    ~*~

"I'm going to be sick. I need air."

Venir had never been one to enjoy traveling by boat, she herself having a nasty case of sea-sickness if the boat rocked too much. This was by no means some ailment because of her magic, she was not a dragon slayer, and she could handle other modes of transportation just fine provided that it did not float on water. Stumbling almost drunkenly the blonde had managed to force herself out onto the open deck of the ship. Immediately, she flung herself to the side, her torso hanging over the edge of the ships railing, her amethyst orbs locked onto the dark water below. At the least she had managed to keep the contents of her stomach down but she still felt a little nauseous. Cool almost cold wind felt pleasant against her overly heated skin, pushing back her fear of any spontaneous combustion for the moment. Though the wind cooled her, it did not save the railing from blackening under her touch as she unintentionally scorched the wood. A particular scent was carried on the wind, a smell that was all too familiar. It smelled like,

    Fire

She took a deep whiff, the scent akin to her own flames but inherently different. "Oh yeah..." She realized, "That guy said something about another fire mage being on the ship..." They wanted strong fire mages for the mission right? Then surely the other mage was strong enough to handle himself, he didn't need her help right? Besides she must have looked rather pitiful. Half of her body over the edge of the ship, standing on the very tips of her toes just to get her body over the side, and the railing where it touched her skin had blackened.

Sliding a flask out from between the plates of his Samurai armor, Ardere stared the metal down before unscrewing the cap. Taking a swig of the warm liquid inside, it was sake. He was nowhere near an alcoholic, but he enjoyed the taste of home. Perhaps it was due to alcohol's little effects on his body. He did not drink to get drunk, in fact he was rather disinclined to it. Fortunately that task was not easy, but he did enjoy the taste of warm sake. No mood swings, no drunken stumbling. Just the sensation of warm rice beer or wine depending on who you asked, in his core. While he was made of fire, his body could still feel warmth. Gazing upon his leather covered fingers, he flipped them over and flexed the muscles. Hmm. The mage had gone through a physical change before his daughter was born, one making him thirty years old physically. With his Midian blood he did not look much over twenty five, but he would tell the difference. Just like he could tell the difference in the air pressure, as they reached the half frozen island. It was quite the interesting feeling, the difference in temperature as well. Sliding his pale hand off the cold metal railing, he turned towards the entrance of another passenger.

The sounds of passengers enjoying themselves, they had no idea what they were going to face. Sadly, neither did he. After facing a plethora of powerful enemies, he had no doubts in his mind that walking out of this alive was undeniable. The rush of sea wind through his hair, it was a curious moment to see who would appear on the deck alongside him. It would be a strange sight, a man with Samurai armor and massive flowing cloak. Sword on his back and head band through his hair, a guild master's appearance tended to represent his guild. Hopefully the precedent he set for Infinity Hydra would be a positive one, albeit a bit flashy. His moment of solitude was interrupted by a young lady, not that he minded it being interrupted in the first place. She was an attractive young girl, certainly older than his daughter though. There was a familiar scent about her, meaning it was likely her who was the source of the scent he had recently identified. Was she a god slayer? Perhaps she was the other fire mage, with a lovely charcoal scent such as that. Ardere would need a friend on this mission, and if she was from Eclipse Soul she was more than welcome to join him. Sauntering over, he noted her none too pleasant position across the railing. You alright there miss? Not used to the seas I'm guessing? A slight smile across his lips, the brown haired Samurai awaited her response. Hopefully she was alright. While the dragon slayers suffered motion sickness, he had not heard of a god or demon slayer suffering the same ailment. Rather than making any assumptions he shifted his stance to face her, hoping she would be alright. By the way, you wouldn't happen to be a fire mage. Would you? While his slayer senses could detect many things, even other slayers at times, he could not get specifics on magics. Fortunately most did not refuse to answer when asked, and the guild master doubted this young lady would either. Orange orbs fixed to her, his casual demeanor apparent, he was a rather reserved man on a ship headed for a fight.

Post by Mistress Venir 21st November 2015, 12:05 am

Heat cannot be separated from fire, or beauty from The finite.

She sniffed at the air again trying to decipher that smell. It was without a doubt similar to her own scent but was off. It hard to describe, ash and fire was the only words that came to mind. To most that would have been bad but to Venir it wasn't entirely unpleasant. If anything the scent would have been welcomed if not for a certain part of it. That scent had to have belonged to a fire mage, and perhaps that why it smelled off to her. Perhaps that mages flames smelled different than she was used to? Then again the only flames she was really used to was her own, and a handful of other types of fires. Chalking it up as nothing more than that, Venir's body slacked against the railing, her stomach calming down some now that her mind had been distracted from that queasy feeling. She was almost content if not for the sudden lurching of the ship as it hit a rough wave. The slayer had almost been fall straight overboard if not for her great deal of arm flailing. It was then that a voice rang through her ears.

"The sea is fine. Boats though? Not my favorite for obvious reasons."

The blonde braced her hands against the railing, leaving another set of burn marks on the wood. Slowly, she pulled herself back into an almost upright position. Amethyst orbs looked at the person who had addressed her. There stood a man, taller than her though that wasn't exactly an accomplishment to brag about, and he was clad in samurai armor accompanied with a large cloak. He certainly grabbed others attention. It must have been a flame user thing, to be so flashy and attention grabbing. Venir herself was guilty of the same. In a cold, even freezing environment, the fire user had a good chunk of bare skin exposed to the harsh wind though she seemed completely unaffected by it. The warmest thing she had on was an orange scarf looped about her neck. Other than that she was bold enough to be wearing shorts her pale thighs exposed to the cold air, a portion of her taut midsection was not covered by her rather thin looking jacket, and the jacket in question wasn't even buttoned up all the way leaving room for her ample chest to breath.

    Sheltered

Didn't even begin to describe the female mage. All she had known for a good chunk of her known memory was the halls of her guild, the very halls she had left. Eclipise Soul was an isolated guild in the farthest reaches of the Phoenix Mountains. It was the very placement of that guild, and her inclination to only spend time with guild mates that Venir wasn't exactly knowledgeable of real world things. Enough so that she would not recgonize a guild master when one stood before her. Truth be told though not many would recognize the woman was an ex-Ace unless she had specifically told them. However, the blonde wasn't exactly inclined to speak of her guild or the position she had once held within it. Nor was she sure about speaking of her magic simply because of how unsure of it she was. Yet she would not withhold that particular information from the curious man.

"I mean I guess I am...." She scratched at the back of her nervously, sensing the ship for any other possible mages. There was only one other mages presence upon the ship, a strong mage at that, and that mage had apparently stood before her. "Wait then that must mean you're the..." She gasped finally putting two and two together. Where one of them was reserved the other was rather quick to excite. Slipping a few steps forward, she drew close but hadn't touched the man nor made no move to do so. Instead she sniffed once more finally confirming the source of the earlier scent. The blonde then pulled back and gave a sniff to her own scarf that without a doubt carried her own particular scent. Comparing and contrasting the two, the blonde could only cross her arms over her chest letting out a small huff of air. The lacrima in her belly twinged and twitched, burning in what felt like detest. On some primal, instinctual level it was as if her body was warning her by picking up even such a subtle difference in scents. A warning that clearly stated to stay away because when it came down to it one of them was the real deal and the other was a man made fake. Her body tended to pick up on such things faster than her mind did, in fact half the time it felt like her mind was trying to keep up with her body. Even now Venir had finally managed to give some explanation as to her sudden sniffing albeit a vague one,

"You smell weird. Your scent is all wrong. It's too...Too much!"

