Missing Stolen Jewelry(Job, Rei & Jin)

Rei looked around, back in Hargeon Town again. She had been here not so long ago on a different job, last time with someone else, this time, with Jin Okura. Supposedly Jin was a rising start within Black Rose's ranks, Rei had little to no idea what that meant. To her, being a mage was simply a means of survival: she knew nothing else, nor what it really meant to be a mage in a guild. She had been released out into the general populace only recently after being confined for two years as a six year old. Now the eight year old girl had become a mage to survive even though she refused to use her fearsome magic. Could she even use that magic? It wasn't an answer she was willing to find out, nor wanted the answer to. 

That was why Jin was here of course, it was technically his job, but she had asked him if she could tag along. She was happy he had agreed and was getting along pleasantly with him and his pet Kaya. At first, she had been fearful that she wouldn't find anyone to get along with, but so far she had only met good hearted people who gladly took her under their wing and helped whenever she asked. Often times, she didn't even have to ask- yet no one else ever questioned her about her past or her magic, why this was when she was constantly doing mage jobs and not using her magic, was anyone's guess. Inwardly, Rei knew it was only a matter of time until she was forced to face her darkness though. Rei thinks this is the place Niichan.

Rei twirled on the street in her cute little black frilly dress and umbrella as she shielded her delicate skin from the sunlight. There were a few people around, but Jin had told her they were looking for someone specific to learn the needed information on the track the "lost" jewelry.

'Monster Dice' :

”Kawai!!!” shouted Kaya as Rei walked ahead of Jin. Jin didn’t know how to interpret Kaya’s latest actions but he had learned to let her be. She was a riddle that he couldn’t solve even after living with her for such a long time. Jin and Kaya had done plenty of jobs with plenty of different mages. They were now even part of a team and got along well with this team. Rei was a new member to the guild and was also a part of their team. Ever since Kaya had laid eyes on Rei, she couldn’t stop blabbering about how cute Rei was. ”Kaya, you’re gonna make her feel awkward” said the concerned Black Rose mage. He didn’t want Rei to feel uncomfortable around him, they had only begun to know one another.

When Jin had decided early this morning to leave for the job, he felt bad for going on it by himself. Probably seeing that, Rei had opted to go along with him. He would never refuse such a generous offer to be accompanied by a friend. After having the beloved red velvet cake the two had departed and after covering quite the distance had arrived at Hargeon town. In accordance to the job description, they were supposed to find a certain street urchin who could provide them the required information. The two had been walking in town for a while now, looking for that certain street urchin. ”Are you sure, Rei-chan?” he said heading towards the individual she had pointed out. Kaya bit into his shoulder as she rode on top of it, ”Rei-chan said it, so this is the place! Ya meanie!!”. After that she pounced off of Jin’s shoulder and ran off to Rei’s side. She had been quite rebellious ever since she had laid eyes on Rei. Jin didn’t mind though, Kaya had always been quite bratty. Despite that, she was a reliable friend and ally.

”Hello, we’re black rose mages. Have you heard of some missing jewelry recently?” he inquired from the Street Urchin. The man shook his head, stating that he hadn’t heard of them recently. Jin turned towards Rei and shook his head, ”He’s not it Rei-chan”. Their search had only begun, in a large town such as this. How would they end up finding this one street urchin who would tell them about the missing jewels? Only luck could manage something of the sort. Despite the odds, the two wouldn’t stop now. They were here to do a job and that’s what they were going to do.

Rei had pointed someone out she had thought looked like someone who might know something about their job, but who knew. Rei had been looking around, she hadn't really noticed the little playful drama between Jin and Kaya. The little sabertooth had hopped off of Jin's shoulder and then sauntered over to Rei's side as she twirled on the street sidewalk. The little sabertooth stood close to her, Rei kneeled down and rubbed Kaya's ears affectionately as Jin questioned the man who apparently knew nothing of stolen jewelry. Rei frowned slightly and slowed her rubbing of Kaya's ears momentarily. She stood up and picked Kaya up like a teddy bear and followed after Jin who was already looking for a new civilian to investigate.

After getting close enough, Rei sat Kaya down again and walked behind Jin like a little sister would when admiring her big brother. She held her umbrella close, all those people looking at her like she was weird for using an umbrella during a dry and hot day. They just didn't understand how delicate her pale skin was, nor how sharp and painful the harsh bright rays hurt her sensitive eyes. They chanced across another man, he too knew nothing about what they wanted: this was starting to become taxing work!

