It seemed Magna wasn't the only one surprised by Aegis' use of Kaya's terminology. Jin too had found it surprising. Kaya however seemed overjoyed. The scene of her running about, Aegis standing there so tall and the laughter from Jin made him laugh as well. The scene was perhaps marred a bit by the corpses and blood that surrounded them, but it was still funny. Or perhaps they were just laughing out of relief? After all, anything was better than focusing on the horror around them. However, his laughter stopped when he heard the explanation or lack of one about Iza's own magic. Glacier God Slayer. From his journies he'd heard of dragon slayers and heard that two other slayer types existed. Those that existed to slay demons and those who wielded their element to slay the very god's themselves. It was a magic he'd doubted existed. How could one kill a god? It just didn't make sense. However, here she was proclaiming herself as one of their number. One specializing in ice no less.  He wasn't sure exactly how to react to it so he decided to ever so slightly change the topic.

"So it seems all three of us can use coldness in one way or another. I bet we can come up with some amazing recipes with our magic as the ingredients." he said with a smile. Yes, now that he had said that and moved the conversation on he didn't feel bad about her magic or negative towards it. It had just caught him off guard. However, the possibilities of that magic combined with his and Jin's were vast. He'd heard once of a lake whose deepest dwelling inahabitants emitted some sort of of chemical that turned the lake into a natural, rich and creamy soup stock. It even warmed it slightly. It was said that in that pond a mythical creature resided, one that was rare and sought after yet impossible to catch. However, one day the lake had frozen over and the fish was caught. He'd tried fish supposedly caught from that lake and it was indeed delicious though he'd never managed to visit the lake himself. He had a fondness for fish in his cuisine and the ability to freeze a lake and thus fish out further into it was invaluable. HE didn't have that kind of power and he doubted Jin or Iza had, but together...it might just be possible.

Before he had too long to dwell on this thought however there was the sound of a loud roar and suddenly from a pile of rubble one of the large scaled creaturest burst fourth. As it charged towards them from the amongst the corpses of the dead emerged four more of the infected dogs.  Their edge was their speed  and their numbers. Magna suddenly moved swiftly around the group so that he was first in line with the approaching creatures. As they got in range he used one of his newly devised spells. "King sleep Fragrance." From his hand a smoke-like mist was launched that was 10m wide and covered a distance of 30m. As the dogs entered this cloud they inhaled it and yawned once before all falling down sleeping. The larger creature however was not put to sleep and charged through it like it was nothing. However, as it charged its speed did slow somewhat.

"Whatever you do don't breathe in the mist." Magna warned as he threw himself to the side to avoid the charging creature. Aegis however did not have that particular issue and threw himself straight at the creature going for a powerful headbutt. The creature however was not stunred by the blow, even in its less alert state, as Aegis had hoped and he himself was thrown back.

"Its heavier and bigger than the last one." he said as he rose to his feet using his axe shaft as a prop. The creature, after sending Aegis flying, did in fact stop. It turned back and fourth quickly between the targets before lunging at what it thought was the weakest. Kaya.

Izayuki Hyoujin ♦ Rank C ♦ Black Rose ♦ Glacier God Slayer

Jin and Magna both seemed surprised at Aegis. Was he normally not like that? Well, it seemed that Izayuki was getting to know him in a different way. She did not mind that. Their armored comrade seemed fun in a way, despite being somewhat more of an introvert, if she could put her finger on personalities.
Iza froze at Jin's mention of her aura for a heartbeat, however. It was good he mentioned it, but just the knowledge of her freezing aura and what it had turned her into was something of, not a wakeup call, but just a small reminder. She needed to be careful. Not with them- Kvasir was fine. It was herself. She had to keep that in check.

She quickly attempted to cover up the small pause of her's with that familiar casual and cheery smile in response to their average comments on her magic. They all could use the cold? That would really come in handy for their team. She was about to reply with something simple when the enemy made an appearance again, and as usual, Magna was the first to snap into action.

