    Job Description:

    Previously:

The days spent traveling to the ancient ruins was long and hot. Even for the Earth Wizard who was used to traveling in blistering heat and dry cold. Mashyuu was... to say the least miserable with the travel. He was however happy to be traveling with someone from Sabertooth for once. "...Hey, I just wanted to say thanks for coming with me on this job. I really didn't think I could handle something like this with just Rocky, as good of a guard as he is. It means a lot Emilia." He said to the beautiful red headed woman.

It took a bit for the trio to make it to the dig sight but when they did Mashyuu ran a hand through his sharp brown hair and whistled low. "That looks heavy." He said while pointing at the massive stone doors. Mashyuu was strong but he hadn't really learned how to simply move earth with his magical powers yet.

Mashyuu dusted off his orange pants and brown boots and patted his shoulder to call the rock dog that was nearly half of Mashyuu's size. It leap't up and brought a good amount of weight down on Mashyuu's left shoulder. He glanced over at his "new friend" and wondered how much her armor weighed in comparison to the armor he could summon. "So you think those are locked?" Mashyuu asked and started for the doors.

He pushed the doors hard and they didn't budge. The two were supposed to delve into the ruins and see what happened to the Knights and the other diggers who went down into the ruins. Rocky dropped off Mashyuu's shoulder and started to push against the door with Mashyuu and together they caused the door to budge.

Dust shook off the doors and a light gust of wind hit the pair. It sent chills down his spine but aside from that Mashyuu didn't feel anything else. He looked up at Emilia and waved her to the doors. "Ground looks stable and it isn't worked stone..." He said. His voice carried lightly in the hall behind the door. The walls were made of hard red stone and had strange paintings on them.

Emilia grunted in response to the younger mage's thanking her for doing a job. "Money's money." She stated rather simply. It was clear where her loyalties lie: to herself, and to the almighty jewel, the thing that made the world go 'round. She didn't particularly care about anyone in the guild, even her teammate. She didn't know why, but she just could never feel any sort of camaraderie towards anyone in the guild. Perhaps it was because she never intended to stay long.

Beauty was one thing that generally didn't come up when describing the redhead accompanying Mashyuu. With a rather scarred face for her age, and very crooked nose, she perhaps could have grown to be a beautiful woman, but that would have meant not spending her childhood fighting well... anything she thought she could beat... and some things she knew she couldn't beat. Her body would definitely be more attractive than her face to most, though it too bore its fair share of scars, and was currently hidden under the second skin that was her plate armor. Between the armor and the helmet covering her body and head, there really wasn't anything to hint at her sex, with her face being rather masculine.

They were stopped at a set of large doors. Emi paused to look them over as her companion asked if they were locked. "Doubt it."

Emilia watched the earth mage and his rock companion work together to move the door open. She probably could have helped, but didn't see the point. She unslung the shield from her back and drew her mace and walked in, not really listening to Mashyuu's comments on the stone. "I'll take point." She said, moving past him into the ruins. She made note of blood and weaponry in the area. She sniffed the air. This blood was a few days old, but she could catch the scent of more farther down in the ruins. "Stay ready. We're not alone in here." She told him, raising her weapon and shield into a ready stance.

Emilia drew her shield and mace and moved past Mashyuu and Rocky stating she would take point. The Wizard followed behind Emilia for a moment, looking at the blood in the area with concern. "Looks like a big fight happened. Are these blood patterns something you get with normal weapons?" He asked while stopping to pick up a seemingly clean one handed war hammer.

He looked it over and tested it's weight carefully. After deciding it might come in handy while in the area Mashyuu gave it a few test swings and grinned to himself. Slinging it over his shoulder he continued to follow Emilia down the dark, somewhat cool halls. While the trio walked, Mashyuu constantly looked over his shoulder to make sure that he wasn't being followed by anything or anyone that they didn't know.

The blood of Mashyuu was pumping hard while he started to grow nervous. It didn't dawn on him until a few moments ago that many men and women had apparently died in the tunnels even though there were no bodies seen in the area. What on earth were Two Wizards and a smaller scale Golem going to do against whatever force did this?

The two Wizards and Rocky came to a wall that split off it the shape of a T with halls going as far as the eye could see in both directions.
The brown haired Wizard looked down the left hall and could hear something moving towards the pair but an echo came from the hall to the right as well. Mashyuu braced himself and readied his hammer, for whatever could possibly come at the trio. "Rocky, get ready." He ordered. Mashyuu bent at the knees and closed his eyes, feeling his surroundings in the narrow halls. He would have to trust that Emilia had his back and wouldn't let anyone past her if a fight broke out.