Kaya was being all cute and cuddly with Rei, while their search for a street vendor continued. ”She must be frustrated as I am” he thought looking at Rei from the corner of his eye. She had a lady like touch to her despite her young age. That’s how Jin felt anyways, her skin was so sensitive that even on a sunny day she needed an umbrella. He found that to be very cute and thus he had a scary kind of grin for people who stared at her for longer than necessary. Jin wasn’t leading the way, he walked beside her like friends should. Despite his rank as an Ace and the title he was bestowed by the magic council, he wasn’t boastful about it. All of his friends had noticed no change in his personality even as he grew stronger.

After yet another encounter with a street urchin proved useless, he stopped and looked at Rei. ”Rei, let’s get something to eat shall we? We’ll continue to search for the urchin after that”, there was no need to rush it. The jewelry was already gone, it’s not like they were preventing it from getting stolen. They just had to do a lot of searching and doing that on a empty stomach would have been the cause for more frustration. ”I-sama is hungry too!”, Kaya royally declared her hunger. Being petted by Rei and having acquired her attention, she was quite happy about it. That was probably the reason why she used ‘sama’ after ‘I’. ”Hai hai, let’s go find a good place to eat” he said looking around. He noticed a restaurant nearby and decided to lead Rei there.

The two would sit at the table and Jin would wait for Rei to place her order after asking for a red velvet cake. The cake that he loved to eat the most. He also ordered some refreshments for the two since they had been walking around for a little while. A little rest wouldn’t hurt much, would it?

Another strike out, she had been sure they would have gotten a lead by now... but it wasn't so. She was a little irritated, the sun was bright and reflected on the light pavement too easily. She was squinting, but smiled to make it look like a cheerful expression. That expression truly did become cheerful when Jin offered they take a reprieve to eat. Rei agreed, she was hungry and all to eager to get out of the sun for a bit. She began to walk behind Jin, but he eased back and walked beside her, lowering his pace to match those of little Rei's. She noticed this of course but wouldn't say anything, her big brother was a kind and caring one. 

They would go inside the food place and sit at a booth where they could watch others, or at least Rei could. She was always observant of others and their surroundings even if she pretended to be in a blissful innocence. Rei will have some spaghetti please. She stated politely, showing that she possessed proper manners and ordered a cold glass of milk. She was a growing girl and needed milk to fortify her bones, especially after the last two years. After their order was delivered, Rei would take Jin for the food and take a couple of bites. She fed Kaya a bite or two and then pointed to another individual at the table across from them. Maybe that mister can help answer our questions?

The ordered food arrived and the two began to eat. Kaya who was usually a meat eater delightfully ate whatever Rei offered her. Jin could remember Kaya fighting with Fira if she ever asked to serve her anything other than meat. He couldn’t say it out loud but this was certainly outrageous. Nevertheless, they had other important matters to attend to so he didn’t allowed that to get to his head; at least for now. Jin took a bite from his beloved sweet cake as Rei mentioned another individual. Jin nodded and got up to talk to the man.

”Hi there, I’m Okura Jin from Black Rose” he said introducing himself to another street urchin. ”That Rising star Okura Jin?” inquired the man with a raised eye brow. Once again, Jin’s reputation as a Rising star came in handy. Sadly though, when he inquired about the jewels, there was no information. ”So you too don’t know about those jewels?” he said once again, the man was now being annoyed. Jin couldn’t help it, they had been searching for a while. Also, he didn’t like the fact that Rei had to walk around in the bright sun. Even though she had an umbrella, she would still be annoyed by the sun and Jin didn’t like that. May be he could use his heat magic to cool things down for her. Being a heat manipulation mage, temperature differences didn’t mean much to him. If it was scorching hot or freezing cold, both were almost the same for him.

He returned and sat down at his seat again and picked up his spoon. Shaking his head he told Rei that he wasn’t the guy either. ”It’s frustrating isn’t it?” he inquired from Rei as he looked a bit worried. He was indeed troubled if his little friend was being frustrated by their search so far. Come to think of it, Jin hadn’t known Rei for long. He didn’t know how she would react in this kind of a frustrating job. He only hoped that the two would continue to work along with one another. So far, he perceived her to be a kind and cute little girl with a good heart. The fact that she attended to Kaya and gave her attention hinted him of her true warm nature. Like his other friends, she too was a gentle person or so he believed her to be.

'Monster Dice' :

Rei loved little Kaya, the chibi sabertooth was so affectionate and playful, capable of speech and independent action. Unlike people, the sabertooth was true to its nature and very honest- even if in a blunt and sometimes defiant way. Rei didn't need to use her eyes to study and learn to understand her like she did the others: everyone else hid their true feelings and thoughts with unnecessary words. Rei appreciated the simple joy of Jin's little companion. She continued to eat and feed Kaya while Jin got up and talked to the man, Rei could hear bits and pieces of the conversation, but she could tell by the look on Jin's face that it was a useless conversation- one that the stranger didn't really appreciate either. She sighed as Jin returned, a short little sigh, but Jin had noticed it.

