    Job:

Life had been changing recently and when life changed things tend to get a bit chaotic, a mass upheaval of life and destiny thrown together in a tornado of uncertainly that you never knew what it might lead to. So when Hayden received a letter from his old friend Davious a teen he knew when he was growing up he had briefly met but shared his dreams with. Through that conversation and helping him with a matter of family they ended up becoming somewhat good friends. Now this didn't mean Hayden saw the man as a brother but none the less he held loyalty to him so he answered this call immediately despite the harm that may come to himself. It was the only right option in his mind, yet even he had to be careful when traveling these lands, this caused the young swordsman to look to one of his guild mates to help which they had accepted; guildmates helped each other afterall. None the less, they where walking through a heavily dense forest that seemed to be closing around them as they took every step, you never quite knew what might show it's self in these lands.

"Thank you for accompanying me, this was a personal matter but I am grateful for the aid none the less..Rohma correct?"

The words came out of the man's mouth rather cool like as his head turned to face them his hazel eyes deciding to rest from looking for threats. If they where to be attack two Infinity Hydra mages would be able to handle themselves and if they couldn't... well they chose of their own free will to come. Hayden was to some a imposing young chap standing at five eleven with one hundred and ninety pounds of muscle that had come from years of sword fighting and traveling. That mixed with his natural intelligence and reflexes led his hands to always be ready to grip the large sword on his back, the thick bladed weapon and hilt actually longer the himself but he wielded it effortlessly as if it was a literal extension of himself. If she was lucky she may see him using the weapon in combat today.

"We can't drop our guard out here- you feel the uneasiness do you not?"

’Gods why did I agree to this again?’ It was a question that’d been repeating itself with increasing frequency. “Go check up on an old friend” summed up the situation, and she’d been all for it while treating this more like a casual stroll than anything right up until things turned eerie. The change happened so gradually she hadn’t really noticed until the skies seemed a bit darker, the spaces between the trees becoming harder and harder to see too far beyond and…were there more spider webs? She might’ve likened it to a haunted forest overly decorated, but she’d started to wonder over the lack of ambient noises…when had those disappeared?

”Hm?” green eyes turned towards her partner, the tall and bulky fellow a helpful presence amidst the odd, growing feeling of this place, ”Yeah no problem, n’ yeah ‘Row-mah.’” She never could quite figure out where some people got “Rah-mah” from, but generally shrugged it off. ’Damn, getting’ real tired of this “being watched” feeling I’ve got goin’ on.’ For the umpteenth time she rubbed the back of her neck as if to sooth the hairs standing on end, the other one casually passing one of her pistols as if to reassure the woman defense was close at hand. ’Well at least I got some muscle with me. Better than some digs.’

Still the comfort in knowing she could whistle for Amarylis helped a bit more.

”Good I’m not the only one with the hinky feelings then?” ’Swear to the gods and demons above and below though there better just be some overgrown bugs and demented dogs.’ Yeah, surely it was her imagination getting the better of her, the slightly encroaching fog little more than weather phenomenon and not something to be actually worried about! Besides she’d gone to plenty of places just as creepy and nothing happened so…why should it now? Yes, sound argument. She’d stick with it.

Hayden’s calm demeanor was much different from the uneasiness practically radiating off the girl, it wasn’t so much that he wasn’t scared more like creeped out but the needs of a former friend took precedence over most of anything else. So as the girl asked about the uneasy feeling she was feeling Hayden could easily relate having done so mere moments ago, he had to give props to the woman for making it this far and not giving up- not to insult them but this setting made them seem a tad meek. As they traveled deeper into the silent forest, the quietness so deafening that each step they took seemed to be louder as Hayden used the map to navigate closer to the house that was marked. ‘Davious, my friend, I will find you.’ Hayden thought for a moment as his head lifted from the map, a cold chill running up his spine causing him to shiver- almost like a warning.

“..Get ready I have a bad feeling-”

The words coming out of the man’s mouth never got to finish as what sounded like groaning and slight growls of death began to sound loudly from all around of them. The sound of shambling seem to come from all directions as a sour and pungent smell of death invaded both of the mages nostrils causing Hayden to gasp for a moment and scrunch his nose up. From the trees around them it seemed to be a small group of ghouls circling around them all shambling slowly but surely, their decayed flesh and jerky movements similar to that of a ‘zombie’. It seemed that this was the first set of enemies they would encounter, why not too deadly this could prove to be difficult due to the two lone mages versus three of them.