Emilia continued along through the ruins a short way before stopping, holding her shield arm up to signal for her ally to stop as well. Her eyes narrowed as she caught a new scent... no three new scents getting stronger. "Three things coming." She said before inhaling more. "Two... dogs I think, and something else... I don't know what." She said as she lowered her shield again, getting ready to block and bash with it. Her grip on her mace tightened as the scents approached. A squealing sound could suddenly be heard a bit deeper down in the ruins, soon followed by sickening crunching and tearing. Emilia noticed a strong increase in the scent of one of the dogs. "Well... I think the unknown thing is attacking the dogs."

A few seconds later, the footfalls of the remaining dog were heard as it came running towards the duo. It looked sickly, gangrenous. Flies buzzed around it and maggots burrowed in its dead flesh, but it didn't seem to be actually completely dead. Looks like it needed to be brought out of its misery. It started to charge at Emilia as she turned Trauma around, holding it upside down. "Come 'ere you mongrel." She hissed as it leaped at her. She had fought dogs and wolves before without too much difficulty. There was a strategy to it really, let them leap at you and run them through in the air. And that was what she did. She thrust upwards with Trauma's spiked handle, driving it deep into the animal's chest cavity. That wasn't enough to kill it, however, no surprise really, who knows what was up with this thing. She detonated a Force Pulse at the tip of Trauma's handle, inside the beast. It made a rather strange fusion of a yelp and a squelching sound as most of its insides were crushed from the shockwave inside it. She slammed it down onto the ground and stomped the thing's head for good measure before yanking Trauma out of its corpse, then wiping the blood and viscera off on its fur. The handle was far from clean, but at least it wasn't too slippery now, so she could still use the weapon, which was a good thing, as whatever had killed the first dog revealed itself, carrying the dead dog in one of its claws as it snarled at the group.

"The hell is that thing?" Not that it mattered, it was in Emi's way, which meant it would soon be dead. The woman started to charge towards it.

The beast that charged forward was a cruel twist on what it should have been. "The hell happened to that thing?" Mashyuu asked himself more so than anyone else in the room. Before he had a chance to get a real good look at it however, Emilia slammed the spiked end of her mace into the dog then used some strange spell to blow the insides of the decaying monster apart. "...Cool." He muttered under his breath but the sound of something far worse coming towards them drew his attention.

Emilia charged the hulking beast that held a large dog. The monster started to rush forward and charge as well, tossing the dog aside and going for fresh meat. The monster was covered in scales, it moved at an incredible speed towards the pair of Mashyuu and Emilia. The male Wizards face twisted in a strange fashion before he smirked and raced to join the charge. His right arm moved forward and bent his elbow up at a ninety degree angle. "Rock wall!" He shouted and cut off the monsters escape by placing a massive wall of stone behind the beast.

Without giving her a chance to object Mashyuu already had a plan. "Get to a flanking position! We can take the thing down." He raised his finger and with it, a small rock floated from the hall to hold in front of him. Mashyuu took aim while dropping into a slide. "Rock Bullet!" He shouted and blasted the monster between what Mashyuu assumed was it's eyes. The rock soared through the air and slammed hard. The beast barely flinched and swung down at Mashyuu. 275

Mashyuu went wide eyed and rolled to the left, just barely avoiding the beasts strike. The ground rose up from under where Mashyuu was laying and he half smiled. He knew that Emilia would be able to get to position soon, he just had to hold out a bit longer.

Emilia heard her younger companion call out from behind her as she charged to get into a flanking position. A good maneuver, in her mind. The beast swung at her, but she ducked under the claws and moved to flank it as Mashyuu came charging in following his rock bullet. The beast swiped at him and missed as well. Probably a good thing, since he didn't look like he would take nearly as much punishment as Emilia. She decided it would be best to disable this creature quickly, before it could actually start hurting them. She wouldn't have to worry about it retreating too quickly, thanks to Mashyuu's barrier. She swung at Trauma after channeling Blunt Force into it and hit it in the arm, the impact driving itself straight to the bone to weaken it. The beast let out a growl of pain and turned its focus onto Emilia. Unable to use it's right arm properly, it turned and swung with its left. Dodging this was easy for Emilia, just like dodging an obvious haymaker. It was fast, though, had it been able to attack with both claws, Emilia wasn't so sure she would've been able to avoid the hit. She followed up with a strike to the torso of the creature. This thing was tough and seemed to be taking the hits rather easily, though. It was a good fight, and that brought a grin to Emilia's face. She backed off, leading the creature towards the entrance her and Mashyuu had come from. "Good to see something more challenging than those mongrels." She grunted as she barely deflected a claw swipe with her shield. She countered, striking the creature in the leg and taking it off balance a moment. She capitalized to swing upward at the creature's jaw. She figured she was dealing pretty decent damage to this beast, and at the very least, getting it pissed off at her so Mashyuu and Rocky could go to work on it.

