Heat cannot be separated from fire, or beauty from The finite.

At first glance fighting the large ice creatures while up on a ledge might not have been the best choice. However, the two slayers had a distinct advantage from up above as the creatures none to gracefully clambered up the side of the mountain. "I thought I was a bad climber." She at the least didn't tear out chunks of ice while she made her way up. Venir couldn't help but roll her eyes at her partner, "Wasn't planning on it." Another irritated huff of air, that fanned her golden bangs, and Venir was peering over the cliffs edge. She kept her boots firmly planted into the ground beneath her, though there was plenty of distance between herself and the ledge. "Only two huh?" The lacrima in her belly twitched in agitation, what did he not think she could handle more? However, her head through the cold induced angry haze managed to be somewhat thankful.

The two ice creatures that had so graciously been bestowed upon her, didn't seem any more thrilled about her as she was about them. "Good we both don't like each other." She glanced to the side to see just what exactly his so called plan was, certainly he didn't mean to actually fight from such a small ledge? She watched only for a moment before her own ice creatures were upon her. It was close enough that its head was over the ledge, rows upon rows of icy teeth snapped at her, and let out a growl. Never one to be shown up, Venir sucked in a deep breath of air, pausing for a moment to feel the frozen air fill her lungs. Poised still like a statue, her chest puffed out as that frozen air warmed, and that warmth filled her chest. "Flame Goddesses Bellow!" A torrent of dark flames left her, hitting the first ice creature directly, causing it to fall back, and off of the cliff. On its way down it hit the second ice creature, taking a chunk off of that creature as well. Finally, it hit the cold hard ground below it and shattered into countless pieces. "Ha! Take that!" She cheered throwing a fist into the air in victory, satisfied in a deep, primal sort of way.

Her body had warmed some, but not completely. Most of her extremities were still numb. Fingers and toes were tingling, but her face was still warm from the recent blast of flames that had escaped her lips. Letting out another large breath of air, she peered over the side once more to see the last ice creature still attempting to climb up the side of the mountain. It had lost the large ice wings to the previous creatures fall, but it still had all its limbs which meant that it could still climb. Not that it would be able to much longer.

    "Flame Goddesses Divine Edge."

She held the middle and index fingers of her right hand together, dark flames gathering on that hand. Any numbness in that hand quickly melted away, a small smirk finally forming upon her lips. She swiped her fingers to the right, as if she was slashing an invisible blade. Where her finger had traveled through the air, more dark flames were produced. Then the line of dark flames went down the mountain, burning, and melting whatever they touched including the creature below. Her aim was just right, burning through the creatures limbs so that it would not be climbing up the mountain again, and instead it fell to join its brothers shattered fate.

Looking upon their works, Ardere nodded and even cracked a smile. Good work, now let's take up camp here. Observing the slight indentation in the mountain on the ledge they were currently placed on, he had an idea. Igniting his fists, the fire mage took a deep breath. Drawing his fist back, he began to slam both into the ice repeatedly. Unleashing a barrage of punches, the ice began to crack and melt, forming a small cave opening. However his hands did hurt, and there were large chunks of ice sitting in the cave that would block their entering of it. Holding his hands out, flames would begin to appear on the chunks of ice. It just so happened that any time the god slayer punched a target, living or not, it set them ablaze. After melting all of the ice, the floor was covered in a few puddles of black water, but for the most part it was dry enough for them to stay in. The cave he had created for them was about five meters in diamater, a size of a rather large tent. It would be good for them to make a fire and warm up, then get some rest. Cave sweet cave, I hope it works for ya. Should be a decent enough place to set up camp for now. Walking inside the cave, it was cold, but they were protected from the harsh winds of the icy forest. It was most definitely a good time to be a fire mage, providing them a unique set of skills for this mission. For once, he was thankful for Hephaestus beating into him the knowledge of taking on ice and water opponents. It was something he thought he had understood for years, but the forge of the gods had taught him otherwise. If there was any lesson to learn, it was that one never had learned all he needed to know. Knowledge was something that lasted forever, and had always been his goal for so long as a warrior and scholar.