So you can throw me to the wolves
    Tomorrow I will come back
    Leader of the whole pack
    Beat me black and blue
    Every wound will shape me
Every scar will build my throne

Noticing the burn marks on the railing, Ardere could not help but wonder if she was new to this power. It was highly unlikely that she had been trained by Hephaestus, but there were other fire gods. Then again, she would have more control if that were the case, Perhaps he was putting too much faith in fire beings, but his suspicion was the use of a lacrima. While her powers would rival his, she lacked the experience bit with the mentor. Fortunately for her, the fire mage was fairly keen on giving out help to companions or mission partners. Yeah, motion sickness is a killer. Lucky for you, we're getting close to the island. He could see it off in the distance, the half covered in snow island. There was a slight chill coming in from the western winds, one he had not felt before. The ominous feeling of being watched as they grew closer to the island could not be escaped, but no signs of worry would show on his face. If they were going to make it through this mission alive, focus was imperative. And as such, he would focus on the young lady for now. She appeared to be motion sick, but for the moment she kept it at bay. Her answer to his question would reinforce his suspicions, she was in fact the mage he was looking for. Ah, so you're from Eclipse Soul. Nice to meet you. Giving a casual, half-hearted salute to the blonde, he continued to be calm and reserved. Although, he would arch a brown at her sniffing of him. Yeah, I'm the Infinity Hydra guild master. Though with those senses of yours, you should be able to smell me from a mile away. Adjusting his armor, and wiping a bit of dust off of his shoulders, he kept his brow arched for a moment. She truly must have been new to this, but that was alright.

Placing armor covered hands on his broad hips, Ardere nodded. Well, I suppose you've never met another Flame God Slayer before then. I'm a first generation, so perhaps Hephaestus' magic scent is a bit strong. Sorry about that. But it is nice to meet you. Flipping his cloak behind his armor covered shoulders, a cape would be formed. The entirety of his red armor was revealed, the leather and wood from Midi evident. Looking down to the blonde mage, she seemed quite spiffy. Energetic and perhaps a bit strange, their mission should be fairly entertaining. My name's Ardere by the way. What's yours? Orange orbs fixed upon her, their conversation was quite casual on the deck of the ship. As the chill rolled in slightly, the boat shifted it's course towards the dock. Their vessel was avoiding a chill of cool air, from the other side of the island. As they sailed towards the dock, the two mages would have a couple of minute to converse before the start of their mission had officially begun. Oh and if you dont mind me asking, you are a second generation slayer yeah? I dont mean any offense, I just got the feeling you might be using a lacrima. It was casually asked, but he truly did not mean any offense. He was rather curious, and a bit intrigued to meet another like him. It was strange, but he looked forward to working with her. His body full of fire, he could resist the cold. Hopefully her body had adapted to her magic in a similar fashion, or they would definitely be in for one hell of a ride. The Captain announcing their impending arrival, several passengers walked out onto the deck to see their docking.

Despite the island now being visible, it didn't do much to calm Venir's anxiousness. If anything it only heightened her want or rather need to get back to land. They simply could not get their fast enough. That and the distance between the island and the ship they were on was rather deceiving. Dark ocean waters blended in well together, thus making the island look not very far off despite it having to sail for a little while longer. At the man's words Venir's stomach lurched once more but for a different reason. Acting was never one of Venir's strong suits, and she couldn't keep a poker face to save her life. Which is why at the mere mention of Eclipse Soul her expression dropped significantly, skin going pale. She looked almost haunted without even realizing that she had shown any of these reactions. Regardless of what form she was in Venir was known for an abundance of emotion yet it was only as of late that it felt like her emotions were being heightened, amplified, and she was beginning to feel negative emotions that she hadn't necessarily felt with such force before.

"Ah yeah that's where I'm from..."
A nervous laugh escaped her lips as she scratched at the back of her head awkwardly. It wasn't a lie but it wasn't exactly the truth either. Speaking in technical terms Venir was indeed from Eclipse Soul but in all honesty she couldn't say that she still hailed from Eclipse Soul now. Word had not yet traveled around Fiore about the closing of the guild after... After a certain incident that involved Venir herself. It had always been such an isolated guild keeping only to itself and to its members. Which is why it would quietly slip away, most of Fiore probably wouldn't notice its disappearance and destruction for sometime. Though that did nothing to ease the crushing guilt upon her heart. Memories of that day were quite literally burned into her memory. She could still recall the rage, the chaos, the pain, and all of the fire. Oh how it burned, how she burned, just recalling that made her heart pound but twinge at the same time! Snapping out of her train of thought, Venir tried to slow the quickening of her heart by placing her utmost attention on the mage or rather guild master before her.

    "You're a Guild Master!"

She practically squeaked in almost child like awe. One could almost see the sparkles in her amethyst gems. A real, live, guild master! Venir had only known two guild masters in her entire life, both of them having been too close to her as friends to have been looked at with such awe. This would be her first meeting with a guild master who had not been her own master and friend alike! "I apologize! I didn't realize I was in the presence of someone with such a position!" She gave a quick bow of her head, "I should have sensed you earlier!" Though truth be told it wasn't as if she was a pro at distinguishing one scent from another just yet. Besides there wasn't exactly a plethora of fire god slayers around for her to collect scents on either. "Venir RuLush!" She offered a hand to shake assuming that a fellow flame god slayer would be able to handle even her burning touch.

"Ah....Yeah...I mean that's what I've been told. No offense taken though."

Once again awkward, and suspicious as if she trying to dodge the question. She herself couldn't really elaborate much on her magic as she was still learning it. Where other second generations might have gotten their magic willingly, Venir simply had it thrust upon her. Only recently did that lacrima stir back to life after having been dormant for years. A lacrima that Venir did not place there herself, and did not know of its existence until-

    "Oh thank goodness land!"

So you can throw me to the wolves
    Tomorrow I will come back
    Leader of the whole pack
    Beat me black and blue
    Every wound will shape me
Every scar will build my throne

Chuckling slightly, Ardere nodded. He was in fact a guild master, perhaps he had gotten too adjusted to it. People seemed to be so surprised, but it was not a big deal. He would rather be noted as a powerful mage for more reasons other than his leadership of Infinity Hydra, but it was still something to be proud of. He loved his guild, even if they were a handful. Judging by Venir's reaction to the name of her guild, he assumed that there were some problems at home. Choosing not to prod, he looked back to see the island within clear visible view. Their journey was soon to begin, but for now he would take another moment so speak with her. It's no worry, not that big of a deal. We'll be equals on this mission. Giving a casual salute to the young blonde, he shifted his stance a bit. Doing all of this standing would wear out his feet and back before they even got there, so he chose to relax a bit. As powerful and confident as he was, he always got just a tad bit antsy before a mission. Perhaps it was excitement, or anxiousness. Regardless, his partner shared the same demeanor for now. Her name being Venir RuLush, a pretty name. Nice to meet you Venir, let's beat down some ice monsters then. Shaking her hand, the guild master nodded. They would get along just nicely it seemed. Holding up his fist, some black flames swirled around it before dissipating. He was not a highly energetic person one hundred percent of the time, but two fire mages against a horde of ice beasts was right up his ally. Calming down a bit, his pale lips formed a smirk. The ship was docking soon, the chill running past his spine before disappearing. Snowfall Island, a fitting name.