    “Get ready!”

Hayden yelled as his calloused hand reach up to grip the thick blade handle on his back clicking it to the left then sliding it across his shoulder bring it in front of him. The large blade finally making it’s self known to girl as the black blade shined just briefly in the dull light, a glow emitting from it’s hilt from what seemed to be a Lacrima implanted into it. The sword now released held by Hayden seemed to release a murderous intent from both of them, it was clear from the small yet almost unnoticeable smile on his face that this… was where he felt most comfortable.

“Steel yourself- the battle has begun!”

By the time Rohma would be able to react they would be within melee distance of Hayden’s sword but for now they were in shooting distance for her. So for now Hayden simply was grounding himself preparing for when they get closer.

She bloody knew something wrong was in the air, the woman whispering a half-hearted curse under her breath. ’I fuckin’ KNEW there was something wrong in the air, knew it! I’ve been in damned crypts less ominous than this place.’ Then again how could one explain to another that they could see….”things” beyond what they should? It was easier not to mention things as those ghastly beings shambled their way towards them, starting to shuffle faster with prey looming ahead of them.

Watching them however unsettled her, the woman taking one shaky step backwards, and then another slide back…”WHY DON’T DEAD THINGS JUST STAY FUCKIN’ DEAD?!” It was an age old question that always cropped up whenever these damnable things popped up, ever since the first scare. Ripping the pistols from their holsters she didn’t even snap the blades on, merely pointing them at the two targets ahead and firing multiple shots into them. Their heads disintegrated quickly enough, but she couldn’t help firing a couple extra into their falling bodies. They just…really needed to die…again.

The display shown by the woman was funny to say the least, she was panicking unloading shot after shot into the undead. She may have fired way to many shots as the cold corpses where filled with warm led, the un-moving bodies simply twitching with each extra shot as they spasm-ed. Hayden took this time to take a step forward as she fired her last bullet to pivot on his foot sending the large sword into a arc with ease slicing through the rotten flesh that connected it's head to it's neck sending it flying through the air with ease, the momentum sending the sword into the next ghoul but since it was beginning to lower the blade was lodged half way into it's torso causing the corpse to crash to the ground... even more dead.

This left the two with one zombie left, lunging at Hayden as he attempted to pull his sword from the carcass. He could only lift one hand to catch it just under the neck as it growled and snapped at him his free arm tugging at his sword. He'd be able to de-lodge the sword soon but despite his strength the tenacity of the ghoul was impressive despite.. it's.. undead nature. It would prove to be a difficult shot due to the moving and the angle but Rohma did have a chance to take it out..

Huffing with an adrenaline rush still going, she had two bullets left, and one of them usually had her name on it – always save the last for yourself. That was the general philosophy, one her mother instilled at an early age with their lifestyle of excavation and the like where things could go horribly wrong in a heartbeat. The fact that the beefcake of a man could more or less slice through two of the decrepit creatures was a little comforting, but only a little as the last one decided to hold onto the huge sword for him for just a tad.

    Such a kind ghoul.

Or maybe crafty was a better term?

The final one of the group lunged then, taking its opportunity as he busied himself trying to free the sword, catching it and holding it at arm’s length while the thing waved its claws about and snarled like some rabid beast. ’I can always slash my throat,’ she deemed, readily lodging that last bullet through the head of the beast. Much to her horror however the thing continued to snarl and growl, only missing the top of its head. ”For fuck’s sake-JUST DIE ALREADY!” Another shot and the rest of its head scattered over the ground behind it.

The struggle between man and beast seemed to only be a moment as Hayden teeth gritted before hearing bullet whiz right by his head barely missing him and the Ghoul followed by a second one that found it's mark splattering blood out the back of it's head but sending some backlash over Hayden arm and face. He grunted tossing the corpse to the ground as with a final jerk he ripped his blade from the corpse that it was currently tightly lodged in, turns out it got caught within the rib cage and due to the slow momentum not quite enough to bisect it. But none the less he removed his sword from it.