Rei is a little frustrated, but Rei has spent longer times in more unpleasant places. This is bearable. she said in a reassuring and confident way to boost Jin's spirits. Rei had finished her food by now and waited for Jin to finish as she drink her cup of milk, she drank most of it and then poured he rest into a saucer and let Kaya drink the remainder milk. Kaya is a growing girl too! she thought to herself, knowing milk was a good source for growing children. After they would leave the dining place, Rei would walk up to a passing stranger and ask in an innocent way about any peculiar jewels being shipped or sold recently.

'Monster Dice' :

After finishing up with the red velvet cake and a refreshing trick, they were back to the search again. Rei went ahead and asking another passerby. The man looked strangely at Rei; before he could answer Jin followed up to her and stood behind her. The man raised an eye brow and looked at Jin then he simply answered to Rei and left. ”Strange people” he thought finding the expressions of the individual to be a bit disturbing. Regardless, there was no harm done and their search still continued. When the individual went off, Jin patted her head and smiled: ”Well, as long as we’re together. It should be fine, right?”. He was tall and she had an umbrella open so he had to bend over to look at her straight in the eyes.

When Rei had mentioned something about her spending a lot of time in unpleasant places, Jin could hardly hide his concern. She was only a child and for a child to have such a testing past. However, he didn’t want to push her or force her in any way to tell him about it. If it was awful, it would be better off left alone. ”If she has such a horrible past, then we just have to make sure she has more pleasant memories from now on”. He wasn’t one to get involved in the life of another, at least not directly. If she chose to remain with Jin and his group of friends, he intended to make sure she was happy with them. ”Ne ne, Rei-chan let’s go eat ice cream and leave the work for Jinny” said Kaya as she ran ahead the two of us. Jin smiled and nodded, if Rei wanted to she could go off and have fun too.

They hadn’t found the desired street urchin anyways, there was no reason to be bored while you searched for them. Jin noticed another individual nearby and went ahead to question him about the missing jewels. Would their search finally come to an end? Or will they continue to roam around the town?

Rei had asked in a light manner and the stranger thought it peculiar. A little girl such as herself shouldn't be asking strangers about possibly stolen and re-circulating jewelry in the town, it was likely to cause some unwanted attention. He looked at her, concerned but also fearful- he didn't want to be included in whatever trouble was to come from this. Jin stepped behind Rei for support and protective appearance, the man understood the sentiment and quickly excused himself. Rei hadn't noticed Jin doing such, but his next words were clear enough to her. It was a dual-purpose statement. On one hand, it was saying that the time they spent looking would be more enjoyable for the three of them. On the other hand, Jin didn't want her straying too far from him because he wanted to keep her safe.

Rei understood what he meant and wasn't bothered by it, even if she was more intelligent and mature than those her age, she was still very much a little girl. A little girl mage who wouldn't even use her own magical powers out of fear and regret: her worth in the team was very little, a mascot at most or something like that. Or that's what she had thought anyways, the last few jobs Magna had taken her on,it was abundantly clear that she was carried every time. When could she start pulling her own weight? She smiled up at him as he was bent down to her umbrella. Rei will take Kaya for ice cream. Nii-chan can take a break too if he wants. They had just taken a break, but oh well- it was not like either of them were really taking a break anyways. In a town full of people who might know, anyone they came across might have their needed information. If Rei understood Jin a bit, she knew that he might follow them just to ensure they were safe. Rei took off skipping after Kaya and called out for her to wait up as she giggled. She would ask the ice cream man at the shop up ahead while she ordered two triple stacked cherry, blueberry and raspberry ice cream cones. One of them was for Jin of course, kaya could share with Rei.

Jin didn’t want to rest, he wanted the job to be completed as soon as possible. They were in a town, maybe he could take Rei to some park or something after that. She was a little girl and yet she did jobs like grownups. Jin had enjoyed a normal life and as a child he loved going to parks and playing on rides. As a magic fan, his major interest was going to magic shows or talk to any real magicians if he happened upon any. He could still remember the first time he had met Black Rose mages. Due to that fateful meeting, he had made becoming a mage of Black Rose his lifelong goal. After waiting for almost a decade, he had finally managed to come and become a part of it. Now going on jobs was just an added bonus, one could say that he had already achieved what he really wanted to. ”Speaking of magic, I don’t know about hers” he thought to himself. May be they would happen upon the thieves and she would use it. Little did Jin know, that Rei had some issues with her magic.

Jin followed behind as the two ran off to have some fun. Keeping things more casual was Jin’s style. Rei and Kaya could play around while he asked for the jewel’s location. If he managed to obtain some information, then he could find them and they would be done with the job. After that, they could really relax and possibly enjoy a red velvet cake without worries. Jin noticed the expressions of the ice cream man as Rei said something to him. He was close but not within audible range since there were people walking around. He could only imagine that Rei had ordered something unusual for her age. He decided to let Rei manage the situation on her own and went off to ask yet another possible candidate.