Turning back as the ship approached the island, he let out a heavy breath. Looks like we're here, if you have any things go ahead and get em. Waiting for her to gather her things, he only brought the sword on his back and the armor he bore. Walking casually over to the edge of the ship, it took a few moments to dock. The sound of the Captain speaking on the overhead echoed throughout his ears, but it did not waver him. Assuming his partner was ready, the fire mage jumped down onto the dock. Landing promptly, the two had officially arrived on Snowfall Island. Let's head to the edge of town. There's a wall guarding the perimeter of the town, should have the guards on it. We need to clear out the monsters that hit that first, and follow their tracks back. With our slayer senses it should be a piece of cake. Tightening the straps on his arms, Ardere cracked his knuckles. Popping sounds emitting from his knuckles, he walked into town. His direction was east, towards the side of town that faced the ice land rather than the beach. It was a fairly nice settlement, with people already enjoying the beaches on this side. But on the other side was an icy Hell. Some buildings were under construction while a few seemed damaged, likely from ice beasts sneaking past the walls. It was an unfortunate scenario, but the two god slayers should be able to take care of it. Confidently marching towards the edge of town, he checked to make sure Venir was following. He could not be losing her this early on, they would need each other in the end.

Heat cannot be separated from fire, or beauty from The finite.

"Equals huh?" She raised a golden brow in question clearly skeptical not of him but more of herself. In return to his casual salute, Venir gave her own mock salute back managing a small smile. Still, the blonde found herself rather hung up on the difference between him and her own previous guild masters. Yet she couldn't quite articulate the difference just yet. "Right!" She chirped without really realizing what he said. She held her fist up as well letting her own mass of black flames gather around it. Her's was larger but not because she was stronger but as a sign of her own inexperience and lack of control, another few inches up in to the air and Venir was risking setting the whole ship ablaze but luckily that didn't happen. However, she did take notice of the different levels of enthusiasm between them; small things like that Venir tended to pick up on faster than the larger and often times more important things. It was only then that she could finally figure out just why he seemed so different compared to the previous guildmasters she had encountered,

"He look young but feels so old....Like an old man... Is that the opposite of old but young at heart? Is he young but old at heart!?"

She almost was about to say something, "Old man" was already poised at the edge of her tongue when her short attention span was directed elsewhere. "Oh my things!" The flames on her hand extinguished when her attention was drawn elsewhere. With that the blonde dashed away back into the interior of the ship. The quicker she got her things, the faster she could get off of the ship! All she had was a small backpack of sorts packed with an extra pair of clothes and a few snacks.

    ~*~

    "Land!"

With her bag slung over her shoulder Venir jumped off the ship as well, nearly overshooting into the water instead of the dock. She hit the very edge of the dock with such force that she fell to her knee's almost hugging the iced over dock right there, "Land!" She internally confessed her love for the unrocking stability that land offered her. Having an abundance of energy Venir quickly sprang back up to her feet at the sound of Ardere's voice. "Right to the wall!" She held her fist to the sky once more a clear sign of her excitement until her expression suddenly dropped. Clear out the monsters that hit the wall first? There was going to be monsters? He did say something about ice monsters earlier didn't he? "Oh nooooooooooo.....When they said strong fire mage and snowfall island I thought..." Venir followed along like a kicked puppy, one that was desperately trying to get herself out of an unintentional mess, "I thought they needed fire mages to like warm the people up....That guy never told me I was going to do! He never mentioned ice monsters!" Internally crying, Venir still obediently followed along not quite as energetic. How on earth was she going to elaborate to Ardere that she wasn't the mage for the job or that she was the dummy who thought they were just there to warm people up? The last time she had used her magic for serious combat she had ended up blowing her entire guild up and losing complete control of herself. Deciding that she must have misheard her fellow god slayer Venir quickly questioned him without really thinking what she was saying,

"Wait just a minute old man! You didn't say ice monsters right?"

Ardere's eye twitched for a moment, as he drug his large feet through the streets of the settlement. Old man eh? I might have a kid now, but I'm most certainly not old. Just at heart. Chuckling slightly, he stretched his armor covered arms a bit before replying to the girl's comment. Yeah, ice monsters. Not sure what type yet, but probably ice elementals if they are from the Sorcerer's arsenal. I'm surprised his influence still holds here. Letting out a slight sigh, the two mages were getting closer to the wall on the far side of the settlement. For a town that could be subject to attacks at any moment, they seemed quite cheerful. Perhaps they were happy they could return to their home after so long, even if it was a bit different than they remembered. Home was something he held a high value to, and this mission had a special place in his heart due to that. The fire mage slid his leather covered hands into his pockets, leisurely walking through the streets with Venir alongside him. The two wizards stood out quite a bit, but not necessarily in a bad way. They were likely the only real wizards out here, the only ones capable of truly defending this place. Getting to the wall was their first priority, but the nice beaches and shops were a bit distracting. Breathing in the fresh air, the wall was within sight now. Turning to Venir for a moment, he slid his hands out of his pockets. I'll do the talking if you don't mind. But be careful, the creatures could charge in at any moment. Orange orbs focused on the wall, they had finally arrived. It had taken them a little while, but now their eyes were gazing upon a massive wall, perhaps 20 meters high.

Ascending the stairs that zigzagged back and forth, Ardere made his way towards the top of the wall. It would not take long, but once he reached the top it was evident how worth the trip actually was. The first bit of the island was lush forest and beaches, very beautiful. The other was a frozen wasteland, frozen trees and mountains unlike any he had seen before. It was like something out of Iceberg, quite off-putting. Oh my. Turning to one of the men stationed at the wall, he looked for the one with the most marks to identify as their leader. I'm Ardere, and this is Venir. We're here on the ice problem. The man appeared to be pleased, giving them a salute. He promptly explained the situation to them before allowing them to go about their business. Well, at first it was normal. We had built the settlement and things were fine, but then the ice beasts started coming in. They attacked every few days, destroying buildings and harming our people. We held them back with the town militia and some rune knights, but it wasn't enough. We built this wall, which was not easy, but we did. And now they've started to ascend it or bust through. It's not an easy task for them, but if even one of them enters the city it could be major bad news. We thought after the Sorcerer was defeated, things would get better. Nodding, the guild master looked off to the distance. I understand. Let's wait here Venir, and see if any make their presence known. He did not see any movement, but he was sure that was subject to change very soon. These beasts were sent here by the Sorcerer that used to have domain over this island, and his grasp had not ceased, yet.

Heat cannot be separated from fire, or beauty from The finite.

Venir had to do a double take at "kid" thinking that he was joking. He didn't actually have a kid right? Yet he seemed as serious as ever. "He has a kid." She seemed almost shocked unable to wrap her head around such a physically young mage, a guild master no less, having a child of his own. Wasn't one's guild essentially their child? Her head was practically spinning as she scrutinized the man looking for any hint of him lying to her or some feature that would give away his status as a parent. No matter how hard she looked he didn't seem to grow any older or more father like but he did still have that sense of "old" about him. "Maaaaaaaaan you make me feel like a kid!"She huffed to her self, arms crossing over her chest. She only physically appeared to be in her early twenties but mentally at times she seemed to be far behind but that was by no fault of her own. On the other hand her temporary partner was the opposite, appearing to be in his mid to late twenties but far older mentally. It was just a strange thing to her really, parents and parenthood. They were yet another thing in which Venir hadn't really knowingly encountered, but in a strange way she idolized them as well. Her lack of her own parents was probably the cause for that, not to mention her lack of memory. All she knew was that she was at a facility for sometime as a child, "A lacrima facility." She shuddered, the said object in her belly almost twitching in response.