"Ugh that was disgusting- looks like we arn't alone out here. We should keep moving." Hayden coughed this out slightly as he kept moving forward with a frown on his face. He had a bad feeling about this place but in the distance he could begin to see a cabin. That was if they didn't encounter anymore trouble.

She felt a little bad about the gross backlash, a little, but it paled in comparison to the pleasure at seeing those things dead on the ground and perfectly still. Except for when one of them twitched she made sure to lodge another two freshly chambered bullets into the thing before finishing the reload process. ”I hate to ask this as it’s a bit late,” she finally spoke up as their pace quickened, the last bullet replaced, ”but you wouldn’t have happened to had some sort of…inkling about the reanimated being involved, would you? Cause…that’s the sort of thing you may want to mention to a person next time.”

Gods above knows she would’ve rethought joining him on this little personal quest. She could feel for him, really she could because if something happened to Jezz or Ovan she’d be there in a heartbeat, but there were a few details she really needed to know. Grumbling to herself Rohma slammed the guns against the second set of holsters bearing the attached blades, happy to have a second option if they came too close. While the fellow could act like a front runner she couldn’t solely rely on him. An instinct kicked in, ears picking up the noise before her brain really had time to register it as she ducked, the claw swiping at air. ”More fuckin’ dead things?!” she grouched, slamming the blade into the thing’s thigh while the other went right through the soft, fleshy portion of the jaw through the brain. It would seem they’d walked right into the migratory path of some large pack of ghouls if these things kept cropping up.

Hayden could only offer a sheepish smile to the woman as he rested his blade on his shoulder, when he asked them he hadn't had a clue of their fears or the dead was walking in this area. None the less they where wizards of Hydra and with that they had a duty to this place, to make it out alive and end anything that would dare try to stop them. So as they walked and their pace quickened he let out a low growl for a second as his reflexes kicked in a bit early as he dashed to the right as he saw what just happened to his ally, his sword immediately going to his side as he took on a charging stance. "More dead right, Then let's make sure they stay dead!" He yelled as his muscles tensed, taking a step forward before pushing off in a dash.

He well to be simple ran at them, with no regard for his safety of the maggot ridden flesh only that slow burning rage within him kicking him into gear. His arms flexed as his large sword swung forward cleaving through two of them easily bisecting them as he shoulder rushed one sending it spiraling to the ground with a sickening crash as it's legs snapped from the force- mostly due to the week structure. His sword was now dripping with blood as he lifted the pointed end before thrusting it downward not even worrying about the last one- she could handle that he trusted.

    "Let's hurry up!"

If not for the dead(ly) menace it would’ve been entertaining to watch the man charge off, Hayden certainly a man of action. ’All right I’ll give him a few points: he’s dependable in a fight.’ She might even find the heart to forgive him after all this since, in his defense, this concerned a friend of his so details hadn’t really been a thing before they’d left the guild hall. For now though she pumped another one of those nasty things full of lead – over kill, but killed nevertheless. ’Definitely never getting in his way though. Yeesh.’ More than likely she’d be crushed almost as bad as the ghoul…

At this point they all but ran towards the cabin, Rohma not bothering to holster the pistols as she replaced a few more of the used shells, ”Your friend’s in the cabin, right? How good’s he at fighting?” She really couldn’t imagine trying to hold out in this hell, the woman more likely to off herself or escape at the first chance she glimpsed. ’Then again not everyone’s got a ride outta hell,’ she recalled, eyes glancing momentarily up at the cloud-filled sky where her avian friend awaited her summons. ’Guess if it gets too hairy we got extra back up.’

"Man's been fighting just as long as me. He can fight."

Hayden response to her was very sincere his grip tightening on his blade, Davious was a good man and a even better fighter when he needed to be but being in this Hell alone as a melee fighter could prove deadly even to Hayden.Least she can handle herself, she might make a good team mate even with this phobia. I'll bring it up later. They where not gods but mere mortals so one wrong move could result in their death rather quickly, with a large in take of breath and a slow controlled exhale he pushed on towards the cabin which wasn't that fair now. But just as they where cresting the opening of the house their was a loud type of growl this time more animal like. Hayden eyes snapped to his right to see what looked to be a... zombie moose and bear.