Mist? Judging by the state the dogs were in, Izayuki could only guess it did the same for people, or at least hindered them to a fair degree. She was more focused on avoiding it than anything else at that moment. Once making sure that she was at a safe distance from the mist and realizing what had happened to Aegis, Iza watched as it leaped for Kaya, a seemingly helpless target. Doing what she could, the young mage used the first thing that came to mind. "Koorutomo," she murmured, extending her hand towards the ground, generating a large tiger made of ice. As soon as it had been formed in the matter of an instant, their new frozen friend took it's own leap, aiming to pin down the scaled creature that was intent on hurting their chibi sabertooth companion.

For a moment, the group forgot about the scene that was all around them. They were soon brought back to the grim reality with the appearance of more foes. Team kvasir leaped into action and Magna using a spell that Jin had never seen before, put the dogs to sleep. Another unusual thing happened that Jin had never witnessed before, Aegis’s power wasn’t sufficient to take down a foe. Usually, the veteran warrior had little trouble dealing with his opponents. Regardless, the creature survived a strong blow and headed straight for Kaya. Probably thinking that she was the weakest among the group, Jin could probably argue that in terms of physical strength; she might be the strongest. Well, her current looks didn’t show that though, so he couldn’t really blame the mindless monster.

Thanks to Magna’s warning, both Jin and Kaya had held their breaths to keep them from getting effected. The range of Magna’s spell was formidable, realizing this Jin decided it would be best to get out of it and lure the creature out as well. Due to Izayuki’s attack that hit the creature from the side and managed to put him down for the count, Jin and Kaya were able to get out of the smoke. However, the attack from the ice tiger was not enough as the creature got up and headed for Kaya once more. ”Finally!” said Kaya as she smiled and slowly her size began to increase as the creature got closer. The closer it got, the slower it got as it witnessed the chibi tiger alter its form. From a small cute and cuddly creature, the legendary beast appeared. No longer was she adorable in any way unless one had some twisted concept for cuteness. She pounced on to the creature, who retaliated by aimlessly swinging and slightly bruising her. The attack wasn’t enough to do any noticeable damage though, so Kaya bit into the creatures shoulder and tore apart its arm. Blood gushed out of it and on to the ground below as the creature shouted in pain. She turned to ask for Jin’s approval before she would do what she intended to. Jin would never approve that but he didn’t disagree that the creature deserved to die. He looked away and Kaya understood what that implied. She swung her large claw sending the creature flying to quite distance, dealing the final blow.

It would most likely not die but the torn arm was one thing that could not be undone. Team Kvasir had yet again emerged victorious. Kaya roared the famous roar of a lion as declaration of victory. Was this really the end for the monsters though?

Kaya's true form had been unleashed when the, rather impressive, ice tiger hadn't been enough to bring down this creature. It was honestly quite surprising as the tiger had been, as said earlier, rather impressive. Perhaps these creatures had a resistance to cold magic? They were quite heavily armored after all. Perhaps that protected them from it. Either way it didn't matter as the tiger's true power had been too much for it and brought it down. Kaya was rather vicious in her true form, but also very impressive. Just as Magna was about to suggest they proceed to go look into the ruins two more of the infected hounds charged at them. Foolishly though they decided to go straight through Magna's fog cloud. They managed to get through a lot of the fog running by running very fast, but as they leaped upwards to attack Magna they fell asleep and slumped down. It was fortunate that the fog lasted as long as it did. The unconciousness of them wouldn't last forever, but it was useful for the time being.

"We should get moving before they wake up or worse...before more turn up." Magna said looking at the group. There was no sense in them waiting for the knock out gas that was the king sleep fragrance to wear off. It would be foolish beyond belief. A recipe for disaster. "Nice going with that ice tiger by the way. Maybe I should get you to make some sculptures for my next banquet." Magna said with a grin. It would be useful to some extent in them bonding if they could help eachother in their respective jobs. It was one of the ways Magna and Jin became as close as they did because they worked together in the kitchen with Magna teaching Jin the ropes. He'd improved a lot since they first met and the training had even honed Magna's own skills to some extent.

"If this is what is outside the ruins though...I dread to think what's inside." Magna said apprehensively as he headed around his fog cloud to begin heading towards the ruins. Aegis walked behind him though he seemed to be observing Kaya to some extent as if confirming something within his own mind. Magna was curious as to what it was. Was it to do with his own technique?