"Ice monsters left over from an old ice wizard."

He had only confirmed if not heightened her fears. She didn't sign up for such an important task! Trying to quell the panic that was rising in her Venir could only huff as they passed by colorful shops and people alike. "Just stay in control." It was easier said than done, "Don't get mad." The ice wall was beginning to loom over them, a truly massive structure, "And whatever happens don't end up hitting him." Amethyst orbs shifted from the wall to the fire mage next to her. He was strong, she had no doubt of that but that didn't mean he was safe. In her own mind she was the most dangerous thing on the mission. An out of control cannon that had nothing to lose accompanied by someone who had a home and family to get back to.

    "Just stay cool."

"Right! Lead the way old man!"

Venir gave an elaborate swoop of her arms gesturing towards the stairs managing to give a small toothy grin. It was too late to back out now. She supposed she ought to warn him but that could freak him out, which would only freak her out in the process. The climb up the stairs was a long one, even making Venir feel a little tired once they finished their climb but it was well worth the view. "All of this is relying on two mages to protect it?" That thought alone almost made her dizzy, no longer feeling quite as confident about being there. She gave a small rather awkward wave to the man who saluted them but for the first time on the trip she did remain quiet. For one who adored socializing and being around others her social skills needed to be worked on. She remained silent while the man explained absorbing as much of the information he gave as possible. Only when he departed allowing the two mages to do as they pleased did Venir finally speak up, "Wait here?" She pointed down at the icy wall in which they stood upon. She didn't have a fear of heights or anything but...Her gaze flickered back to the city on the unfrozen side of the wall. If any fighting broke out that would put them at a risk not just from monsters but from herself as well. "Why not go down there ya know exploring or-" In her nervous excitement she slipped upon the icy structure, her boots not exactly having the best traction on solid ice.

Nodding, Ardere gripped his fist tight. Just for the moment. They could not risk running down there and getting ambushed, they had to wait until their enemy was in mid attack to interrupt their destruction. After doing so, they would be free to pursue their enemy. We don't want to- His ears twitching, the fire mage heard the squeak of her shoes as she slipped. The red tattoos of flames appearing on his face down to his neck, became a sign of his power revealing itself. His perception and reaction time was increased significantly. If a number had to be placed on such, it would be sixty percent. And as this occurred, he would turn to catch her arm. Sliding over, his shoes squeaked across the slightly icy wall. Catching the young blonde lady, he quickly returned her back to her former position upright. Be careful. Don't want you busting your head open before the fight begins. Letting go of her, he let out a heavy breath. They had narrowly avoided a major set back, but the two would have to be careful from here on out. They would be moving across the icy wasteland, in which beasts of ice would attack along with slopes of ice to traverse. It was perhaps not the best possible scenario, but the guild master was quite confident he could do it and keep her from hurting herself at the same time. Besides, company is on it's way. Shifting his stance to the side, he looked off into the distance. He could smell a new enemy making it's appearance known, they were still a bit of a ways off, but whatever it was had quite the speed. It's scent was easier to track than the noise, as there was little to none. Fortunately icy trees rustling back and forth would allow him to gauge their distance.

Ripping off the long flowing cloak he bore, the full detail of his red Samurai armor was now visible. The Kasai clan symbol on his back, Ardere drew the bastard blade known as Clarent. Red steel reflected parts of the light, he swept it to the side. The sheer force of this sweep sent some snow off the side of the wall, clearing a small area. Mr Guard, get your men to the bottom of the wall and make sure to clear up any holes. Keep the gates closed. Cracking his knuckles individually, he took a deep breathe before looking to his partner. As for you and I, we'll be going down. Holding the red bastard sword to the side, he turned to his partner before allowing himself to fall off of the massive wall ass backwards. As he fell, the wind rushing through his thick brown locks, he began to coat his blade in flames. His Sword of Kings would be formed, a ten meter long blade of flames he could use to his advantage. The red tattoos on his face would allow for more powerful attacks, as well as his natural aptitude or lineage to fire. Let's do this. Mid fall, he turned back around to face the oncoming group of beasts with his flame sword at the ready. The beasts below would show him and the towns people no mercy, so they would receive none in return.

Heat cannot be separated from fire, or beauty from The finite.

A fleeting feeling of weightlessness that often times accompanied falling was soon put to an end. Out of habit she made a great deal of flailing despite having one of her arms secured. A few times she had almost struck her partner, both their shoes squeaking upon the icy surface until at long last Venir was more or less forced back into a standing position no longer in peril of falling. "If only I could have!" She rolled her eyes at his comment, if she cracked her head open then she wouldn't be putting so many people in danger. Before she could even consider trying to fall once more, this time on purpose, a sudden rustling of tree's and a certain scent in the air caught her attention. Dead and dying tree's waved back and forth as something large pushed its way through them sending the snow that had piled up on the tree's down to the ground. The scent itself was icy, cool, repulsive but alluring at the same time. It made her nose crinkle in dislike but the rest of her body reacted akin to excitement. A pool of fire was already gathering in her belly just at the scent alone, she could only imagine what sort of reaction she might have if she actually saw the creatures themselves. Yet her mind screamed in detest, she had never been one to enjoy a good fight yet now her body was itching at a chance to rumble, to tussle in snow, and feel something smash or melt against her fists. It was a feeling that could only be described as:

    Frightening

    Terrifying

    Primal

Something that defied logic and reason just as her very existence had. All of her reactions were infantile, completely new and foreign to her body that had suddenly and so rapidly changed only a few week prior. It was obvious too with how she quivered; her mind telling her it was in fear but another part of her said it was in nervous excitement. Unlike her partner she hadn't had much time to learn and understand the reactions, to adapt to them, to control them. "S-Sounds good." Her breath steamed out in front of her when she spoke, her mind barely registering the sound of the guards leaving at Ardere's command. She watched for a moment in awe, like a child watching a superhero, as her partner in samurai armor and all fell from the great wall. Out of instinct she rushed to the edge, nearly slipping over it herself to make sure he wasn't committing suicide or anything of the like. He seemed fine, and knew what he was doing unlike the blonde atop the wall. Another wary glance down at the snow covered ground, and the icy monsters that emerged from the tree line, and Venir let loose a huff of air.

She wouldn't fall but she could fly....sorta....

    "Here goes nothing!"

Her heart was hammering in her chest as she dug her boots into the icy wall creating a harsh squeak. Positioned like a runner ready to make a dash, Venir pushed herself forward and off the icy wall, a blast of dark flames propelling her through the air. Chilled wind nipped and sliced at her exposed skin but felt almost pleasant against her overheated body. Another blast of dark flames and her body was propelled further through the air, the recoil of the flames carrying her farther and farther. Neither graceful, nor elegant, an excited holler escaped her lips to match the almost silly way in which she flew. Surely all the birds and all the mages who could fly out there were mocking her barbaric form of flight. She lacked control but had some grasp as to how to stay up in the air, and even could maneuver this way and that a bit, but landing was another story.

    "Watch out!"