"Amazing.." He groaned as he saw both of them seeming to focus on the living rather than the duel they may have been having earlier, this caused them to paw at the ground as they both let out a roar charging towards the both of them causing Hayden to push Rohma to the right following behind them as he jumped his reflexes allowing them that small gap of time- however Hayden had crashed to the ground in his armor a fair distance away from Rohma but he looked to be getting to his feet a bit dazed from his jump.

"I'll take the bear, Rohma you can handle the moose!?"

’Still a bite from those things…if they’re contagious could be a death sentence.’ With any luck though the friend would be fine and the three could get out of this place and maybe get a drink because gods knows Rohma wanted to forget this day already. Just when the home stretch seemed within sight however two final guardians stepped forth to halt the group’s progress: a mighty moose and a boastful bear – if that fearsome roar could be claimed as “boastful.”

Before the woman could either a) freeze in place or b) jump to the side Hayden made the decision for her. Sure some might’ve seen it as a bit rude to just shove someone, but landing in the bush she damn well crawled and then pushed to her feet, eager to get the hell away from those abominations. ’Is nothing sacred in death anymore?!’ The man shouted something about a moose, but she didn’t exactly have time to answer as a powerful “THWACK!” reverberated in the air near her, the moose and it’s ghastly antlers slamming into a tree that decided to shield her at the last moment.

Trying for an eye shot, her hand shook, pausing, and when she took the shot the bullet lodged in one of those thick, tree-trunk of antlers.

’Damn this thing and this day to hell and back!’

Hayden survivual inscints was a reason he survived to well in this life but when it came to a raging dead, excuse him UNDEAD, bear you just can't prepare for this. In fact he worried about Rohma as she tried to fight the thing hearing a gunshot but he had to focus on the bear that was now fuming with rage for no damn reason then Hayden being alive. Damn this things they where simply overwhelming at this point and with those two animal guardians he had to act quick, Rohma may not be able to handle that thing on her own not with her fear nipping at her- so by now Hayden was to his feet but the bear was already mid charge.

The two met head on if it's possible to describe that, well Hayden had braced himself as the Bear lunged ground himself in the ground as his large sword braced for impact. As the beast jumped at him the teeth tried to clinch on the blade but using his ground stance Hayden pushed forward sending the sharp end of the blade into the teeth causing a black tinted blood to begin to flow down his sword as the thing yelled in rage rearing back sending a quick even for Hayden swipe at his side causing him to literally fly through the air and hit a tree. Thankfully the metal armor he had took a decent amount of the blow but from the dented chest piece it was pretty much useless now- his hand letting go of his sword as he pulled at the straps releasing the broken chest piece.

"That hurt you rat ugly bastard, you're gonna pay for that." Hayden spoke with a smile forming through his blood stained teeth, the impact made him bite his lip and the taste of his blood well... it brought out that rage that had been building. In response the bear simply roared in which case Hayden grinned readying his blade- all sense having left.. for now.

Dodging this thing’s stampedes was getting harder and harder by the moment, the woman basically flailing around trees and jumping this way or that into foliage. By the end of the day she’d be stuck picking random leaves out of this pocket or wherever they’d threaded themselves into hair or clothing. Nicks and scratches decorated her limbs, a small line beneath one of her eyes stinging a bit as the air struck it. So far she’d managed to shoot a leg, though that’d resulted in the thing kicking out and skimming one of her legs in turn. Currently the gash bled into her boot, the feeling uncomfortable as it fused her sock to her leg.

As the thing head-butted another tree – the same one she happened to duck behind – Rohma dropped one of the guns and blew through her fingers. The high-pitched whistle seemed to echo into the clouds and beyond, the air around her stilling as she waited…and then grinned. ’Blessed be that sound.’ The return call was all she needed as she avoided being kicked in the rear, playing ring-around-the-rosies with the partially decomposed herbivore. When the ice formed around the charging monstrosity as it aimed to gouge her with those hulking horns, Rohma grinned fiercely, the spikes lodging into the thing even as she held the gun in both hands and fired a couple rounds between those eyes. And then a few more for good measure.

Above the trees Amarylis hovered, slowly beating her wings as her momentum from the dive bomb already diminished. She’d been in time to protect her friend, though still couldn’t quite reach her through the foliage to double check anything.

”Thanks babe,” she called out, quickly snatching up the tossed gun, ”Stay safe: you’re probably gonna be our ride outta this hell.” Time to make sure her partner made it out alive or she’d have a bullet for both him and the bear if need be.