Despite this creature's ferocity, Emilia was confident they would be able to defeat it without too much difficulty, given the fact the fight was three versus one. With attacks coming from all sides, it'd be difficult for it to attack even one of them, and practically impossible for it to defend against all but one of its opponents.

Like he expected, Emilia had gotten into position and laid a massive blow to the monsters arm to lead it away from the man on the ground. Swiftly he kipped up and raised his arms while looking the monster up and down. "Rocky, Go!" He ordered and watched as Rocky weaved in and out of the monsters legs to try and trip the giant up. While it didn't actually fall, the tactic managed to slow the monsters attack against Emilia down. Taking the chance to strike, Mashyuu rushed forward. Hammer in one hand he summoned up a pair of stone gauntlets around his arms. "Rock Gauntlets!" He called out then slammed a fist straight into the back of the monsters knee.

The monster started to fall to a knee when Rocky jumped up in a ball. From it's back spike jutted out from the Golem and sank deep into the massive creatures groin. It howled in pain before the spikes retracted into Rocky's body and the dog fell to it's feet and ran off to keep it's pace between and around the giant's legs.

Angered and annoyed, the creature swang it's left arm out with it's sharp claws at a high speed. Mashyuu tried to block the strike but unlike Emilia he was not armored. The claw dug into Mashyuu's side and slammed him into a near by wall. The brown haired Wizards blue eyes went wide as sudden pain he had never felt before rushed through him. He wasn't sure if his ribs were cracked or bruised but he knew they were injured. Blood seeped through his mothers brown jacket and anger flowed through Mashyuu as he brought his gauntleted fist down on the monsters left arm, causing enough damage to make the monster release Mashyuu. The Wizard fell to the floor and groaned in pain but managed to get himself up on steady legs.

Despite Emilia's rather viscious onslaught against the creature, it chose to target Mashyuu following his attacks, then again, he was on the side of its good arm, so it was probably just going for the closest thing it could actually hit with relative ease, given its currently crippled arm. Still, after toppling Mashyuu, it tried to strike her with its left arm as it had recovered somewhat from the stunning blow Emilia had dealt it. Emi seemed to pay it no heed, though a soft blue aura enveloped her as she channeled Redirection. Mashyuu would see the beast's claws rake across her helmet, face, and throat, but leave not so much as the slightest red mark on her skin or scratch on her armor. She shot a glance at Mashyuu as he was struggling to his feet. "Get up, whelp." She said coldly as she focused her attention back on her opponent.

Her grin only grew wider as she smashed the monster's face with Trauma, this time harder than any others before as she used the force of its own attack against it on top of her own. She struck again, empowering the mace with Power Play this time. This combined with Mashyuu and Rocky's attacks were able to bring the creature off of its feet and onto its knees. Emilia stepped on its left claw to hold it down as she raised Trauma to start beating it mercilessly, battering it down, unable to get up under her pummeling. Eventually its arms gave way and it collapsed, ceasing to move, with this happening faster should Mashyuu or Rocky lend a hand in attacking the stunned creature as it faltered.

Satisfied with her work, Emilia looked to Mashyuu. "You good?" She asked him, able to easily smell his blood now. While she questioned his condition, her voice showed no sympathy. It was cold and professional, a soldier asking another soldier if he was able to keep fighting.

Although Mashyuu was slow to get to his feet, the Wizard did manage to pull himself up and steady his breathing. Dark blue eyes narrowed just as he was about to strike but Emilia had already finished off the monster. A smile crossed his face and the man couldn't help but laugh at the woman and her skill. Even the tone of her voice showed that she only cared because she didn't want to carry his weight around. "Yeah, I'm good. Takes more than that to take me out." He responded but was honestly in more pain than he wanted to admit to.

Mashyuu snapped his fingers while lifting up his hammer and Rocky came running up to the Wizard happily. "Good job boy." He muttered then walked to join Emilia. His blue eyes glanced over at the woman and he couldn't help but smile at her. "You're strong.... Where did you learn to fight like that?" He asked as the stone wall came slipping back down into the ground to allow the trio to continue on their path.

Together the trio continued on, the walls of the halls seemed to get narrow and wide again at random intervals. Blood reeked in the air and Mashyuu could taste the iron in the area from the thick blood. "So where do you think the bodies of these guy's are? If the dogs were infected is it possible that the bodies of the workers and soldiers turned into one of those massive creatures you just killed?" Mashyuu wondered aloud.