Fire and Ice (Venir/Mission) Empty Re: Fire and Ice (Venir/Mission)

Post by Ardere Kasai 9th December 2015, 12:32 pm

    Let's watch this city burn
From the skylines on top of the world
'Til there's nothing left of her
Let's watch this city burn the world

The wind rushing past his ears and thick brown locks, the feeling of weightlessness made Ardere quite uneasy. His stomach felt like it had a million butterflies in it, but he was not afraid. Within a matter of moments, the black scorching flames encasing the crimson blade within his grasp, would collide with one of the beasts below. From what he could tell, to the best of his knowledge there were six of these beasts. With his slayer senses, his adapted hearing and sense of smell did not detect any other opponents. They were rather large beasts of ice, equipped with a form of wings. Their bodies lines in frozen icicles, spiked for war no doubt. The thick corrupt flames melted some of the clear ice, sending drips of water down the glistening edge of the beast's body. Snarling and growling, it did not appear to enjoy being melted. It certainly did not enjoy the darkness that began to consume it's ice, from the unholy flames. Being knocked back through the air, the Samurai quickly regained his balance. Sliding across the dirt, skid marks were left in his path. Staring the beast down, another one would join it's partner. The others were either going for Venir or the wall itself, to traverse it. Your master is dead, yet you still fight. Clutching the handle of Clarent tightly, his teeth ground together. This is where your fight ends. Dashing off at high speeds, a cloud of dust was left in his wake. Unleashing a barrage of strikes onto one of the beasts, it appeared he was just slightly faster than they were. Their bodies reminded him of bears, maneuverable on their hind legs. It was quite interesting to see them, but not so interesting when some of the ice went through his back. He was fighting two beasts, he had to remember that. Fortunately his flames were not weak to ice, and they did not only come from his body, but his body was forged in them.

Ice melting and corrupted, he performed a tornado strike. Spinning around, his blade hit the creatures multiple times, causing ice to wither away and crack. They were not beaten yet, but his blade encased in flames was dealing the damage of a powerful spell, not an ordinary hit from a sword. Snarling and exhaling ice, his only choice to avoid the oncoming attack was to dodge. Deflecting some of the ice with his flame blade, it began to freeze over. Ardere duly noted their ice was powerful, but rather than letting it slow him down he chose to attack. Bashing one of them over the head with the ice frozen over his blade, the blunt force would crack some of it's own ice. The splintered ice shattering from the blade, pierced the other ice beast. While the two were in pain, he took that as an opportunity to slash them both open. Ice turning black and to water, then withering away rather than being evaporated. His flames were not normal flames, and judging from his partner's ruckus, neither were hers. Eying one of the other beasts, his pale white fingers twirled the blade. Black flames spiraling through the air like a yo-yo, a serious look crossed the orange orbs fixated upon his enemy. His eyebrows arched, as his foot slid back and stance was taken. Dashing towards one of the beasts climbing the wall, he looked off to check on the young god slayer. She seemed inexperienced thus far, but the best way to gain control was hand on learning. This was certainly as hands-on as it got. Remember to focus Venir. Words of advice, and encouragement before he chose to take on another enemy.

Heat cannot be separated from fire, or beauty from The finite.

She didn't know why she told the ice beast to get out of the way, perhaps it was a force of habit, some part of her still feared harming others, even if they happened to be an enemy. Her warning went unheeded though. The icy creature neither moved out of the way nor seemed to understand her. At the speeds she was flying into it, it didn't even notice her presence until it was too late. "Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii-" There was no brakes, or landing gears, or slowing down for Venir, there was only a crash landing. Crash didn't even begin to describe just what happened when she hit the ice monster. Her impact was slightly angled but on top of the creature, she went in boots first. The ice of the creatures cracked from her impact alone, but her velocity kept her moving forward sliding down its back at high speeds. Which was bad for both the creature and Venir herself. "Ahhhhhhhhhhhh!" The yell slipped out of her lips, and instinctively her hands covered her head. The creature sported ice like wings, incapable of flight, and various other ice like spikes on its back but it did not have those protrusions for very long. Her initial impact did little to slow her down, and Venir's body went through the icy wings and spike alike as if they were made out of paper. Of course, that didn't mean they felt like paper... Her speed had carried her off of the creature, and she ended up sliding out along snow and ice for easily fifteen or so meters before she came to a stop.

"Owwww....I think I'm going to be sick..."

She rubbed at her back which had been subjected to most of the ice spikes and wings that she had torn through. She ached and her head was still spinning but at the least she was alive, and still capable of movement. "Mental note landing needs improvement." Venir would have to practice her flight skills or rather her landing skills another time... A sudden shadow fell over the blonde slayer, and the rumbling of the earth beneath her was never a good sign."Oh my goddess you don't look happy!" Didn't even begin to describe the enraged state of the creature that was now missing its ice wings and others things upon its back. Amethyst eyes widened in shock as the creature stood over her its cold jaws held open, letting loose a frosty roar right in her face. The roar itself made her ears ring, dazing her for a moment until she saw light beginning to builds its way up the creatures throat. Instinct again drove the blonde into action before the creature could exhale a blast of ice at her. She sucked in a large gulp of air, "Flame Goddess' Bellow!" and soon released that breath. A spew of black flames escaped her lip, enveloping the creatures face in a blast of flames. She kept up the torrent of flames for as long as she could until her lungs began to burn for oxygen. The flames ended and the ice guardian seemed to have lost its cold head to the Venir's inferno.

    "Ha take that!"

Her victory was short lived as its body began to fall, tons of ice and wicked icicles threatening to crush the young slayer. She kicked and flailed herself backwards, sliding along ice and snow to no avail. Until finally, she let loose another burst of flames this time from her hands, propelling her body once more at high speeds. At the least she wasn't crushed by the first creature, but one would assume that Venir would have learned by now that no good comes from throwing yourself around like a ping pong ball at high speeds. Her head of messy golden tresses soon collided with something all too solid, and all too cold. "Ouch!" Her hands flew up to her temple rubbing at the growing lump there. When she opened her eyes she was met with an all too familiar cold face...

    Today was not her day

Post by Ardere Kasai 31st January 2016, 12:35 pm

    I am the fire
    I am burning brighter
    Roaring like a storm
And I am the one I've been waiting for
    Screaming like a siren
    Alive and burning brighter

Tightening the dead grip he already had on the handle of his blade, Ardere observed the two enemies ascending the wall. Twirling the blade between his fingers, he quickly performed a three step run up the flat surface. He could not run up walls, but he could skid across it and knock both of his opponents off. This was exactly what he did, swinging his arm in an arc allowed him to use the Sword of Kings in such a way that it came down at the two enemies. Thick solid flames smacking right into the face of the beasts, bits of ice melted off and were corrupted as they fell from their spot on the wall. Landing back down onto the ground with a slight dent, the fire mage took no time in attacking the creatures of ice. He dashed in, dishing out repeated strikes in diagonal formations as he learned in kendo. Moving his feet constantly, he kept the creature at bay. Within a second, it's partner burst forward at the guild master, only to receive a rude send back. Flames scorching across both of the beasts, he pulled his arm back slightly. The flames that encased the blade began to swirl and brighten, as energy was being charged within them. All of the snow in a ten meter radius melted instantly, as he planned on felling these two right here and now. Sword of power! Unleashing a hellish amount of flames in the form of a cylindrical blast, the two beasts within point blank range had no way to resist. The ice they had formed melted, and the green grass would grow once again. They were not just turned to water, but the water turned black before evaporating. The beasts had no idea what hit them, but there was another enemy leaping towards the wall he would have to deal with.