Guess I should get a fire started. Get some rest if you need to, I'll keep on the lookout. Creating a magic seal on the floor, Ardere created a sizable camp fire to keep them warm. It was a black flame, seeing as his god slayer magic affected all of his abilities, but it would suffice. The flickering black flame had a red tint, due to his magical energy. The once dark and cold cave now served as a nice little place for them to regain their strength. There was sure to be enemies out there far stronger than the ones they had encountered back there, and they still had a wizard's fortress to traverse. They had made it to a higher point in the mountain, now they would only have to finish climbing it and the fortress would be in reach. Judging by what the original Snowfall Island team had stated, the fortress was not that big, and rather more secluded to hide his whereabouts. This would have proved problematic for most teams, but with their slayer senses and the ice beasts lurking out there, it should be easy to find the source of this magical presence. He was quite curious as to what had bound the curse to the center of the island like this, it must have been strong to withstand it's creator and source of power being taken out. The coasts of the island were beautiful, but if the ice creatures continued to invade, they would not be for long. Taking a deep breath, he felt the warmth return to his body. Leaning against a rock, he let out a heavy sigh. It was time to rest, but he stayed alert. Enemies could always be lurking.

Heat cannot be separated from fire, or beauty from The finite.

When the ice creature landed upon its fellow ice creature, shattering into countless blocks of once living ice, Ven finally let her bottom meet the earth. She let out a breath of air she hadn't realized she'd been holding. The amount of steam she had produced this time was substantially larger than when they were walking in the forest, but then again her body had finally heated up to its usual fire hot temperatures. However, now that combat and adrenaline were fading even her temperature was beginning to give out to the cold. Soon enough shivers had overtaken her, and the fire mage was quick to sit up from the frozen ground, though the winds seemed to have picked back up again. Luckily, her companion had a plan of sorts. A rather painful looking one that made the blonde wince with every slam of his fists again the ice. "Ouch that's gotta leave a mark." She would offer to help but another blast of cold wind had sent another shudder through her, and instead she stood there quaking feeling half frozen.

    "Shelter!"

She cheered entering the cave despite the puddle of dark water. Only a few steps in and Venir was mildly disappointed, "It's still cold." She chattered, they were no longer getting hit with harsh winds but that didn't stop the cold from permeating around them. Not to mention the cave was still made out of solid ice. "Right rest." She sat herself down upon the ground, watching as the guild master went to work. It wasn't as if she could sleep, nor was she particularly tired but if she sat there long enough, without the wind chilling her, then perhaps she could gain some warmth back. Still, she couldn't help but wonder how her counterpart seemed so unaffected by the magic induced cold, "Am I weak or is it cause he's more experience. Or maybe cause he has more clothes on." She rested her chin on her knee's as she contemplated. Only when the fire was produced to Venir finally move, edging closer and closer to the fire until she almost in it. "Waaaarm!" She chirped, enjoying the heat put off by flames other than her own. As warmth slowly returned to her body she took a moment to marvel at the flames. The flames had a red tint to them while Venir's had more of a purple, but there was no doubt that they were that of a god slayers considering the dark color. It wasn't exactly very often that one encountered another slayer, or a god slayer, let alone another flame god slayer.

    Growl

At first Venir believed the growl to have come from outside but as another growl echoed through the cave she realized it was her own stomach. A blush dusted her cheeks, just thinking about and looking at flames got her hungry. "I've never really tried another god slayers flames before...I wonder..." She'd just take one little bite, surely her companion wouldn't mind much. Peeking just to make sure that he wasn't looking, Venir snuck in a small bite of the flame. Naturally, Venir couldn't eat her own flames, and truth be told she'd always wanted to try a dragon slayers flames, but just like most slayers it wasn't as if there was a plethora of them for Venir to hassle. Demon slayer flames hardly seemed appetizing but never did Venir think she would be able to try a god slayer's flames that were not her own!