The three adventurers stepped into a large square room with a door made of wood along each wall. Mashyuu whistled low while looking up at the ceiling that seemed to be raised some twenty feet into the air. Torches lined the corners of the walls and the floor had a strange carving of gas choking men in a thick cloud.

Emilia nodded approvingly as Mashyuu got back up. "Good, you took a decent hit. I'm glad you're tougher than you look." She said before stepping up to the wall, waiting for Mashyuu to lower it so they could pass. He commented on her strength, then asked where she learned to fight. "Dawn city." She answered, not going into specifics. The truth of the matter was that her parents ran a mercenary company there for a while. They and the others in the group were teaching her to fight basically before she could walk, and their methods weren't any sort of self-defense code of honor type, more of the brutally effective "win by any means" type. The nature of her magic also offered a significant boost to her physical strength, more than even the legendary Slayer magics. Then again, it made sense that one who worked with pure force would be stronger than one who focused on some element like fire or air.

The wall began to lower back down into the floor and Emilia continued on her way, keeping slightly ahead of Mashyuu. The scent of spilled blood was almost overwhelming to the woman, whose ancestry had granted her the uncanny ability to pick up even the smallest traces of its scent. She could practically taste it, and with that came the thirst, but she was able to suppress it, still, some of the glee that came with the bloodrage was there, making her grin in delight.

"Hmm... might be," She said. She didn't really care. "Or they could be shambling along like zombies, or just have gotten eaten." She shrugged. Whatever happened to them, she had good reason to believe that they wouldn't be going back home in anything but a body bag. Unfortunate, but that was life in this line of work.

They walked into a larger room now, with wooden doors and a high ceiling, and carvings of people being killed by what seemed to be toxic gas. Emi sighed. "This is probably a trap or something like that, for whatever reason people way back when they built these ruins liked to load them with traps. Never understood why, unless you designed the place to be a vault only for holding valuables." She went on. "Hell, I mean if they actually used to live here, it'd be a pain in the ass, having to move around all your traps, making sure company doesn't get caught in them. 'Oh, don't sit in that chair, chum, it's the one that release the nerve gas.' Pretty dumb if you ask me."

"Dawn City? Who taught you? Maybe I can get some tips there." Mashyuu asked while the pair continued on their path. She doesn't seem to talk much... Maybe it's my fault? I might be bugging her. The Wizard thought to himself. "I get the feeling you have a dry sense of humor." The Earth Slayer joked while continuing on until the trio got to the large room.

His blue eyes darted around the room while Emilia commented on the room they stood in. The Earth Wizard took a few steps into the room and looked around carefully. If there really was a trap Mashyuu didn't see it. His eyes went to the doors and just above them, running along the walls to scan for a pump or some sort of device that would put a poison or fog into the room. He didn't see anything that told him the room was trapped. "Could be a tile on the floor that triggers the trap but I don't see where the poison would vent from. If I built the place I would put it near the top to pour down fast. What do you think?" Mashyuu asked while holding his palm out to make sure that Rocky didn't step on anything that could set the trap off.

The Wizard dropped to a knee and touched the ground, feeling it carefully. "Can you exert force on the tiles slowly? I can feel movement in the ground so if a tile starts to shift I can let you know witch ones we should avoid. Or maybe you can fly or something?" Mashyuu asked. He felt concerned for Emilia, not because he thought she would get hurt but because he thought that if he messed this up he would be the reason she died.97 Rocky barked softly and nodded at Emilia. What the Wizards didn't know was that there were monsters lurking behind each door. Slowly the doors opened and the monsters attacked!

"My folks taught me, them and the other mercs they worked with. Been fighting since I could stand." She said, a hint of pride in her voice. "Not many of 'em left to teach, doubt they'd do it anyway." She snorted in response to his comment on her humor. "Tougher than you look and clever, eh?" She chuckled, amused with Mashyuu. Maybe this kid wasn't so bad, still, he wasn't really the type she'd want to spend time with on a regular basis. Too... honest. Never trust the honest ones, since you can never tell what they're going to do.

She and Mashyuu looked over the room. There indeed didn't seem to be anywhere for gas to flow in, though that could be concealed relatively easily. The kid asked where she thought they would put vents for the gas and she shrugged. "Dunno. There's plenty of options. Depends on if whatever gas they might be using rises or falls." 'Can you exert force on the tiles slowly?'