The clash between the bear and Hayden was something to ordinary people, someone could go as far as to call it Epic. While the woman was busy dealing with the moose running and scurrying Hayden was meeting his aggressor with just as much anger and fury as he could muster, each clash resulting in more damage to one another as scratches form but it didn't appear to slow Hayden down. Finally Hayden was getting the upper Hand as he rolled to the left popping up on his knee as his blade sunk deep into the the fat decayed flesh, his hands sliding the blade through tightly as it roared in a rage before finally giving up its hold on life. It's guts spilling onto the floor as it slumped over falling to the side as it poured that black tinted liquid from the wound as Hayden began to stand up his blade resting against the cold dead ground.

"Rohma!" He called not looking towards her yet as he had through his rage heard the fight, it seemed she came on top but Hayden had taken considerable physical damage in that fight loosing most of his armor in the process leaving him in tattered leather pants and a tattered shirt, fighting a bear with skill and strength was something he would not recommend but his eyes locked on the door as he began to march towards the silent house. The thing is... If he was there or alive he would have come out by now.

"Davious... Devious you better be alive in there!" Hayden yelled through what could actually be described as fawk rage.. It was clear from his voice and his slow walk, his prized sword dragging on the ground that he had already accepted a outcome. Just as he reach the door suddenly Hayden was blown back as the door was destroyed by w man that rivaled Hayden in size, he looked pretty human except
For the milky eyes he had and bite mark on his forearm, his strength strong enough to send Hayden flying back and rolling next to Rohma. Hayden friend... Was no longer among the living.

    "ARRRRGHHHH!!"

It was heart-wrenching, the woman only now realizing their proximity to the cabin. If his friend was in good health he’d have probably joined the fray, surely, if he could match this scary individual. ’He…well, maybe he’s just injured or feelin’ a bit under the weather.’ The raven-haired mage cringed even thinking that, her mind outright telling her “No…” at entertaining the notion. There was no way to describe what she could see beyond that door, able to read certain things no one should have access too.

”Wait!” she called out, hand stretching out as if that might somehow halt his progress, only for it to clamp down harder around the gun, twirling it back into its proper position. ”Tch…damn it…” a tinge of sadness tinted the words, the sight before her both disheartening and frightening. That mark and gaze caused her skin to crawl, but she managed to not move a step – though fear may have played a part in that – and raised both her pistols. ’Crap…can I even shoot someone else’s friend?’ It seemed kind of a low thing to do, but at this point survival was more important. She could apologize later.

”Sorry, but can’t let you go ‘round infecting others,” she murmured, letting loose a few rounds as the thing began its charge. Behind it Amarylis ducked low, swooping past and forcing the thing to stumble in her wake, ice creeping up the once human Davious’ leg.

Hayden body rolled through the dirt stopping beside the woman who had just began to fire her guns at the now zombie version of his long time friend, each shot ringing loud for Hayden as he began to stand up slowly as Davious- no the zombie, roared loudly as it challenged both of them. Hayden eyes where fuming with rage that was no long fuming but threatening to break through his head as if he was a steam gauge that was at the breaking point. "Rohma.." He spoke softly as his sword rested in the ground, his hands gripping his blade tightly as he removed it readying himself as it charged towards them. However, the ice damage came into effect slowing it as Hayden himself rushed at it.

Assuming she stopped to reload or wouldn't shoot him he flexed his muscles his large sword making a arc as the zombie instinctively brought it's meaty hand to block the blade. However, the blade cut deep down the center of it's palm rendering it useless as it roared stepping forward heading butting Hayden yet Hayden did not wave his own head coming forward as they clashed heads. They pushed against each other before Hayden used his sword to push them apart causing the beast to stagger due to the frozen leg- it was about two or three hits away from being stopped.

"C'mon! Davious- is this all you have?! Show me the warrior you was!"

    "Arrrrrrrghhhhhhhh!"

The name almost escaped her notice, her desire to put this thing to rest nearly winning out. She was able to keep him at bay until Hayden brought himself back into the fray, Rohma lowering her guns as she took a few steps back. ’I think this is more his fight than mine.’ Not a hard decision to come to either thanks to their proximity and her waning accuracy, only some of the shots earlier actually striking the man-turned-undead. The only time she’d lodge a spell in the guy’s head involved him falling prey to the same curse as his friend – hopefully a fact he wouldn’t mind under those circumstances. She’d expect him to lop her head off so she didn’t have to shuffle around for all eternity.