Sprinting in the direction of the beast, he was able to latch onto it's back just before the ice being attached to the wall. As it scaled the wall, the creature tried to shake off the fire mage. Ruthlessly scratching at it's back to no avail, and swinging it's body back and forth. Ardere did not let go, in fact he held on with one hand as tight as he could, and struck the beast four times with his blade. With the final strike, he drove the flame blade right through the beast's shoulders. Continuously melting its icy flesh, the monster wailed in pain. If it had been any animal the fire mage would have felt horrid for making it screech like such, but this was a beast conjured by pure magic, to destroy the homes of these good people. There would be no more destruction in this settlement. As the beast fell, so did the fire mage. Twirling in mid air, he landed right on top of the beast as it hit the ground. The combined force of gravity doing it's work and the man slamming it to the ground would cause a highly volatile shattering of ice across the area. Shards of ice scattered, and he drove his blade over them to completely melt them. After beating his enemies, he used his keen senses to make sure if there were any more enemies within the area. To his knowledge, they were alone. But he looked to Venir to make sure the young lady was alright.

Heat cannot be separated from fire, or beauty from The finite.

There was a moment in which time seemed to stand still, warm violet pools meeting a frozen soulless pair that almost seemed to peer right through her. Venir was certain that if not for her flame body, she'd be shivering from the stare alone. Scratch that she'd probably be dead from its stare alone. She was half tempted to say something witty, sarcastic, and more than likely stupid but it wasn't as if the creature would enjoy her humor, or really understand it, let along get riled up by it. She did at the least offer the creature a hesitant grin, hands up in the universal sign of friendliness. For the briefest of moments it was as if there was a connection between the two, though that could have been wishful thinking on Venir's part. It was probably the latter option considering that only a moment later the creature raised the icy blade formed unto its arm. It let loose an ear-splitting roar and it brought the frigid blade down.

She tucked and rolled to the side, the large blade narrowly missing her. A plummet of snow, ice, and earth was sent up around the sword from the sheer weight and power behind the attack. Venir was sent up along with the debris, rolling off to the side, and landing on all fours with all the grace of a cat. The snow about her hissed, melting from her very presence, as she slid to a stop. Her heart was pounding in her chest, a smirk having found its way to her lips. Poised like a runner, the slayer did not move until her opponent did as well. For such a large ice monster, it moved surprisingly fast. However, it was still large and cumbersome where as Venir was petite, able to maneuver about easily, and strike with some power. A flurry of strikes with nothing but her bare fists hit the beasts front leg, cracking the ice wherever her fists landed. Eventually the ice crumpled and its leg gave out, the creature letting out another frosty shriek. Still, it wasn't quite ready to give up and neither was Venir as she shook out her fists, shaking off the numbness in them.

    "Let's go!"

    ~*~

After a rather drawn out battle of nothing more than physical prowess, and somehow the slayer had managed to come out on top. Then again when it came to ice and fire, the latter generally trumped the first. Venir did of course give some credit to her slayer body, and her body in general to taking down the ice guardian. Not only did she have the strength to rival a goddess but her body despite seeming solid, and entirely human was made of flames. These flames to their credit, could look and feel like her own skin save for the rather high temperatures, but they could also be hardened so to speak just to add a little bit more of an "umph" to her punches. Also phasing attacks straight through her could come in hand, they still hurt but at least she burned her enemies while she was at it. Though phasing attacks through her did nothing to help the blonde when the ice guardian crumpled down on top of her, whatever semblance of life that was in it had long since departed.

    "Heeeeelp."

She flailed, not necessarily in pain but in discomfort. At least her upper half wasn't covered by the large chunks of ice, so it let her flail her arms out and call out for her temporary partner, one that she hadn't seen in some time. Venir was almost half-worried for him, but he seemed more capable then herself. At the least he wasn't the dummy that stood in the wrong place at the wrong time, and was trapped under the fallen ice guardian. "Worst case scenario I can sit and wait for this big block of ice to melt..." Already the ice near her body was melting some, but not at a very fast rate. In fact the steady dripping of the chilled water on the exposed parts of her skin was anything but pleasant, this sensation actually making her shudder.

"So much for the luck of a goddess..."

Letting out a slight sigh, a smirk crossed his lips as Ardere shook his head from side to side. The young Venir was a valiant fighter, but it was obvious she was new to this sort of thing. Fortunately channeling the raw power of less experienced mages was something he had done before. The two would prove to be a useful team in this endeavor, the ice would soon melt. Walking slowly over to her, he noticed the slightly major impairment to her movement. Channeling his strength, he slammed his two hands into the body of the fallen ice beast. Don't worry, I've got you. Muscles tightening, his whole body strained for a mere moment before he lifted the beast off of her. Tossing it into the air, his body spun around and his heel slammed into the center mass of the beast. Shattering the icy frame, bits of the creature scattered across the area next to the two wizards. Offering a hand to the young woman, he gave a reassuring look. Come on, we've got work to do. After helping her up, he dusted himself off a bit before turning to the wall. It seemed to be intact, at least for now. There were some claw marks, but the city guard had swarmed to the top of it. Calling out to the men atop the massive structure, he gave them some parting words. We're going to find the wizard's lair. Keep the wall safe until we got back, drop hell on them if you have to. Magic, weapons, large rocks, anything you can find. Take care fellas. Adjusting the straps on his armor, the guild master turned to his partner. Let's go then, shall we? After confirmation from the fellow god slayer, he would make his way towards the icy part of the island. The lair of the ice wizard that held domain over this island for so long was close to the center, meaning they would endure some powerful icy winds. Tightening his grip, he could feel the difference in temperature. They were still near the beach, yet it felt so cool.

The grip the ice wizard had on this side of the island was very evident, the trees becoming more and more frozen as they traversed the land. Placing his hand on one of the shrubs, the ice was so cold it almost hurt to touch. Fortunately both of the flame slayers possessed and fire body, meaning they could survive the intense temperature a lot easier than most. Exhaling, he could see his breath quite easily. There was no shivering, but even Ardere could tell it was getting colder as they went. There would likely be ice monsters lying in wait, but they could not let that deter them. Wow, the ice wizard really did a number on this place. Even in death. The trees had become completely frozen over in some places, and the ground was now littered with snow. The mountainous terrain up ahead gave him a slight uneasy feeling, mountains of ice. Traversing those would be a serious pain in the ass, but he had a few ideas on how to fix that. First, they had to make it through this icy forest and fight off anything in their path. Which should be easy, should be.

Venir did not have to wait long as her partner came to her rescue. Though of course even such a short wait felt like an eternity to the bubbling ball of energy, and the incessant dripping of melting ice upon her made the wait even more torturous. Even when he appeared, Venir harbored some doubts as to how he might get her out. Yanking her by the arms would hurt, and she didn't want him to melt the block of ice as all the water would come down upon her, and moving it? Well, that seemed out of the question. However, in a world of magic the impossible often times was very possible. As proved by the male mage, who put all his physical efforts into lifting the block of ice that was once a living beast. Venir wasted no time in squirming away from the creature the moment it was lifted enough for her to escape. With a resounding crack the body of the ice creature split into countless chunks, raining down upon the snowy surroundings. "Such monstrous strength!" She could only imagine how the other creatures might have faired against Ardere, but she chalked up as the skill and might of a guild master.