"Can I exert force slowly? Hah! Yeah no, I can't do that. I can hit hard and fast. I don't do gentle. No flying, but I might be able to launch myself to the other side." She said. One of the doors shuttered with an impact and Emi raised her weapon. "Looks like we've got company. Fall back, I don't wanna get caught by any traps in this place, let those things set 'em off." She said as she started to back off, extending her arm to try to push Mashyuu back with her. Despite any seemingly brutish behavior she had, Emilia wasn't one to blindly rush into a fight. She was a tactician, and didn't want to engage the enemy on ground she wasn't sure she could trust.

She'd make sure they were what she guessed to be a safe distance from the room before the monsters burst through the doors, rushing in and charging through the room after the wizards. With any luck, they would set off whatever traps there may be and be killed, or at the very least weakened, but nevertheless, Emilia stood ready in case they made it through.

Before Mashyuu knew it the woman had tugged him back to the front door and Rocky stepped in front of them to bark and defend it's master. The four dogs and the giant of a monster came lumbering at them rapidly. The dogs came first as the Wizards stood in a readied stance. "Alright...I'm ready..." Mashyuu swallowed a lump then hurled the hammer into the room. It hit a tile hard and a series of darts shot through the room, slamming into the dogs killing them on impact. "Well shit. That worked out well." Mashyuu said, half surprised about the development.

The Wizard shrugged his shoulders and watched as the hulk seemed to not be effected by the darts and continued towards the Wizards. Mashyuu almost groaned when the hulk continued on. Suddenly it's body lurched to the left as it's foot sank into the ground. Suddenly between all the tiles, a plume of smoke shot up and Mashyuu went wide eyed. Swiftly he reached past Emilia and pulled the door shut. "Cover your face." Mashyuu ordered and slipped his jacket off and started to tie the arms around his face, leaving only his eyes exposed as the monster lumbered to the door.

A few moments later the door the two were behind was ripped open and Mashyuu already had his finger aimed over Emilia's shoulder. "Rock Bullet!" He shouted and Rocky, without having to even be told, fired off a stream of sharp rocks right at the monsters face. Both attacks hit home and caused the hulk to stagger back a pace. "Emilia move!" He shouted, not wanting to be stuck in a hall with the monster and be pinned to something before it ate one of the Wizards. Instead he wanted to move, if the traps were already sprung then they could use the larger room to battle freely with the hulk.

The room was trapped, of course. All the rooms in ruins were always trapped for no good reason. People just loved their traps. Maybe that's why the only buildings with traps like this are ruins, because the people who built them love traps so much they killed themselves with them. Normally traps were a very large inconvenience, but today it seems, the duo was lucky, for the traps were doing their jobs for them. True, they had to make sure not to breathe in the poison gas, possibly neurotoxin or some equally unpleasant thing, well, unpleasant for organics. Mashyuu's rock dog could probably go in there and be just fine, hell he could probably take a bath in the stuff, put it on his food, rub it in his eyes. It's probably not deadly at all to him. He would likely find the whole thing funny. Emilia, Mashyuu, and this creature, on the other hand would probably find its deadliness a lot less funny.

The creature behind the door certainly was finding it a lot less funny as it bashed its way through, desperate to get out. As it was about to break through, Emilia ran forward, away from the door and readied herself for battle as the creature broke through. Between darts and neurotoxin, and a good solid hit from Mashyuu's rock bullets, it was really looking very much the worse for wear. She spun Trauma, extending the cable to about two feet long before rushing forward at the thing as it staggered backwards. As she swung, she empowered it with extra force and grinned in satisfaction as she heard what some might describe as a sickening crunch emanate from the creature's skull in response to the rather massive impact from Trauma. The creature was brought down to its knees by the blow, unable to stand. From there it probably would have collapsed and died on its own, but Emi needed to be sure. She swung Trauma around, above her head, then brought it down on the beast once more before reeling in the cable, and with one final horizontal swing, bashed the thing's head once more, leaving a sizable dent where it impacted the creatures already badly cracked skull. It convulsed as it fell the rest of the way to the ground. It wouldn't be getting up ever again.

She backed off from the door to the large room. "I think we might want to wait a bit before going in there. Who knows how long that poison will take to clear out?" She said, completely disregarding the presence of the now dead dogs and hunter.

True to fashion, Emilia rushed forward and took the fight to the massive hulk of a man. Her attack was as furious and lethal as anything the Earth Slayer had ever seen. She bowled the monster over, lifted her hammer and smashed it's face in until there was nearly nothing left of her targets skull. Mashyuu wasn't one to get sick from watching violence but seeing a skull caved in actually made the Earth Wizard puke where he stood.

