Stricter Regulation of and Better Code of Conduct Empty Stricter Regulation of and Better Code of Conduct

Post by Guest 12th December 2015, 8:09 am

I love this site dearly, and I'm quite glad Izayuki brought me here; however, I've been noticing that rudeness between members is not being handled well. There have been several people, from my view, that have been run off of the site because people have gotten away with being rude to them/bashing their work/etc. This is not how a site should be ran; the Code of Conduct on here needs to be more strictly followed, and staff need to make sure they lay out punishments as needed. It also means that you have to toss aside your feelings about the person; don't let them get away with a rule break just because they're your friend. That is unacceptable. These rules should also include staff members, just because they're part of staff does not mean they are relieved of these rulings. I want this site to prosper and have a nice community, but right now this community is toxic to new members.

I was previously on a site that had great site rules; the staff did their job and people were punished for what they did against the rules. It was a "three strikes and you're out" system: three warnings, after that, you get a one week ban, repeat what you did, you get three weeks ban, one month ban after a second repeat, three months, six months, (I think there was even a year-long ban, but I don't remember) and then permanent. However, ban lengths can be skipped depending on how often they broke the rule and how bad of a rule break they made.

I realize that these rules are somewhat similar and mildly different, as this site was Warriors based for many years before changing to fantasy animals. Anyway, these were the rules/guidelines that everyone had to follow:
    FeralFront's Rules:

I feel that our Code of Conduct needs to be put into more detail and written in modern language, not the language that the ten commandments is written in. Even for me, that's hard to understand, and I know that you think it's fancy, pretty, etc and all, but it can lead to confusion. Not all of the example rules can technically be applied here, but I do know that if you take these rules into consideration, revision ours, etc, this place will be a better site. Though you can see where some of the rules can be applied here to help make this site a much more friendlier, more fun place to roleplay for new and old members alike.

If you would like, I can help you out with revamping the Code of Conduct, so that people better understand what they mean and what they are/not allowed to do.

This is adding on to what I previously said about site rules and such, but this is more focused toward our staffing.

I feel that each position of the staff team are able to do a little too much of another staff position's job description. Not necessarily saying that "oh, an item moderator is accepting character applications" kind of thing, but in handling certain aspects.

Each position should have their own specific thing they do on the site, and just that, and I know it sounds limiting, but it's most efficient.

For example, the development team would be solely for focusing on making the site a better roleplaying place. They would create fun events, develop new items to be used, armory, etc (whatever they make), as well as helping the site look more appealing to new comers, easier to navigate, and so on. Taking the members' ideas into consideration and making this site in the view of the people it's meant to entertain.

Moderators would be the ones who accept applications for items, characters, and magic, but instead of having specific people dedicated to just one part, just have the entire moderator group do all three things. That way no one is forced into waiting for that one specific person to get on to accept their application. You could retitle this Application Moderators instead of just moderators.

I would say not to have so many chatbox moderators either, but maybe two or three, who focus only on making sure the chatbox and site are a friendly place. This means that they are able to get on every so often to check on the chatbox and make sure no flame wars, bashing, or plain out rudeness is happening. As well as to make sure that any reports of rudeness or rule break throughout the site are being handled and punishments given out correctly. You could call these people just "moderators" or "community assistants" for example.

Admins can be the ones people go to when "chatbox moderators" aren't around to report issues to, as that's a sole admin's job, is to make sure the site is running smoothly and efficiently. Admins would be allowed to do everything that every other staff position is able to do, since Admins are the top dogs. This means they won't be as bogged down with so much work, but should be willing to help out the other positions when needed. So, they aren't entirely useless, and not everyone is dependent on them when an issue arises and they're not around.

I'm sorry if these were horribly explained. I'm bad at explaining what I think.

I usually stay away from things like this as it can cause a whole lotta drama, but I honestly like this idea! As a former role-player of FF(feral front), they did have a WONDERFUL and extremely efficient set of rules! And personally, I agree with you Marshy. The CoC seems a little.. Loose and doesn’t really cover everything. I know I am most likely speaking out of turn and should probably just be quiet about this.. But the CoC can be a bit.. Confusing with how it’s worded.

Next on the rankings, I agree with that as well. It seems a bit easier for everyone, or I think it’d seem like that.. Because the sections seems a bit.. Limited. Not like there aren’t enough sections or jobs for the staff, but it just seems like it’s saying “Oh! You can’t approve these or you’ll get in trouble!” well, it feels like that to me.. And I know it doesn’t really mean that, I think.

Anyways! Getting a bit off topic.

I 100% agree with you on this, Marshy and I really hope this doesn’t get shot down and this can actually happen. It’d probably mean less people leaving and just less rudeness all around (I hope qwq). Because as you said, people really have been leaving because of the rudeness they’ve received that hasn’t been punished! And not only that, but it’d also be nice to have this really apply to staff as well because quite a few members believe that because they’re staff, they’re getting a special treatment. I understand that they aren’t, I really do.. But a lot of members feel like that.

    Getting off topic again.. QwQ

Anyways! That was my response! ^^"

Coming from a member who's only sticking around as of right now to complete promises that I made, and tie up threads so I don't just leave people hanging, this is something that may indeed be able to help out not only all of us that consider this place a home but the site itself! Alike Cookie, I myself tend to shy away from topics like this one because of the possible drama and/or other things I'd rather leave unsaid, but I'll go ahead and reiterate that this is a good idea - at least in my own perspective! This suggestion applies to everyone and may be able to provide a clearer line of equal bounds, being rid of at least some the issues that individuals may be finding one way or another if not all. I'm sure that quite a few people here at this point just want to get along with one another, have fun, and enjoy what the days have to offer here. After all, that's what this place signifies, right?

So, without further ado, I'll just finish off with saying I'm all for this suggestion!

Just ... amazing. I love the idea. As you mentioned, we do have a "three strikes and you're out" sort of thing, but people don't exactly follow the idea. Honestly, I think people are quite scared to take action which was probably why the drama keeps happening consecutively. Yes, I do agree with you that CoC should be written into details and yes, I agree with all of those rules you've written down there.

Coming in here, even though I too, normally avoid these topics. ^^

I think Cookie(omg who were you on FF? I was Viperfang~) took the words right out of my mouth, as did Shu and Hika!

Admittedly FeralFront did have it's own problems, but overall they had a decent system going on- it was just a matter mostly of people actually sticking to it. ^.^

Thank you all for the support! This really means a lot to me because I was hesitant in posting in the first place out of fear of being attacked and denied.

Cooke, I didn't know you were from FF. I was marshall lee. on there if you recognize that name.

Thank you, Ken, for bringing this up with the Dev team.

In regards to the moderator team being divided it was purely to allow moderators to have a point of focus so they aren't all over the place, but that doesn't mean they can't do other apps just that they have a set focus or specialization.

They are kinda like red mages. They can do both kinds of magic and swordplay, but some might focus more on white magic, black magic or swordplay. DOesn't mean they can't do the other things though.

However, the rest of the suggestion i'm all good with :)

Oh. I wasn't aware they could accept other apps than what they were listed as able to do on the staff list. I thought they were only able to do those certain applications and nothing else, was what I was getting out of the thread.