"Thanks!" She chirped pleasantly, grasping his hand firmly in her own she allowed him to pull her up. He clearly wouldn't have any struggles pulling her up to her feet considering his previous feat. Despite having been trapped under a large block of ice only moment prior, Venir seemed to be fine save for her damp clothes, but even those were rapidly drying with her unnatural body heat. Violet hues glanced back towards the wall and the men that stood atop it. Gathered along its edge they looked like eager spectators, was this perhaps the first time they had seen mages defeat the large ice beasts? "Bye~! Be careful!" She waved her hand, again and again in good nature. For a moment she thought the men might not have saw the wave of her hand, the two of them had to have looked like nothing more than red and gold spots upon the snow from so high up. At long last a few of the men gave shy waves in return, and the blonde grinned turning to her partner, "After you!" Now that they would be traveling away from anyone that could get hurt, Venir was more inclined to show her usual self. Energetic, bright, always eager, she made for the perfect image of youthful optimism.

Always a few feet behind, Venir let Ardere take the lead. With such experience and strength it was only natural that he lead. That and his stature allowed for Venir to use him as a wind shield, keeping most of the frigid winds away from her less protected body. She wasn't bundled up in armor like her partner, and she was far from cold. However, she didn't want to push her luck in a magically induced blizzard. "Yeah, some of these icicles are my body length!" She shivered, slipping around a said icicle that hung from an iced over tree. When they had first entered the forest of ice, Venir had trailed her fingers along everything, like a child in a candy store. Her powers were new, and there was something particularly pleasing about watching things melt with just a touch of her hand. As they progressed deeper though, her touch could no longer melt upon contact, and the ice was so cold it was akin to a burn upon her fingers. Thus Venir kept her hands to herself, and her attention focused upon the back of Ardere, unable to see around him considering her own rather petite stature. Her childishness did not seem to be limited to actions but also to patience,

    "We there yet?"

Exhaling deeply, even Ardere's breath was quite visible. While the two fire mages were made of flame, they could still freeze. Their immunity to the temperature aside, they had to be careful. It would be imperative that they take shelter in a cave or abandoned structure at some point along their journey. Rubbing his hands together, the brown haired man looked around as his partner posed her question. Staring up at the icy mountains, they were wild looking. Venir, I'm afraid we've got a ways to go left in our journey. Climbing up that mountain is our only option, by the time we went around it the town would have been invaded by enough ice monsters to finish them off. Tightening the straps on his armor, he took a deep breath. I hope you've been practicing your climbing. Giving her a mischievous smile, it was all in good fun, but he was rather serious. We're fire mages anyways, if it gets too rough we can blast our way up or through it. Walking as he conversed with the young blonde haired woman, they were getting closer to the mountains. No creatures had happened upon them just yet, but he had quite the feeling that their encounters with them were far from over. They had put off an impressive display back there, but beings of magical creation could only sustain a feeling of wariness or fear for so long. He had a feeling many of these creatures did not even feel fear, rather just an icy void from which they were created. Running his fingers across some of the ice, he could feel the cold evil emanating  from it. The world they were in was the creation of a single mage, and that kind of revelation was almost staggering. He sort of felt bad for the wizards who had to fight and put him away, but he also felt uneasy that they still had to clean up their mess after the wizard's defeat. Choosing not to dwell on it, the fire mage trekked through what was now becoming a more snowy terrain.

As they traveled, the ground and trees were more covered in snow and ice than they were before. It was a bit hard to move through, but the mountain blocked a significant amount of wind. Damn snow. A normal person would be stuck in this crap. Ardere knew he was covering the other god slayer, but he did not mind it. He had more experience with his fire body, and he was covered in armor. The wood did not help very much, but the leather certainly did. Fully zipping up his jacket, it covered the lower part of his face. The red headband on his head flickered several times in the slight wind, but they had not seen anything in terms of wind just yet. As they continued, it was now apparent how close they were to the mountain. It was so gloomy and icy, he could barely see the sun. The fire king hated to imagine how bad it was on the other side. Placing his hand on the mountain, he pressed into it a bit. This mountain was covered in ice, and grew because of the ice wizard. We've got one hell of a trek ahead of us Venir. But I've got you if you need help. Cracking his knuckles, the guild master exhaled deeply. This mountain was just another step to climb, another obstacle in his path. As a fire and crash mage, no obstacle would stand in his path.

Heat cannot be separated from fire, or beauty from The finite.

His words did not bring the hope in which she was looking for, and the mention of mountains only made her already pale skin go paler. "Up a mountain?" She echoed back. It wasn't that she was lazy, in fact she was far from it. Rather the poor conditions in which they were trekking through made anything seem almost unbearable. "Well, I used to live in the Phoenix Mountains so this is gonna be a piece of-" The blonde paused for a moment realizing her mistake, "It's gonna be a piece of cake." She shrugged, casting her violet gaze elsewhere. Perhaps she was just overreacting. Surely plenty of people lived in the Phoenix Mountains but still a mage that claimed to be from the Phoenix Mountains but not necessarily from Eclipse Soul was rather suspicious. Especially considering the curious circumstances in which the Eclipse Soul guild burned down to the ground. Regardless of the possible or not possible suspicions that might be brought out, Venir was very quick to change the subject, "Burn a hole straight through a mountain of solid ice? Sounds fun but time consuming." Then again it depended on just how much effort they put into it, with an experienced flame slayer and one who was still learning the extent of her powers? The possible results in which they could produce was exponential.

Farther and farther they traveled into the woods, each step was more difficult than the last. Temperatures were low enough to freeze a normal human, and Ardere was right. Anyone else would have gotten stuck in snow. "I might even get stuck..." If Ardere wasn't just plowing his way through the snow in front of her she would certainly be stuck. Even from behind him Venir was struggling. Their difference in height wasn't very large but it was just large enough that Venir had to pick up each foot, to place it into his footsteps, in a marching like motion. However, the cold was making it increasingly difficult. Unlike her fellow slayer, she had not dressed appropriately for this weather. Doing her best to hide the effect of the cold on her, she pulled the scarf tightly about her face, covering her reddening nose, and chattering teeth. Her arms were crossed tightly about her chest, fingers curled into fists as she followed along as quietly as she could. Eventually, they came upon the mountain in question. It looked more like a block of solid ice then it did a mountain, and just the thought of the other side made her body quake in....coldness.

    "Mph!"

It was supposed to be a, "Got it" but from behind her scarf it came as just a muffled mutter. She even gave him a half hearted, almost pathetic thumbs up as she stood there quaking behind him. Venir then motioned for him to take the lead. Near the mountain the snow was almost up to her waist, and her doing any sort of leading would be a terrible idea. Pushing her way through the snow? Bracing the cold front herself? She could already imagine a build of frost upon her clothes, and could only pray that the her flame body would keep her own skin safe from possible frost bite. This was yet another experiment, seeing just how far her body and magic can be pushed.