Her ice tiger's failure normally would have resulted in her being a tad disappointed. However, whatever mystical beings that controlled fate were out there, they could be thanked for putting Kaya in a battle mood for Iza to be able to witness the amazing transformation. She was wrong. Kaya did not turn into a giant chibi like she had initially thought. Rather, she was a fearsome realistic saber tooth tiger who brutally and ruthlessly had torn apart their opponent. The young Mage has to admit that she was impressed. Never before had she seen such an awesome sight. Witnessing the short and bloody battle, Izayuki grinned as she watched Kaya give that victorious roar. Her Koorutomo ice tiger returned to her side, expressionless like most animals as one might expect, but ready to leap into the fray again if another enemy decided to appear.

The girl shot a proud and content smile in Magna's direction at his praise. If scultures? She had never thought of such a business, but had to admit that it would be something she could do sometime to get that extra jewel in. Unfortunately ice melted after a while. That was the only downfall. The topic reverted back to the grim subject and reality all around them soon enough, however, and Iza gave a solemn nod as she took a step towards the ancient ruins opening. Just when would they stop coming? Well, not anytime soon. More infected beings approached. But this time there was a human among two more dogs. Somehow that itself was far more horrifying than the dogs and weird scales creatures. Hiding a passionate rage on the inside towards that unknown factor that has caused this, the ice tiger leaped into action again, instantly pinning the human down with a loud growl. It was still 'alive' but unable to move. As for the dogs, they began rushing the team instantly. While one headed towards Magna, wanting to avoid the scary roaring feline, Izayuki dashed into action herself; running towards the other dog that was aiming a leap at her. Jumping up to meet it, she managed to avoid its jaws and give it one heavy punch to the head, throwing it to the side a few feet and killing it instantly. She has no mercy or sympathy for such a creature. It did not matter if it was canine. It was causing destruction and she would not let a being only meant for such mindless destruction live on like that.

The foes just kept coming one after the other. More dogs and some strange decaying humans also made their appearance. Magna disposed off a few and Izayuki dealt with another and that still left some dogs and some decaying humans unattended. Four more dogs also appeared adding into the total fray. It was about time for Jin to step into the battle and make a difference. Until now, his friends had been doing the hard work and he didn’t have to do much. Kaya too had taken out a strong creature but Jin so far had accomplished nothing. So he charged ahead this time instead of waiting for either of the other two black rose mages to step ahead. The slow moving humans were easy targets since Jin was speedy and in addition to that, he used his magic to give himself a speed boost. He got close to one of them and struck his knee to his stomach, chopping the neck as the foe bend over for the knockout blow. Another one came closer to him, lunging in a straight punch. With some swift movements, he grabbed the arm and flung the guy over his shoulders onto the ground and delivered a kick to the face; knocking the second infected human as well. ”This decaying scent and strange motor skills. Are they already…. Dead?”.

Kaya too leaped into action and pounced on top of one of the remaining two humans. Her weight was enough to crush him and make him fall, she jumped on top of the individual a few times to make sure he was done for. The last remaining one got close to Jin and struck a blow to his back. They were slow in their movements but nowhere near weak in their attacks. The blow was as strong as Jin was capable of so it hurt like hell. He didn’t take time to recuperate and allow himself to be struck twice though. He turned and used a text book tackle to take down the foe and punched his lights out. Having seen Jin move and do some good damage, the dogs decided to gang up on him too. ”Just my luck”, he thought as the dogs charged ahead at him. Kaya arrived to save the day though as a dog got painfully close to Jin. She swung her paw and sent the little dog flying quite a few yards away. ”Heat wave!”, Jin used his heat spell to generate a heat wave as he swung his right fist aimed at the two dogs who had just gotten close to him. The dogs got burnt and took some damage but not enough to knock them out. They charged in once more only to receive a stronger blow which knocked them out.

Jin had received a painful blow to his back but in a series of events, he rushed in and took on all of the foes this time. Not a smart move on his part but he just wanted to help out his friends. And when doing that, he never considered his own safety. ”Alright then, let’s go inside. I’m not sure if the ones here make up for all of the lost ones”. They couldn’t exactly formulate a total number of dead individuals since the bodies were not in a shape to be counted.