"Yeah. You're right. A five minute break could be a good thing anyway. I have no idea how long we have even been down here." Mashyuu replied while shrugging his shoulders. The Wizard snapped at Rocky and spoke softly. "Hey, when the poison is gone bark o.k.?" The Earth Elemental yapped loudly as Mashyuu let the dog past and into the poisoned room. Once inside Rocky started to sniff around silently, exploring the contents of the room while Mashyuu leaned and slid down the wall across from Emilia.

His light blue eyes narrowed while he sniffed the air for a moment, the iron scent of blood was thick in the air, coating the floor and Emilia's weapon. "...Can you teach me to fight better?" The Earth Wizard asked while he ran his forearm over his head and wiped away the dampness that had been building up. "Ya know... I discovered my second magic in a place like this. Dead bodies and all... Not as trapped though." Mashyuu added shortly after.

A few moments later a soft barking came from the room and Mashyuu pulled himself up off the floor. "Well, lets go." He motioned for the woman to follow him and moved ahead. Mashyuu stepped back into the once poisoned room and he looked at the two remaining doors that hadn't been opened yet. "Are you any good at navigating these things or are we picking a door at Random?"

Emilia turned to Mashyuu and grinned as she saw him vomit at the sight of the mutilated creature in front of them. "Squeamish, eh?" She chuckled before walking over to lean against a wall. The dog would probably give them warning of something coming their way, either by barking or by trying to fight it, which would make quite a bit of noise. She rather liked the rock-mutt. It was kind of cute, and not half bad in a fight. She pulled a rather diminutive rag out of a small bag on her hip and used it to clean her weapon. Wouldn't want her hand slipping in the middle of a fight. It didn't get everything of course, but it did get off enough such that no significant amount would drip onto the handle. She nodded in satisfaction and tossed it on the ground.

"Teach you to fight better? Well the first step is not barfing at the sight of a little gore." She joked. "I could though, for the right price." Another grin came across her face. "Everything has a price, whether it's money, work, blood, or something else." He mentioned his second magic involved being in a place with a lot of corpses. That piqued her interest. Generally most magic didn't involve that, and those that did were somewhat down her alley in terms of what she wanted to practice. "What is your second magic?" She asked, curious. Perhaps she could figure out a good price for teaching this kid. An exchange: knowledge for knowledge. Martial prowess for magical skill.

Before Mashyuu had a chance to answer, Rocky gave the signal that the gas had cleared. She stepped into the room after Mashyuu and looked around. It seemed they had reached a crossroads. "Well you see, the trick to navigating places like these is to go this way." She said, walking to the door on the left. "And to always be on the lookout for traps, the sort that probably killed the original creators of this place when they got drunk or didn't get a good night's sleep." Of course, what she didn't tell him was that she had just gone in a pretty much random direction, following her gut as to which way to go, and the place where she could smell more blood, since more blood meant more fighting and death, which meant a greater likelihood to find the missing Rune Knights.

"No. I just don't like to kill. I've seen to much of it and at too young an age. It changes you, ya know?" Mashyuu responded to Emilia's comment about being squeamish. That crooked grin made Mashyuu grin back in an honest manner. It was amazing how he had already started to bond with the woman over combat and a sort of respect for what the other offered during this strange job.

Standing in the large room with Rocky Mashyuu followed Emilia to the room on the left and continued their talk as the trio continued on. "I can summon demons... Shadows. Ya know, the unholy and dark things deep in my soul. It is easy to call them fourth, but it can backfire if I show any sign of weakness. The payoff is worth it." Mashyuu continued as the pair came to a set of stairs winding down.

"Here, this is a good time to show you what it is I can do." Mashyuu took a deep breath of air and extended his hands away from his chest and aimed them down to the floor, palms out. Under him a dark shadow rose from the ground some three feet tall with deep red eyes, a sharp set of teeth and long arms. "Ohh Master! It's been a long while since you summoned me. What is it you want from the Dark One?" It asked while looking over to Emilia and smelling the death in the air. "You want me kill her? I need a weapon Master!" Mashyuu glanced at Emilia with a half smile, finding the little Dark One to be terribly funny.

"No. No Dark One. This is Emilia, she is a good fighter and a friend. I want you to go down the stairs and if there is anything that I would call dangerous come back and let me know. If the room is clear run around it and then come back to tell me what happens." The Dark One smiled wide and jumped up and down before melting into the shadows and vanishing...

The Dark One appeared in a narrow chamber, the stairs stood behind the creature and before it was only darkness. Mashyuu stood with his eyes closed, watching what the Dark One could see and he shook his head. "No good. It's pitch black down there. The monster can't see. Not without some sort of light. But the room is narrow. Barely enough room to swing your weapon... I should take point on this one." Mashyuu suggested and started down the stairs, ready to cast a spell if needed.