Post by Ardere Kasai 11th March 2016, 2:30 pm

At first, Ardere gave his companion a strange look. Her stomach was growling, and he couldn't go letting her starve to death. He himself had never eaten another god slayers flames, mainly because he was the only one he knew of. While Venir made use of a lacrima, she was still a god slayer in the end. Creating a small black fire ball in the palm of his hands, he handed it over to her with care. There you go, can't have you dying on me. If he lost his partner, it would just be one lonely Samurai out in the middle of this ice storm. That was something he could not have, this curse wasn't going to break itself. Leaning back against the wall, he pulled off his cloak. Tossing it to her, she would notice it's vibrant colors and durable fabric. Wrap up and take a nap, I'm sure your body needs time to rest after the fights. We've got a hell of a walk after we get over this mountain. Sliding up a bit, he propped himself up against the ice. Staring out at the entrance of the cave, he gazed out into the snowy abyss. The fire mage could not see much, other than the tops of some snow covered trees, and trails of snow fluttering across the sky. The sky itself was covered in clouds, the sun barely a spec shining through. It was truly an icy hell out here, one he had not encountered before. The only thing comparable to this was Mount Hakobe, considered the coldest place in Fiore. It was odd to be out here in the cold, but it was necessary to help the people on the town. Letting out a heavy breath, he kept Clarent by his side, clutching the sheath of the crimson blade tightly. He would not sleep, at least not for a while. His mind was too cluttered with thoughts of the curse and the town. The guild master always found himself antsy during missions, eager to get the job done. Fortunately, time was of the essence here and rushing through it to break the curse would not blow up in their faces.

Keeping the flame in the center of the room going, it would warm the two mages while they rested up. Ardere loosened the straps on his leather bracers. Allowing his skin some room to breath, the cold air flowed through the plates of his leather and wooden armor. It was enchanted, therefore it would not freeze over on him, but it was a rather interesting combination when in such cold weather. It was his family's armor, and he always wore it when he went out to battle. Pulling the red head band out from between his thick brown locks, his hair fell down a bit, revealing it was actually fairly long for a man's. Sighing lightly, his orange eyes shifted their gaze from Venir to the entrance several times before he pulled some parchment papers out from between the plates of his armor. They were ice magic notes. Prompting a smile, he had still retained some of his scholarly habits even as a guild master. Clutching the notes tight for a moment, he loosened his grip. We've got a hell of a mission ahead of us.

Heat cannot be separated from fire, or beauty from The finite.

For a moment Venir just looked at her companion, almost stupefied at his offer. She hadn't meant for him to actually offer her some flames to eat, but it would be rude at this point to deny him. Despite being  somewhat stunned her hands moved on their own accord. With her two palms cupped together she took the offered flame as gently as possible. Treating it with the utmost delicacy Venir looked more like she was holding a glass ornament rather than flames. Hands that were so used to fire, and the heat that was brought with it felt strange holding the black flames, something that they should have been used to. Her own fire was inherently different than his, and though some might call her crazy, there was a certain texture to different flames. That was not the only difference between flames, texture was just the beginning, there was the obvious color difference, scent difference, and even taste. The latter was the one that most wouldn't understand. All of these fundamental differences made the flame in her hands feel odd, so much like her own yet not. Then with only the briefest hesitation she gulped the flame down as gracefully as a slayer could, which wasn't very graceful. There was hardly any proper etiquette on eating elements!

"Hmmmmm...." She let out a breath of air, still trying to find words to describe the taste on her tongue. "It's good I think?" It wasn't as if it was the most delicious thing she had ever tasted but it was more like...A home cooked meal? The kind that was pleasant simply because it was made from home? Not wanting to be rude the blonde cupped her hands together again, forming her own small black flame, "You don't have to try if ya don't want to..." She quickly added, offering it up and withdrawing her hand if he took the flame or denied it. With the aid of her reflexes Venir caught the cloak with ease. Handing it back to him crossed her mind, if she was cold he had to have been a little cold too, but another wave of shivers shot that thought out of her head. "Thanks..." She grumbled while pulling the vibrant cloak about her like a blanket, relishing in the heat that still clung to it. However, the look on her face suggested that she wasn't going to be fine with sleeping while he stayed up and kept watch. It wasn't as if she didn't trust him, if anything it was rather unfair for her to be the one napping.

Almost defiantly she stayed awake, not really speaking or anything but simply staring into the flickering fire as the guild master tended to it. A few moments of silence and the slight pout to her lips, a sign of her defiance, slacked. Then her head would occasionally bob, lulling to one side before consciousness kicked back in and she straightened it again. Dark lashes continued to bat against her cheeks, struggling to keep her eyes open. Eventually the young woman lost her battle against unconsciousness and sleep took her. It wasn't a particularly deep sleep but it was pleasant none the less. When travelling, and battling so much often times it was hard to tell just how wary one's body was, and to some extent the weather got to her. Normally, she could have easily gone the rest of the day travelling with a handful of fights scattered here and there. With the howling wind and snow? Her amount of energy was lacking. Besides the warm fire and cloak wrapped about her was far too tempting. Shifting about in her sleep, she pulled the vibrantly colored cloth about her, practically burrowing herself in the fabric.