Rei was right, Jin had wanted to stick close but give Rei the assurance that he still considered her reliable. She could appreciate that. Sometimes people would be over-bearing just because she was a child: True that their intentions may have been noble and in her best interest, but some people didn't take into account that she was an independent little girl and could see over-bearing as a sign of incompetence. She had ordered two ice creams because she knew Jin would be somewhere close by- he deserved a treat for being a good big brother figure.

Unfortunately, when she asked the ice cream man about the jewels, he didn't seem to know anything either. Rei had figured someone owning a business around the area might have some knowledge, but apparently not this guy. She thanked him and left, Jin as nearby and talking to someone else- by his posture, she could tell that the conversation hadn't gone well for him either. She would walk up beside him and hold out the tall ice cream out to his face. Here Nii-chan, Rei got you matching ice cream. Still no luck on the jewels? she asked, already knowing the answer well enough. Whoever these guys were that stole the jewels sure did know how to keep people from talking. That posed another question to Rei: if they could move about in such secrecy, how strong was their ring of criminals? Someone walked by suddenly and Rei stopped them, she knelt down and patted Kaya while she asked them where people would normally go to find jewelry in the town.

'Monster Dice' :

Jin smiled and accepted the ice cream Rei had bought for him. She was indeed a considerate and kind little girl. Jin had no ability to see through one’s heart, he only had intuition. Maybe he only perceived people to be good in nature because the people around him did have these traits. His friends in their own way, were kind; caring and warm individuals. ”I wonder which flavored ice cream she bought for us”, he thought licking the ice cream. The flavor was a composition of three, he hadn’t tasted such a combination before: it was different to say the least. ”Thank you so much, Rei-chan” he said patting her head. It was the intention that mattered and she was thoughtful enough to think about him when buying the ice cream.

The man stopped and looked at the little girl who had just asked him about the jewels. Before he could say anything, Jin cast a cold gaze at him as he turned his head a little revealing the guild mark on the left side of his neck. It was evident to the individual that the ones asking him were mages. Jin’s aura and personality completely changed at the time. The kind, caring and normally smiling Jin was now transformed into an individual with killing intent. He wasn’t that scary originally, he came from a humble little village. His time as a mage had taught him that sometimes such a demeanor was necessary. The man looked at Jin and began sweating. It appeared that Jin was indeed scary for this one individual. ”The jewels huh? I don’t know how Black Rose mages found out about them but I’ll fuss up. I don’t want trouble”, said the guy wiping off his sweat. He looked at Jin once again and Jin nodded. Jin was standing behind Rei to make sure that she wouldn’t notice this side of Jin.

The man told them to follow him as he lead them into an alley. Jin considered the possibility of it being an ambush but it appeared the man was too scared to pull of something like that. He told Jin and Kaya what he knew and directed them towards the shop that did business in stolen goods. The man then left swearing that he had told Jin everything he wanted to know. Jin turned and looked at Rei to make sure she was doing okay. He wasn’t aware of the troubles she had faced so he considered her to be a child and was thus caring. ”Things are going to get bad Rei-chan, you ready?”, obviously he wasn’t going to tell her to stay put or leave her behind. She was a mage after all and a Black Rose mage at that.

Rei's question wasn't too peculiar, but she could tell that the man she had asked, knew something about the jewels, shady business. She had taken a kind and innocent demeanor, hoping to fool the man into pity or something else to get him to talk- Jin had other ideas though. Rei knew Jin had stood behind her, but she hadn't turned around to look at him. The man was visibly sickened by the demeanor in which Jin was threatening him, the man's body shook lightly with fear and anticipation. He was fearful, but his body language suggested he knew a way out of this dilemma, he would cooperate accordingly to Jin's demands.

The man had began to walk and motioned for them to follow, he looked right and left, paranoid. he led them to an ally, shady business. Rei expected they would be jumped from the roofs or something of the overhanging buildings, but nothing happened. The man pointed to a shop that supposedly sold stolen goods: the man's body language indicated that he was being truthful and desperate to get away from them, that was enough conclusive evidence for Rei. Now they just needed proof of stolen goods from the shop and they could turn their job in. Jin spoke to her, a serious but friendly tone on his lips as he asked if she was ready. In response, she closed up her umbrella and twirled it on her wrist in anticipation and them gripped it with her other hand like a blunt weapon and smiled up at him. Rei has Nii-chan, Rei is ready. she had already finished her ice cream, betwen her and Kaya- it had gone a lot quicker than she had thought... or was it the hot day that had melted it?