Watching them brawl however struck her as a little odd, curious if perhaps some part of the zombiefied Davious remained beneath the decaying flesh. She hadn’t known too many of them to head-butt people after all, even Amarylis sending a curious emotion through their link. ’Stay your hand just in case…but stay nearby just in case.’

Hayden and the two where like wolves that was sizing each other up as they circled carefully and slowly almost a human like intellect coming from the zombie. It was most likely the final strong embers of Davious remaining underneath the rabid animal that had taken over his entire being but despite this it would not make his spirit burn any less brightly. The milky dead eyes if they could show rage they would at this point along with Hayden who was barely covered by a gauntlet, some tattered clothes, and his bare feet as he had lost the boots awhile ago maybe while they where running. Finally, in a swift motion, they both pounced at each other with Hayden able to bring his blade up to block the brute causing Hayden to swiftly step to the left.

    "Aaaaahhh!"

Hayden yelled as he pivoted his foot his sharp and thick blade sliding along the dead flesh severing flesh from the bone and causing deep gashes within it's chest. However, Hayden did not stop as he twirled directly behind the brute his sword resting at it's neck as he closed let out a breath before pulling the blade sharply hearing a sickening crack and tear of the flesh from it's neck. With the pure amount of strength and leverage he had the thing's head flew into the air as it's now beheaded body slumped to the floor now... at peace if thats what you could call it. Quietly the swordsman began to sheathe his sword onto his back as the rage left him only to be followed by a feeling of guilt.. perhaps a bit remorse as well.

However, Hayden walked over to the head picking it up with both his hands looking at the milky eyes before holding it with one hand. He deserved a Death that could bring him peace, so he would offer a burial in exchange. His hand came up to close the eyes of his now fallen friend looking to Rohma a tired look in the once fierce eyes- perhaps a bid disturbing considering he was holding the severed head of his friend.

"Can you help me with the burial?"

Should she accept Hayden would instruct her to find food and rocks while he would set the head next to the body to begin digging out a hole large enough to fit the body and head. This would take about a hour- but for now it seemed save from ghouls and animals perhaps they had scared everything off.

As much as she wanted to run – possibly find a place to vomit as well – Rohma nodded. Rather than vocalize and risk unleashing her breakfast upon the world because touching the dead didn’t sit well with her stomach, but she also wasn’t keen on insulting the guy or his recently deceased friend either. Besides he’d been a bit human there, even if whatever happened took hold of his body for the most part some of the spirit remained until that bitter end. Finding the stuff wouldn’t be hard, it was more a matter of transportation and time while he dug the grave, Amarylis quickly finding some still living animals while Rohma fetched some fruit while grabbing rocks.

Thanks to the avian they managed to have some slightly bigger ones she broke up upon bringing them over. When things were said and done, the body in the grave with the pile protecting him from predators and marking the spot, Rohma couldn’t help feeling a bit awkward yet like she should say…well…something at least. ”I know it might not sound like much comin’ from me, but I’m sorry we couldn’t make it in time to help your friend.” She scratched the back of her head more due to nerves than actual itchiness, the words genuine even if she couldn’t quite vocalize the feelings too well. She never much cared for loss, whether avoidable or not as it always left emptiness in its wake. ”We should probably leave and see about getting you patched up back at the guild or along the way.” ’And maybe another change of clothes,’ but she’d leave that thought stuck in her head because now wasn’t the time.

Hayden could only offer a nod to the woman as his eyes roamed over the grave before letting out a sigh, kneeling down to touch one of the rocks one last time before standing up. This was one of those somber moments where you just wanted to leave but couldn't bring yourself to, each passing seconding feeling as if the weight of the world was on him as the woman talked. "Thanks.." Hayden got out with a sigh looking up in the air before back to Rohma. The woman had managed to keep such a cool head despite all the shit they had just experienced mixed on top with their own supposed phobia creating a respect and loyalty to them. Perhaps they are good enough for a offer to join his... Vanguard.

"Yeah, let's head back but when we do I got a offer for you that you may be interested in back at the Guild, Rohma.."

    [END THREAD.]