Jin had finally made his move and using his skill and power combined with a bit of luck he managed to bring down the remainder of the enemies. Well, with a bit of help from Kaya and Iza. So far it seemed that the team known as Kvasir, even with a new member, still worked together as an excellent team. It was almost as if they were all special ingredients that no matter how they mixed together would result in a delicious recipe for success. It was quite beautiful in a way and that beauty was only highlighted when thought about in contrast to the bloody battlefield that surrounded them.

As Jin suggested going into the ruins Magna nodded and spoke. "I doubt it is. Pretty sure that the job fly said that the rune knights got into the ruins at least before communication was lost." he said but then thought about everything that surrounded them. That meant all of the people nearby were not rune knights, but just ordinary people. Perhaps just trying to seek a living when all the terrible stuff that happened went down. Probably those dogs did a lot of damage and if that was possible they needed to hurry. "Let's get inside before the dogs wake up. King sleep doesn't last too long as far as I remember." However, as they headed into the ruins Magna paused as an idea came to his mind.

"You lot ok or do you need some of those injuries taken care of?" he asked. He had a few healing spells up his sleeve now and was happy to use them to keep this team fighting fit. Fortunately, Magna himself hadn't received much damage. Aegis had, but sadly Magna's healing spells wouldn't work on him. Then again it was only his top layer armor that was damaged. So he was sure Aegis would be fine. "How about you big guy? Still fighting fit?"

"As fit as can be expected. No healing needed here Magna." Aegis replied, which was probably one of the longest string of sentences he'd said out loud in response to anything Magna said. Aegis was just full of surprised today.

Izayuki Hyoujin ♦ Rank C ♦ Black Rose ♦ Glacier God Slayer

After she had put an end to one dog and ensured her ice tiger had killed the other one- noting that it returned to her with blood on its teeth and claws, Izayuki turned to her companions. Her new team was very strong together. She never would have been able to take on such odds by herself. But with Kvasir, it seemed rather easy even in the harsh reality of the situation and scene. Allowing the dark ice tiger to dissolve and disperse, the young mage followed after her two teammates who were heading for the ancient ruins. They were very strong fighters- she quietly admired their skill in battle and their power. Could she perhaps reach that strength and level one day? Or could she go beyond it? Maybe they could help her. If so, it was easily a step closer to her goal. And that was something she needed. In a way, it was one of the few reasons she had joined the guild, Black Rose.

Shifting her focus to the present, Izayuki shook her head. She had been roughed up a bit from the sudden and fast-paced battle, but with them working together she had not sustained many injuries. "I'm fine~" the girl said with a smile in response to the slightly younger teen. She was already ready to move on into the ruins themselves. Many had died here, and hopefully the team could successfully lock onto the source and cause of devastation there and set things right. That was what they had been hired to do, after all. There was no telling what was in store for Kvasir inside, but Iza was already trying to make her way in, ready for the next thing. The air smelled clearly of sickness and death, at least to her keen senses but likely to anyone around as well. She could only guess for what waited for them deep inside the crumbling stone walls.

Thanks to the stunt he pulled, his back was injured but not that gravely. ”I think I’ll be okay”, he replied stretching a little to deal with the pain. He had been in worst conditions before, compared to those this was nothing. Kaya now returned to her normal size and climbed aboard Jin’s shoulder as the group entered the ruins. The report said a lot of people were missing and even a group of Rune knights came to find these missing people. The search party too ended up getting lost without any contacts. Now this group of Black Rose mages entered the ruins in hopes of finding some trace of the lost souls. The scene that awaited them was nothing like the one they had just seen. It was far too gruesome. At least there were some form of bodies outside, inside the ruins there were just pieces and lots of blood all around. It was like some creature tore apart human bodies. The internal organs were scattered and blood was all over the walls and the ground. The stench was awful, Kaya could barely breathe. Jin didn’t have that advanced a sense of smell but even he couldn’t bare the smell.

A lot of weapons were lying around the place. It was safe to assume that the Rune knights made it this far but neither of them survived to tell the tale. He looked at Magna and then at Izayuki, what were they going to do from here on out? They had little to no clue to what had happened. They had no idea of the missing individuals. It could be said that all of them were no longer alive but Jin just wouldn’t accept that. What if some lucky individual survived and was just waiting for them to come rescue him? Obviously, he wasn’t going to abandon the search but for now, the only report he could give was a grim one. “No trace of life so far”

    The End?