Accepting the flames, he twirled them around his fingers with his pyrokinesis. Ardere continuously gazed outside, keeping his senses keen. An enemy could appear at any time, and ambush the poor fire mages. But on that same note, rest was needed. His body would be working in overtime to keep warm, so he needed all of the energy he could muster. Swirling the flames around his fingers, he took a bite. They were different than most of the flames he had eaten before, almost like a dark chocolate. Finishing the flames, he leaned against the wall at a slight angle. Letting out a sigh, within a few moments he found himself laying down, still clutching his sword. While he was still staring out the opening of the cave, his body was significantly more comfortable laying down. He relaxed all of his muscles, and allowed himself to float between sleep and consciousness. This allowed him to react to any loud noise or strange scent, but still feel like he was resting well. It would go on like this for a few hours, and of course he did not dream. But fortunately, he heard no loud noises and smelled no strange scents. It was likely the ice beasts were out hunting for them, or harassing the townspeople. Hopefully the wall they had constructed would hold until they could get back. The creatures likely chose to attack at night more often than not, due to the hot rays of the sun. The edges of the island were quite warm, still resort worthy and would likely melt the creatures with ease. At night they were still susceptible to the heat, but it became easier to freeze the areas. This meant they needed to move quickly, and use that opportunity to sneak right into the former fortress of the ice wizard.

Standing up, the fire mage dusted himself off. Looking back outside the cave entrance, he did not see or hear anyone, at least for now. Moving over to the young lady, he lightly shook her shoulder to wake her up. We should get going. They had rested well enough, and their opponents did not rest at all. Their only option was to hop over the mountain, and to speed things up, he had an idea. Once the other god slayer woke up, he would string his cloak back over his shoulders and readjust his sword. Stepping back outside of the cave, he placed his hands on the cold ice. His gloves did help a bit, but it was still cold as hell. Moving quickly was imperative, as they needed to outmaneuver their opponents. Fortunately it was a short climb to the top of this section of the mountain, not the full peak, but a shorter section they could traverse. Standing atop the mountain, he looked down the slippery slopes and jagged ice. Well, I think we're going to have to slide down. Running pale fingers through his brown hair, Ardere nodded. It was not the most ideal plan, but it would allow them to reach the bottom of the mountain faster. Time was of the essence. The guild master was unsure what exactly they could use as a sled, but he had a few spells up his sleeve that could help. Worst case scenario, he got a little inventive.

Heat cannot be separated from fire, or beauty from The finite.

Her light sleep, was peaceful to a certain extent. Normally, she slept with no dreams or nightmares to speak of. That was usually when she was in the comfort of her own bed, or at least somewhere that was safer than her current place of rest. In an icy cave, surrounded by terrible conditions, and ice beasts waiting for prey? Hardly a place in which one could sleep deeply or peacefully for long. Her current environment was probably why she had a dream or rather nightmare of sorts, the first of its kind in months.

    Smoke

So much of it, that it filled her lungs, and made her cough. It wasn't just the smoke that was concerning but also the flames. Everywhere she looked there were black flames that almost mocked her. "A nightmare..." Or simply just bad memories. Never did she willingly recall that day, and only in sleep did these nightmares plague her. She hadn't had one in months though, and this was hardly the time or place that she wanted to have it again. Her feet moved, carrying her forward through smoke and fire alike. She didn't want to move, she knew what awaited her but still the dream carried her forward. A resounding creak was heard from above, the whole place was coming down, the structure of her home was cracking under the heat of the flames, of her flames. Still she carried on, moving through falling debris, trying to avert her eyes from the bodies, deafen her ears from the occasional screams. When she turned a corner she felt a hand upon her shoulder shaking her. The familiar face was blurred by tears but still caused Venir to jump back startled, again they shook her, word echoing in her ears-

    "Ah!"