Emilia shrugged. "You get used to it." She said. True, that meant it changed her, but she didn't think it was for the worst. It's not like she was some deranged serial killer. In her opinion, the world needed people who were willing to kill, people willing to properly defend themselves and others. He could summon demons it seems, just what she needed. She chuckled. "Perfect. I have a proposal for you, then, once we're out of here. It involves unholy traits, though it's not solely demonic. Still, you're the closest thing I know of." She said.

She watched as Mashyuu summoned his dark one, and couldn't help but laugh at its thoughts of killing her. The thing could dream. "Quite the nice array of pets you've got there." She said as she watched it go. Apparently it was too dark for the thing to see. One would think it'd have some sort of dark vision, being called the Dark One. The room was too narrow to swing a weapon, so Emilia put her mace on her belt and slung her shield over her shoulder before drawing Valkyrie, her spear, and extending the handle to its maximum length. "Don't need to swing this one." She said, moving onward, walking past Mashyuu. "If this place is so narrow, I won't be able to do much unless I'm up front. I kind of lack in the range department."

That was part of the reason why she was so good at fighting really. She focused on melee combat over everything else, and everything her magic did went into enhancing that. True, she knew how to use ranged weapons, but they didn't benefit from her magic at all. The fact that she'd trained with a variety of weapons practically since she could walk also helped. She wondered idly if the kids she had practiced on when she was in grammar school had any lasting scars from her training. More than a few probably had crooked noses like her own.

She walked down the narrow corridor, her spear pointed in front of her. In this narrow of a space, not much would be able to get past its deadly point without getting skewered.

"What could you possibly want with unholy traits? Planning on using some sort of Demon Take Over magic?.... Please say no to that." Mashyuu asked and tagged on the end of his question when he thought about how strong Emilia already was and what she might be willing to do in order to gain more power. "They aren't pets. Rocky came to me, wanting to help me save a village. The Dark One here is.... part of me. My literal shadow." He responded swiftly, every time the creatures came out of his soul, the man became a bit snappy.

Mashyuu started to grumble when he thought about why the Dark One couldn't see in the dark. He eventually glanced back at Emilia and felt that he needed to explain things to her. "The Room is Magically enchanted with darkness, otherwise the creature should be able to see. We need to be on our guard." His light blue eyes glanced down at the woman as she pulled out a spear after putting her mace and shield away. It was impressive how she seemed to be always ready for any sort of combat, aside from ranged. But Mashyuu and Rocky could actually handle that for the most part. While Emilia was a much more melee oriented fighter, the Earth Slayer had become a robust fighting machine.

Emilia pushed down the stairs past Mashyuu and led the way to the dark, narrow corridor. A strange pitch blackness going on for what seemed like forever. "Hey there Master! Look at how long the hall is!" The Dark One ran into the darkness, it's small body vanishing... The creature was gone for a long moment, Mashyuu could feel his heart stop beating out of fear for his shadow when it appeared at his side after teleporting. "I not get halfway across the room!" Mashyuu patted the creature on the head and half smiled. "Good job. Get rest." He said to the monster and dismissed the spell, allowing the Dark One up to become his shadow once again.

Emilia grinned at Mashyuu's question. Why would she want to use unholy magic? Why wouldn't she? "Let's just say it's a family tradition. Being mercs, we've got close ties to death. Why not take it a step further?" She chuckled. "And no demon takeover. Like I said, it's not exactly demonic. Undeath would fit the description a bit better." It was true. Demons could be killed without too much difficulty, or at least their bodies could be killed. Those practicing the magic she hoped to learn had bodies more like the undead. They simply didn't die, or at least not easily. They could keep going with the most grievous of injuries, sustained themselves off of the death surrounding them. A warrior who, even after being thoroughly eviscerated could get up and laugh as she cut down those who opposed her.

She had tuned Mashyuu out for a bit, but snapped back when he explained the next room had magical darkness. "Right, magical darkness. Guess I'll have to follow my nose." She grinned. "Hope you're good at fighting blind." She said before striding forward, spear lowered in front of her, ready to thrust forwards at a moment's notice. She was enjoying this job quite a bit. Her last few involved fighting various mercs and criminals, things that were smart enough to use guns on her. She disliked having guns fired at her. These beasts, on the other hand, were straightforward. They charge at her, try to claw her, she bashes and stabs them, everyone has a good time. Well, more like they have a bad time and she has a good one, and Mashyuu does whatever it is he does. Throw rocks and throw up it seemed. At least he could throw rocks pretty well, and his dog seemed to have a good, strong bite. She pressed on, ready for whatever they may face next.