    I am the fire
    I am burning brighter
    Roaring like a storm
And I am the one I've been waiting for
    Screaming like a siren
    Alive and burning brighter

Sliding on his thick red gloves, Ardere took a deep breath before shaking his head. 'This is a stupid idea, but it's the fastest.' He thought. Well this mountain isn't like the Phoenix Mountains, it's made of ice. So perhaps you're right, blowing a hole through it is too time consuming. And thus, we climb. Chuckling a bit at her half-hearted thumbs up, the fire mage had no choice but begin to climb. Placing one hand on a rocky bit of ice, he got a good grip. Parts of the former mountain were still left, but only at lower altitudes. The higher they got, the colder it would get, and the less of the former mountain would remain. This had been a resort island before, and after being taken over in ice a lot of elements changed. Here goes nothing. Beginning to ascend the large mountain of spiked ice and frozen earth, he could not help but remember his exam back in Sabertooth. He had been buried alive, and forced to trek through an underground cave system with only one truly good arm. Fortunately this time he had two good arms, but the amount of ice would likely nullify that at some point. 'Damn' resounded in his mind, it was very slippery. There were several ledges he could leap from, but he had to watch Venir at every turn. She was likely not as experienced in icy terrain as he was, but she did have some climbing experience at least. He would have asked his phoenix to fly them over the mountains, but the icy winds at that height would likely have harmed her. The same could be said for his ship's exterior engines if he had chosen that route. It was a real pain in the ass, but he had a solid backup plan if things didn't pan out the way he wanted it to.

Ascending higher, he maintained a steady pace to allow his partner to keep up. How you holding up down there? Hopefully Ardere would get a fruitful response, but something uneasy was taking his stomach. Grinding his teeth for a moment, the winds had not picked up yet, but he could catch something on the winds; a scent. An icy evil scent was approaching them, likely some manner of beast on it's way. The magical presence would enter his range of sensory within seconds, meaning whatever it was had begun to close in on their location swiftly. Seems like we've got company. Climbing up onto a rather large ledge, it appeared they happened upon one of the former tourist locations. Below the ledge was a frozen pond, and a waterfall falling down the side of the mountain. He liked to imagine hikers trekked up here for a dice in the pond and the waterfall, considering it's strange location in response to the mountain. Waiting to help his fellow god slayer up if she needed it, he could hear the growling and snarling off in the distance. They did not have much time to prepare themselves, at least not as much as he would prefer. This whole mission was one icy shit storm after the next.  It prompted an deep exhale, but it was not one of disappointment or sadness, but of confidence. These beasts had no idea who they were messing with.

Blowing a hole through the mountain wasn't exactly a viable option but climbing it wasn't thrilling either. That meant that they'd be physically touching the icy mountain, hiking up its perilous slopes, and braving against whatever may lie in wait. "Can he fly?" She was half-tempted to ask but she was exactly thrilled about the answer, nor could she vouch if even she could fly in such poor conditions. She could propel herself at high speeds but steering and landing were difficult, and she wasn't certain if she could carry him along for the side. He stood a better chance than most considering he was practically fire proof but weight wise? Well, he wasn't overweight, there simply was a rather large size difference between them. "This is gonna be a long trek." She sighed, watching her own breath fog about her before her violet gaze was focused on the mountain of ice before them.

She had to crane her neck all the way back just to look at the top of the mountain, and its peak was concealed by dark ominous storm clouds. Carefully, her warm palm hovered next to the icy mountain, her skin not making contact with the chilly surface. Even from a distance the cold permeated from it, sunk into her bones, and sat there. "I have a bad feeling about this..." She muttered, voice lost to the wind. Even if her gut told her this was a bad idea, it wasn't as if the two had any other choice. All they could do was climb the mountain before them! Climbing proved to be a challenge that progressively got harder and harder for the young blonde mage. "Shit. I can barely feel my hands. This cold isn't like that time I was with Iza." She had ventured into cold, icy territories before but none that were caused by some sinister ice wizard. Ignoring her numbed fingers, Venir kept her pace doing her best to try and not cause much trouble. Her incessant shivering made it rather difficult, but for the most part she hadn't slipped yet. "I'm alive." Her response held the slightest bit of irritation in it, but she couldn't help herself. Her magic had made her far more temperamental than she used to be, the cold only fanning the flames of anger that was began to burn beneath the surface.

"You have got to be kidding me!"

She had caught the scent just a moment after Ardere had warned her. It was to be expected that the icy monsters try and ambush them when they vulnerable and climbing. That didn't make her any less irritated that the damn monsters were returning so soon. Venir pulled herself up onto the icy ledge with a grunt of effort. Already the lacrima in her belly was heating up in preparation for combat, and the feeling was welcomed to say the least. It almost made her irritation fade, almost. She peered about trying to spot the said enemies, reddened nose sniffing the air. When the wind shifted directions just slightly, she caught the scent again, "There!" She pointed towards the source of the scent, and with such keen eyesight she was able to spot the creatures with ease. "More of these assholes?" She growled, almost threatening if not for the chattering of her teeth. "You think they'd have learned by now..." She cracked her still chilled fingers, but they were beginning to thaw some now that she let her anger burn its way through her.

Fire and Ice (Venir/Mission) Empty Re: Fire and Ice (Venir/Mission)

Post by Ardere Kasai 2nd March 2016, 9:01 pm

Looking back and forth, Ardere made sure that they had some room where they were currently placed, seeing as what appeared to be six creatures were closing in. With a limited fighting space, they would have to be careful. Fortunately there was enough room to move, and he had a plan on what to do with the monsters. Be careful, don't slip and follow my lead. Twirling the blade between his fingers, the fire mage focused on the ice creatures voraciously climbing up the mountain side. They were the stronger breed of the two they had faced before, but they were still weak to some extent. You take the left two, I'll take the right four. Observing his opponents as they climbed up the large mountain of ice, forged from the strongest magic, his blade caught on fire like it did before. Bring it on, he thought. Fighting was fun for the guild master, but he took it quite seriously. He had to look out for himself seeing that he was a father, and for the young partner he had with him. They were aspiring fire mages, and they would not be done in by some mere ice beasts here today. Leaning over the edge a bit, he built up some black flames in his mouth. Let's see how you like this, Flame God's Bellow! Exhaling a mass amount of black solid flames, it scorched down the side of the mountain at the beasts below. Scraping up and melting some of the ice, the rest of it was corrupted with pure chaos. Two of the beasts were knocked down the mountain, taking significant fall and fire damage. The other two continued to climb, but he had a plan for them. They would not make it up here to harm him or his partner, in fact they would not make it very far at all.

Waiting until just before one of the beasts climbed up onto the ledge, he slammed his foot down upon the face of the beast. Sending a shock wave through it's body, some of the ice cracked within as it was sent tumbling down the mountain side. He had swiftly dealt with one of the two foes, but the other was beginning to climb up. Dragging his heated blade across the arms of the beast, he melted right through them, then planted a strong kick center mass of the ice beast. Sending it tumbling, it was the first of the beasts to completely shatter when it hit the ground. The others were attempting to climb back up, but they were significantly injured. Slamming his blade into the ledge, he began to melt right through it. Using all of his strength, he slowly seared through the thick magic embedded ice, attempting to break a large chunk of it off. As the beasts got closer, so did he to completing his goal. They were fast, but his flames were hotter. Melting through a large chunk, it broke off right in front of him, sliding down the mountain, scraping against it. Smacking right into the beasts, they shattered as soon as they hit the ground from this height. Get back up from that. Turning to make sure his partner was alright, he kept his blade out just in case. She could take care of herself, but these creatures of ice were relentless, proving to be a real pain in the ass.