She flailed, fist cocked back for a punch but her limbs ended up getting tangled up in the cloak that was being used as a blanket. "I'm awake, I'm awake." She huffed and puffed, blonde bangs stuck to her forehead. None to gracefully Venir got to her feet, passing Ardere his cloak back in the process. Any previous startled expression that her countenance bore was gone, and in its place was an almost uncharacteristic stone mask. If there was one good thing that the fitful sleep had done for her it was warm her body up, and get her itching for a fight. Not that it made her feel much better after her less than pleasant dream. Her body had heated enough so that even stepping out of the warm confines of the cave, wasn't too horrible. How long her internal heat would keep her warm was a different question. Venir climbed after her companion in silence still trying to shake off the dark cloud, that almost visibly hung over her. The climb was short enough that when they reached the peak her body wasn't completely warn out. Besides getting down was easier than climbing up! "Right..." Sliding down the mountain was easy, but not if there was nothing to slide down on. Unless, of course, they slide down with just their bodies. That thought was immediately thrown out the window. She cast her amethyst gems about, looking for something that they could use as a slide. Unfortunately, there was nothing but piles of snow and ice.

The fire mage let out a heavy sigh, staring down the mountain path, he had selected a route which would provide the least amount of resistance from spikes and jagged ice. I wish we could fly, but this ice storm is too heavy. Fortunately, I've got an idea. Unstrapping the large shoulder pads from his Samurai armor, Ardere laid them down on the ground. Doing the same with his chest plate and leg plates, all that was left was his leather bracers. Using the strings that normally ties around his body, he tied them together. Wrapping his cloak around these pieces, a rather sizable sled was formed. It was oddly shaped, but it was primarily wood and leather crafted, making it pretty standard for a sled other than the fact that it was enchanted. Sitting down on the sled, he placed his hands on the side, which were movable due to the flexibility of his armor, hopefully enough to get some steering going on. Climb aboard. Please keep all hands and feet inside the vehicle at all times. We're in for a bumpy ride. Waiting for his partner to join him, he would not mind if she wrapped her arms around him, if anything he would prefer it. Rejudging the route he had taken, they were really high up. Even at their max speed, it would no doubt take several minutes to get down there, and using their flames would put them at too high of a speed to stop. This was the only route, and unfortunately they had to take it. Alright, let's go. Taking a deep breath, the red head band between his brown locks fluttered in the icy cold wind. His fire body gave him a good resistance to the cold, but he could tell it was not a preferable temperature at this altitude. Kicking off, they would go sliding down the mountain.

Reaching a high speed, the wind fluttered through Ardere's hair and red jacket. It was an intense feeling, almost like a roller coaster. Having double layered the armor and wrapped it up, he did not feel much in the way of bumps, but it was certainly bumpy like a car ride on a horrible road. Fortunately, they were sliding evenly across large portions of ice, so their journey was becoming more comfortable. As they decreased in altitude, large patches of snow became more common. It was more relaxing, and almost fun even to slide across the snow. Quickly swerving to the left, he narrowly dodged a spicy piece of ice. His maneuverability in this make shift sled was not perfect, but it worked. Hold on tight. Shifting his weight, they slid across a rather large piece of ice, and were airborne for a few moments before landing on another piece of ice. Sliding across it, they spun around several times before the fire mage kicked off of an icy rock, prompting them to slide forward again. Jumping off of a slippery slope, they landed across the snow, sliding down half of the mountain. They were making pretty good time, especially compared to their ascent timing. Perhaps they wouldn't do so poorly on this mission, perhaps they would prove a fire mage's worth, as if it needed proving. Nonetheless, they knew the responsibility of their job, hence the sliding down a very dangerous mountain on a sled made of Samurai armor.

Heat cannot be separated from fire, or beauty from The finite.

Venir would have agreed with him outloud, but instead she kept her focus on looking for something they could use to sled down. If the two could simply fly to their destination, this mission would have long since been done with. Despite not really properly flying, Venir could cover a large amount of distance at very high speeds, albeit uncontrollable speeds but the point still remained. At his words Venir ended her search for something to slide down. She herself was going to suggest simply kicking off a large block of ice and riding that down the mountain. It would have been a cold and slippery ride, but it would work. Unless with their combined heat they actually managed to melt the block of ice faster than they could travel down. Fortunately, Ardere's idea seemed a bit more practical. "Not bad." The blonde nodded her head as if in approval. Who knew that all his armor put together would make such sizable and decent looking sled? Apparently, there was more than just one use for plates of armor, making the female slayer half tempted to invest in some herself.