"I'll teach you what I know... Just promise me you will be careful with the magic. It can be dangerous.... Hard to maintain control if you don't use it right." Mashyuu responded to Emilia's comment about the dark magic she wanted to learn. Over all it would be a fair trade to learn some more combat skills in trade for teaching her his dark magic.

Mashyuu only smiled and tried to not laugh when she asked if he could keep fight in the dark. "Hehehe, yeah. I'm actually really good blind. Better nose and ears. It's easy for me to fight in the dark." Mashyuu boasted while Emilia took the lead. The Earth Slayer followed behind her while Rocky trailed even further behind. Mashyuu's heart beat hard in his chest. So far the group had some straight forward fights but nothing to crazy. That was when he heard it...

Mashyuu placed his hand on Emilia's shoulder and whispered softly. "There is something up ahead. I can hear it walking. It sounds heavy. Smells dead too. Be careful." Mashyuu warned Emilia then continued to speak. "Can you put up an armor around yourself? Or would you like me to take the lead on this? The hall is cramped. If you want I'll stand by with a ranged spell but it could hit you too in such a small space."

At the other end of the hall was a hulking monster of death and destruction. It lumbered over ten feet tall and each arm it had was the size of Mashyuu. Acidic drool fell from the monsters mouth. When the Wizards entered the hall it knew that prey had entered it's den, and like those that had come before the hulking brute was going to kill the Wizards.95 It lumbered towards the trio, hands dragging on the ground as it neared and prepared for a deadly charge...

"I'll be careful. I'm always careful with my weapons." Emilia replied. It was true. She tried to avoid collateral damage if possible. What good was a merc that half destroyed the place you were trying to protect or capture? She nodded approvingly in response to her question of fighting in the dark. "Good, and yeah, I can smell it too. Old blood, seems like it's got gangreen." She grinned. Whatever this thing was, it was big, probably another one of the creatures they had fought before. She wasn't too worried about it. They had dispatched them earlier without too much difficulty, and this thing would have more issue fighting in the close quarters than they would. "I'll keep point. You start moving back now. Only place to dodge is backwards, so I'll need space to maneuver." She moved her spear to aim it down the hallway and squinted, concentrating on where the creature was. "Don't worry too much about hitting me. I can take it. Just give me a warning before you do."

Emilia heard the footsteps of the beast coming closer, as well as the sound of its claws dragging on the ground. It was definitely one of the things they had killed earlier. With the press of a button, the blade fired from her spear. She could hear the sound of it plunging into the flesh of the creature in front of them. Exactly where she hit, though, she wasn't sure. The blade of her spear reformed as the creature continued its charge. She braced herself, ready to thrust forward and impale the beast as it tried to strike. She had a fair bit of reach, and could probably duck under the creature's first attack to give it a good stab. She was also prepared to cast Redirection in case that didn't work, which would allow her to absorb and throw back some of the damage it would deal.

"Back it is then..." Mashyuu said slowly and started to back up, each one of his steps softly echoed as the man and dog vanished in the magical darkness. Mashyuu could hear his allies spear launch into the darkness and for sure heard the monster cry out in terrible pain for a moment before it rushed forward. For a moment Mashyuu's body locked up with what he could only call true terror for whatever that thing was. Mashyuu steeled his mind and reached out. "Don't move!" From his right arm, a crackle of electricity ran through him and launched forward, striking the monster hard. He wasn't sure if the monster even felt the jolt as it appeared before Mashyuu and Emilia and aimed it's massive claw towards the woman in front.

"I'm going to try and flank it!" Mashyuu stated so that Emilia knew that he would be giving her some more space to move around with. He stepped to her side and transformed into a bolt of hot electricity before he jumped over both Emilia and the monsters shoulder and landed behind it. Mashyuu wasn't sure what he was doing, or if he could even hurt the massive beast but it didn't matter. He wasn't about to let Emilia take this thing on by herself. Mashyuu snarled at the monster, his draconic sense taking over for a moment as he lashed out with a series of claws that barely dug into the monsters flesh and did no damage at all. "Ahh shit." Mashyuu swore to himself before the monster twisted to swing at him. Luckily Mashyuu was faster than the creature was and he was able to dodge the attack.

Swiftly Mashyuu flipped backwards and landed a few feet away while keeping his palm on the ground. If it gets close I'm gonna wack it with a staff.... I hope. Mashyuu thought to himself and swallowed hard. In the magical darkness he couldn't see Emilia but knew he could take a hit from her if she somehow missed the beast.