A small laugh escaped her lips, almost enjoying herself. None to gracefully she climbed into the improvised sled, not particularly graceful and more than a little awkward about it. Where should she place her arms and legs? As she was now her legs were bunched up so that her chin rested atop her knees, and her hands gently grasped at the back of his shirt unsure of where else to put them. As the sled tipped forward, for a moment teetering over the edge, the blonde had second thoughts now that she looked at just how high up the were. "W-Wait, wait, Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!" An almost comical yell left her lips as they finally began their descent, picking up speed without any assistance from either of the slayers. Unable to help herself, she clung to the male practically melding herself into him. Her grip must have been crushing, her arms now wrapped tightly about his chest rather than gently gripping his shirt, and the same went for her legs that were now wrapped about his waist like a vice. Eventually, her yelling ceased, but her face was buried in his back. "I think I'm going to be sick." Her voice might have been swallowed by the wind.

For someone who so fast, Venir did not enjoy when something that was not controlled by her was making her go fast. It made her feel sick more times than not, and the sled was of no exception. Eventually, the descent became a more gradual one, and the ride was a little less bumpy. Cautiously, she peaked out, one cheek resting against Ardere's back as her gaze now settled on the passing scenery. "This isn't that bad." Her own long mane of blonde flowed behind her like a cape of gold. Any almost pleasant feelings she had for the sled ride down soon dissipated. "What?" She asked with worry, Ardere's voice having been drowned out by the window. A sudden bump, and next thing Venir knew the two of them were airborne for a moment. Sudden weightlessness was nothing compared to the spinning that came afterwards once they hit a patch of ice. "Oh goddess...." Her head was spinning and Venir swore she could see stars. "I'm really gonna be sick. Make it stooooooooop!" She yelled again, her grip that had previously slackened returned back to bone crushing.

Zooming down the mountain, the two god slayers were making excellent time. A slight smirk crossed Ardere's pale lips, but as he turned back to see his partner succumbing to severe motion sickness, his look turned to an embarrassed one. Whoops, sorry. It'll be over soon. I promise. Leaving a trail of snow and mist in their wake, the makeshift sled appeared to be holding up, at least for the time being. The fire mage hated to see his partner in such a condition, but unfortunately she would have to bare it for now. So far no ice beasts had made their presence known, but he would not be surprised if they noticed the two barreling down the side of an ice mountain. While their plan accounted for their lack of time, it was not the most stealthy of tactics. Fortunately his reaction time was well beyond that of a normal mage, and this allowed him to narrowly dodge any spikes or rough patches, but that did not mean the ride was completely smooth at all. They were sliding down an icy mountain after all, and they were bound to find odd places too frozen or too soft. Running his eyes across the mountain tops, he did not see much other than fog at the moment. He could see frozen trees, but unlike the ones on the other side of the mountain, there was no wood left, purely ice. The abyss of cold and ice was unending, but that would soon cease to be the case. Swerving to dodge several slippery areas, the samurai kept his senses keen. His eyes peeled and ears sensitive, nothing would be able to sneak up on them, at least not to his knowledge. Pulling at the leather and wooden plates, it seemed to be holding together rather well, still. But he could tell he had loosened the inner workings of strings and wire, meaning after this was all over some reworking would be required.

Ears twitching, Ardere arched his eyebrows. We're almost there, but watch out. Something's not right. He could not see any enemies in the nearby area, nor could he smell them. But, he could hear the rustling in the snow. It was not quite clear yet, but enemies lurked in the white maelstrom of wind and ice. Lifting up the sled, they jumped right over a small crag, using their speed and the angle of the ice to launch themselves quite the distance away. It was a bumpy landing, but hopefully Venir could make it through it. Not quite how I imagined this day going. Gripping the sled tight, he bent his back to decrease the air resistance, speeding up somewhat. Whatever was nearby had begun to close in on them, at least within thirty meters of their current location, whatever it was. Sliding across the slick white ice, cracks shattered the chunks of frozen water as they had made it to the lower part of the mountain. It was nice to know they had made it this far without any resistance, but he had to admit he expected an enemy at some point. The world was not easy, and no mission he ever had the luck of participating in was either. But that was just part of the fun.
